Hagel is upset with some of McCain's comments on Iran. Unfazed McCain moves on to lie about Obama's intentions with Cuba! will Republicans jump ship?

CNN) — John McCain needs to cool his rhetoric attacking Barack Obama over foreign policy, one of the Arizona senator's good friends in the Senate said. According to a report on Huffington post.com, Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Republican and long time friend of McCain, said Tuesday he is "very upset" with some of the things the party's presumptive presidential nominee has been saying as he campaigns for the White House. "We know from past campaigns that presidential candidates will say many things," Hagel reportedly said. "But once they have the responsibility to govern the country and lead the world, that difference between what they said and what responsibilities they have to fulfill are vastly different."

"I'm very upset with John with some of the things he's been saying," Hagel added. "And I can't get into the psychoanalysis of it. But I believe that John is smarter than some of the things he is saying. He is, he understands it more. John is a man who reads a lot, he's been around the world. I want him to get above that and maybe when he gets into the general election, and becomes the general election candidate he will have a higher-level discourse on these things." Hagel, who is not running for reelection in November, has become an outspoken critic of the War in Iraq and he said in April he is open to the possibility of endorsing Obama's candidacy.

Speaking Tuesday night at the Italian ambassador's Washington residence, Hagel specifically took issue with McCain's criticisms of Obama's position that he would be willing to meet with leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinjad without preconditions. "I never understand how anyone in any realm of civilized discourse could sort through the big issues and challenges and threats and figure out how to deal with those without engaging in some way," Hagel said. Hagel's comments follow a prolonged back and forth between both McCain and Obama over the best way to deal with Iran. Speaking to CNN Tuesday, Obama said McCain "essentially wants to continue George Bush’s policies of not talking to leaders we don’t like and not talking to countries we don’t like." McCain suggested at a Chicago campaign event Monday that Obama doesn’t understand the "basic realities of international relations" and that engaging Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad diplomatically would only embolden him. "Senator Obama has declared, and repeatedly reaffirmed his intention to meet the President of Iran without any preconditions, likening it to meetings between former American Presidents and the leaders of the Soviet Union," said McCain. "Such a statement betrays the depth of Senator Obama’s inexperience and reckless judgment. Some Republicans revolt against McCain's Lies

Also Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama continued their tussle over foreign policy Tuesday, shifting their argument to whether the U.S. should engage Cuba's communist regime. Sen. John McCain addresses a town hall meeting in Miami, Florida, Tuesday. Over the last few days, the two have sparred over whether the U.S. should engage diplomatically with another regime considered hostile to the U.S. -- Iran. At a Tuesday campaign event in Miami, Florida, McCain attacked Obama's position in favor of a possible relaxation of the Cuban embargo policy and discussions with the leadership of the island nation.

"These steps would send the worst possible signal to Cuba's dictators -- there is no need to undertake fundamental reforms, they can simply wait for a unilateral change in U.S. policy. I believe we should give hope to the Cuban people, not to the Castro regime," said the presumed Republican nominee, saying the embargo needed to remain in place until the Cuban government democratized. Watch McCain blast Obama's stance toward Cuba »

But in an interview with CNN, Obama, the front-runner in the Democratic presidential race and potentially McCain's rival in the general election, said McCain had mischaracterized his position on Cuba. "I have never said that I was prepared to immediately normalize relations with Cuba," Obama said. "The only person who has flip-flopped on this issue is John McCain, who in 2000 said that he would be prepared to start normalizing relations even if a whole host of steps have not been taken. That is a reversal from the position he is taking now." Obama said Tuesday that his policy, which would loosen restrictions on remittances from Cubans living in the United States to relatives on the island, and on their travel between the United States and Cuba would be "a show of good faith" that would help move the U.S.-Cuba relationship "in the direction of normalization." McCain just won't stop lying

My question is will republicans start Jumping ship as they realize the continued lies and war mongering of McCain and what thet would mean to our and the worlds future?

It's quite funny to me this tactic of giving leaders the cold shoulder. I mean, has it ever proven to be effective? Has Cuba changed that much since the 60s, when we first gave the country the cold shoulder? I think this tactic is immature in any situation. But then again, look at who we're talking about. The "Grand" OOOOOOLD Party

Is he lying? Lying requires that you be cognizant of the lie.

In other words, you have to know the truth, and be misrepresenting it.

Misrepresenting the truth, because you believe in the misrepresentation, is known as, 'Being Wrong'.

I get the sense that McCain believes what he is saying.

I also get the sense that McCain is gullible and easily manipulated.

The next four years of expanding war will not go well under his rule. Heck they won't go well anyway. I doubt any president will be prepared for simultaneous wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran Syria and Lebanon, with no mission or objectives.

But McCain will be blown about by the whims of his cabinet. He'll be indecisive. He will be unable to understand his role. He will not lead.

Politically, this is going to be a stinker presidency. The MSM will blast anyone that wants to get us out of an expanding war. They will make heroes out of anyone that simply maintains WWIII.

And there will be no winners.

Many people say that the draft will end the wars. I still don't see it. That argument makes the assumption that the people have any political clout. Maybe ten years after the draft is enacted, we can say that this helped to end the war.

but how are the people going to stop the military industrial complex? The only way that would happen is if people quit working for the defense industry. And that won't happen. People need jobs, even if their job destroys America.

I couldn't work in that industry right now. I have on occasion, but my conscious wouldn't allow it at this time. The people who do stay in it, seem to me to suffer some weird mental compartmentalization. Especially some guys I met a while back that don't believe in the wars, but design missiles.

I hate seeing the USA go down the toilet. Especially since I'm a part of it, and looking up at the spinning lid. But there is nothing we can do except watch this disaster run it's course.

Welcome! it drives me crazy! We know the cold shoulder does not work. We also know If you are not around to talk and see you have no idea what is going on. No one is saying compromise or appease, talk!
In yesterdays comments someone pointed out that Bush uses the beehive policy as he said. That is pretty screwed up. He says attack the nest before the bees get you. Leave the friggen bees alone! The guy is an idiot!Man use smoke and calm them down, bees what an idiot!

I call it lying and as you know lying is the new truth! Lie long and loud enough and you will believe it is the truth! I agree that McCain is gullible and easily manipulated. If you don't like his stand he will like Bush say something you want to hear but do the same damn thing.
I was listening to Obama after I posted this talk about McCain on Cuba and in the past mcCain said the same damn thing. I just can't stand it! We are in serious trouble and McCain wants to continue us in the same direction. I really want to watch a one on one between McCain and Obama because as long as Obama doesn't let him get away with his ignorant rhetoric and throws it in his face he is going to make him look like the idiot he is and hang him out to dry!

Hagel has that right. Without discourse, there can be no path to peace. Also, his comment about raising the the level of discourse is very telling. Perhaps the real Republicans will jump ship and form a party.

I agree with you! it makes me sick that they paint meeting with to appeasement. Hagel is right! You have to at least talk unless you just want war and that is Bush's goal. Thanks for chiming in diva. I just hope others join Hager. I am listening to two face McCain right now putting Obama down for shifting his opinion on Cuba and he did the same damn thing. I hate the Damn lies and hypocrisy!

Dear Patriot who is anything but average, I have reposted a piece I wrote a while ago about the Maverick. Your comments have been left in place on the original post, so don't be surprised. It was your comments that put the real information into the piece, in which I mostly asked questions. I'm am slightly depressed and sad and lazy, so that is the reason for the re-posting.

I'm trying to learn to link and I can't quite get it. That was the reason for the misplaced quasi link to a Wiki bit on Appalachia, which actually should have been linked to the piece on Kentucky and Hillary's "big win," with voters who will vote for McCain anyway.

Now you have me laughing. First don't let any of this bother you just relax. Things will be different but we're okay.
I have to laugh now i understand Appalachia. I thought I was missing something! Trust me this is all new to me and some here have helped me. Linking looked so difficult to me I went around it until I couldn't get away with it any more. I can tell you how to do it now. You'd be amazed how simple it is.
I am always learning! It's amazing what you can do. I do everything the hard way until someone says why don't you do this. You'll be surprised. Just ask anyone will help you. These are good people here!

You talk to me whenever you feel the need. Take a break from this and relax if you need to. It will still be here. Don't let it bother you it is worthless!

McCain in all his senility forgets in 2000 he called for normalization with Cuba and to talk directly with Castro.

McCain will prostitute any group of people for a vote and a slander.

Hagel is a phony who once supported Bush's war, then changed his mind but is still pure Repug in every other sense.

Cuba should be praised as our best friend. Well over a half century, and they have not asked us for one thin dime. Zilch - Nada -Zero. Name one other country that can say that.

I know McCain flip flopped on Cuba as he does with everything when he finds out it will lose him votes. I am wondering about Bush letting Cubans have cell phones, what is that really about?
As for Hagel I hope his voice against McCain is worth something and hopefully start a groundswell against him and his lying mouth!

Zagunda (coming to America) Ha! I happen to agree with you and could never fathom the fixation on Cuba?

I don't know much politically about Hagel but the few times I have seen him he impressed me. The only problem is, he is in the wrong party. I agree with him. I wonder if senility has any thing to do with McCains switching his stands on every issue. LOL

jmsjoin said...

Hi Minnesota!
How are your vaca plans anyway? I like Hagel too! I hope he starts a groundswell. I agree with both of you.
I firmly believe that Vietnam or whatever, McCain's mind is shot! He makes jokes about his age so people will think light of it and he throws his 96 year old Mother out there as often as he can to make people think he will be around a long time but I doubt it!
As for switching stands, that is not senility just him. If you do not like what he says he will say what you want to hear but like Bush change nothing. Getting elected is jis only concern!

Have you heard? Israel is engaged in talks with Syria. Or in Bush speak, the Jews are appeasing Hitler.

Turkey is acting as their mediator. For some reason they didn't invite Bush to help them with their appeasement efforts.

jmsjoin said...

You're funny! I heard that this morning but didn't look at the article as i wouldn't expect anything out of it even remotely. I wish someone of consequence would question Bush about this appeasement and see what he says.
I would like to See Israel talk to Hamas or even Iran just to lay it out on the table. Put up os shut up! You can then air what you were told and where you stand acting accordingly.
Going through the air right now Rove was subpoened over the attorney firings. He will ignore it or lie!

I keep trying to tell people, McCain't's problem is NOT senility. Blame it on the Communists. When in the Hanoi Hilton, the Viet Cong used earwigs on him. Although they came out the other side, it was discovered that one of them had been pregnant.;)

jmsjoin said...

Brother
I have to agree with you. The HH did permanent damage to this fool. I remember Stockwell running for Veep. The poor guy should not have been in that position just because he was a POW. It doesn't make his right for the job at the time.
So is the case with McDinkWad! You make me laugh with those earwigs. Is their any truth to that?

Unknown said...

"You make me laugh with those earwigs. Is their any truth to that?"

That's just the latent Republican coming out of me. If we repeat it enough times, we can consider it true. ;)

McDinkWad...... Now THAT'S funny.

jmsjoin said...

Brother
Okay but I have heard in the past of earwigs being used true or not I don't know! After yesterdays exchange between Obama and McCain over the military vote McDinkweed didn't vote on and him telling Obama he will not be criticized by a non server, I was going to discuss that and all the rest of BS going on with McCain right now to create a righteous facade but I have to look around first!
