Capitalism run amok part 1: John Kenneth Galbraith

John Kenneth Galbraith was dead on when he said corporations were too powerful and had to be reigned in. Instead they are still getting bigger and more powerful. We are now a Corporatocracy controlled by the corporations. Our Supreme court gave them the right to spend as much money as they want to get what they want.

We are seeing right now the dangers to the planet and society of giving too much control to oil and energy companies. Remember when Bush and Cheney met secretly in the White House with the so called energy Czars? They decided what was right for them and their and Cheney and Bush's wallets while disregarding us and the planet. Cheney said they did not have to use the 1/2 million dollar acoustic valve that would have prevented this disaster.

The rest of the world by law has to use them but here they do not because this country belongs to the corporations not we the people. The companies that were working on the platform being questioned by Congress merely lied and put the blame on everyone else. Another worthless inquisition as those being questioned are in charge not that charade of a Congress. We have got to take our country back somehow!

In the 1950s, John Kenneth Galbraith cautioned that corporations were becoming too powerful. In the 1960s he warned President Kennedy about the dangers of unilateral military action abroad. Son of a gun!

He continually criticized conservative administrations' fiscal policies. He tried to bring environmental issues into the limelight. Son of a gun!

"He was a half of a century ahead of his time," said his biographer, Richard Parker.

His influence remained relevant long after his 1958 work "The Affluent Society" argued that the American economy produced individual wealth but did not adequately address public needs such as schools. Son of a gun!

The Canadian-born economist and unabashed liberal served as adviser to Democratic Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Bill Clinton and was John F. Kennedy's ambassador to India.

Galbraith, who was outspoken in his support of government intervention in social and economic problems, became a larger figure on the American political scene after World War II. How the hell can you justify ignoring a source of wealth like this?

Although an economist, his impact reached far beyond economic circles. He thought across disciplines, Benjamin Freeman, a Harvard economics professor and friend of Galbraith's said, "Not just in the field (of economics), but broadening the discourse to encompass the world at large."

With having advised the likes of Presidents Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Clinton I think he had a proven record of success.

His 1958 work "The Affluent Society" argued that the American economy produced individual wealth but did not adequately address public needs such as schools. Son of a gun! He hit the nail on the head, John Kenneth was 50 Years ahead of his time! We keep seeing the results of not listening to John Kenneth Galbraith.

Our US Corporatocracy and the gulf oil catastrophe proved John Kenneth Galbraith as a true visionary!

We do not need any more proof than the still developing Gulf oil disaster to realize John Kenneth Galbraith was dead on when he said corporations were too powerful and had to be reigned in. Instead they are still getting bigger and more powerful. We are now a Corporatocracy controlled by the corporations. * He hit the nail on the head and here it was nearly 50 years later and we had to have bush prove it out on us. John Kenneth was 50 Years ahead of his time! We could only wish Bush knew this and cared about the public's needs! son of a gun! Now under President Obama and 60 years later corporations are getting bigger and more powerful. Besides the financial collapse and now the still developing oil disaster in the Gulf we see the results of not listening to John Kenneth Galbraith.

Supreme Court lifts overall limits on congressional campaign donations allowing big money to own our Democracy

BP calls for cautious move into arctic: BP?

Oil companies need to address local, national and global concerns before moving ahead with offshore arctic development, a BP official said in Norway. Warmer average global temperatures are melting arctic sea ice and glaciers, exposing vast areas that could hold oil and natural gas reserves.

Daly said there is a notable dilemma, however, as environmental voices grow louder while energy demand increases. "This will require a level of openness and transparency that our industry has not achieved so far," he said. "It will challenge beliefs around information and transparency to the very core of our companies."
Our BP is saying this?

BP is moving forward drilling in the Arctic with a Russian company "disastrous" plus Shell working on US okay. Carefully? That Russian company has a worse record than BP if you can believe that. Chevron isn't much better. The only way to proceed safely is to "stay out"

BP is still going to be drilling in the Arctic but now with a Russian company with a more disastrous record plus Shell is also still going forward. What a frigging nightmare! Read the story at the link and Shell is filling us with the same crap that BP did. They can handle it, it's safe, my rear!

“Although Greenland last year refused drilling concessions to BP because it lacked rigorous enough safety protocols, BP appears to have found a more willing back door to the pristine Arctic environment via the Russian firm Rosneft,” said Ivan Blokov, Campaign Director, Greenpeace Russia."Given that in 2009 alone, Rosneft had 12,000 pipeline breaks, 7526 of which resulted in oil leaks, it would be an understatement to say we are concerned about these two companies operating together in Arctic.” This is scary stuff! Man this is still too close to home and a disaster in the making. They are destroying our frigging world at an ever increasing rate.

Remember when the still "ongoing" Mexico Gulf disaster was going on? Look what they were going to do for us. A Russian company doing this scares the hell out of me. The U.S. Government confirmed the drilling “pause” does not apply to BP’s new project, called Liberty. BP is going to build a small 5 acre island and drill down 2 miles before drilling 6 to 8 miles sideways in another never before done scheme? No way, come on! This boondoggle is still scheduled to go ahead despite their terrible record of so called accidents and disregard for following common sense? despite that blow out valves fail 40% of the time?"

.On May 25, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) August 2011 decision to permit Shell to drill in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas off Alaska’s north shore.

“The deep-water moratorium we had in place did not apply to this particular project, which would have been based from a man-made island and would have potentially been drilling directionally into formations under shallow water. If drilling permit applications were submitted for the project, the Department of the Interior would have reviewed them at the appropriate time and determine, based on safety and other considerations, whether the project should move forward with drilling under federal waters,” said Kendra Barkoff, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of the Interior. What the hell is wrong with us to even to think of this? Our desperation is grotesquely misplaced!

So they’re really going to even consider a project as complicated as this one involving a drill down two miles, then turn and bore another six to eight miles more to get to oil on Federally owned land. BP? They can not be stupid enough to trust them in the country let alone drilling more precariously than the disaster they just created. Proceed safely? Think of the environment first?

Someone better hit the stop button! Remember Bush and Cheney's secret White House meetings with the so called energy czars? Remember, the rest of the world by law must use an acoustic valve in case of emergency that would have prevented this. Since oil ran this country Bush and Cheney decided at 1/2 million per valve it was too expensive for oil companies as profit and cutting corners was their only goal not the people and the environment. All inspections of drilling and platforms stopped in 2001. Obama's mistake was not re instituting them instantly but he better do it before he lets those idiots drill in the Arctic.

Remember where life began! We have allowed BP to unleash a volcano of death in the bottom of our chain of life killing life in the ocean that gave life to us. We can not let them add the Arctic to their list of nightmares. Our planet is shrinking. The planet is one life system and everything is interconnected, everything affected by everything else eventually. As I taught my kids, the ocean is like a giant washing machine. What goes around eventually comes around. Why can't people ever look at the big picture, see the big picture, or think of the repercussions of their actions before they act? Engage brain before moving!

BP has done absolutely nothing right period from the get go or the disaster in the Gulf never would have happened. They obviously have never used the necessary technology to deal with this disaster they just got the equipment so they could use the lie that they were prepared. Nothing has gone right! Minimizing the ecological damage and helping the people whose lives they have destroyed they could care less about. Minimizing their financial liability and staying in control of their disaster is all that matters. We can not let them ply their destruction in the Arctic too!

Now unbeknownst to me we plan on allowing Chevron to drill in the Arctic too. We know what happened in the Gulf of Mexico and we see the still unfolding nightmare from the disaster in the North sea with oil and deadly gas thrown in. Why do we seem to be racing to destroy the planet. It can only take so much and we have made a horrible mess to date. Why not hydrogen and or natural gas as a major energy replacement? We have to stop this if it is not too lat already!

House committee passes ban on future BP leases: The damage is done but it's about time!

This is a start but with BP's record of cutting costs and corners creating many disasters, accidents, and deaths it is about time but too late for the gulf and hopefully not the world. The hell with the damn pause button someone better hit the stop button! Remember Bush and Cheney's secret White House meetings with the so called energy czars? Remember, the rest of the world by law must use an acoustic valve in case of emergency that would have prevented this.

BP's History of Oil Spills and Accidents: Same Strategy, Different Day

Since oil ran this country Bush and Cheney decided at 1/2 million per valve it was too expensive for oil companies as profit and cutting corners was their only goal not the people and the environment. All inspections of drilling and platforms stopped in 2001. Obama's mistake was not re instituting them instantly but he better do it before he lets those idiots drill in the Arctic. I am psyched they are now reeling in BP and controlling them. We can not allow them to further destroy the world and they will very happily. I am peeved!

Jean-Michel Cousteau urges widespread involvement to ban any new offshore oil drilling and to increase support for renewable energy. He correctly said the Gulf is the greatest environmental disaster of our lifetimes and it has only just begun. Jean-Michel Cousteau, one of the world's leading ocean explorers, has spoken of his “frustration at the human species” over the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster.

This is going around the world as it is going to the Gulf Stream. I was ridiculed when I first said that but with the likes of Jean Michael Cousteau stating this is a chain that will kill everything it touches in the ocean and everything that lives because of it "think about that" also that it will get into every other ocean we have still unfolding a disaster of epic proportions just beginning to unfold. We can not add the Arctic to that! We must stop BP, allow them to drill but keep them under total control.

All about deep sea drilling, oil spill clean up, and Jean Michal Cousteau

I just want you to see this gem! The Norwegian Pollution Authority gives top rating to "oil swallow"

I was and am concerned that the U.S. Government confirmed the drilling “pause” does not apply to BP’s new project, called Liberty. BP is going to build a small 5 acre island and drill down 2 miles before drilling 6 to 8 miles sideways in another never before done scheme? No way, come on! This boondoggle is still scheduled to go ahead despite their terrible record of so called accidents and disregard for following common sense? despite that blow out valves fail 40% of the time?" I am increasingly concerned and confused as the likes of Jean Michal admits the sea ecosystem is way too complex for anyone to understand or interfere with while at the same time saying we have the technology to clean up the oil. What about the sea life though?

“The deep-water moratorium does not apply to this particular project, which is based from a man-made island and would potentially be drilling directionally into formations under shallow water. If drilling permit applications are submitted for the project, the Department of the Interior will review them at the appropriate time and determine, based on safety and other considerations, whether the project should move forward with drilling under federal waters,” said Kendra Barkoff, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of the Interior.

So they’re really going to even consider a project as complicated as this one involving a drill down two miles, then turn and bore another six to eight miles more to get to oil on Federally owned land. BP? They can not be stupid enough to trust them in the country let alone drilling more precariously than the disaster they just created. BP plans to move ahead with offshore oil drilling in Arctic

I am very confused by all this! The mantra of "drill baby drill" seems to hold sway period and the likes of those of us that care and the Kevin Costner's and Jean Michal Cousteau's of the world will be there to try and clean up the mess they create. What about life? Sea life, planetary life, is not the issue. Money, business, putting existing life to work is the only issue, what kind of a future is this?

What the hell is wrong with us? The hell with the damn pause button someone better hit the stop button! I asked the question why can't people ever look at the big picture, see the big picture, or think of the repercussions of their actions before they act? They are I am sad to say!

In our eyes BP has done absolutely nothing right period from the get go or the disaster in the Gulf never would have happened. My thought as yours is, is that we can not let them ply their destruction in the Arctic too! I am sad to say they can and will. They have done everything right. They cut corners made billions for the company and shareholders. Now they just stop the gusher and they have succeeded' The rest will be up to the Jean Michal Cousteau's of the world who will clean up their mess but what about life?

Jean-Michel Cousteau urges widespread involvement to ban any new offshore oil drilling and to increase support for renewable energy. He correctly said the Gulf is the greatest environmental disaster of our lifetimes and it has only just begun. Jean-Michel Cousteau, one of the world's leading ocean explorers, has spoken of his “frustration at the human species” over the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. Dispatch from the Gulf Oil Spill: Philippe Cousteau Tours the Wetlands, Oil Refineries (Photos and Video)

We can not add the Arctic to that as far as I'm concerned but they are willing to as they expect technology can make things right. I absolutely doubt it!

Jean Michel Cousteau says gulf oil spill more than a sea change but we can clean it with technology Gulf Oil Spill: More than a Sea Change | Ocean Futures Society

Cousteau endorses non-chemical process to help clean up Gulf spill

Cousteau Says Technology Can Clean Gulf Oil Now

They do not care as we are expendable! BP was the lead in the consortium operating the Exxon Valdez. I was disturbed finding out the attitude, this, and what Jean Michal Cousteau said about technology. People do not matter but they have the technology to re-oxygenate the water and suck up and separate the dispersant and oil saving the oil and putting clean water back to the tune of a million gallons per day for each of the 24 machines that are waiting for word to be put on barges and sent out. I am nonplussed right now! ecosphere re-oxidizes while separating the dispersant and oil, endorsed by Jean Michal Cousteau

The attitude I now know is destroy what you want to get what we want and we have the technology to make it whole again. Others will clean up the mess!

* In closing and I am sure we can all agree but what I'm hearing about the gulf oil spill is unsettling, disturbing, pleasing, pleasing and scary. Do we have this much power? Or is it as I think we can agree? We think we can do what we want because once we destroy everything we have the technology to rebuild and renew it and I doubt it!

Holy Crap BP's Going to Drill the Arctic! after their piss poor safety record and what they did to the Gulf?

What goes around eventually comes around. Why can't people ever look at the big picture, see the big picture, or think of the repercussions of their actions before they act?

BP has done absolutely nothing right period from the get go or the disaster in the Gulf never would have happened. They obviously have never used the necessary technology to deal with this disaster they just got the equipment so they could use the lie that they were prepared. Nothing has gone right! Minimizing the ecological damage and helping the people whose lives they have destroyed they could care less about. Minimizing their financial liability and staying in control of their disaster is all that matters. We can not let them ply their destruction in the Arctic too!

look at the videos, they cracked the damn sea bed Can we afford to let them do this in the Arctic?

Jean-Michel Cousteau urges widespread involvement to ban any new offshore oil drilling and to increase support for renewable energy.

He correctly said the Gulf is the greatest environmental disaster of our lifetimes and it has only just begun. Jean-Michel Cousteau, one of the world's leading ocean explorers, has spoken of his “frustration at the human species” over the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. Dispatch from the Gulf Oil Spill: Philippe Cousteau Tours the Wetlands, Oil Refineries (Photos and Video)

Grill baby grill not drill baby drill!

On her face book page that ditz is making it clear that “radical environmentalists” are the ones who are really causing this catastrophe a mile under the sea. Couldn't be because BP ignored all failure warnings to get the oil up? She went on to say “Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice to meet our country’s energy needs, but your protests and lawsuits and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas. It’s catching up with you. It isn't catching up to her? What planet does she live on?

Heck I don't recall anything like this on land but there is always accidents. To recommend drilling in Anwar is sick even for her and I do not like the idea of drilling in our bays or near our beaches either. That oil is long gone anyway and she is as tapped out as that supply of oil. She should be held accountable for passing misinformation or for misremembering, whatever you want to call it!

'Drill, Baby, Drill' May Haunt Effort to Taint Obama

Take over BP president Obama, take control of their assets, and put them in receivership or conservatorship. Though James Cameron is a movie director he is known as the expert in dealing with the technology needed to fix this growing BP caused oil disaster. He said after 2 weeks of watching the BP circus his first thought was that they were morons and we can all agree with that!

BP has no clue what they are doing nor do they want the people to know how bad this is or how bad the affect is going to be around the world. Originally BP's worst case scenario was this would go on until August, I automatically thought October, and now we are hearing it could be Christmas. Can anyone say 1 billion gallons of oil destroying the gulf, heading to Texas and Mexico then around the tip of Florida into the Gulf Stream up the East Coast over to Europe and around the world? We have a world disaster here, BP wants to hide it and the world does not know it!

Put BP on trial! Time to find out what was going on in those secret energy meetings between Bush/Cheney and the oil companies besides agreeing to stop all platform and well inspections and a reported 35 million dollar greasing of Cheney's hands. This is going to be bad and we can't allow this to happen again. I heard this will be in North Carolina by July. The Gulf stream usually brings warm water and Blues up here to Ma. and Maine in August. I wonder what it will bring this year?

Obama's Presidency defined by Bush Legacy of world financial disaster, unnecessary war, and corporatocracy and the oil disaster

President Barack Obama, his presidency bogged down in the Gulf oil spill, lashed out at Republicans Wednesday, linking their deregulatory philosophy to misdeeds by bankers, insurers and oil companies. Bingo, it's about time now put Rahm Emanuel in Louisiana and in direct control of BP and the Gulf clean up and get this done right!Speech Highlights: Obama Hits Republicans, Pledges to Find Votes for Energy

BP is poisoning the cleanup workers with their oil and poisonous dispersant mix and they are trying to say it could be food poison. I mean cut the crap! These people have been on the sea all their life and never been sick a day in their life and some of them are still down for the count. James Cameron called a spade a spade by saying BP was a bunch of inept morons so though he is the expert they turned down his offer to help.

Seize BP's assets, take over control of this mess, the Government should be in control of this oil war not the proven inept BP. I think even the small Government Republicans will agree with that. Obama was right when he lashed out at Republicans Wednesday, linking their deregulatory philosophy to misdeeds by bankers, insurers and oil companies. John Boehner's immediate response was to continue to cry and play childish political games. Concern for our America and the world has got to take precedence over the every day childish politics. We are in serious trouble here, grow up!

President Obama listens to John Kenneth Galbraith ties Republican deregulatory philosophy to misdeeds by bankers, insurers and oil companies

President Obama is following John Kenneth Galbraith's philosophy, finally!

The catastrophe unfolding in the Gulf and beyond never would have happened if John Kenneth Galbraith's words were listened to by Bush and Cheney. Thank God Obama is listening!

We do not need any more proof than the still developing Gulf oil disaster to realize John Kenneth Galbraith was dead on when he said corporations were too powerful and had to be reigned in. Instead they are still getting bigger and more powerful. We are now a Corporatocracy controlled by the corporations. Our Supreme court just gave them the right to spend as much money as they want to get what they want.

We are seeing right now the dangers to the planet and society of giving too much control to oil companies.

Jean-Michel Cousteau on the gulf disaster: This is the greatest environmental disaster of our lifetimes and it has only just begun

With the Gulf of Mexico oil spill still increasing, Jean-Michel Cousteau urges widespread involvement to ban any new offshore oil drilling and to increase support for renewable energy.

Jean-Michel Cousteau interviews Billy Nungesser, President of the Plaquemines Parish in Louisiana, where oil is now entering nearby marshes. Matt Ferraro of the Ocean Futures Expedition Team explores the now oily marsh and finds plants and animals coated in oil.
