Medvedev moving the world forward with food

We can thank Obama's reset button: Russia wants  new alliances with the United States and the European Union to stimulate trade and investment in one of his boldest foreign policy statements.

Signs of a new softer foreign policy toward the West have been growing since the global financial crisis exposed Russia's dependence on oil and gas exports, highlighting the need for an influx of foreign capital and technology. Whatever it is that brings us together does not matter. That we do is crucial to all our future. Medvedev made the country's modernization one of the pillars of his presidency, and there was a notable shift from the Cold-war era anti-Western statements of his predecessor Vladimir Putin to sweet-talking foreign partners and investors.

I am so glad the war mongers Bush and Putin are gone! Medvedev of course is right" "We need special alliances for modernization...first of all with Germany, France, Italy, the EU in general, and with the United States," he said during a speech to Russian ambassadors that takes place in Moscow every two years. The center of Medvedev's foreign policy has been a "reset" of relations with the United States, which had deteriorated in recent years, culminating in the signing of a major new nuclear arms control treaty in April.

EU to Russia: modernize We want 'fast forward', not 'reset'! They are listening, we have unity!

Obama is being credited and discredited for changing course on the MDS ( missile defense shield) and going with the Aegis system. We are told Russia has been emboldened and are taking advantage of their new power and a weakened America but I do not see it that way.

It just keeps getting better and we keep hearing from the war mongers on the right that we gave Russia the farm and screwed America and Europe. Quite the opposite is true! This is a win for everyone! Russia now knows they are not the target and have started being productive partners. All of Europe are winners as Russia's nukes will not be turned on them. The reset button has obviously been reset and we are seeing positive results from it every day. The latest: - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Monday for the formation of new alliances with the United States and the European Union to stimulate trade and investment in one of his boldest foreign policy statements. Yeah!

Ukraine leader wants quicker pace towards Europe

Europe interested in good Russian-Ukrainian relations - Yanukovych

Russia is not going to deploy Iskander missile systems in Kaliningrad region as a response to the deployment of the U.S. Patriot missile along the border in Poland, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.” Currently there are no intentions to deploy the Iskanders since the American Patriot missiles are the part of anti-aircraft defense, not anti-missile one, Russia not to deploy missiles due to US missiles deployed in Poland There would have been threats of war if this was the war monger Bush!

Russia will press the European Union to scrap visas for its citizens and seek the EU's help in modernizing its economy at a two-day summit beginning Monday. Russia seeks EU's help

I just love this obvious cooperation. It is a welcome change after Bush and Cheney's unilateral my way or the highway war mongering. This I am sure is all only possible because of Nobel peace prize winner President Obama pressing the reset button with Russia.

Russia has been through the school of hard knocks. They've suffered quite a lot through Perestroika and understand that bullshit is counterproductive.

Unfortunately, they seem to be the only adult on the playground. Though the articles you're posting and your commentary is very enheartening, I worry that no other nation has leaders that are mature and wise enough to step up to the plate and negotiate in good faith.

If Obama wants to make nice with them, he could start by handing Jeffrey Sachs over to them for criminal prosecution.

It's amazing what leaders can do.
As you pointed out the contrast with Bush and Cheney and Obama is stark.
This is one of those times when it's good to have the Great Appeaser as President.

I'm suspicious of Obama. Likely because he's been telling us an endless stream of lies for many years.

He gave Bush his full unwavering support all through the his administration. And all the while, he gave us speeches about how he opposed the very policies he kept voting for and working the floor to support.

I think the difference is that Obama hasn't been tasked with starting new wars. That groundwork has been laid. Now his job is to assist the IMF in stripping the USA of it's assets.

Russia is hitting some hard times. Their oil production is in decline and the heat wave is destroying their wheat production.

They know that if they don't lay the groundwork now to get ahead of their upcoming crisis, they'll be begging for aid later. They've been down that road before.

Russia knows that letting it's people die from famine, leads to revolutions.

If faced with the same sort of crisis, Obama would just let it slide. At least until the BBC starts broadcasting interviews with parents that are watching their children die.

It is true that Obama is less belligerent. But he constantly tells lies. There is no way that anyone can be sure of what his intentions are.

Wease we can hope and that is what I do. I think Obama is doing okay with Russia but I agree that Medvedev seems to be leading the way and not us. Bush was out shined by everyone not just Putin but Medvedev is showing a hell of a maturity I found surprising but maybe Putin is controlling him.

Tim it seems to be working out! Beats the hell out of the obvious war mongering and instigation to more war under Bush and Cheney.

Yeah wease he is guilty of being a Politician! His desire to please everyone irks me. He has to stop being the laid back nice guy and piss people off but I do like that at least internationally with China and Russia he seems to be making progress.

I think he's worse than a politician.

A politician is at least self serving. I've come to have the opinion that like Bush, he serves only the oil sheiks, that own our banks and provide war profiteering services in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Even a slimy politician, can still be a patriot. I do not count him as one.

I think both nations realize that nukes are nothing more than a money pit. Even those in our own military have said as much. When a col. gets transferred to the nuclear weapons program it's like he's been sent to the foreign legion.
Russia is more concerned with energy and the control of the gas lines. And yes I agree I think Putin is Medvedev's brain.

I wonder what happened to my comment anyway we knew where Bush's allegiance was but Obama seems to have none. I remember being at a party last summer and a friend who happens to be a nuclear and anthrax consultant for the US said Obama will be allowed to live as long as he keeps the war schedules stop them and he's a dead man.

Demeur I think they will continue to find new ways to kill that will not destroy the planet like Metalstorm

Hi James!

Howdy!

Slowly coming of my hiatus -- first stop a visit to this eruidite blog. :-)

Right off, not surprised Mr M of Russia, ever the businessman, knows that that military tension is the last thing Russia needs and he's right. Must say he seems to be a bright man.

Hope the entente cordiale continues.
