As the junior senator from Illinois in August 2005 President Obama traveled to Russia, the Ukraine and Azerbaijan with his more senior colleague Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, for a tour of some of the Cold War's most fearsome weapons sites. It was Obama's first trip abroad as a U.S. senator. The problem and task before the world is daunting but critical and all must be on board. Just 55 pounds of highly enriched uranium "about the size of a grapefruit" is needed to make a small nuclear device. There are an estimated 3.5 million pounds of the material in 40 countries around the world, and another 1.1 million pounds of plutonium. That is scary! It is enough to create 200,000 atom bombs.

I just want to remind that Libya led the way in turning away from nuclear material and endeavors. Nuclear terrorism is and has been declare our biggest threat short of our already degrading environment. Obama met with leaders from South Africa and Kazakhstan, countries which have gone nuclear free, giving up their nuclear weapons programs. This is their chance to get rid of all that life destroying material. The EU joins Obama in wanting eradication, China says they will work with us, and some Nations have agreed to send their nuclear material to us. I guess better us than anyone else but if we become the Fort Knox of Uranium where will it go? NIMBY! (not in my backyard)

Those that have been following my series on the missile shield know that while many say it does not work that it does work at least for Bush's purposes. It has been my contention right along that its main and only purpose is as a tool for Bush to have to fight and appear "forced". Anyway, it is working well! Despite Putin's numerous threats if the shield was put in Poland and Czechoslovakia many of which have already been acted on, Bush insists of course with going ahead with his plans.
A U.S. missile-defense system will be built in Poland despite Russia's anger over the plans, Polish President Lech Kaczynski said on Monday after a meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush. "The matter of the shield is largely a foregone conclusion," Kaczynski said at a news conference following the meeting.
The location has already been decided. One sticking point still to be worked out I never even thought of but I should have known. This makes me think about so much! Stupid me thought these missile defense systems would only be staffed by technicians.
One thing being debated is how many U.S. soldiers will be there. The missile defense systems and all the issues surrounding them aside. No wonder Russia is dead against this. Plus The Czech Republic has already agreed to the radar site on their soil.

Bush in the US State of Maine earlier this month, there was little optimism about Moscow's latest proposal to develop bilateral missile defense cooperation. Putin suggested at a meeting with Bush on 2 July that the two countries jointly use the Armavir radar station now under construction in southern Russia. Last month, Putin offered to share with the US the Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan. While not overtly rejecting Russian initiatives, Washington reiterated plans to go ahead with its missile shield in Eastern Europe.
The Kremlin has warned that Russia would respond by targeting European countries with its missiles, "turning Europe into a powder keg," while blaming the US missile defense plans for raising the risk of a nuclear confrontation in Europe. On 31 May, Putin made it clear that Russia's latest missiles tests were in response to the US missile shield program and NATO's perceived failure to ratify the adapted CFE Treaty.
Russia's CFE move may be backed up by arms buildup in Kaliningrad, the Russian Western enclave between Lithuania and Poland on the Baltic Sea. On 4 July, first deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov warned that Russia could deploy short-range missiles in the Kaliningrad region. Former defense minister Ivanov - a possible successor to Putin - said such a deployment would come as a response by Russia against US missile defense.
Russia is also now questioning the validity of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and threaten to pull out of it altogether. The deployment of Iskander ("Alexander the Great") missiles in the Kaliningrad region could put a sizable part of NATO territory within Russia's range. The Missile Defense System may be worthless but it is serving Bush's purpose to instigate another War to further his New world order!
Many of you know I have been following events with the missile Defense System since I first heard Bush trying to push it around the world. I had hopes after hearing Putin's latest proposal on placing it in Azerbaijan or in Iraq and Turkey. I thought Bush might go for that and that it would get Russia and Europe together and maybe in the middle east on our side.
However After Bush was made the proposal by Putin he flew right to Poland to let them know there would be no change of plans. Of course Putin was angry and urged the United States on Saturday to freeze plans for missile defense installations in eastern Europe during negotiations and warned that the proposal intended to serve as a buffer against Iran could backfire. http://www.abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3261950
You know Bush will stop nothing as this is going as planned for him. I have to say, I had some great discussions with a few people here yesterday in regard to this.
Anyway thinking about the many conversations we had and what I learned from them and reading reports after the fact, I now think Putin's proposals were a farce, no good, and Bush and Putin both know they cannot be accepted.
Both of those scenarios would put the systems within range of Iran's short range missiles so that is a no go from the start. That brings me back to my original assumption that these systems are merely a way of provoking the world until Bush forces a confrontation and it appears like the poor Bush has to fight again to further his idea of a new world order.
This missile shield may or may not work but It is serving Bush's purpose most handily. It is supplying the impetus for him to be forced to use his military and prosecute his new world order As he did in Iraq, as he is doing in the entire middle east, and around the world. Once he uses his facade of politics and false Diplomacy he will again be forced to do exactly what he intended from the beginning.
I was hoping he would share super power status with at least Russia but it looks like he wants to take them on too as he is under the false impression that Russia and China are going to lie down while he has his way in the middle east and around the world. Bush is willing to take the chance that we are dominant and I think he is grossly underestimating the rest of the world and their hate for Bush and willingness to take us on if forced.

Putin's latest Proposal: Putting Missile shield in Iraq and Turkey could Polarize the World in the Middle East!

                                                   

I really don't know why, maybe it is the world stage of the G8 meeting. Anyway the proposals for bush's missile defense system are flying hot and heavy at this point. I know yesterday after Putin suggested putting the Missile shield in Azerbaijan, Bush immediately flew to Poland.

 Bush, on his way home from the Group of Eight meeting in Germany, was whisked straight off in a helicopter from Gdansk to Jurata, a small resort on the Baltic coast, where he will meet his Polish counterpart Leech Kaczynski to allay Polish concerns that their agreement would be scrapped.

Poland has agreed in principle to host 10 U.S. interceptor rockets to shoot down hostile ballistic missiles and the two countries are currently negotiating details of a deal. However as we know Russia thinks it is the target and Upping the ante, Putin made a surprise offer on Thursday to let the United States use a Russian-controlled radar in Azerbaijan to intercept any threats from the Middle East.

They even made an offer to share information on the installation. To me I find this offer remarkable especially in light of Azerbaijan's largely untapped wealth and still close proximity to Russia. Now the Middle East suggestion.

Many think Azerbaijan would put the systems too close to the supposed intended target. It seems to me that keeping Poland and Chezhoslavakia on the table would only add scope to the system is everyone is being honest but you cannot count on that. Now there is more food for thought.

Azerbaijan is ready for such consultations but many commentators in both Poland and Czech Republic saw Putin's offer as a ploy to derail the U.S. plans. Myself knowing that I have learned in the past that the target missiles are most vulnerable at the highest heat stage of gaining height I don't understand the argument of being to close to the intended targets. With that said I found Putin's parting suggesting extremely provocative and potentially world changing. Putin's suggestion of putting the systems in Iraq and Turkey would change the entire middle east and world.

Myself, knowing what is happening on the Turkey Iraq border right now, all through the middle east and on the Iraq Iran border I find this a very provocative proposal and its conception would at least put Russia in the middle east too among others.

Putin is proposing to create a pool of European nations to assess missile threats through 2020 and agree on a joint action to fend off these threats," he said at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany.

This missile defense system has proven more contentious than I would have thought at first. It seems to have suddenly become a major topic of the world. Iraq was very angry over the Putin proposal but I think it bears some thought. It seems it would be in the interest of Turkey, the U.S. and Iraq if peace and security were there goals. Azerbaijan has now been laid on the table in the supposed MDS Controversey between Bush and Putin!

We have been following the events for quite a while now as tensions ratchet up between Bush and his friend Putin. The worlds attention seems to have been purposely focused on what they think is a battle between Putin and Bush over the proposed MDS. As you know, in response to Bush's insistence on putting the missile shield in Russia's yard Putin has announced dropping its compliance with Europe on the conventional weapons treaty. Most recently they have developed an ICBM capable of circumventing the missile defense system and threatened to retarget Europe with its missiles.
In light of a conversation I had with someone here and what transpired yesterday I am rethinking the real role of the Missile Defense System and who the real target is! Amidst tit for tat threats from Russia and the U.S. we had Bush brag that Russia will not attack Europe. You have to wonder what if anything Bush knows? I believe the supposed rift between Bush and Putin is a Ruse. China is the real hidden target!

Now this offer by Putin makes me believe I was right about China being the real target.
The proposal by Undersecretary of Defense Eric Edelman was the most explicit offer yet by a top U.S. official to address Russia's fears that planned missile interceptor and radar sites in Poland and the Czech Republic could be expanded.

I am really starting to second guess my original thought that Bush was provoking a confrontation with Russia in light of what Russia mentioned last week and China said two days ago. Putin mentioned that China had not been heard from and had as much to be concerned about as Russia as they were within range and in the path. China if I remember has its concerns with the MDS and that they could be used to protect Taiwan. well yesterday that changed and now I have to rethink what someone here said about China.

Amidst mutual accusations between Russia and the U.S. we have Russia being offered to get involved with the MDS we have many new developments. With China piping up I now have to give credence to the thought that the end result of all this saber rattling is that the US and Russia would be together to keep the third world power Wannabe's in their place. Is China the real target? Sounds feasable to me. In light of Russia's desire to be a power to reckon with once more and China's military and technology buildup What are your thoughts on this possibility?
