Death sentences, executions take 'historic drop,' report says:
Death sentences, executions take 'historic drop,' report says: The release of the annual report by the Death Penalty Information Center follows recent polls showing a withering of support for capital punishment over controversial cases like that of Troy Davis, who was executed in Georgia in September. The decline in the use of the death penalty also has likely been influenced by states’ worsening financial conditions, said Richard Dieter, the center’s executive director.

I've said it before but many of us have a moral problem with the death penalty in light of the many recently highlight cases of those put to death who were railroaded and were innocent.. Plain and simple, it's barbaric. I don't care whether it's Davis, an African American who steadfastly proclaimed he did not murder Mark MacPhail, a white, off-duty police officer; or Lawrence Brewer, one of three white assailants convicted in the dragging death of James Byrd who was murdered for being black. Brewer was executed in Texas, the capital-punishment capital, also Wednesday, In fact, Texas has walked 475 people to slaughter since 1976.
I thought we were making progress but what the hell is going on of late? Illinois joined the ranks of those outlawing the death penalty! I am glad for the historic drop but why can't the entire US at least use the death penalty only in obvious deserved necessary cases?
The last fifteen death row inmates in Illinois will live out their days in jail cells, instead of dying on a execution gurney, now that capital punishment has officially ended in the state. What are your thoughts on that? The ban took effect on Friday, July 1st But the state Department of Corrections began emptying the death row cells in Pontiac in March. The prisoners have been evaluated and moved to other maximum security facilities throughout Illinois, department spokeswoman Stacey Solano said.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinnz signed into law a ban on the death penalty on March 9, saying it was impossible to fix a system that had wrongly condemned at least 20 innocent men. Illinois death row inmates moved to regular jail cells No kidding!
China, Iran, North Korea, Yemen, and the United States lead the world in carrying out the most death sentences. Amnesty International: Death penalty on decline, US in top 5 That's quite the company to be proud of isn't it?
What do you think about the death penalty? My thoughts below; Thirty-four states, including Virginia and Maryland, allow capital punishment. All use lethal injection, and, until recently, most had used a three-drug cocktail: sodium thiopental to render the condemned unconscious, pancuronium bromide to paralyze the prisoner and potassium chloride to stop the heart. They can no longer get their hands on it. What do you think about the death penalty? My thoughts below

If you read my stories in the past on this you know I have mixed feelings on the death penalty. Often times a person may be arrested and sentenced to death knowing they were innocent just to further someone's career or to quell the public. Now that we have DNA testing we are finding too often we have the wrong man. We have seen it too often
I do believe the death penalty is justified as in the case of the Fort Hood shootings and the Jared Loughner's shootings where they should be put to death immediately with no trial. They should not have a venue to plead their case. Sane or insane they did it wantonly and publicly, that is all that matters. Cases like those aside I am no longer comfortable with the death penalty being justified because of the horror of the crime because we can not be certain we have the right person unless we actually see them do the deserved crime.

World shocked by US execution of Troy Davis: Death penalty on decline worldwide, Still the US is in the top 5, what is going on here?
Alabama carries out third US execution in a week: The execution followed two high-profile lethal injections this week in Georgia and Texas. In a case that drew international attention, Troy Davis was put to death in Georgia on Wednesday for the murder of a police officer despite claims by his advocates that he may have been innocent.
World shocked by US execution of Troy Davis: World figures, including Pope Benedict XVI and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, human rights groups and commentators urged the execution to be halted -- but to no avail. On Wednesday Davis was put to death by lethal injection for the 1989 killing of off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail despite doubts being raised over the conviction.
The execution sparked angry reactions and protests in European capitals -- as well as outrage on social media. "We strongly deplore that the numerous appeals for clemency were not heeded," the French foreign ministry said. "There are still serious doubts about his guilt," said Germany's junior minister for human rights Markus Loening. "An execution is irreversible -- a judicial error can never be repaired."
The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles made its decision less than three hours before Samuel David Crowe, 47, was to be executed, according to a spokeswoman for the state's prisons. "After careful and exhaustive consideration of the requests, the board voted to grant clemency. The board voted to commute the sentence to life without parole," the parole board said.
Crowe's death would have marked the third execution since the U.S. Supreme Court lifted an unofficial moratorium on the death penalty last month. Crowe was not present at the parole board hearing in Atlanta. He had already eaten his last meal and was preparing to enter the execution chamber at the prison in Jackson, Georgia, Mallie McCord of the Georgia Department of Corrections said.
You are hearing the usual conjections as to race because Davis was Black and Crowe is white but this fast pace of killing convicts is moving too fast, maybe because of election season but Georgia and Texas seem to be an a race as to who can kill more. Enough is enough!
I've said it before but many of us have a moral problem with the death penalty in light of the many recently highlight cases of those put to death who were railroaded and were innocent.. Grill baby grill not drill baby drill!
On her face book page that ditz is making it clear that “radical environmentalists” are the ones who are really causing this catastrophe a mile under the sea. Couldn't be because BP ignored all failure warnings to get the oil up? She went on to say “Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice to meet our country’s energy needs, but your protests and lawsuits and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas. It’s catching up with you. It isn't catching up to her? What planet does she live on?
Heck I don't recall anything like this on land but there is always accidents. To recommend drilling in Anwar is sick even for her and I do not like the idea of drilling in our bays or near our beaches either. That oil is long gone anyway and she is as tapped out as that supply of oil. She should be held accountable for passing misinformation or for misremembering, whatever you want to call it!

Take over BP president Obama, take control of their assets, and put them in receivership or conservatorship. Though James Cameron is a movie director he is known as the expert in dealing with the technology needed to fix this growing BP caused oil disaster. He said after 2 weeks of watching the BP circus his first thought was that they were morons and we can all agree with that!
BP has done absolutely nothing right period from the get go or this never would have happened. They obviously have never used the necessary technology to deal with this disaster they just got the equipment so they could use the lie that they were prepared. Nothing has gone right! Minimizing the ecological damage and helping the people whose lives they have destroyed they could care less about. Minimizing their financial liability and staying in control of their disaster is all that matters.
BP has no clue what they are doing nor do they want the people to know how bad this is or how bad the affect is going to be around the world. Originally BP's worst case scenario was this would go on until August, I automatically thought October, and now we are hearing it could be Christmas. Can anyone say 1 billion gallons of oil destroying the gulf, heading to Texas and Mexico then around the tip of Florida into the Gulf Stream up the East Coast over to Europe and around the world? We have a world disaster here, BP wants to hide it and the world does not know it!
Put BP on trial! Time to find out what was going on in those secret energy meetings between Bush/Cheney and the oil companies besides agreeing to stop all platform and well inspections and a reported 35 million dollar greasing of Cheney's hands. This is going to be bad and we can't allow this to happen again. I heard this will be in North Carolina by July. The Gulf stream usually brings warm water and Blues up here to Ma. and Maine in August. I wonder what it will bring this year?

Obama's Presidency defined by Bush Legacy of world financial disaster, unnecessary war, and corporatocracy and the oil disaster
President Barack Obama, his presidency bogged down in the Gulf oil spill, lashed out at Republicans Wednesday, linking their deregulatory philosophy to misdeeds by bankers, insurers and oil companies. Bingo, it's about time now put Rahm Emanuel in Louisiana and in direct control of BP and the Gulf clean up and get this done right!Speech Highlights: Obama Hits Republicans, Pledges to Find Votes for Energy

BP is poisoning the cleanup workers with their oil and poisonous dispersant mix and they are trying to say it could be food poison. I mean cut the crap! These people have been on the sea all their life and never been sick a day in their life and some of them are still down for the count. James Cameron called a spade a spade by saying BP was a bunch of inept morons so though he is the expert they turned down his offer to help.
Seize BP's assets, take over control of this mess, the Government should be in control of this oil war not the proven inept BP. I think even the small Government Republicans will agree with that. Obama was right when he lashed out at Republicans Wednesday, linking their deregulatory philosophy to misdeeds by bankers, insurers and oil companies. John Boehner's immediate response was to continue to cry and play childish political games. Concern for our America and the world has got to take precedence over the every day childish politics. We are in serious trouble here, grow up!

BP doubles estimate of oil siphoned from leak: who the hell cares? Their and Salazar’s lie is headed to the gulf stream!
BP doubles estimate of oil siphoned from leak
Obama to name special panel on oil disaster
Oil, dispersants could smother deep-sea reefs
BP rig inspections were fewer than advertised
Hurricane season nears, adding to worries
This is a catastrophe! "All efforts on the shoreline and at sea, the booms and structures and rigs involved in cleanup and containment, could stop working."As thousands of spill responders gird for a cleanup that could last for months or years after the leaking well is capped, weather and ocean currents are emerging as major unknowns, raising anxiety levels, economic and environmental stakes in the Gulf as storm season nears.
Compounding the uncertainty is how little research has been done on how storms affect oil spills. Some believe storm surges may help disperse the oil off shore or break down the slick. Other research suggests the oil slick itself could keep storms from gathering strength.
NYT: Large undersea plumes found innumerable and the one they measured was 10 miles by 30 miles and 300 feet thick!
nteractive: Trajectory of the oil spill
It is too frigging late now, it was a given from day one we were lied to, this was disastrous, it was monstrously larger than they are still admitting, and it was head to the Gulf stream. Anyway now Scientists are worried that oil is streaming into a major ocean current that could carry it through the Florida Keys and up the East Coast.
please watch the video Whistleblower More than a year before the Deepwater Horizon exploded, a veteran oil industry manager raised concerns about BP's safety practices on an offshore platform. NBC's Lisa Myers reports.
watch asBP's haste lays waste to Gulf waters Rachel Maddow shares reports that BP's pressure on Transocean to skip steps in the drilling process to expedite oil extraction from the well led to the explosion that killed 11 workers and created an ecological catastrophe.
The day this happened and I warned of the enormous lie and definite catastrophe as this is a frigging oil well not a pipeline. I warned of the obvious fact that this was going to enter the gulf stream and head up the East coast before it crossed the Atlantic hit Europe and Norway before it went full circle. During its course it will hit all the other currents as they are interconnected.

Supposedly the Government said the tar balls have started washing up at Key West and they were 6 or 8 inches wide. I saw a report and there was 20 and they were up to 30 inch tar balls. Secretary Salazar's head should roll along with Bush Cheney and all the rest of those involved with this oil lie. They better close them down before we have a worse disaster there. Supposedly there are worse wells there that would dwarf this horrific mess.
Salazar says the Government is partially responsible for not doing their job and enforcing the law. That gets BP off the hook. Screw them, drain the swamp. We and the world have to live with this somehow. As we said from day one, it does not take a so called expert or a scientist, this is going to be enormous and is already catastrophic. Look at the big picture! Look down the future! They brag they spent 650 million so far. Just shut up!

Scientists say broken rig was spilling up to 20 times more oil than was estimated: I heard up to 2.5 million gallons per day, Remember the Gulf stream?
BP oil spill cap delayedbut supposedly now capped
Undersea robots tried to thread a small tube into the jagged pipe that is pouring oil into the Gulf of Mexico early Friday in BP's latest attempt to cut down on the spill from a blown-out well that has pumped out more than 4 million gallons of crude at least according to estimates based on BP's lying underestimate to hide the truth as to how bad this really is.
Remember our discussion on this oil hitting the Gulf Stream as it will and what about Mexico ? We cannot allow this to get to the Gulf Stream . Boom efforts have been stopped because efforts were futile. They better concentrate their efforts on stopping that growing massive spill before it reaches the Gulf Stream . Gulf oil geyser heading towards the Gulf stream unabated as you now know, it is as bad as I said and much worse than they admitted to or maybe even realize.
I do not care what lies they tell, this is a massive unprecedented environmental disaster and it will be a catastrophe if it makes it to theGulf Stream ! So far 6800 square miles of prime fishing area have been shut down from fishing. The size of the undulating spill was about 3,650 square miles, or the size of Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

So far the massive oil field has spread more than 60 miles as it headed for Florida 's east coast and temporarily turned around heading west towards Mexico . It will turn again! . God forbid they let it reach the Gulf Stream While BP searches for ways to save their oil. BP says they will pay for this. BS, we will all pay for this especially if it reaches the Gulf Stream .
If this massive oil gusher that has already poured a minimum of 4 million gallons of crude oil which I am sure is under estimated reaches theGulf Stream we are in serious trouble! Cap that well now! If that oil reaches the Gulf Stream capped well or not it will be disastrous to the East coast and the world.

You know the influence the gulf stream has on ocean temperatures. However I ask what influence would it have with millions of gallons of oil possibly altering its speed and temperature? Besides the shellfish, fish, birds, and the breeding grounds of innumerable other forms of wild life and man I ask what affect will this have in speeding up the melting of the ice caps? The entire world better wake up and become activated. This is one more problem the entire world must work on as like it or not this is going to in one way or the other affects us all.
Those asses highlighting every day how much money they are spending on this. To hell with them! They spent 375 million; I don't want to hear it. 375 Billion Then we'll talk but will not listen. They will never remedy what they did to man and the environment and they do not care!
