Red sludge reservoir 'ready to collapse' as Hungary fears 2nd toxic spill

Red sludge only latest Hungarian calamity

I thought 180 million gallons of that toxic radioactive sludge dumped in the towns, country side, and water supply was horrific. Environmental groups are now warning of other potential disasters, among them seven storage ponds about 60 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of Budapest that hold 12 million tons of sludge accumulated since 1945, more than 10 times the amount that spilled last week

A high risk of another up to 500,000 cubic meters of even thicker sludge escaping the reservoir due to a deterioration of a wall in the stricken part of the reservoir. the interior minister informed us that cracks have appeared in the northern wall of the reservoir, whose corner collapsed, which make it likely that the entire wall will collapse. Hungary's premier says red sludge reservoir walls 'very likely' to collapse

Hungary raced against time on Sunday to erect a dam around a ruptured reservoir and divert a new wave of toxic sludge that threatens to overwhelm already devastated villages. Remember the Danube and the already dead tributaries leading to it!

A huge and more toxic torrent will escape damaged reservoir soon, government warns, as neighboring countries wait for effect on Danube.Hungary braces for second wave of toxic sludge

For the life of me I don't understand why these companies don't take and pump this waste in old played out coal mines. It's not like there aren't a ton of them around just waiting to collapse.

Damn good idea Demeur I wish you could suggest it. It sounds like the collapse is under way and at this point they are panicking and preparing to deal with it. I am amazed that has been there since 1945. Russia at to be held accountable not just the guy in charge they are after.
