Nuclear progress as US Hosts World Nuclear Summit: Medvedev: Obama thinks when he speaks, unlike...?

US Hosts World Nuclear Summit: Medvedev: Obama thinks when he speaks, unlike...?

With new START treaty signed and completed Obama and Palin trade words. What a bad joke Palin is saying she is as qualified as Obama to discuss nukes. Obama, Palin trade words over nuclear policy

Signed & completed: US, Russia close nuclear talks

As the junior senator from Illinois in August 2005 President Obama traveled to Russia, the Ukraine and Azerbaijan with his more senior colleague Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, for a tour of some of the Cold War's most fearsome weapons sites. It was Obama's first trip abroad as a U.S. senator. The Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was taking along its newest member for a crash course in nuclear security and he learned well.
By then, Lugar had spent more than a dozen years helping to secure and dismantle Soviet-era nuclear stockpiles and weapons systems. Obama, a Democrat, spent much of the trip watching and learning. Five years later, Obama is no longer the understudy and we have to listen to loud mouthed fools like Sarah Palin make fun of Obama's expertise gained as a community organizer comparing herself equal to him. I mean come on! Obama takes non-nuclear pledge to world leaders | Seattle Times ...
The problem and task before the world is daunting but critical and all must be on board. Just 55 pounds of highly enriched uranium "about the size of a grapefruit" is needed to make a small nuclear device. There are an estimated 3.5 million pounds of the material in 40 countries around the world, and another 1.1 million pounds of plutonium. That is scary! It is enough to create 200,000 atom bombs.

I just want to remind that Libya led the way in turning away from nuclear material and endeavors. Nuclear terrorism is and has been declare our biggest threat short of our already degrading environment. Obama met with leaders from South Africa and Kazakhstan, countries which have gone nuclear free, giving up their nuclear weapons programs. The Ukraine, Canada, and Chile vow to be nuke free with Canada and the Ukraine vowing to send all material to the US. Ukraine pledges to get rid of nuclear material | Bryan/College ...

This is their chance to get rid of all that life destroying material. The EU joins Obama in wanting eradication, China says they will work with us, and some Nations have agreed to send their nuclear material to us. I guess better us than anyone else but if we become the Fort Knox of Uranium where will it go? NIMBY! (not in my backyard)

I have to run out,but I wanted to say I think this material might be able to be used in the new Nuclear plants Obama wants to build. I have a lot more research to do on this.

Hi Tim! I agree, France is the expert at recycling nuclear waste and I am sure we will work with them.

I am blown away at the amount of nuclear material there is floating around the world. This is an extreme danger in the world we live in today.

The USA is very clever in collecting nuclear materials. The fact that it is being handed over free of charge is truly mind blowing in many regards. While I understand that selling such material would anger America, it is hard to ignore their inherent value.

I am sure that the USA has no intention on wasting such a valuable resource. Be it recycling into new nuclear power plants, or something more sinister, there is little doubt in my mind that those handling the material are looking to make a substantial amount of money.

Hi Zhann! Son of a gun I never thought of that. I guess if someone has to be the nuclear waste bank it might as well be us.

You know, we have to start recycling what is here and the french are the experts on that.

I can see securing all of it if there is any such thing and the payment would be doing it free of charge.

If we are going to reuse any of the material the best bet would be our own whose quality "ironic" we can trust.

A couple of things. It looks like I beat you to it on this article. Recycling is exactly what they plan and if they're lucky it just might pay the costs of having to store all the spent fuel.
As for shooting the stuff at the sun forget it too expensive. I thought about that when I was a kid.
As for the NIMBYs South Carolina seems more than willing to take the stuff and I'm sure some other red states will as well. I say anyone who cheerleads for the stuff needs to take all the waste.
We just took a shipment from Chile even with the earthquake.

Ironic the word verify was "regreen".

I find those verifications ironic but they feed off the article. Anyway, I forget where we had planned to store them maybe you remember but the green peacers fought it. It would have to be somewhere the earth did not move.

re yesterday... you know trackers can be traced... and it seems those guys do for some magical reason often have better access to things like that than we have.
Well, the US is better equipped, but if you're speaking for the British or the Danish... well they often don't even have a satellite phone...

Also why would those prisoners not reveal that they have a tracker?

I haven't had time to get to deep into this but for the life of me I haven't been able to verify a thing.

Gee Sarah I have to claim stupidity! What do you mean tracker?

Lily said...

Tracker is a tracking device, I think you might have written something like "a microchip implanted into the the suspect/prisoner". Something like that you wrote in yesterday's comment...
I'm not into the subject, so I don't know all the many different types they have. But it can be the size or a VeriChip or even smaller, since one doesn't have to store lots of info on it, it just has to transmit the location somehow, could also be via GPS...
Anyway, you can scan people for trackers and there are different ways of doing that. Some even say, you could use a mobile phone. Actually you might even try that with a walkman...
However the suspect/or prisoner would usually know if/when you implant or shoot such a tracker into him and warn off the others.
Another thing you could do, is try and hide it in his food and hope he swallows it without noticing...

Anyway re Bergdahl I wonder if he's ever gonna return home since he would have quite a story to tell!

jmsjoin said...

Sorry, I forgot about this after I let TRICE PLAY SOLITAIRE. Now I get you! Here, in case your dog is lost or stolen they have a tiny computer chip you implant under their skin somewhere and you can track them via GPS!

I think Bergdahl wil see the light of day when we get out and they use him up. They can't kill him now!Like it or not this is a game and they have decided to play for too long.
