I take it as a personal insult that al-Megrahi was released on grounds of compassion !

Details of the release of the Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi

Scotland Orders Release of Lockerbie Bomber

Reactions to release of al-Megrahi

So what he has cancer and is going to die! Let him stay in [prison and die as the coward he is. He murdered 270 innocent civilians. It is not right to let him go back to Libya to die free and a hero! Former Libyan intelligence agent Abdel Basset al-Megrahi was released on grounds of compassion. BS! Show some compassion for those he murder and those he left to suffer for the rest of their lives.

If you want to show compassion leave him in Prison where he will get better medical care than he will in Libya. He will be treated in many parts of the world as a hero for what he did and releasing him is an insult to all free mankind! 189 of the 270 were American and I refuse to believe we took a back seat to Scotland. This friggen release is an insult and was done to gain favor for Britain and Scotland along with more oil. In the long run this too will backfire!

I am deeply insulted with Megrahi's release! It is inappropriate and dead wrong that this was done at the Judges discretion and on one in the entire world can question this. This is another travesty! Former Libyan intelligence agent Abdel Basset al-Megrahi as you know was in Mohamar Qaddafi' secret service and worked directly for him. Qaddafi ordered the bombing that downed Pan Am flight 103 killing 270 innocent civilians.

I am disgusted we have allowed this mass murderer a known terrorist to go free, to go home to a heroes welcome. This is reprehensible! Terrorist freedom swapped for oil WTF? I do not care about our so called improved relations with Libya. Right is right and wrong is wrong and this is friggen wrong. Improved relations should include present and future not the past! This is insulting to the families and all of us. We are showing our weakness and reliance on Muslim oil. Have we no morals?

Megrahi's release was purely to further the interests of Britain and Scotland in the Muslim world. I am sick, this is more grovelling! It is an insult to all of us to set Megrahi the only person convicted in the bombing free. This absolutely is a victory for Islamists. I hope to God we are smart rnough to have his every move monitored and learn who contacts him including Qaddafi. How many people do we have to feed these animals?

I can't believe I am saying this but now is the first time I want to hear what Cheney has to say about something. The Minister of Scotland who has long wanted Megrahi released has insulted the entire world. Megrahi is terminally ill so what? This is purely Political so Brits and Scots can get more Libyan oil. 1/3 of all request for release from prison in Scotland for compassionate release from prison is denied. I am sick to my stomach that he was released using the excuse that he was dying to cover the real reason of swapping a terrorist for oil. This will screw us all with the Islamists! What the hell is wrong with us. We

I find it baffling that he was released. Scottish law, is usually more hardcore than its English counterpart. There is something deeper here, something more than Libyan oil or to win favor with the Muslim world. Apparently British PM wrote a letter to Gaddafi days before the release, saying it was a Scottish court decision and not his, and he asked that Libya 'act with sensitivity' when the bomber arrived in Libya, in other words, don't treat him like a hero, which is what they did.

Compassion had nothing to do with it.

It is pure BS! Saying two wrongs do not make a right is BS. You bet your ass it does in a case like this. Hell what do we do just them keep killing us and do nothing? They want Libya's oil.We should do something against Scotland even their people are angry. This is BS!

very true, what you guys are saying!
Yeah and doesn't the Queen always say she doesn't negociate with terrorists?!
I'm just glad we're not living in Britain... every time we go back... it's all just so dumpy and the exchange rate is down and hasn't been recovering for ages...

and... you might have an idea of what is happening inside the British army, James... - not good news either! Never thought britain would ever end up like this!

And when you are in the embassy or with the members of the chamber of commerce... they're just all so depressed... or drunk or corrupt...

- well really no worse than in other countries, but the reason it really pisses me off is because Britain was the country we've always most belonged to and I have most of my life fought against all that sloppyness and people not wanting to see or handle things and just pretending that everything is just fine, while the shit is hitting the fan...!

...so let's hope, my British family doesn't see this here...

I must say, I've "always" had my problems with British sloppyness, lack of (self-)discipline and them looking away, ignoring what is happening, not putting their foot down and not making the honorable decision, but doing this manipulating whimp-shit, which they call deplomacy and being so fucking polite and blind, while the shit really is hitting the fan!

Don't worry Holte, am not talking about you, just general frustration...

so my comment came through afterall? Thought it had gotten lost in cyberspace... probably good that my in-laws won't see this, they'd be getting a heart attack, if they weren't already dead...

Hi Sarah
I am sorry to say that it sounds like America. It is just a small part in the natural cycle in the degradation of a society
Jimbo is going to stay in until he retires but he is very disgruntled at what he sees happening to the military. Jim would be the one with extensive inside knowledge of Britain's military elite I will have to ask him!

jmsjoin said...

Don't you hate that when that happens Sarah?

It is an outrage to say the least.

We remember Reagan, no stranger to aiding contras and other terrorists, tried to assassinate Kadaffi and bombed his home killing his 5 year old adopted daughter. That was an act of terrorism as well. This may have led to the 747 bombing more than anything else.

The US certainly has its double standards when it comes to terror.

I'd never defend Kadaffi because he is a brutal thug and punk, but what comes around, goes around.

I haven't checked yet but I think there's more to the story than what first appears.
I'm reminded of a case out here in Washington from a few years back. A child molester kidnapped tortured and raped a brother and sister. He landed up killing the boy. I thought about the punishment. There wasn't anything in my opinion that our judicial system could do to him that would fit the crime.
Think about it for a minute. Megrahi will die a slow and painful death what more punishment could there be? If they keep him locked up then the citizens will foot the bill for his incarceration and very expensive treatments.
Then again there could be other reasons they let him go we don't know.

Demeur said...

Jim shame on you you didn't do your homework on this one. I see what happened now. Here's the short version.
Megrahi conviction was based on some very questionable evidence. A shop keeper said he IDed Megrahi in his shop some time before the bombing. Problem was he only said a Libyan looking man was in the shop. There's a bunch of other discrepencies in the case but now let's get to the kicker. Megrahi was appealing his conviction and it looked like he might have a good chance. This was after Libia had paid reparations to have their sanctions lifted. Money went to the families of those that died. If Megrahi had won his appeal then Lybia could have asked for the return of that money. So Megrahi dropped his appeal for his release.
Now you see what a mess that would have been. So you see this was about Scotland and Britain saving face and the well being of the families of the victims.

Dave I refuse to believe we let Scotland take the lead in the first place. Humanitarian grounds my ass he murdered 270 innocent people. They let him go WTF? What friggen message do they think that sends?

jmsjoin said...

Demeur you know, I am always amazed that in the world today we have devolved to the point where we hope somebody dies or are happy when they are killed. Anyway I hope he is as sick and close to death as we are led to believe.

jmsjoin said...

I knew all that Demeur but did not want to discuss that as far as I am concerned he was the only person convicted for murdering 270 people and in the eyes of family and the entire world at large he was set free on humanitarian grounds. The implications was only thought!

Demeur said...

You of all people support truth and justice no? If not we are no better than any terrorist. Or should we just round up the "usual suspects" and have Vichey justice. Now put down the pitch fork and torch you're starting to sound like the last administration.

jmsjoin said...

Demeur it is just a tiny part of the lie we lived under Bush. We will never know about the truth here either. I did not want to get into legalities we will never know but concentrate on the people who have to live with his release supposedly after being found guilty.
It would take a book and I suppose a book will be written some day but the truth will never be known.

It was wrong, wrong, wrong, to release him!

Interesting reaction Jim, but just a minute,.....
Let`s remember the massacre at My Lai, of almost 500 civilians, mostly old men, females and children.
William Calley was convicted in a court of law, and served just 42 months under house arrest, after intervention from Nixon, and protests across america in Calley`s name.
Also, as mentioned, Megrahi always denied guilt, and quite a few people speculate that he was patsy for the Iranians, who ordered the bombing in revenge for the shooting down of an airliner by the US.
Scotland is playing a political card partly for oil, maybe so, but at least they didn`t invade Iraq to get some!
There is also the need for the Scots to show a line between themselves and the English, with elections next year, the Scots want to dissolve their union, as do the Welsh. (The Irish, as you no doubt noticed, already left the "Barely united Kingdom.)

The world needs mercy and compassion, Jim. It's not as though they have video tapes or DNA, or any other forensic 'proof' that he was guilty. His guilt has ALWAYS been in question.

We need to get out of this revenge mode. Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. Maybe he IS guilty and the Lord is taking him out with the cancer.

But on the other hand, if he died in prison and it came to light that he was NOT guilty, how would you feel? What would you say? Would you just blow it off in Obamanesque fashion by saying, "We must look forward, not backward"?

Don't let a little anger tarnish your good heart, my friend.

jmsjoin said...

I agree Karen, I think it was Demeur who put up good points in Megrahi's behalf but I was concerned about the way it looked in the Muslim world and to so called western Nations!

jmsjoin said...

Hi Landsker
I know, and Haiditha in Iraq. I think Megrahi's release was a swap for oil. I was just listening to the Minister give his excuse again. What makes this worse is that pompous ass is so obviously disingenuous.

jmsjoin said...

I agree Brother and it is definitely not anger that motivates me on this one it is the fact that the extremists look at this as a victory and it is another slap down for the west.

The really sick thing about all this is the FBI Director Meuller having the nerve to talk of "rule of law" when he looked the other way during the Bush the son days

Hi Danny! I saw the E and was wondering what it was in regard to. I thought it might be this. My you have been prolific must have been the peach pie, All the scum looked the other way or were complicit enablers.

Everyone who quit and tells the truth are dismissed as disgruntled liars so the the lie we have been living since the Cheney regime can continue. Are we ever in serious doo doo if their lies prevail and they get back in power!
