4 reactors to be cemented as Plutonium leaks are compared to Chernobyl and crisis puts Japan's economy in crisis

Q&A: Despite the heroic efforts of technicians and engineers battling to prevent a full nuclear meltdown at the quake-damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant, radioactive material is still seeping into the surroundings of the power station.

4 of 6 Daiichi reactors can't be fixed; Tokyo Electric president hospitalized

Japan to scrap stricken reactors

Setbacks mounted Wednesday in the crisis over Japan's tsunami-damaged nuclear facility, with nearby seawater testing at its highest radiation levels yet and the president of the plant operator checking into a hospital with hypertension.

Nuclear crisis carries big risks for Japan economy

Long game at nuclear plant

Inside the evacuation zone

Radioactivity from the Fukishima plants has now been detected throughout the US, Canada, Russia, Scotland, the UK, South Korea, around the world, this is an environmental catastrophe our frail planet did not need.! We just discussed the terrible condition of our ocean's and we just keep trying to kill it and us

This really concerns me because the crisis in Japan just keeps getting worse despite the lies. It had to cross the country to get here on the east coast of the United States. This is not the legacy Japan wanted to leave for its children nor the one I want for mine. I have been saying from the beginning that this was going to dwarf Chernobyl and it will. It was obvious they were lying from the beginning and they still are.

They now have radiation in the ocean and wonder why? Duh! That reactor three is the only one of the 6 that uses the deadliest of the deadly, a mixture of plutonium and uranium. Now we are hearing there is another in as bad a shape. Seal them in cement now before things get any worse. Chernobyl was a 7 now they are talking 6, eventually it will be a 10 or for which they of yet do not have a classification.

When this all first started I was talking to a Ukrainian gentleman who just chuckled and said that radiation was already starting to make it to our shores. He experienced Chernoybl first hand and lost many of his relatives to radiation. He said this is much worse than the melt down there. First there are four reactors involved and secondly they're wasting their time dumping water on them. At Chernoybl they incased them in cement very quickly but many of the workers who did the work died within three days.

Greeting's AP! I just happened to catch the heading of this post over on "Scared Stiff" site, but I have read your comment's over at Demeur's place before. Thanx for the post/ link's ... I was disturbed over the Japan incident, because for year's I have had concern's over the earthquake thing, and nuke plant's, so this hit me like a bad dream when it went down. I done a tad on this as well, because what I feel is that humanity is playing some game's that are far to dangerous and really out of nature's order to the max. But thanx Guy.

BTW ... my grandkid's laugh, but I happen to still have "Duck Hunt" game and like it! :) ... Also ... Salem is such a beautiful town, been year's since I've been there, but it is so picturesque!

Demeur I am sick of hearing the spreading radiation that is now around the world as of no concern. There are 4 reactors going down not one. This is going to dwarf Chernobyl!

Thanks RC! I think I have been seeing you around for years. Nice to talk to you! It might be my age but I am very concerned with what we are doing to what we think is our only planet.

I feel guilty with all our Grandchildren. One of my career military sons says no big deal but I disagree. I was pretty lucky being raised in early 60's Salem, It is a lot more special than most think. You will see me at your place.

On another post, Demeur asked why the Chernobyl veterans aren't helping out.

I think I know the answer.

Most are dead.
Those that aren't dead have serious health issues.
They all got screwed on their pensions after endangering their lives to get fully vested.

The ones that are left, don't want to die in Japan.

The nuclear power industry mustn't be allowed to lowball and obfuscate the magnitude of this disaster or the inescapable truth they'd rather go wading at Fukushima than admit. Which is that the plants there could've been built to suffer an earthquake that bad and still have power generation; could've been designed to dissipate the heat involved even without electricity; could've been sited so that they were at a minimum 25 miles from the nearest human inhabitants.

The reason the industry loathes the truth is that building really failsafe nuclear power plants, while doable, would make them not commercially feasible.

I will add that that is a truth a whole lot of lobbyists and some politicians anxious for jobs and tax revenues for their states and districts also don't want to face up to.

As I said when this first broke, it will be worse than Chernobyl. And it is doubly-bad because the Japanese didn't exactly have a whole lot of living space to begin with.

As far as them lying about how bad it was? Of course they did. They always do. And you can bet that they still are.

Wease it must be our sick humor but that is funny but true. Once Japan would not ask or take help but now they realize the crises and will and are taking their and our help!

S.W. you're right, they were cutting corners and knowingly endangering lives to make money. During the 70's those GE reactors were found to be inadequate safety wise. We corrected all ours but Japan deemed it unnecessary. Well?

You know I agreed and agree JR and it will be. Now it is 4 they are deactivating but ? There are 4 here in some form of meltdown not one and they are still lying and screwing around at all our risk.
