Tuesday's crash was not a Blip, Last week was not a slump, The Second and Greatest Depression is right around the corner per experts!
Many of you at kos know that I have been saying since I joined kos that despite what we have been told by Bush that this is a great economy, this was never a great economy. Rather it has routinely been massaged to give the illusion of prosperity.
It is a Bush war economy and as such those that can afford it were able to benefit from the stockmarket. The average American has been slipping steadily under Bush as you know and all the while Bush brags about how great the economy is. This is about to end even for them.
Wenesday I posted that the stockarket was beginning a collapse that was long expected and it was not going to be pretty. There were some who said the 416 point drop on Tuesday was nothing more than a blip and the market would bounce back. As you know , it did slightly, 52 points if I remember correctly and then continued downward for the week.
Stocks slumped Friday, at the end of the worst week on Wall Street in four years, as worries about growth at home and abroad caused investors to stage a mass exodus. Technology and commodity companies were especially hard-hit, but nearly all stocks in the Dow were down by Friday's close. The major gauges have fallen for three of the last four sessions. For the week, the Dow lost 4.2 percent and saw its worst decline on a percentage basis since the end of March 2003.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/02/mark...
To me this can at this point hardly be called a slump let alone a recession or the beginning of a Depression. As we all know, we have enjoyed recently unprecedented increases in Stock and home valuess. To me it was shored up artificially with purposeful undeserved rosy pictures painted. I am listening to Bernanke paint the same rosy picture Greenspan did and only for Bush's purposes.
It only makes sense that the unprecedented increases would be ultimately be followed by unprecedented decreases and lultimately losses. There is only one way to avoid that which some analyst's say will happen and that is a continuation of the slide.Last week I posted on the expected 2nd Greatest Depression.
The Second and Greatest Depression is right around the Corner. This is stunning!
The other day as we listened to Bush's lies about wanting to fix Health Care I caught on the news that pretty soon healthcare will consume $1 of every $5 you spend. That is mind boggling in itself. Knowing he does nothing to help the average American or our America is sobering enough. That ass hole constantly lies and covers up all reality!
He brags every friggen day how great his economy is while we are left dumbfounded. People in staggering numbers are losing their homes, ending up on the street, going hungry, unable to receive or afford even basic healthcare, or even satisfy life's basic needs. this is happening in America and I find it overwhelming. Why? In America?
Then I was sent this staggering information. Iposted it Wednesday but in light of reaffirmation of my concerns I thought it was wall worth another read.
The Second Great Depression By Mike Whitney" The US economy is in danger of a recession that will prove unusually long and severe. By any measure it is in far worse shape than in 2001-02 and the unraveling of the housing bubble is clearly at hand. It seems that the continuous buoyancy of the financial markets is again deluding many people about the gravity of the economic situation. 02/21/07 This week’s data on the sagging real estate market leaves no doubt that the housing bubble is quickly crashing to earth and that hard times are on the way.
There’s no doubt now, that Fed chairman Alan Greenspan’s plan to pump zillions of dollars into the system via "low interest rates" has created the biggest monster-bubble of all time and set the stage for a deep economic retrenchment. Greenspan’s inflationary policies were designed to expand the "wealth gap" and create greater economic polarization between the classes. By the time the housing bubble deflates, millions of working class Americans will be left to pay off loans that are considerably higher than the current value of their home. This will inevitably create deeper societal divisions and, very likely, a permanent underclass of mortgage-slaves. A shrewd economist and student of history like Greenspan knew exactly what the consequences of his low interest rates would be. The trap was set to lure in unsuspecting borrowers.
In real terms, the economy is already in recession. The growth numbers are regularly massaged by the Commerce Department to put a smiley face on an under performing economy. Industrial output continues to flag (In January it was down by another .5%) while millions of good paying factory jobs are being air-mailed to China where labor is a mere fraction of the cost in the USA. Also, automobile inventories are up while factory production is in free fall.
Please read the entire report. It is very sobering and the first honest appraisal I have ever seen as to our dire Bush hidden financial future. In closing Mike say's Greenspan has led us sheep-like to the same precipice as the great depression. The economic dilemma we're facing could have been avoided if the expansion of personal credit had been curtailed by prudent monetary policy at the Federal Reserve and if wealth was more evenly distributed as it was in the ‘60's and ‘70's. But that’s not the case; so we're headed for hard times. http://anaverageamericanpatriot.blog...

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development warns all 17 countries in the European Union could face depression: That is old news!
Europe's crisis risks 'deep depression' : EUROPE reeled today from warnings it faces "deep depression" if the euro zone collapses and that every EU nation's credit rating could be hit without firm action to stop the debt crisis.
An updated growth report from the OECD said the euro zone debt crisis was now just one step away from plunging advanced economies into an abyss of recession and could trigger waves of bankruptcies and wealth destruction.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said the euro crisis remained “a key risk to the world economy.” The Paris-based research group sharply cut its forecasts for wealthy Western countries and cautioned that growth in Europe could come to a standstill. The credit agency warning that the problems may lead multiple countries to default on their debts or exit the euro, which would threaten the credit standing of all 17 countries in the currency union.
Gov't: US not responsible for Europe's debt woes: Obama and European leaders are huddling in Washington amid growing fears over the future of the euro. Obama offered no specifics about how the U.S. could help. Experts say that without drastic action, the euro could be days away from collapsing, a scenario that could cause more financial damage to the American economy. Obama says Europe's economy is very important to the U.S. and if Europe's economy contracts, it would be more difficult to create jobs at home.
Europe's debt crisis echoed in Washington: Europe's deepening debt crisis is echoed in the United States by the inability of President Obama and Congress to strike a bipartisan deficit deal. On both sides of the Atlantic, leaders are having a hard time making tough, unpopular decisions. And things come together only at the very last minute, if at all, while the global economy hangs in the balance.
What happens in Europe is important to Americans. It has already taken an economic toll on U.S. exporters — from reduced consumer demand in Europe for their products and from a rising dollar against the euro. U.S. stock markets have been battered for months as the crisis spread from Greece to other more-solvent economies, including Italy and Spain, and even taking a toll on Germany's ability to sell its bonds.
China’s economy has a reputation for being strong and prosperous, but according to a well-known Chinese television personality the country’s Gross Domestic Product is going in reverse.Larry Lang, chair professor of Finance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said in a lecture that he didn’t think was being recorded that the Chinese regime is in a serious economic crisis—on the brink of bankruptcy. In his memorable formulation: every province in China is Greece.
The restrictions Lang placed on the Oct. 22 speech in Shenyang City, in northern China’s Liaoning Province, included no audio or video recording, and no media. He can be heard saying that people should not post his speech online, or “everyone will look bad,” in the audio that is now on Youtube.
Global leaders gather in SKorea amid financial jitters for world’s premier aid forum: The rich countries that traditionally give aid are questioning how much they should spend amid tough domestic budget fights and fears that a European financial crisis could spread. Taxpayers are suspicious that money is being wasted on corrupt foreign governments. Aid groups, meanwhile, worry that donors will retreat from crucial programs for those living in crushing poverty.
There is enough here to write a book but I will try to be as brief as possible. I have been warning for years as to the second Greatest Depression, that it was created on purpose and its timing was no coincidence. I went back to February 2007 to find the first of dozens of attempts to wake up thee world to no avail. The Second and Greatest Depression is right around the Corner. This is sad, stunning, and true!
I have always said that we cover the truth years ahead of main stream media and by the time they make an issue of an existing or coming problem it is already too late to prevent. This is just one example: Years ago many countries wished for the economic demise of the United States. Despite what most are now witnessing some to their discredit still are.
Many around the world are finding out now that if the US goes down they go down too. I firmly believe the US created this world wide problem once again and as in the Great Depression it was the Republicans who caused it. That said, the world is finding out the hard way that today our futures are intertwined more than ever barring a third and world wide war.
I saw all attempts at staving of the recession or depression as futile and just aiding in the bankrupting of America. I understand the Fed has already secretly bailed out some European banks to the tune of$trillions and can still bail out European Nations as they see fit which is a scary thought to me.Once again the thought of who decides the bail out and why worries me.
You read the link above, even China is not exempt from the economic pain which will get much worse. The entire world will be embroiled. While I believe during the first depression FDR's measures went a long way in mending our woes, it was WW2 that fixed all. I pray that it is not going to take a WW3 to solve the problem this time. It concerns me greatly that I see that mentality and that it is coming.

The Second and Greatest Depression is right around the Corner. This is stunning, I was still trying to Recover hours after first hearing this but became resolved to it 4 years ago!
As we listened to Bush's lies about wanting to fix Health Care I caught on the news that pretty soon health care will consume $1 of every $5 you spend and look where we are today. The second Great Depression is well on its way and this bail out will only put it off. If McCain can not be stolen in Executive order # 51 will be!

Executive order #51 is a terrible power in Bush or McCain's hands!
You may remember I have done numerous stories on this rapidly developing perfect storm with the rapid slide into Forever war instigated by Bush as the world militarizes and unites to take on Bush and his insistance of dominating the world and having his way. For years trying to wake up every senator, Congressman, media outlet, anyone that would listen that everything Bush has done to worsen the plight of the middle class and widen the gap between the have's and have nots has been done to create Bush's idea of a new societal order. He has been following from day one what I know as the Russian Doctrine of Destruction first used by Russia in the 1860s It is on my website Divide and Conquer! You must create disorder so you can come to the rescue with your new order to replace it. Bush is doing it here and around the world or so he thinks!
You see what he is doing around the world instigating war while the country is occupied with the financial collapse of America that was set up under his guise! This entire mess makes him look inept which he is but all of it has been done on purpose with the end goal of emplacing Executive order #51 if this 3rd election can not be stolen for McCain. The foundation for this to happen is increasingly being set and I am very concerned for our future. This perfect manufactured storm comes closer to fruition every day. Wachovia is now being absorbed and that blows me away. This bailout will do nothing but further the Bankrupting of America and pushing back our Demise to this fall or certainly before January 20th when Bush will be forced to invoke Executive order # 51. I have posted numerous times on this still developing 2nd greatest Depression. just remember what party was at the helm then and that it took war to get us out because what goes aroung comes around and what is preparing to happen will dwarf WW2 and the Great depression combined because we are in a purposely weakoned state and it is all happening at the same time!
While Greenspan warns this collapse could be worse than the depression and Bush warns of the severe damage it could cause the country if the bail out is not passed I just want to remind you of what an expert Michael Whitnry wrote explaining this set up 20 months ago:
Greenspan successfully piloted the nation into virtual insolvency. In fact, the parallels between our present situation and the period preceding the Great Depression are striking. Just as massive debt was accumulating in the market from the purchase of stocks "on margin", so too, mortgage debt between 2000 and 2006 soared from $4.8 trillion to $9.5 trillion. In both cases the "wealth effect" spawned a spending spree which looked like growth but was really the steady, insidious expansion of debt which generated economic activity. In both periods wages were either flat or declining and the gap between rich and working class was growing more extreme by the year. As Paul Alexander Gusmorino said in his article, "Main Causes of the Great Depression": "Many factors played a role in bringing about the depression; however, the main cause for the Great Depression was the combination of the greatly unequal distribution of wealth throughout the 1920's, and the extensive stock market speculation that took place during the latter part that same decade".
The same factors are at work today except that the speculation is in real estate rather than stocks. Just as in the 1920's the equity bubble was not created by wages keeping pace with productivity (the healthy formula for growth) but by the expansion of personal debt. Also, one could buy stocks without the money to purchase them, just as one can buy a $600,000 or $700,000 house today with zero-down and no monthly payment on the principle for years to come. The current account deficit ($800 billion) could also weigh heavily in any economic shake-up that may be forthcoming. Bob Chapman of The International Forecaster made this shocking calculation about America's out-of-control trade deficit: "US debt was up 10.1% to $4.085 trillion and accounts for 58.8% of all the credit issued globally last year. That means the US expanded credit at a much faster rate than the economy grew. This was borrowing to maintain a higher standard of living and attempt to pay for it tomorrow." Think about that; the US sucked up nearly 60% of ALL GLOBAL CREDIT in one year alone. That is truly astonishing.
There are many similarities between the pre-Depression era and our own. Paul Alexander Gusmorino says: "The Great Depression was the worst economic slump ever in U.S. history, and one which spread to virtually all of the industrialized world. The depression began in late 1929 and lasted for about a decade....The excessive speculation in the late 1920's kept the stock market artificially high, but eventually lead to large market crashes. These market crashes, combined with the misdistribution of wealth, caused the American economy to capsize. "(The income disparity) between the rich and the middle class grew throughout the 1920's. While the disposable income per capita rose 9% from 1920 to 1929, those with income within the top 1% enjoyed a stupendous 75% increase in per capita disposable incomeA major reason for this large and growing gap between the rich and the working-class people was the increased manufacturing output throughout this period. From 1923-1929 the average output per worker increased 32% in manufacturing8. During that same period of time average wages for manufacturing jobs increased only 8% (This ultimately causes a decrease in demand and leads to growth in credit spending)
The federal government also contributed to the growing gap between the rich and middle-class. Calvin Coolidge's (pro business) administration passed the Revenue Act of 1926, which reduced federal income and inheritance taxes dramatically(At the same time) the Supreme Court ruled minimum-wage legislation unconstitutional. On Monday October 21, 1929, the over-valued stock market began its downward plunge. It managed a brief mid-week comeback, but 7 days later on Black Tuesday it plummeted again; 16 million shares were dumped and there were no buyers. The game was over. Confidence evaporated overnight. People stopped buying on credit, the bubble-economy collapsed, and the mighty locomotive for growth, the American consumer, hobbled into the Great Depression. Tariffs were thrown up, foreigners stopped buying American goods; banks closed, business went bust, and unemployment skyrocketed. Tens years later the country was still reeling from the implosion. Now, 77 years later, Greenspan has led us sheep-like to the same precipice. The economic dilemma we're facing could have been avoided if the expansion of personal credit had been curtailed by prudent monetary policy at the Federal Reserve and if wealth was more evenly distributed as it was in the '60s and '70s. But that's not the case; so we're headed for hard times. Mike Whitney the second Great Depression
McCain is taking a hit for his Politicizing of Bush's created crisis
McCain is not the one to deal with this Bush created crisis Obama is. McCain is the one needed to continue this new order crisis here and around the world. Knowing that and that the President now has too much abusive power that will never be allowed in in Democrats hands i am increasingly concerned as the Bush created crises and perfect manufactured storm come to a head perfectly for a third stolen election Implementation of Executive order #51.
I reiterate Executive order #51 is a terrible power in Bush or McCain's hands!

President Obama looks ahead but now is time to look back first!

With the passing of his stimulus bill the work now begins but first a look back at the history we are following!
Investors Look to Obama Mortgage Plan
Obama Looks to Next Steps in Recovery Plan
Time for a timeout on programs
Stimulus Bill Rekindles New Deal Debate
The First 100 Days: Franklin Roosevelt Pioneered the 100-Day Concept
Use Stimulus Funds Wisely This makes me think of so many parallels! We keep hearing daily of comparisons to President Lincoln and now we keep hearing also comparisons to President Roosevelt in 1932! Being compared to two of the best in two of our most trying times makes me think that superstition works in threes. Also that President Obama constantly says no one wants to be President during good times and I do disagree with him.
However he is right that you want to be President during trying times as you can accomplish much! With the two Presidents he is most often compared too having proven that true I have to hope Obama proves things happen in threes and also succeeds. First though he must beat down the divisive disinformation Republican Juggernaut. Then there are so many comparisons to FDR and 1932 that President Obama would be wise to step back regroup and look at the lessons learned by President Roosevelt.
As usual there are two schools of thought and neither one is right in itself, the two are part of the whole"the new deal and WW2". Once again a meld of the two I am afraid is what worked to put an end to the Great Depression. The right wants to argue that the new deal did not work but stop the childish games, it did! President Obama rightly said he inherited the most dire economic crisis since the Great Depression and pundits of the right say that is bunk. I am sick of the damn political games. Make believe the country and the world matters not your party. This is no damn picnic!
In reality this is much worse because of the time in our and the planets life cycle this is occurring. Because of unprecedented food supplies and prosperity the worlds population has grown to bursting. In good times the prosperous of the planet were strapped and unable to feed the needy of the world. The poor are the first ones to feel the strain of economic stress and they are starving in greater numbers than ever and it will get much worse.
At the current time here in the United States millions have lost their homes and their jobs but as of yet are still able to eat though sometimes with help. It is up to Obama to learn the lessons of the Great Depression and do this right before we suffer like the worlds poor. What stinks is to succeed we must first fight the lying right and hope the masses realize once again they are the enemies to our successful move into the future!
First another reminder that it was the Republicans that were in power the last time we had a crisis like this and it was the Democrats that fixed it but enough of that! I keep hearing from the right the new deal did not work and that WW2 is what put an end to the Great Depression. That is only half true! W e know of course that President Obama is modeling his economic recovery plan after FDR's New Deal and I think he has the right idea putting Americans back to work and rebuilding our infrastructure that was allowed to fail under Bush.
The new Deal did work! Jobs climbed steadily until they relapsed in 1937. That was only normal. Just look at something you may not understand but can comprehend and that is the stock market. It may be obvious which way it is going to go but it ebbs and flows until it follows the direction it is going. The same with FDR's new deal and it will be the same with Obama's new deal. It is not going to right over night and it is not going to just get better without any corrections.
During the great depression there were ebbs and flows but the new deal did work, it did rebuild the country and it did put people back to work just like Obama's plan will pork and all if the right lets it. With that said, the other school of thought that WW2 is what got us out of the depression, yes it brought it to an absolute end and allowed us three decades of prosperity before we had a relapse in the 70s. This is a little more than a relapse. This is the second greatest depression and we have to hope President Obama is allowed to work his magic as I do not want to see this Republican mess too to have to depend on a war, WW3 to bring the worlds economic crisis to rest!!

2007 Michael Whitney 2nd Great Depression: The Coming Economic Hell For American Families is already here
I got this supposed breaking news and I hate to tell them but they are 4 years too late and America's hell is here! The Coming Economic Hell For American Families It has been here for years!
That is mind boggling in itself. Knowing he did nothing to help the average American or our America is sobering enough. That Idiot constantly lied and covered up all reality!
He bragged every day how great his economy is while we were left dumbfounded. People in staggering numbers are still losing their homes, ending up on the street, going hungry, unable to receive or afford even basic health care, or even satisfy life's basic needs. this is happening in America and I find it overwhelming. Why? In America?
Then four years ago I was sent this staggering information and I was 7 hours later just composing myself to be able to put this together.
Mike Whitney The second Great Depression 2007
* I will bet President Obama gets credit for this Bush created disaster too

Longest Bull Run in 80 Years, remember who was in Charge, what Happened then and what's Forecast Today!
This is not a Blip as the so called experts say. This is a long overdue major "correction" I discussed it after april's "correction" and most just do not seem to realize the artificiality or our over inflated financial system or how bad this too is going to get. The second Greatest Depression is right around the corner! Please read on. I think you will agree!
Of course , we know as the U'S. goes so goes the rest of the world. Yesterday In the U.S., the Dow Jones -- which shed 311 points on Thursday -- slipped further in early trading today. Right now it is down another 80 mpoints. In Europe, where markets suffered their worst losses in five months on Thursday, the FTSEurofirst 300 index closed down 0.5 percent -- and down 5 percent for the week -- having earlier showed signs of a recovery amid robust corporate results led by automaker Volkswagen.
London's FTSE 100 closed down 0.6 percent at 6,215.2 -- its lowest close since March -- while Paris' CAC slipped 0.55 percent to 5,643.96 and Germany's was down 0.76 percent at 7,451.68. There were further losses in Asia where Tokyo's Nikkei shed 2.7 percent to slump to its lowest level since May despite strong results from electronics manufacturer Sony, which posted trebled first quarter profits.
South Korea's benchmark KOSPI was down 2.5 percent, Hong Kong fell 2.7 percent and Australia slipped 2.8 percent, while MSCI's index of Asia Pacific stocks excluding Japan fell 3.4 percent at the end of a week in which it had posted record highs.Friday's volatility was triggered by Thursday's worldwide losses, culminating in the Dow Jones' second-biggest point loss of the year.

The so called experts are doing their best to keep this artificial Bull market going saying this is no big deal and the economy is getting better . This is just a minor correction and our economy will keep improving. Bush is also talking it up, doing his share to keep up this facade of Sucess continue until he gets out of office and the truth is found out and the market and the economy crashes so he can blame it on Democrats.
This is not a blip, this is not a minor correction. The market is correcting and it is long overdue. as we all know, the stock market ebbs and flows until it settles onto which direction it is going. It has been going up and down but when this settles in, it is going to be a very big downward correction. I was looking at my past writings on this and this is so perfect as to what is happening right now I really hope you read this and see who was at the helm the last time this happened 80 years ago. Good or bad give credit where due!
The Dow industrials has been increasing to ridiculous artificially inflated highs in a streak that matched an 80-year-old record on Wall Street. This will all crash down on us when the truth of Bush's control and lies come to light.
"The market improvement we've seen over the last few months is a result of higher-than-expected corporate profits," said Richard Hoyt, portfolio manager at KDV Wealth Management. What a surprise huh? How could you expect anything else in this pro industry, pro corporate, anti average American, environment Bush has created today?
http://money.cnn.com/...
Bush has had, micro managed every facet of life today, from the so called war on terror, to those that we call heroes such as Jessica Lynch, to the reasons behind 9/11 and the artificial strength of our economy. This is a Bush created facade of a great economy and only for those able to partake while the elderly and needy have suffered exponentially, so he can follow his new order.
With that said, it is very dangerous that investors are looking beyond any short-term questions about the strength of the economy and focusing on longer-term expectations. You cannot ignore the reality of Bush putting off Trillions in Debt off until he is out of office. You cannot ignore the reality of increasing food stamp use, prohibitive health care costs to the most needy, the loss of core jobs, and the real economy Bush has created. It is another facade!
Knowing that life today is a false creation of Bush's in every respect I ask you to take a step back and remember that amidst all the bragging about this great economy and this being the longest Bull run in 80 years, the reality average Americans face, who was in control 80 years ago and what happened. Remember, Republican Calvin Coolidge was President from 1923 to 1929 and Republican Herbert Hoover took over in March of 1929. I realize we now have a system in place so there will never be a repeat of the Stock Market Crash of 1929.
However, as Bush brags every friggen day how great his economy is while we are left dumbfounded. People in staggering numbers are losing their homes, ending up on the street, going hungry, unable to receive or afford even basic healthcare, or even satisfy life's basic needs. This is happening in America and I find it overwhelming. Why? In America? When will this facade crash?
I am reminded of "The Second Great Depression By Mike Whitney" He points out The US economy is in danger of a recession that will prove unusually long and severe. By the time the housing bubble deflates, millions of working class Americans will be left to pay off loans that are considerably higher than the current value of their home. This will inevitably create deeper societal divisions and, very likely, a permanent underclass of mortgage-slaves. With the staggering increase of foreclosures you see just the beginning of Bush's "created" reality.
I have warned many times of the upcoming stock market crash now I am prepared to give a number! Dow 10,000!

It was a month ago that the Dow hit 14,000 and many people were elated. As I have been saying for years that Bush has created a false artificial, inflated economy I was not happy to see it go up like that knowing that it was bound to crash big time. For quite a while now I have been expecting reality t catch up with the market as to the house of cards Bush has built. At the link are half a dozen related stories including the predicted crash and why titled The Second Greatest Depression. I asked you to look back at the Crash of 1929, look at the conditions that prevailed, and look what Party was in office. That was a another very telling story in relation to what is happening today and what is going to happen. I recommend looking at the saecond greatest Depression and look at what exactly Greenspan and Bernanke have been up to.

The market is telling officialdom, and specifically Bernanke, that like in the lead up to the 1929 stock market crash (which was 90%), the true health of the economy is not being interpreted correctly, and that official policy is not sufficiently accommodative. As alluded to during the course of the week, this misread and mishandling of the situation has a great deal to do with the stubborn resilience of

This is why the Fed is now suggesting that only a calamity will cause them to soften official policy, because they must get prices under control soon if traditional Presidential Cycle policy considerations are to be managed successfully. this is a calamity but they will not stop this one either.
What's more, like Greenspan, Bernanke is a gradualist, but he is a rearview mirror gradualist, meaning he actually manages official policy based on history. Again, like the '29 experience, this is causing a misread of measures currently needed to stave off a real deflation risk, which is why prices are falling in spite of supportive price constraints . In a nutshell, people are panicking, and for this reason Monday could be very interesting. http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/...
Bernanke would be wise to remember who has been at the helm during this entire facade of a build up and that absolutely nothing under Bush is as it seems. He should remember Greenspan's and his role in artificially alowing the market to inflate. I have said it more than a few times but the real depth of this crash will not be felt until the Republicans are hopefully gone in 2008 and the depth of Bush's deceit and lies are know or at least begin to come out.
The stock market will not go all the way back to 9,00 but maybe it should. However I do purely as a common sensed observer of what Bush has been doing and the nonsensical activity of the stock market since Bush has been at the helm fully expect to see the stock market settle around Dow 10,000 in the not too distant future. Certainly shortly after a Democrat is elected if we even have an election as I fully expect Bush to cancel elections and declare martial order.
If that is the case the Dow will definitely go below 10,000 if not lower. Right now down 179 it is at 12692 give or take.

Bernanke says crisis could be over in a year! Yeah get a grip! This is still just beginning!

Obama to Congress we will rebuild we will recover!
Bernanke says crisis could be over in a year! Yeah get a grip!
Bernanke Warns Home Prices Could Fall Too Far
January existing home sales fall by 5.3 percent to lowest level in nearly 12 years
Bernanke says some markets have eased, 2010 could be a rebuilding year Just what markets are those and rebuilding what?
Wall street tumbles to new low not seen since 1997 Today it continues to get much worse!
This is not going to start getting better in a year! Yeah take two aspirins and call me in the morning! First a little reiteration: Anyway knowing what is happening right now with the coming of the second Great Depression and that it is no surprise but a culmination of hard work by Ronald Reagan and George Bush my thought process once again began taking a longer twisted road Reagan, Bush, Legacy, Security, choking Debt, security? We are more secure? I am afraid you are just beginning to find out how "secure" you are! So I can get off on another tangent and finish this, this could be very long so I did a query of past stories on the subject and it was overwhelming! I decided that I would supply the link and allow you to surf and just look at the titles. There are many stories and links in The Bankrupting of America
Okay speaking of Bankrupting America, keeping us "safe", and the dire financial situation the Republican's worked hard for and is just beginning to come to fruition, I have to go back to a parallel story line before I can go forward. We are today just starting to "bask" in the real rewards of Reagan and Bush's Presidency.First I am reminded that yesterday I saw a list of likely suspects to blame our financial disaster on. Greenspan was on it and should be. However I dismissed the list as bunk when Bill Clinton was number 13 on the list and ahead of Greenspan. Reagan was not on it nor was Bush who Is solely responsible not for the debt but for the collapse and he should have been number one on the list!
* Allow me a little Debt and Republican "success" history! It was President Reagan's "success" in keeping us "safe" that made it necessary for us to start the "Debt Clock" as due to Reagan's success our debt was climbing so fast a clock keeping track of its rapidly changing total was a necessity! Due to Bush's "success" last year the Debt clock had to be refitted as it could only handle a $9 trillion figure. it was refitted to handle $10 trillion. It is now moving so rapidly it makes your head spin.
Okay let me step back! Most know Bush all by himself had created more debt than every single President of the United States combined. What is never spoken and most do not know is that due to their "success" Three Republican President's are responsible for 74% of the country's debt, Reagan, Daddy Bush, and little Bush, At least until our current situation. I was just researching our debt and noticed so called experts say the true cost of the stimulus Bill is $3.27 trillion. $10.6 trillion is prior worthless stimulus packages, $2 trillion for Treasury Secretary Geithner, The auto Industry wants more, States are starting to fail.
That reminds me of something I say too often now. Of course I am talking about California and you know the saying, as California goes so goes the Nation. We are in serious trouble the hell with what is developing on the Afghan Pakistan Border. All these bailouts are worthless and this mess is just beginning. We will choke our kids with their debt! I ask you is that "success"? Is that security? That is being kept secure by Republican's? We can't afford any more security! You can see their true legacy the Bankrupting of America and Bush with Greenspan's guidance set this up and the second Great Depression is just taking shape. It is up to you to relax and be prepared. There will be no staving this off, that is just reality!
At a bare minimum this mess has been 25 years in the making! Jindal continuing to blame it on The Democrats is asinine. That childish idiocy has to stop or we are screwed. President Obama says we will come back better than ever, stronger than before. I don't see it unless we are talking smaller and more stream lined but better. However bernanke saying 2010 could be a rebuilding year is also asinine! This second Greatest Depression is still just beginning and has yet to hit bottom.
We can do this but we must stop being unrealistic. This is far from the bottom and will get much worse! We can do this but it is unrealistic to think of us being better than before at least not the way many of us think of it! How bad can the housing market get? How bad will the economy get? How bad the credit market? How bad the domestic violence? The job market? With home values in the cellar and getting worse looking for city, county, State tax bases to hit critical lows causing all States to declare Bankruptcy and look for Bailouts. The right is trying to blame this on Democrats but it is their fault and we may get out of it but not in a year or two!

2009 Financial Collapse! The 8th largest economy in the world is Bankrupt and this is just beginning!

Of course Republicans are giddy over this but remember under Reagan unemployment was 10.8% right now it is at 9.6%. They keep saying we are in a recovery but no way. States are collapsing and it took Bush 8 years to this but I am afraid this is not a recovery. We are thanks to Bush and Greenspan just putting of the inevitable. Remember the economy collapsed on Bush's watch. What most do not realize is it was done on purpose. Bush did not just turn a blind eye to what was happening on wall street he instigated it and Greenspan was his tool. Michael Whitney's second Great Depression
Obama: Job figures sobering, but show recession is slowing
US sheds 2 million jobs since Obama took office
46 Of 50 States Could File Bankruptcy In 2009-2010 | PUPPETGOV
The economic collapse of 2009, this is all proving true and should not be ignored
The situation is critical. We will see higher taxes and much less services across the Nation and this is just because of the collapse of California. New York and Arizona are also in serious trouble. As you read above, 46 of 50 States could file for Bankruptcy in 2009-2010. Cash poor California is now working off of IOU's. IOU's are flying off the shelves. How long can the world's 8th largest economy operate like that?
With 46 of 50 States facing Bankruptcy, Bankruptcy could be coming to a state near you. I have been trying to warn people for years now that this like everything else Bush had his grubby mitts on will be far worse than anything in the past. The economic recovery effort is supposed to be working. We are not losing the 700,000 jobs per month we were when Obama was elected.
Do not be fooled, this is not going to get better before it gets much worse. I saw a Republican propaganda video showing Obama as a Nazi and likening him In contrast to Hitler. It was way over the top and said it was time to rise up against Obama. Republicans are doing their damnedest to make him fail and every time they block him they brag about his failure saying we have to get rid of him quick.
Bush started all this and on purpose while creating his version of a new societal order. The resultant new disorder is just beginning. Since this so called down turn or recession we have lost 6 million jobs and by the end of 2008 1 million homes were foreclosed on and 6 in every 1,000 homes were hit. I wrote about this numerous times but have you ever read Michael Whitney's second Great Depression
* In closing, without a doubt despite all trillions and efforts to curb this what I call the second Greatest Depression is just starting and will not be stopped. Like everything else Bush had his grubby hands on this will dwarf anything the world has seen in the past. Greenspan set this up for Bush and there is no surprise here especially the timing. This is not a recovery and I hope you looked at The economic collapse of 2009, this is all proving true and should not be ignored I am not a believer in any of that but just take a quick read and none of it can be denied!

Obama again warns of Disaster but it was too late to avert years ago!

Jobless claims at 626000 for the month of January break another record
Obama warns of need for stimulus bill right away
President Obama Warns stimulus package must be passed right away or we may plunge into a long lasting recession that may be irreversible. Take out the damn pork then and pass the Bill though it will not stop this still just developing Greenspan created financial disaster. That is not fear mongering on President Obama's part. Nor is it fear mongering on my part to say this is just beginning and will get a lot worse as this the second Greatest Depression continues! Wait until every city and every State declares Bankruptcy and asks for Bailouts!
All the way back in November we had the Biggest one-month job loss in U.S. since 1974 with 533,000 lost!
Then we lost 524,000 in December making this the worst year for employment since 1945 with Total 2008 job loss: 2.6 million
Then we heard there were Fears of a million layoffs a month in corporate America Business ...
* I told you Obama's dire warning of losing up to a million jobs per month if his stimulus package was not passed will happen anyway and it gets closer every month! That was not fear mongering just reality! Now Obama is warning of a prolonged recession we may not recover from if his package is not passed. That too is not fear mongering just reality and fact!
Centrists in Senate Push to Cut Billions From Stimulus
Cut the friggen pork and pass the damn Bill though it will not stop what is just beginning! Knowing this it still bothers the hell out of me that these childish Politicians some call our leaders just continue to play their usual childish games while the country goes down the tubes. They really do not care and it is sick!
It was a long ago foregone conclusion! This was written two years ago and The Second Great Depression set up by Greenspan was a given regardless of all these bailouts. at this rate the 10% unemployment Obama warned about is going to happen in about 6 months regardless!
They will do nothing but stave off the inevitable and speed up the bankrupting of America also set in motion by Bush. I have written it numerous times but I just want you to remember the great Depression and a couple parallel facts with this one!
** Remember it was the Republicans at the helm the last time this happened and while FDR's New Deal did a lot to bring us back and Obama wants to replicate it and it is necessary that it took WW2 to get us out of it!
**** It is important to remember as I have written about this too, too many times but Bush has laid the foundation not only for the bankrupting of America but WW3 to get us out of it or so they think!

Today's examples of self serving idiocy: Going through the news the so called experts make me laugh, they just do not get it! They don't care!
Engage!
I'm just going to scratch the surface because you can write a book on it in fact several and I have. However those that capitalize from what we call life today do not care that they just do not get it!
Report says Saddam's Iraq and Al Qaeda not linked No kidding we know that. Somehow McCain is getting away running for office being wrong on this doesn't matter. Why the hell did we spend the time and money to find out what we already knew and what doesn't matter? I just don't get it?
Senate rejects earmark moratorium The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly shot down an effort Thursday night to ban "earmark" spending for one year -- quashing an effort backed by all three senators seeking the presidency. personally I don't know how how I feel about them. I guess if it something that a State really needs then it would be acceptable. However McCain says you are by definition of receiving them a dirty bad Politician. But self serving underhanded Lobbyists and Politician's like McCain are okay? I just don't friggen get it?
Bush confident about our failing economy Trying to calm jitters about the economy, President Bush conceded on Friday that the country "obviously is going through a tough time" but expressed confidence about a rebound. In a speech to The Economic Club of New York, Bush said this was not the first time the economy has been rattled and that he is certain that it will ride out its troubles. "These are uncertain times," he said. The president spoke as evidence of an ailing economy piled up. The dollar fell, oil and gold hit record highs, the economy is shedding jobs, retail sales saw a big drop and the effects of a severe credit squeeze linger. Economic worries have replaced the Iraq war as the No. 1 concern of voters in this presidential election year. I wrote about it over a year ago. This is no bump to overcome and this story I wrote more than 2 months ago forecasting world wide violence and recession best describes The Second Greatest Depression
There's only one place left in America that they don't get it says McCain The SOB is smiling while he says that. I hate to tell him. They are all out of touch and none of them care. I just don't get it!
House defies bush on surveillance they don't get it they Don't matter he will veto
Bush wants weaker smog standards Doesn't give a damn!
Clinton apologizes to Black voters Ah Ah!
minister off Obama's campaign Ah Ah!
ferraro forced out Pshaw! They don't get it! We know damn well Racism is alive and well. More so in today's environment than ever but being Politicians they have to hide it!
As the Dow tumbles and Bush bails out Bear Stearns Bernanke says he will help the home owners as bush warns of too much help and vows veto if there is an attempted bailout of speculating wanabe homeowners. Now I don't friggen get it? Meanwhile the chief idiot paints this brain dead, naive, unrealistically upbeat picture!
I hate to say it but another unrealistic endeavor is The unrealistic gun Ban in DC I must admit I am not a big fan of gun ownership primarily because of the style of guns people own and what they do with them. I am afraid right now that it is futile to try to get guns off the street and if the shit hits the fan we may be thankful we have them around. It is a catch 22!
Now let's finish this with Iran and what they naively call "speculation" Hard-line allies of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are ahead in Iran's parliamentary election, partial results suggest. But conservative critics of Mr. Ahmadinejad also appear to be making a strong showing that could undermine his domination of the parliament. Reformists are said to be struggling after large numbers of their candidates were barred from the race. The United States says this means the results were "cooked". NAW!
The Iranian authorities had called for a big turnout to defy the US and other countries they say are Iran's enemies. The election will shape the political map ahead of 2009's presidential poll. President Ahmadinejad flew in from an Islamic summit in Senegal to cast his vote. He said the world had chosen Iran as its "role model and saviour". They are preparing to take on Bush
stunningly knowing what Bush is doing, why, and the negative consequences of it all and that Iran is stacking the Right war wing and military to take on what they too se is in immanent inevitable war with the US there are 6 signs to prove the war is immanent and this so called expert says they are six signs the US is not headed to war with Iran
Last but not least as I always say, Experts don't have a damn clue! The world's anti-terrorism experts met for a conference in Stockholm this week and, as Roger Hardy, the BBC's Islamic Affairs Analyst, found, optimism was in short supply. What struck me most, in three days of debate, was the degree of pessimism about the task at hand. Yes, there has been a learning curve. It is now widely recognized that Muslim hearts and minds matter and that military successes mean little if the battle of ideas is being lost. But there is still a long way to go.
This came home to me when I spoke to an American military man who had helped produce the US Counter-Insurgency Manual. How long did he think the "long war" - as many now call it - would last? It is the kind of question journalists ask, and I did not expect that he would put a number on it. But he did. "Thirty years if we get it right," he said. "A hundred years if we get it wrong." That's not pessimism that's optimistic Realism
I have said it a million times these so called experts don't have a clue! War with Iran was only one of the reasons for attacking Iraq and this total world eruption will make the 100 years war look short. Depressions, wars, they don't get less significant over time they get more pronounced and much worse as time goes by. This will be no exception! Old regional wars were a prelude to WW1. WW1 was a preparation for WW2, and WW2 was a warning if we were stupid enough to allow it to happen, WW3 would be the longest and the worst!

Pat Robertson predicts worldwide violence and recession, yeah? Cavutto says 08 will be about those that want to terrorize, That's right it will all be about Bush!I was going to discuss the arcane Iowa Caucuses and how ridiculous they appear to be and the influence they supposedly have on or next President but something else came up as usual. If you want to take Iowa caucuses 101 please do. The Arcane rules
Now I think Robertson is a crackpot. A year ago Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities would suffer a horrific terrorist attack and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September. Of course we know that never happened. Robertson said God also told him that the U.S. only feigns friendship with Israel and that U.S. policies are pushing Israel toward "national suicide." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,240841,00.html
A year ago I did a story on this not because of what the fear monger said but because of what it would mean to us come elections which are right around the corner. remember just imagine this?
Anyway he is piping up again. Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson predicted Wednesday that 2008 will be a year of violence worldwide and a recession in the United States, followed by a major stock-market crash by 2010. Sharing what he believes God has told him about the year ahead is an annual tradition for Robertson. On Wednesday's "700 Club" broadcast, the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network predicted that evangelism will increase and more people will seek God as the chaos develops. Robertson said, "We will see the presence of angels and we will see an intensification of miracles around the world." Last year, Robertson predicted that a terrorist act, possibly involving a nuclear weapon, would result in mass killing in the United States. Noting that it hadn't come to pass, Robertson said, "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us." yhep prayer saved us
I actually hate to but I have to agree with him on this prediction but this too is compliments of Bush! The growing world violence is obvious and undeniable to an idiot but we have been discussing the coming of the 2nd Greatest depression for a long time now and it will hit when the reality of what Bush has created hits. This is a year old but check out the second great depression by Mike Whitney
That is only part of the reality Bush has set in motion for our and the worlds future. I am just stunned that anyone can deny the major and leading role Bush has played in all this. Then I saw that Cavutto who I can't stand was saying 2008 will be dominated by those trying to terrorize us and the world with terrorists and extremists such as is happening in Algeria, Nigeria and Pakistan and I can't believe again that the real cause of all this crap is not even mentioned.
Listen to this wing nut idiocy! Cavutto: This year, it's all about nuts. Not about candidates for president. Or the guy who is president. Not about tax policies. Or housing policies. Or any policies. If you want to know what will set the tone for the year, my prediction? Those who want to terrorize this year. Don't believe me? Then believe Nigeria, where violent militants attacked two police stations, and took out more than a dozen people. And believe Algeria, where similar extremists took out a police station in a suicide blast, and promised to do more of the same.
The incidental fact that both these countries are OPEC members had oil prices climbing over a hundred bucks a barrel. Just like the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan last week cost our DOW more than 200 points. Because senseless violence makes sensible men sense all is not right with the world. And they get scared. And the more violence they see, the more scared they get. And the more desperate they become. Selling stocks like it's nobody's business. Buying up oil because they're convinced there will be no business. It isn't rational. It just is. And those who are irrational know it. So they kill, and maim, terrorize, and taunt. Not just in one country, but in lots of countries. Leaving some to sensibly wonder whether this senselessness will come to their country. It will. Rattling our numbers, because they have our number. And they know it. My only question? Do we? Cavutto's idiocy
** I don't think they have our number but I know Bush does! All our problems are because off the chief fear monger, the chief war monger, the chief idiot Bush. He is the one who set the standard for stealing elections. He is the one who has destabilized the world. I blame Bush for rising oil prices. I will blame Bush for the stock market crash when reality does hit it. I can't speak about Africa but maybe you can tell me but I blame Bush for the vast majority of the spreading violence around the world. Many countries are paying for supporting the chief war monger as he pursues his new world (dis)order. I blame him for all world crisis in the near future whether he is President or not because of the divisive forces he has set in motion around the world. I do though see some hope but it is not in our Government or in anyone else's. It is in us It is in We the People of America and the World!

Do not forget who was on watch during the Great Depression and this so called Recession
Obama: GOP made political 'calculation' to 'stand on the sidelines and blame all their produced woes on him' The president lamented what he described as a lack of "honest conversation about the greatest income inequality since the 1920s" or who and what was responsible for "the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression."
He dismissed Republican criticisms he has been engaging in class warfare or promoting socialism. Focusing on making life easier, fairer and more prosperous for middle class citizens should be a shared goal, the president said. Middle class America is no concern of Republicans. Getting back to their goal of an elitist society is all that matters period.
Knowing that life today is a false creation of Bush's in every respect I ask you to take a step back and remember that amidst all the bragging we were hearing about this great economy and that we had the longest Bull run in 80 years on his watch remember who was in control 80 years ago and what happened.
Remember, Republican Calvin Coolidge was President from 1923 to 1929 and Republican Herbert Hoover took over in March of 1929. The system was way over valued and ultimately crashed on their watch. This time the house of cards President Bush and Allen Greenspan created started crashing down in 2007 on his watch. from 2006, Taking a hard new look at Greenspan's legacy
However, the real pain of the length and depth of the problem and what it would take to remedy it was put off until Bush was out and Obama was elected so they could put the entire blame on him. I also realize we now have a system in place so there will never be a repeat of the Stock Market Crash of 1929 but?
We knew who caused the problem and who fixed it 80 years ago. During the Great Depression FDR had the cooperation of Republicans. They wanted to see him succeed and save the country. That is not true today as you know. Republicans want to see President Obama fail and could care less that, that means America too.
Republicans want to get Bush's elitist society back on line and eliminate Obama's America of equality. Republicans goal is to wipe out FDR's legacy and destroy every single Democrat accomplishment ever not just Obama's. They are well on their way as you know.
It was a long ago foregone conclusion! This was written two years ago and The Second Great Depression set up by Greenspan was a given regardless of all these bailouts. They will do nothing but stave off the inevitable and speed up the bankrupting of America also set in motion by Bush. First a reminder from 2 years ago that Greenspan set this crash up! Now it's too late but theyre Taking Hard New Look at a Greenspan Legacy

02/21/07 "ICH" -- -- This week’s data on the sagging real estate market leaves no doubt that the housing bubble is quickly crashing to earth and that hard times are on the way. “The slump in home prices from the end of 2005 to the end of 2006 was the biggest year over year drop since the National Association of Realtors started keeping track in 1982.” (New York Times) The Commerce Dept announced that the construction of new homes fell in January by a whopping 14.3%. Prices fell in half of the nation’s major markets and “existing home sales declined in 40 states”. Arizona, Florida, California, and Virginia have seen precipitous drops in sales. The Commerce Department also reported that “the number of vacant homes increased by 34% in 2006 to 2.1 million at the end of the year, nearly double the long-term vacancy rate.” (Marketwatch)
The bottom line is that inventories are up, sales are down, profits are eroding, and the building industry is facing a steady downturn well into the foreseeable future. The ripple effects of the housing crash will be felt throughout the overall economy; shrinking GDP, slowing consumer spending and putting more workers in the growing unemployment lines. Congress is now looking into the shabby lending practices that shoehorned millions of people into homes that they clearly cannot afford. But their efforts will have no affect on the loans that are already in place. $1 trillion in ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) are due to reset in 2007 which guarantees that millions of over-leveraged homeowners will default on their mortgages putting pressure on the banks and sending the economy into a tailspin. We are at the beginning of a major shake-up and there’s going to be a lot more blood on the tracks before things settle down. The banks and mortgage lenders are scrambling for creative ways to keep people in their homes but the subprime market is already teetering and foreclosures are on the rise.
There’s no doubt now, that Fed chairman Alan Greenspan’s plan to pump zillions of dollars into the system via “low interest rates” has created the biggest monster-bubble of all time and set the stage for a deep economic retrenchment. Greenspan’s inflationary policies were designed to expand the “wealth gap” and create greater economic polarization between the classes. By the time the housing bubble deflates, millions of working class Americans will be left to pay off loans that are considerably higher than the current value of their home. This will inevitably create deeper societal divisions and, very likely, a ">permanent underclass of mortgage-slaves. A shrewd economist and student of history like Greenspan knew exactly what the consequences of his low interest rates would be. The trap was set to lure in unsuspecting borrowers who felt they could augment their stagnant wages by joining the housing gold rush. It was a great way to mask a deteriorating economy by expanding personal debt. The meltdown in housing will soon be felt in the stock market which appears to be lagging the real estate market by about 6 months. Soon, reality will set in on Wall Street just as it has in the housing sector and the “loose money” that Greenspan generated with his mighty printing press will flee to foreign shores. It looks as though this may already be happening even though the stock market is still flying high. On Friday, the government reported that net capital inflows reversed from the requisite $70 billion to AN OUTFLOW OF $11 BILLION! Michael Whitney "The Second Great Depression
Now that it's too late they are Taking Hard New Look at a Greenspan Legacy: Many of you know I was waiting for this Coolapse. It hurt to watch this set up for years! Remember what the double speak idiot said? “Not only have individual financial institutions become less vulnerable to shocks from underlying risk factors, but also the financial system as a whole has become more resilient.” — Alan Greenspan in 2004! George Soros, the prominent financier, avoids using the financial contracts known as derivatives “because we don’t really understand how they work.” Felix G. Rohatyn, the investment banker who saved New York from financial catastrophe in the 1970s, described derivatives as potential “hydrogen bombs.” And Warren E. Buffett presciently observed five years ago that derivatives were “financial weapons of mass destruction, carrying dangers that, while now latent, are potentially lethal.”
One prominent financial figure, however, has long thought otherwise. And his views held the greatest sway in debates about the regulation and use of derivatives — exotic contracts that promised to protect investors from losses, thereby stimulating riskier practices that led to the financial crisis. For more than a decade, the former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan has fiercely objected whenever derivatives have come under scrutiny in Congress or on Wall Street. “What we have found over the years in the marketplace is that derivatives have been an extraordinarily useful vehicle to transfer risk from those who shouldn’t be taking it to those who are willing to and are capable of doing so,” Mr. Greenspan told the Senate Banking Committee in 2003. “We think it would be a mistake” to more deeply regulate the contracts, he added.
Today, with the world caught in an economic tempest that Mr. Greenspan recently described as “the type of wrenching financial crisis that comes along only once in a century,” his faith in derivatives remains unshaken. Too late but they are taking a hard look at a Greenspan Legacy
* I have been saying for years now that this manufactured perfect storm will dwarf WW2 abd the Great Depression combined. It is just starting! The bankrupting of America is only one part of it. If this election cannot be stolen for McCain Bush has till January 20th to do his worst damage to our Democracy yet! Anywar two years ago I said the Dow has to get back to where it was before Bush and Greenspan inflated it with their lies of harmful Bravedo then it will go down from there! This is serving two purpposes! It is giving Bush more control over our America and us and at the same time The financial crisis could yield a bumper crop of U.S. military recruits if the recent plunge in stocks translates into job losses and an even weaker economy, defense officials said on Friday.
"We do benefit when things look less positive in civil society," said David Chu, under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness. "That is a situation where more people are willing to give us a chance. I think that's the big difference: people are willing to listen to us." Chu was speaking to Pentagon reporters after announcing that all four branches of the U.S. armed forces -- Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force -- met their respective recruiting goals for the federal fiscal year that ended on September 30. All told, 185,000 men and women entered active-duty military service, the highest number since 2003, according to Pentagon statistics. Another 140,000 signed up for duty in the National Guard and reserve.
With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon in recent years has been under pressure to expand recruitment to alleviate strains on the military structure and increase the size of the Army and Marines. What a set up
