Obama's pick to lead military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and the Middle East says it is fun to kill, okay?

Controversial US general to head Central Command

Mattis: 'It's fun to shoot people'

President Obama's pick to lead military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and the Middle East is an experienced ground combat commander, but also earned a stern rebuke in 2005 for controversial comments about combat operations. With all the wars going on around the world he speaks his mind which is not always savory but he is the right man for the job.

Blunt General Appointed to Lead Forces in Mideast

I don't want to sound like a masochist or a right wing war mongering baby killer but it sounds to me like President Obama has picked the right man for the job. He was disciplined 5 years ago when he spoke the truth saying it was sometimes fun to kill those that harm and kill others. I believe he has since learned something I learned as a little kid and have said here often and that is engage brain before opening mouth!

Mattis would replace Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, who is in Afghanistan as the U.S. and NATO's top military officer there having taken over for McCrhystal after his ill fated interview where he and his staff openly mocked Obama and his war staff. I think Obama picked the right man for the job. I was pretty proud of the men he led in the battle of Fallujah in Iraq in 2004. In reclaiming that city I had a friend who won a silver star reclaiming bobby trapped houses and areas.

With his new job General Mattis would technically be in control of General Patraeus too. Patraeus got much of the credit for Afghanistan and what was done in Iraq but General Mattis was the man advising him. With the Pentagon now examining its media relations in the wake of the Rolling Stone article that ended McChrystal's career Gates has in Mattis the right man for the job, a general not known for cozy relations with reporters. Still, he values good press and pulls no punches, a quality I admire and remember from another great General.

As he was poised to cross into Iraq in 2003 with embedded reporters in tow, he quoted the Greek poet Pindar: "Unsung, the noblest deed will die." Sound familiar? Remember General Patton who was well known for his love of battle and quotes? 37 memorable quotes and quotations from General Patton

He may be the right man but it's the wrong job. No way are we going to build an entire nation that has never been a nation. We just don't have that much in the way of resources. Watching Holebrook spew how we must educate and train their police and judges and build their country makes me sick when we have 16+% unemployment in this country. Five billion a month sure could go a long way to getting this country back on track.

I am absolutely with Demeur.

That said, I don't really have a problem with Mattis this because this is what military types think and do. It's just the way it is.

For one thing, there are no socially redeeming qualities to be found among 95% of the Taliban. Never were. If our military were to have need of moving targets for practice, they could pick worse targets. Iraqis, for example.

But my main point for years has been that it is not the guys in uniforms that are the bad guys in this piece: it's the guys in suits in the Pentagon and the White House and the corporate boards.

One final point: We as a nation can no longer afford the munitions and petro we are squandering in Obamastan. Not to mention the blood.

Eight more were killed today.

There is no way we can make those Afghani tribes live under a central Government. They have nevr had one and do not need one the way they live.

I know Vig! Brits were killed yesterday by what they called a rogue soldier as I think you pointed out yesterday, You know as expected our deaths are increasing and at least a 1/2 dozen times our soldiers have been killed by Afghan terrorists in uniform working or being trained by us. You know I am also very concerned that my youngest volunteered to leave Iraq to go train the Afghan army and is on his way. I wish we would go home and let them implode!

There is no end game, Bush was criticized because he didn't have an exit strategy for Iraq. Why is Obama any better.
This General scares the piss out of me. I so don't like the direction were heading.

Tim Obama is no damn better, same fff'd up strategy only a better talker. He is going to keep us there until we join the graveyard of Nations if only to stay close to Pakistan's nukes!
