Putin putdown: Russia will not be pushed around any more
Russian Navy ships from three Russian fleets also are now steaming toward Syria’s coast
Russia Sends Warships to Mediterranean: A flotilla of Russian Navy ships set sail Tuesday for the Mediterranean, where Russia maintains a small base at Tartus, Syria. A destroyer and three landing ships left the Arctic port of Severomorsk. A second destroyer left Russia’s base at Sevastopol, Ukraine. And Interfax reported that more warships from the Baltic Fleet, based in St. Petersburg, are preparing to join the flotilla.
The warships set sail the day after Russia’s President Vladimir Putin accused the West of “missile bomb democracy.” With Russian Navy ships from three Russian fleets now steaming toward Syria’s coast, the Kremlin seems to be sending a clear signal that it will stand by Assad.
Russian Autumn: Say what you will about Vladimir Putin, he is putting on a clinic for fellow dictators in how to put down an incipient democratic rebellion. Since he began his third term as Russian President in May, the Kremlin has raided the homes of opposition leaders, threatened criminal probes, and proposed legislation to remove "harmful" Internet sites.
In the latest crackdown, the submissive Duma, or parliament, last week adopted new rules that make it possible for the Kremlin to fine or otherwise punish any non-governmental organization (NGO) that accepts foreign money and engages in "political activities" (definition left deliberately vague).
Kremlin internet bill 'signals growing repression of critics by Putin': Two months after Vladimir Putin once again assumed the post of Russian president, the long-feared crackdown on his critics appears to have begun. The internet bill due to be considered by parliament on Wednesday is, say activists, the latest sign of growing repression of civil freedom in Russia.
This is very concerning. I remember back in 2008 when Putin was going to try and be President for life. He was not alone. Leaders aligned with Russia were all trying to get permanent leadership so they could be at the helm of their prospective countries to take on then President Bush when his war mongering hit the point where Russia, the 135 non aligned Nations, Iran, and others were prepared to join forces and take him and our allies on.
I remember when Bush first met Putin and he said he shook his hand and looked him in the eye and saw a man of compassion, a man who was true to his word, and a man he could work with. I shuttered at Bush's stupidity. I looked at Putin and saw a man deceitful to the core who was not to be trusted period.
We were too pompous then and were pushing the world towards WW3 with our take it or leave it, my way or the highway, interference around the world. Putin was determined to head us off, to directly confront us when we were on Russia's front door trying to instigate war by installing the so called missile shield in Czechoslovakia and Poland, and return Russia to the role of a world leader.
Personally we blew it when Russia broke up and the Berlin wall came down. We were the world leader and had the perfect opportunity to be humble, show we were the leader, and bring the world together to proceed successfully through the 21st century. We egged on the likes of Vladimir Putin who understandably chaffed under our we are the boss do what we say take it or leave it, it your face tactics of Bush and Cheney.
Putin has taken their cue. Putin's goal is to stop the US and put an end to US hegemony. While supposedly supporting Democracy he is arresting all the leaders of the movement against him and harassing all its supporters. He is doing what he can to suppress their means of communication. I have heard in recent weeks that Russian aircraft have been found twice feeling out the borders of the United States in a reminder of the cold war.
Putin has taken the lead role in stopping the US from gaining influence in Syria. He has taken us on head on offering the Kremlin as an alternative for talks with both sides of the fight in Syria. They are currently on going with the opposition saying they have strong Russian ties "speaking in Russian" and would like to keep them.
Russia has absolutely no intention of letting her ties or her assets and influence go in Syria their last real grasp in the middle east. Putin as we long feared is going to be our Bane.

Faltering Iran talks stoke fears of another military strike: Hold the F on!
![]() |
| With huge Russian, Iranian, Chinese, and Syrian military assets right here, prelude to WW3? |
Faltering Iran talks stoke fears of new conflict: A new round of sanctions is scheduled to take effect July 1, increasing the pressure on Iran’s faltering economy. At the same time, prominent Israeli and U.S. politicians are renewing calls for preparations for a military strike to halt Iran’s nuclear progress.
While insisting that diplomatic efforts would continue, the official said the White House was “sober” in assessing the outcome of the Moscow talks, in which Iran was said to have balked at demands for freezing production of a type of enriched uranium that can be easily converted to fuel for nuclear weapons.
The United States and its allies contend that Iran is using civilian facilities as a cover for developing a nuclear weapons capability, an assertion Iran denies. (the U.N. Security Council’s five permanent members and Germany) pushed hard in the final hours of the Moscow meeting to preserve at least an appearance of continuing negotiations, fearing that a complete failure would increase the likelihood of a military strike.
No fear it is already coming because of Syria and it is long in the works. We attacked Iraq to help Israel and with only one of the goals being starting a war with Iran and Syria. My fear has always been China and Russia and what would they do. The US and the IRG have done everything possible to start the war since we attacked Iraq and failed.
It is getting ready to happen in Syria without a new round of sanctions and I just hope to God it starts without us. From day one I have been warning that we are the target here. The US and our allies are the target and the Syrian people are merely the tools in this the opening volley in the battle against US hegemony and future dominance. Remember, when Bush was President Russia, China, and Iran, were the three main players in the force Putin was putting together to take on US war mongering around the world.
This is no coincidence! Putin may back Assad's removal but he and the Alawite's and their allies are going no where. Russia just sent in marines and 2 war ships to Syria to supposedly aid in evacuation of necessary. Russia and China are not going to allow themselves to be kicked out of Syria as would be the case if the opposition gained power.
Likewise, there is also no way Iran is going to let her ally and guard 'Syria" fall to the opposition or more pointedly Democracy and US and Western influence. With that said Iran, Russia, China to stage massive joint military drill in Syria: Iran, Russia, China and Syria are planning to hold joint military drill in Syria in early July, according to a report published Tuesday morning by Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency.
Citing "informed sources," Fars reported that the four countries will conduct war games on land and at sea, with the participation of some 90,000 soldiers, 1,000 tanks and 400 aircraft. According to the sources, Egypt has agreed to allow 12 Chinese warships passage through the Suez Canal on their way to Syria. Iranian battleships and submarines, along with Russian nuclear submarines, warships, aircraft carriers and mine-clearing destroyers will also participate in the exercise.
This is no frigging game, this is no frigging joke. Under the guise of a war game I do not believe we have a choice but we are preparing to allow the 4 players to set up and have on station all the military equipment, hardware, and personnel, they will need when this "blows" even if they instigate it when "dragged into this" because "free Syrian Army" attacked one of their interests.
12 Chinese warships, 90,000 soldiers,1000 tanks, 400 aircraft? Does anyone else see what is setting up right before our eyes and we appear to be helpless to stop it?

Turkey vows to retaliate, sends military convoy to Syrian border drawing defiance from Assad
Turkey vows to retaliate 'with determination' after jet shooting, sends military convoy to Syrian border, Threatens Force if Syrian Troops Near Border
Turkey vows to retaliate 'with determination' after jet shooting I hate to say it but it will open between Turkey and Syria probably purposely then Iran will get in and to one degree or the other Russia and China, I do not believe we are smart enough to keep out of it either.
Turkey threatens military retaliation along Syria border, drawing defiance from Assad
Turkey sends military convoy to Syrian border: Turkey has deployed a large number of military vehicles to the Syrian border, daily Milliyet reported. While NATO meeting on Tuesday netted some strong words, the Secretary General of NATO made it clear that chapter 5, the part of the treaty with teeth, was never mentioned. This means that without another incident, there is currently zero chance of NATO action against Syria.
Interestingly, however, Turkey seems to be taking no chances. According to Turkish media, the military is sending a convoy of troops to the border: The shipment included 15 armored tanks, in addition to long-distance guns and other military vehicles. The convoy was heavily guarded as it moved toward the border in the event of an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members.
Turkey Threatens Force if Syrian Troops Near Border: Buoyed by support from NATO allies, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday threatened a Turkish military response to any perceived threat from Syria along the troubled border following the disputed downing of a Turkish warplane. The Turkish leader's bellicose tone signaled no discernible easing of tensions between the two Mediterranean neighbors as ambassadors from the NATO alliance, desperate to avoid a wider conflict, held emergency talks in Brussels.
In a unanimous statement, the NATO allies called the episode "another example of the Syrian authorities’ disregard for international norms, peace and security, and human life." “I would certainly expect that such an incident won’t happen again,” Mr. Rasmussen said at a news conference at alliance headquarters in Brussels. He added that NATO would closely follow developments and “if necessary, consult and discuss what else could be done.”
As Syrian opposition groups gather in Turkey and continue to unify, a Syrian Helicopter Pilot Defected and Escaped to Turkey. Also a senior intel officer was assassinated and Turkey a neighbor and once close ally closed its embassy and joined the United States sending non lethal aid to the opposition.
Almost 40 Syrian soldiers - including a general and two colonels - have defected to Turkey, according to Turkish state television. Reports said that the general, two colonels, two majors, one lieutenant and 33 soldiers had arrived in Turkey but did not give any more details.
Another channel, CNN Turk, also reported the defections, adding that they had arrived with members of their families, making a total of 224 individuals. The reported defections come a day before an emergency Nato meeting to discuss the shooting down of a Turkish warplane by Syrian forces. Before that a Syrian Colonel defected to Turkey with his Russian Mig 21 fighter jet, that is why I figure Syria shot down Turkey's plane.
At this point the UN has condemned Syria for what that is worth and Turkey has said they would not go to war over recent events but she is sure appearing to be instigating it right now. Russia and China are not going to allow themselves to be kicked out of Syria as would be the case if the opposition gained power.
Likewise, there is also no way Iran is going to let her ally and guard 'Syria" fall to the opposition or more pointedly Democracy and US and Western influence. Nor are they going to sit still while Turkey gets involved which is what I have to say Syria has been counting on.
Syria seems to be baiting Turkey knowing NATO will step up because Syria knows in turn so will Russia China and Iran. I do not like what I see! Syria is China and Russia's last real foot hold in the middle east they and Iran are not going to give this up easily. This is going to take a hell of a long and deadly fight. I fully expect Russia and China to be drawn into this and then the entire middle east will take sides. I hope we can avert WW3 but I would not bet on it!

Many more soldiers killed and defected as Syrian military losing morale:
![]() |
| The Syrian army is slowly disintegrating as troop morale plummets, with Irran Russia and China there then what? |
Many more soldiers killed and defected as Syrian military losing morale: Russian military supply ship heads back to Syria under armed escort!
Just in: Almost 40 Syrian soldiers - including a general and two colonels - have defected to Turkey, according to Turkish state television.
At least 34 killed, more than 1/2 soldiers as Syria violence hits new heights. Violence in Syria killed at least 34 people on Sunday, more than half of them troops who died in clashes with rebels as the bloodshed reached new heights, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In a further blow to the army, rebels captured 11 soldiers during an attack on their base in the regime stronghold of Al-Nabak in Damascus province. At least 16 soldiers were killed in fighting in the northern province of Aleppo, while two others died in attacks elsewhere in the country.
"The clashes happened almost simultaneously at dawn" in several towns in Aleppo province, the Observatory's Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP by telephone. The Britain-based group added that a number of soldiers defected after an attack on an artillery battalion in the province, taking with them a large amount of weapons. "The morale of the military is very low," Abdel Rahman said, adding the army recently buried 113 soldiers in one region alone.
More than 15,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Syria since the outbreak of the revolt against Assad's rule in March 2011, according to the Observatory.
A ship carrying Russian helicopters to Syria, which turned back after its insurance was cut, is expected to resume its journey accompanied by at least one other vessel, Interfax reported on Sunday, citing a military source.
The report is likely to reignite international criticism of Russia's arms deliveries to Syria which U.S. officials have called reprehensible and the Arab League has said should be stopped. "A military-diplomatic source in Moscow told Interfax that (the ship) will go from Murmansk to Syria. According to his information the ship should travel under escort," the news agency reported.
Syrian soldiers are being killed and defecting in larger and larger numbers causing the Military to lose morale. Think about the large scale slaughtering of civilians seemingly sanctioned by China, Russia, and Iran with their keeping the West from helping the people and their supplying of arms and ammunition and high tech weapons to slaughter them and as we are led to think, be used to keep foreign Nations from interfering with what has developed into a civil war thanks to Assad.
You have to be more concerned than ever about the huge "wide spread land air and sea military "exercise" Iran, Syria, Russia, and China are preparing for in July. Putin may back Assad's removal or Assad may be killed otherwise he and the Alawite's and their allies are going no where. Russia just sent in marines and 2 war ships to Syria to supposedly aid in evacuation of necessary. Russia and China are not going to allow themselves to be kicked out of Syria as would be the case if the opposition gained power.

Any way you look at it, 1000 tanks, 400 aircraft, 90000 soldiers, 12 Chinese war ships, that is not an exercise that is a staying force. If the Government somehow falls there is no way in hell that Russia and China are just going to go home and sulk. They are going to stay whether the people like it or not and make this their stand in the middle east.
Putin and China have had enough. They are going to make a stand. If you have not noticed they have chosen to make it here on the backs of the Syrian people. I do not like what I see! Syria is China and Russia's last real foot hold in the middle east they and Iran are not going to give this up easily. This is going to take a hell of a long and deadly fight. Because of China, Russia, and Iran I have become very concerned about a Syria without Bashar al-Assad
![]() |
| Did Egypt let China's ships through the Suez to trap them or... |
Very, very concerned! Reading all this about the more than 20,000 military defections many of the of the highest level and the growing number of high level Government officials you want to be happy for the Syrian people wanting Democracy. Especially that There is even at least one in the Palace and in the Government transferring money to other countries and making other preparations. I would be cautious about moving money to China though.
Anyway think about the large scale slaughtering of civilians seemingly sanctioned by China, Russia, and Iran with their keeping the West from helping the people and their supplying of arms and ammunition and high tech weapons to slaughter them and as we are led to think, be used to keep foreign Nations from interfering with what has developed into a civil war thanks to Assad.
Syrian fighter pilot defects to Jordan with his MiG-21 warplane (+video), other senior figures trying to defect
Syrian fighter pilot defects to Jordan with his MiG-21 warplane (+video): Turkish officials said that two Syrian generals, a colonel and two sergeants had defected from the army and crossed into Turkey. Also in March, Syria's deputy oil minister became the highest-ranking civilian official to join the opposition and urged his countrymen to "abandon this sinking ship" as the nation spiraled toward civil war.
Brig. Gen. Mostafa Ahmad al-Sheik, who fled to Turkey in January, was the highest ranking officer to bolt. In late August, Adnan Bakkour, the attorney general of the central city of Hama, appeared in a video announcing he had defected. In January, Imad Ghalioun, a member of Syria's parliament, left the country to join the opposition saying the Syrian people are suffering sweeping human rights violations.
'Senior Syria regime figures trying to defect': According to the report, senior Syrian military commanders have outlined “exit strategies” and are making direct contact with rebel forces to ensure that they will be welcomed and not persecuted. The Daily Telegraph also claimed that three other MiG pilots also considered defecting, but worried about how they would be treated. “We are seeing members of Bashar Assad’s inner circle make plans to leave.
" The report indicates that the defectors' plans have gotten as concrete as moving large sums of money offshore into Lebanese and Chinese banks and making contact with opposition elements and Western governments. Syrian opposition groups confirmed that they were actively courting American help to encourage more defections. One senior opposition source told the Telegraph that, “I know for sure there are some high-ranking officers who are waiting for the right chance to leave. We have names of people in the presidential palace.
Meanwhile Syrian security forces killed 144 people yesterday, a rights group said, making it one of the bloodiest days in recent weeks in President Bashar al-Assad’s crackdown on opposition groups. More than 30 of the deaths came in the central region of Homs, and another 29 in Daraa in the south, the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in an e-mailed statement today. It said at least 54 soldiers also died.

War games in a war zone? Hold on!

| Syria Iran Russia China land and sea war games in the middle of a war zone? |
Putin no longer backs Syria's Assad in power: Britain's PM Cameron said Putin had shifted his view of the Syrian leader during talks with U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders at a Group of 20 summit in Mexico, and that discussions were now focused on a transition.
"There remain differences over sequencing and the shape of how the transition takes place but it is welcome that President Putin has been explicit that he does not want Assad remaining in charge in Syria," Cameron told reporters. "What we need next is an agreement on a transitional leadership which can move Syria to a democratic future that protects the rights of all its communities."
UN mission 'morally obliged' to stay in Syria: he head of the suspended United Nations' observer mission to Syria has told the Security Council his monitors were repeatedly targeted by hostile crowds, but that the mission is morally obliged to stay in the country.
Major General Robert Mood told the 15-nation security council on Tuesday that his 300-strong unarmed observer force was targeted with gunfire at least 10 times last week and nine vehicles were damaged, according to a UN diplomat who attended the closed- door briefing. The mission was suspended on Saturday after Mood, a Norwegian, said the risk to the unarmed observers was too great. Mood said that the UN monitors were "morally obliged" to stay in Syria even though escalating violence has halted operations.
This is really starting to smell like a setup. Remember our conversation of yesterday
From day one I have been warning that we are the target here. The US and our allies are the target and the Syrian people are merely the tools in this the opening volley in the battle against US hegemony and future dominance. Report: Iran, Russia, China to stage massive joint military drill in Syria: Iran, Russia, China and Syria are planning to hold joint military drill in Syria in early July, according to a report published Tuesday morning by Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency.
Claims of FSA planning to attack Tartus: The website “syrfuture.com” reported that the FSA leadership, from its base on the Turkish border, was preparing "to launch a military campaign against the northern coastal town of Tartus, which is currently being protected by thousands of Syrian officers and soldiers. It serves as a base for a sizeable proportion of the 100,000 Russians who are deployed in various northern areas and in the capital Damascus, where it is rumored that Syrian missile and chemical arsenals are located.
Western countries such as France, Britain, the United States and Canada believe that (Syrian President) Bashar al-Assad's regime would not hesitate to use these weapons against any Western-Arab military intervention in his country, and against neighboring countries like Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan, if he realized that his downfall was inevitable." The same website reported that "a FSA officer revealed the plans to move the battle to Tartus and its port, the location of Russia’s only naval base in the Mediterranean Sea, and that it is only a question of time."
Russia sending two warships to Syrian coast: report: shipment of attack helicopters and missiles stopped out side of Scotland on way to Syria
Russia sending two warships to Syrian coast: report: "Two major amphibious ships -- The Nikolai Filchenkov and The Tsezar Kunikov -- are preparing to be dispatched to Tartus outside of their schedule," the Russian news agency quoted an unidentified officer from the Russian naval headquarters as saying. The two ships will carry a "large" group of marines, Interfax added. There was no official confirmation of the report from the navy or the defence ministry.
The Tsezar Kunikov can carry 150 landing troops and various armaments including tanks, while The Nikolai Filchenkov can carry up to 1,500 tonnes of cargo and equipment, the report said. Interfax said that the ships could be used to evacuate Russian nationals. "The crews of The Nikolai Filchenkov and The Tsezar Kunikov and SB-15 rescue tug together with marines on board are able to ensure security of Russian nationals and evacuate part of the property of the logistical support base if need be," Interfax quoted a source as saying.
Vladimir Putin's strong support to the Syrian regime, and Barack Obama, whose country called for the departure of Bashar al-Assad also said they were "united in the idea that the Syrian people should be able to choose their future in an independent and democratic atmosphere" . Vladimir Putin has declared he found "numerous points of agreement" with Barack Obama on how to settle the Syrian crisis.
Washington also hopes that Russia will eventually facilitate a solution to the crisis in Syria, despite its refusal to support resolutions at the UN Security Council, condemning the regime for its repression of the revolt. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also accused Moscow last week of delivering gunship helicopters to President Assad's forces. Russia then replied that it had only repaired them in accordance to contracts signed before the crisis.
Russian shipment of attack helicopters and missiles stopped out side of Scotland on way to Syria
Russian Syria-bound arms ship turns back: Britain: The Curacao-flagged cargo ship Alaed, last seen off the north-west coast of Scotland this week, was believed to carrying Russian weaponry to Syria, according to an insurer which said it had withdrawn coverage for the vessel.
Britain's Foreign Office had said earlier it was aware of a consignment of refurbished Russian-made attack helicopters heading for Syria, but did not say if it was referring to the same vessel. "I am pleased that the ship that was reported to be carrying arms to Syria has now turned back apparently towards Russia," British Foreign Secretary William Hague told parliament.
Lavrov said Syria is their strong ally and they do not have to and will not tell the US anything. Not good. I told you of the dangers of Putin to the world and our future! US hegemony is the real target in Syria. What we are watching unfold is the first salvo in the war for future dominance. Russia is not going to let us have our way here. I hear they will stop short of WW3 but I would not count on that.
Remember when Putin was rallying and uniting the world to take on Bush and his drive to dominate the world? Absolutely as the world's mayhem ensues amidst its drive to dominate as we move through the 21st century is Putin's only agenda. It is an old thought. I remember when term limits made him have to leave last time. There was immediate speculation as to him taking back the Presidency after his term as PM. Putin is not to be trusted and Russians have felt his grubby little hands around their necks for 12 years as he intimidates and tries to control Russia's future for his party.
Be scared be very scared! The USSR's Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that Russia risks six lost years when Vladimir Putin returns to the presidency, echoing rumblings of dissent over his Kremlin comeback. I always find myself agreeing with Gorbachev but that is putting it mildly. This is bad news for the US and the world!
I had great hope when we elected President Obama who set the reset button with Russia and Russia who had elected Dmitri Medvedev who agreed to work with the US to proceed through the 21st century as partners instead of heading towards WW3 as adversaries. With the return of Putin to the Russian Presidency I am again very concerned and see an end to a partner country whose leaders words and actions we can trust and a return to a confrontational relationship with Russia. I do not like the man, I do not trust the man, and I am very concerned as to which direction Russia and the United States are headed now and at a time when China is surging militarily.
I am a little worried that China too is getting a little too heavy handed and abusive with her new position of power and beginning to take what she wants instead of being content with what she has which is what I constantly lecture has to be the case if we are to have a future. The time when man and the planet could handle war is over, period or else! Be very concerned for our future!

US official: Russia sends troops and missile defense systems to Syria as peace hopes fade:
![]() |
| Forget that! Will he stop before WW3 is the question |
A Russian military unit has arrived in Syria, according to Russian news reports, a development that a United Nations Security Council source told ABC News was "a bomb" certain to have serious repercussions. Russia, one of President Bashar al-Assad's strongest allies despite international condemnation of the government's violent crackdown on the country's uprising, has repeatedly blocked the United Nations Security Council's attempts to halt the violence, accusing the U.S. and its allies of trying to start another war.
Now the Russian Black Sea fleet's Iman tanker has arrived in the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean Sea with an anti-terror squad from the Russian Marines aboard according to the Interfax news agency. The Assad government has insisted it is fighting a terrorist insurgency. The Iman replaced another Russian ship "which had been sent to Syria for demonstrating (sic) the Russian presence in the turbulent region and possible evaluation of Russian citizens," the Black Sea Fleet told Interfax.
US official: Russia sends troops to Syria as peace hopes fade: Russia is sending armed troops to Syria amid escalating violence there, United States military officials told NBC News Friday, in a move certain to frustrate Western efforts to put pressure on the regime of President Bashir Assad. Moscow has sent a ship carrying a small contingent of combat forces to guard Russia’s deep-water port and military base at the Syrian city of Tartus, the US officials said.
The U.S. officials also said Russia has not sent additional attack helicopters to the Syrian government, but replacement parts for the Russian helicopters the Syrians are already flying. Tartus is one of Russia’s most strategically-important assets, giving it military access to the Mediterranean Sea. Russia says it is fulfilling existing contracts for air defense systems against external attacks. President Vladimir Putin, due to meet U.S. President Barack Obama next week, said the weapons Russia sends could not be used in civil conflicts.
A Russian arms dealer has said his company is shipping missile defence systems to Syria that could be used to combat international intervention in the country. Anatoly Isaykin, the general director of Rosoboronexport, said the advanced defensive missile systems could be used to shoot down planes or sink ships. Speaking in an interview with the New York Times, Isayakin said his disclosure was not a threat but a warning.
"I would like to say these mechanisms are really a good means of defence, a reliable defence against attacks from the air or sea. This is not a threat, but whoever is planning an attack should think about this." Isaykin said weaponry being shipped to Syria included the Pantsyr-S1, a radar-guided missile and artillery system capable of hitting planes at high altitudes, Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missiles and land-based Bastion anti-ship missiles, which can fire at targets 180 miles from the coast.
