Pakistan is in a war for its very survival! I was surprised at how much we are helping them despite Denials!

Clinton: Fighting Extremism Can't Be Avoided as bomb hits Peshawar Bazaar

Pakistan's Taliban offensive rages on

On Pakistan's frontline

a potent car bomb ripped through Peshawar's Meena Bazaar, a crowded market selling women's clothes Targeting women and children, this shows Taliban resolve to kill everyone. The people better steal their resolve. They have got to be on the look out for anyone or thing that is not familiar or looks out of place or suspicious.

At the same time Pakistan advances in Taliban area as the offensive rages on The mass killing of their women and children in a friggen clothing market should enrage the soldiers and further steel their desire to rid Pakistan of these murderous militants. Pakistan is at war!

US Quietly Aids Pakistani Drives on Taliban I know many Pakistani's despise the US and I have to admit we deserve it. However Pakistan is in the fight of her life and it is our fault. This is critical and I was very pleased to see how much we are helping Pakistan despite denials by top officials.

The United States has quietly rushed hundreds of millions of dollars in arms, equipment and sophisticated sensors to Pakistani forces in recent months for the operations in the Swat valley and in South Waziristan. Obama spoke with a top General and personally gave the order to send whatever was need within limits of course.

We hurriedly and on the QT sent 10 Mi-17 troop transport helicopters, spare parts for Cobra helicopter gunships, night vision goggles, body armor and eavesdropping equipment. Supplying the infrared night vision for their f16 war planes has to be invaluable too . Drones while publicly bringing complaints have got to be a large part of the success in finding where the Taliban are hiding. We control the drones but the video and coordinates are immediately fed to ground commanders.

Lately I have been hearing from Pakistani friends that there has been an increase there in our military and undercover personnel. I hope these personnel are the American Special Forces soldiers and support personnel who are training and advising Pakistani Army and paramilitary troops for these operations. I know we heard it before but we are told they train only and do not engage in combat.

Like it or not we are in this together. I believe that our mutual success or failure in Afghanistan and Pakistan are intricately intertwined. One is worthless without the other. Pakistan's victory will be defined by eradicating the militants. To me our victory will be defined as doing what the local Afghani leaders suggest. If that is give us supplies and leave so be it. See you later our job is done!

Ya know, Jim, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the CIA was involved in some of those bombings. They've been known to do worse. Just food for thought.

I would not doubt it either Brother! I would actually expect they are behind some of the bombings and killings an Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Hey can the kids get in your compound to trick or treat or do you sit there with a shotgun?

Miss Hallie and I are going to dress up and sit at a table outside the gate by the road. I'll try to get some pics.

Really! You are a riot sounds like fun. Great can't wait to see the pictures. Have a little cage for moose or the turtles?

This really is a mess. There's Abdullah threatening a boycott thereby ending up with a false election.
In Pakistan we're bombing with drones an illegal act (no declaration of war by congress). We can hardly say we're on moral high ground there.
Befitting the season I'm sure Satan is laughing hysterically over this.
Happy Halloween guys.

I was following that this morning. WTF I think Abdullah is playing us. Obama can not add more troops to this situation.

Abdullah must know that and is putting the screws to us. They keep calling this Obama's war.

I do not think it is Obama's war yet but it will be as soon as he decides what to do next. It is time for the slow good bye, we did our job! Let the Drugsters see what they do with their opportunity.

Recent history in Pakistan is similar to events in Iran during the rule of the Shah. Both leaderships were strongly backed by the US, and were involved in widespread repression or attacks on their own people. Both regimes followed policies that were deeply unpopular domestically. In Iran, this led the revolution of 1979 which created an Islamic Republic. Could something similar happen in Pakistan?

Welcome Canada guy thanks for the link! Man, and Afghanistan is worse than Vietnam. I can only shake my head with three of my sons being career military!

Hi average patriot,

I don't know if I'd go as far to say Afghanistan is worse than Vietnam. 55,000 Americans died in Vietnam (and many of these were draftees, not volunteers) as well as 2 or 3 million Vietnamese and a lot of Cambodians.

Hi Canada Guy
Did you ever read The Taliban get their first wish - Asia Times Online :: South Asia ...

Take a minute and read this. This is absolutely barely beginning and will dwarf Vietnam. That was mine three of my sons are in this. I tell them to relax they are in this for the long haul!

The Swat Afghanistan, Pakistan, even Iran the Taliban say it is theirs and they will never give up.

They are as happy as pigs in shit. They have us right where they want us. This is where they believe the end of years war will take place. What a coincidence.

The only way to win is to realize we did what we wanted, Al Qaeda is gone. Start the slow good bye but Obama will not do it.

When we first attacked I called this whole thing Bush's forever war and that it will dwarf the 100 year war. Now it's Obama's!

Thanks for the link, I'll read this when I have a bit more time.

Please do, it is short but it will sober you up even if you only glance at the first two paragraphs.

Okay, I read a bit of it. I remember the cease-fire, but that obviously didn't last long, they had that big offense in Swat Valley shortly afterwards (I referred to this in my article.)

I wouldn't worry about it too much, most religions say some strange things. The Taliban have never been expansionist. They barely managed to gain control in Afghanistan after the post-Soviet civil war. And they never retaliated against the Soviets, there were no bombs going off in Moscow or any other terrorist attacks.

The Taliban are primitive and have little regard for human rights (or women's rights), and no one likes them. But we can't force them to change. Think what might have happened in Afghanistan if for the last 30 years, the Soviets and the US had both left them alone. They would be much more moderate, with better rights, and a higher standard of living (if only because their infrastructure wasn't destroyed.)

Canada Guy, you know they fight and die for a living. That is what they do.
They kill themselves usually but not when they have a mutual enemy and they have a big target now and I am afraid we are not as smart as the Russians.

I gotta disagree with you.

Due to our introduction of the Muslim Brotherhood madrassas into Pakistani terrotiry, we basically created the Taliban. The Taliban, who are a Pakistani organization first and foremost, have adopted as their ultimate goal a long-held dream of a Pashtunistan, which will encompass wide swaths of what is now Pakistan and Afghanistan. We have neither the boots nor the resources to prevent it.

The decision to light that fire, in that area, was probably the worst policy decision we ever made, up to that time. Saint Ronnie's Taliban is going to prevail; the more we involve ourselves in that mess, the more hell we'll catch for it later. What we ought to be doing, if anything, is figuring out where they keep their nukes, so we can destroy them.

Chris M said...

TechGirl,

The idea of a "Pashtunistan" is actually not that radical an idea, or necessarily a bad thing. This is an ethnic group that has lived there for hundreds of years. Then some Europeans came, drew some lines on a map, and suddenly their community extends into different "countries". Are we surprised this has caused conflict?

This is similar to the Kurds. Their traditional land is now part of three countries, Turkey, Iran and Iraq. The French and British just drew these lines on the map after WWI, which had absolutely nothing to do with the actual people on the ground.

People with a common language, history and culture have been cut off from each other by artificial borders. This is a recipe for conflict and disaster. We can't turn back the clock, of course, so I'm not sure what the solution is. But I think we should recognize this is a valid and legitimate concern the people living there have.

As with the middle east, everyone thinks it's always about religion, but when you come down to it, it's usually really about land or territory. The radicalism comes later, it's not the primary cause.

Getting involved in Pakistan may well indeed be one step too far for the American military.
There`s 180 million inhabitants, and the majority are not happy with outsiders poking around at their internal affairs.
But..... if the US military-intel withdraws, then effectively their budget allocations and manpower levels could/would be reduced, and the thought of being made redundant must certainly hang over those who advocate for increased military involvement.

jmsjoin said...

Hi tech girl! Welcome! The problem here is so convoluted and yes we did create an environment where they could thrive in Pakistan.

However, that said this is generations old what is just beginning there for us. This is still just taking shape and the Taliban are giddy with delight that we are finally fighting along the border and in Afghanistan and Pakistan what they have long believed is the end of days war.

Canada Guy is right, many religions have these beliefs but remember who we are dealing with. Did you ever read The Taliban get their first wish - Asia Times Online :: South Asia ...
This is barely beginning unless we get the heck out and now!

Hi Canada Guy
All of what you said here is right. Not just 2 but all three combined.

As with the middle east, everyone thinks it's always about religion, but when you come down to it, it's usually really about land or territory. The radicalism comes later, it's not the primary cause.

jmsjoin said...

Landsker my friend it is one step to far. I may have told you I use to be in touch with a Politician/Writer from India who said if we ever do attack Pakistan it will unite them against the infidel.

This is a fine line we are threading in what you know years ago I dubbed Bush's forever war. Obama will now be forced to carry it on unless he is smart enough to get the hell out. I am not convinced he is!
