Arctic Council gives 6 more Nations the right to help destroy and plunder the Arctic

Approximately 230 people, including ministers, delegates from the eight Arctic states, representatives of indigenous peoples, scientists and observers, participated in this event, which marks the end of the two-year Swedish chairmanship and the beginning of the Canadian chairmanship of the Arctic Council. The Arctic Council, founded about 20 years ago, includes eight Arctic countries, namely Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.

India’s bid for observer status in the Arctic Council was successful on Wednesday along with that of five other countries — China, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. An MEA spokesperson said India would contribute its scientific expertise, particularly its polar research capabilities.

U.S.'s Arctic plans may serve as a wake-up call for Canada and the world as they scramble for the resources as the Arctic thaws.

The Cold War for Arctic resources is not just heating up – it’s leading to a growing militarization in the remote North.

That’s the conclusion a study by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, which claims that Russia, Canada, Denmark and Norway are all developing their military interests there. Also, more countries are seeking access to the region’s important natural resources and transport routes, such as “outsiders” like China, India and Brazil.

U.S.'s Arctic plans may serve as a wake-up call for Canada: The Pentagon wants to know what’s happening in the Arctic; there’s an app for that. Well not yet, but Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency wants one in a hurry. In a call for proposals this week, it said it plans to pick, deploy and test two systems this summer. “Remote sensing may offer affordable advantages over traditional methods of monitoring the region – aircraft, satellites or manned ships and submarines – due to the great distances in the Arctic,” the agency said in a call for bids.

The U.S. military wants “new technologies to monitor the Arctic both above and below the ice, providing year-round situational awareness without the need for forward-basing or human presence.” Nothing nefarious about that. Except that slicing up the Arctic as retreating ice heralds a 21st-century resources rush and shipping boom at the top of the world is shaping up as a race for riches and control.Do you think it will matter?

I have been covering this for 6 years now, remember: The scramble for the Arctic: Russia to station 2 military Brigades in the Arctic: Vladimir Putin said Russia would strongly defend its interests and Putin is back
Russia's defense minister has said he plans to create two specialist army brigades to be based in the Arctic. The announcement comes days after Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Russia would strongly defend its interests in the region.

Denmark to lay claim to North Pole: DENMARK which already counts Greenland and the Faroe Islands as its Arctic territories, is planning to lay claim to the North Pole. This will put Denmark on a collision course with Russia, the US, Canada and Norway but they all better make a share deal and avoid conflict over this.

I wanted to discuss that in 2007 when Russia declared that it had successfully planted their flag at the bottom of the Arctic claiming it as Russian territory Russia was disturbed that Canada the US and others dismissed it as a joke saying that is worthless in the 21st Century. Myself I wasn't as sure as it seems like a scary ratcheting up of the race for future resources and world domination. Well attitudes are changing when recent events are taken into account. I am sure Denmark's joining this venture will simply be dismissed.

It has been noted that Russian nostalgia for past greatness has been seen stretching from the North Pole to the Mediterranean via the Caucasus. First the Russians planted a flag on the bottom of the Arctic. Then they promised to return to the Mediterranean. .

Russia's Mediterranean plans pale in comparison with its audacious foray into the Arctic where they collected soil samples and planted the Russian flag two and a half miles below the sea. The official purpose of this first-ever manned mission was "to prove that the North Pole is an extension of the Russian coastal shelf." Geologists say the region could have big oil, gas and mineral reserves. Massive oil reserves is more like it!

Knowing that the Arctic features prominently in Russian Imperial mythology and the rising desire for Russia to regain prominence as a world power you have to be very concerned about this and Canada now is. Canada's prime minister went on a three-day trip to the Arctic in an effort to assert sovereignty over the region a week after Russia symbolically staked a claim to the North Pole by sending submarines.

Five countries -- Canada, Russia, the United States, Norway and Denmark -- are competing to secure subsurface rights to the Arctic seabed. One study by the U.S. Geological Survey estimates the Arctic has as much as 25 percent of the world's undiscovered oil and gas. PM Harper, who has pledged to spend billions defending Canada's sovereignty over the Arctic, is said "Economic development -- unleashing the resource-based potential of the North, environmental protection -- protecting the unique Northern environment, national sovereignty -- protecting our land, airspace and territorial waters were his priorities.

" In response to the building interest in the shelf Canada's PM Harper announced that six to eight new patrol ships would be built to guard the Northwest Passage sea route in the Arctic, which the United States insists does not belong to Canada. Canadian PM vowed in 2007 to defend Arctic

U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins had criticized Harper's promise to defend the Arctic, calling the Northwest Passage "neutral waters." This is all very troubling as we watch the ratcheting up of tensions around the world as we try to move into the future. The increased militarism around the world is tenuous but throw all the recent developments in with what is shaping up to be a fight over the Arctic and its resources which will only serve to ecologically destroy another very important part of the Ocean's and world's ecosystem in what is increasingly appearing in trouble.

Denmark's interest and claim is also old. The scramble for the Arctic also gathered pace in 2007 as Denmark prepared to challenge Russia's bid for the North Pole and Canada vowed to defend its "sovereignty" over the region's frozen waters. Boy are they getting desperate! Over the next month they searched for evidence that the Lomonosov Ridge, a 1,200-mile, underwater mountain range running close to the Pole, is a geographical extension of Greenland, a Danish possession.
The mission it was felt would strain relations between Denmark and Russia, which claims to have found evidence linking the ridge to Siberia. Both countries will seek adjudication from a United Nations commission in the next few years that could award a large swathe of Arctic territory to the country with the most compelling case. The scramble for the arctic The time is coming closer!

With the ice melting all of a sudden everyone has a claim to the land below and we are racing to destroy the Arctic. It sickens me to hear lies like China, India, and the rest of them saying they just want a faster route of travel and want to protect peace and the environment. Russia and Canada are not the only ones who have long voiced the willingness to fight for what they believe is theirs. That Arctic Council is a joke and will stop none of the impending destruct but merely enlarge the amount of Countries allowed to do it.

The battle for the Arctic takes shape

The Arctic Is Melting, So The U.S. Military Has Another Place It Has To Defend:  The Strategy opens by saying the Arctic is at a “strategic inflection point” because “its ice cap is diminishing more rapidly than projected.” This brings increasing “human activity, driven by economic opportunity” that ranges from shipping and fishing to fossil fuel extraction and tourism.

Most experts believe there will be no Arctic sea ice in the summer by 2030. Secretary Hagel said in his speech that the U.S. “will remain prepared to detect, deter, prevent and defeat threats to our homeland and we will continue to exercise U.S. sovereignty in and around Alaska.

Putin ramps up the world's fight for the Arctic

Putin said the Russian military has been restoring a Soviet-era military base on the New Siberian Islands that was shut down after the Soviet collapse. He added that the facility is key for protecting shipping routes that link Europe with the Pacific region across the Arctic Ocean.

Last month, a Russian navy squadron led by the flagship of Russia's Northern Fleet, nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great, visited the archipelago, which occupies a strategic position on the Arctic shipping route. Putin said that the military has already re-established a permanent garrison there and will restore an airfield and other facilities.China granted observer status in Arctic Council: The meeting also witnessed the signing of Kiruna Declearation, which recognized "the importance of maintaining peace, stability and constructive cooperation in the Arctic," and "the importance of the sustainable use of resources, economic development and environmental protection."

Scientists say enough water to fill earths oceans 3 times deep in the earth, that should scare the hell out of everyone

Scientists say there is lots and lots of water trapped deep in the Earth:Scientists have long theorized a mass of hidden water was somewhere below, but a group of geologists from Northwestern University are the first to offer evidence. The geologists found the water while studying a vast stretch of Earth's mantle called the transition zone. The vast underground region extends across much of North America.

The water, enough to fill the oceans three times over, is hiding in a mineral called ringwoodite some 400 miles beneath Earth's crust. "Geological processes on the Earth's surface, such as earthquakes or erupting volcanoes, are an expression of what is going on inside the Earth, out of our sight," Jacobsen said.

This scares the hell out  of me. Look what we have done to absolutely everything we lay our hands on. The core of the planet? Look at what we have done to the air and land. Look what we have done to the earth with fracking and our lust for energy. Will the absolute destruction wrought by Fracking matter in the end?

Look at the death and destruction we have wrought on our oceans the very source of our life.We are killing ourselves not just the ocean, our food supply, and the planet

Now the world is fighting to destroy what is left of the Arctic which many feel is the source of many of our future problems not to speak of all the on going war and future wars to come. The world is fighting to destroy the Arctic

I am scared to death knowing that the idiots in charge of us now know that near the center of the earth is more fresh water than we can use. What the hell are they going to do to get at it?

My God! There is no end until they totally use this planet up and destroy man and the planet.

Occupy the World

The Arab spring gave birth to the occupy movement which became "occupy the world"

The Occupy Wall Street movement has become a global phenomenon, spreading to more than 1,000 cities in the United States and at least 92 countries worldwide: Occupy Wall Street, a leaderless protest movement that started in New York City, has quickly become a global phenomenon. On Sept. 17, men and women of varied backgrounds and beliefs organized at New York City's Zuccotti Park in nonviolent protest.

The protestors say they represent the 99 percent and have gathered in protest with the goal of ending the greed and corruption amongst the wealthiest 1 percent of America. "This is a populist movement," New York occupier, Tony Smith, told Digital Journal. "We don't know why everyone is out of work, but the stratification between the rich and poor has grown to an alarming level, and people in poverty aren't going to stand for it much longer."

First I really have to say that I am impressed that some here are finally standing up to the corporatocracy that rules and governs this country. I am also dismayed to see them degraded as ilk and rabble rousing nay Sayers. They are speaking the truth whoever they may be and once again the truth is going to be discounted and if by force as necessary so a hidden selfish agenda can be followed.

With that said I watched the Arab spring countries thinking that we should be doing the same thing here and for exactly the same reasons. Less so in some degrees and more so in others! I was wondering what it would take to get us in the streets and now I know. However, I remember when this started on wall street a protester was interviewed and he nailed it when he said this is our Arab spring.

The movement has become a global phenomenon, spreading to more than 1,000 cities in the United States and at least 92 countries worldwide but it started with the Arab spring. The Arab spring gave birth to the occupy movement which became "occupy the world" I believe it will continue to grow unless another war possibly a world war intervenes and side tracks this movement one way or the other.

Of course the US is taking credit for starting this but as we know it was the Arab spring countries. It is however right that the US pick up the gauntlet and lead the way.

we the average citizens of every country regardless of ethnicity are fighting for the same thing. We are all fighting because we are being lied to , controlled, we have no jobs, no food, we have no future. In Yemen, Syria, and Bahrain they are being stepped on and killed.

They are protesting in Europe for the same reasons. The entire world is feeling the pinch even China who has been taking measures against its citizens for months. China as you can surmise is starting to hurt because its biggest customers the EU and the US are in trouble. I warned years ago for countries to stop wishing for the US demise because today we are all intertwined, the leader goes down we all go down.

What is happening in Europe and the Arab spring countries is now here. The weak always feel the hurt first and we have been pretty weak over the last ten years because of our grotesque governing in the first place. Average citizens of the world have hit the breaking point. The Wall street protests have spread to Boston and around the country with promises to get results.

We are all peeved. As our plight worsens at the hands of our grossly inadequate bickering mis-government even in the US the breaking point in many instances has been hit. The worlds Governments and the worlds citizens will pay the price. Anarchy is our future.

In pictures: Wall Street austerity and economic protests go global:

In pictures: Worldwide protests

Wall Street sit-in protest goes global: Protesters worldwide geared up for a cry of rage on Saturday against bankers, financiers and politicians they accuse of ruining global economies and condemning millions to poverty and hardship through greed.
Galvanized by the past month's Occupy Wall Street movement, the global protest began on a sunny spring day in New Zealand and is due to ripple round the world to Alaska via Frankfurt, London, Washington and New York.

Many Europeans spent Saturday showing solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York, by answering the call for a day of protests against economic injustice and government cuts. In the European Union’s capital Brussels, around 7,000 people demonstrated against austerity measures and corporate greed. Some of them were outside a branch of Dexia, the Belgian-French financial institution that recently received a four billion euro bailout.

Protesters also gathered in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol plaza, a site significant for Spain’s Indignados, whose aims were also being supported through worldwide protests on Saturday. At the height of the Indignado campaign, the plaza was a campsite for demonstrators calling for the government to deal with unemployment and stop welfare cuts.

Live: Battle for tripoli plus Saif is free and vows Rebels led into a trap and will be destroyed

Live: Battle for Tripoli Gaddafi compound under attack right now!

To see Seif, who has become as hated as his father during the six-month conflict back on the streets a free men, was a great shock for the rebels. To see him on TV footage on the international media boasting to foreign journalists there that his father’s government was still “in control” was something nobody could have envisaged. He was full of himself as he said the regime had lured the rebels into a trap. It raised significant questions about the credibility of rebel leaders. It was not clear whether Seif had been in rebel custody and escaped, or was never held at all. His brother, Mohammed, who reportedly was on house arrest was also free, having escaped on Monday. Seif al-Islam showed up at the Hotel, in a convoy of armoured Land Cruisers. In brief comments he said his father and several of his sisters were safe in Tripoli, and that loyal troops had "broken the back" of the rebels who moved into the capital over the weekend.

Gaddafi had me for one convinced of a blood bath and he still make make sure there is one. Some 200 rebels rode into Tripoli's port and marched through the suburbs with Tripoli rebels to give them support. Gaddafi had earlier opened up the armories and issued AK47's to all the residents and anyone who wanted a weapon.

With no resistance rebels advanced quickly and I just heard on the news they have now made it to the center of Tripoli, Green Square where all the pro Gaddafi supporters were rallying to support him. It seems like Rebel efforts to reach the tribes loyal to Gaddafi and encourage them to rebel against Gaddafi or at least not to take up arms in his defense.

It seems to have worked at least up to now. It seems all the citizens have taken their arms and stayed home, the tribes that supported Gaddafi seem to have melted away for now. Rebels were able to rive right into Tripoli and arrest Seif Al-Islam without a fight.Seif who vowed to fight to the death and die on Libyan soil. Hm!

I was just listening to Gaddafi while writing this and he was laughing saying don't worry this is not over. The guy is a madman and has always made me nervous. I would put nothing past him. Months ago he warned of a blood bath with hundreds of thousands being killed. Libyan rebels enter Tripoli and arrest Gaddafi's son

Ghaddafi is not gone yet. His son Khamis is on his way with a Brigade of killers to protect his father and take back Tripoli. It is his threat to kill hundreds of thousands with his plentiful WMD that concerns me.

I remember a couple months back hearing that Gaddafi had issued gas masks to the murderous soldiers that supported hm. Remembering his original statement many thousands will be killed I am afraid he is getting closer to using his cyanide, mustard gas and vast reserves of chemical weapons. I have not heard anything about those weapons nor have I heard anything from the supposed 200,000 soldiers still supporting Gaddafi.

I have to wonder what horrible trick Gaddafi has up his sleeve. His demise seems to be near but you have to be very concerned as to what will come next in Libya. It is not just Libya we have to be concerned with as you know.

It would be nice to see this end with a Democracy but with Libya's many tribes many which supported Gaddafi including his own tribe plus the Islamists some of which have been fighting for the rebels I see a long hell here and combined with what we have done in Iraq and Afghanistan along with the still growing Arab spring and Syria and Iran...

Misrata Libyans now fear chemical weapons are coming next, me too

Moammar Gadhafi's forces used tanks to shell the besieged western town of Misrata on Monday, as rumors fueled fears that the Libyan leader was preparing to use chemical weapons. Hundreds have been killed in Misrata over the past two months as Gadhafi has attempted to seize the only major rebel bastion in the west of Libya

The Libyan government said Sunday that ruler Moammar Gadhafi's son and his three grandchildren died in a NATO air strike, and vowed to retaliate with death to "invaders" in the nation. That was predictable but the rebels better be even more fearful and wary of horrific methods and forms of slaughter being used on them.

This is only going to make him slaughter more people. He and his children will go nowhere, they will have to be killed. He is slaughtering his people and it is a must he be targeted. Anyone around him can not be considered a civilian as they are complicit in the slaughter. Remembering his original statement many thousands will be killed I am afraid he is getting closer to using his cyanide, mustard gas and vast reserves of chemical weapons.

We are getting dragged into a third protracted war with a Muslim country. This is going to work against us. We are also gearing our navy with weapons to deal with the unique threat Iran portrays in the Gulf. We are getting more involved with Syria which will bring Iran on. I am absolutely nonplussed over all this! We are getting dragged into a vicious protracted ground war unless we can target and kill all Gaddafi's and their followers and I do not see that as a possibility.

Gaddafi is right now issuing gas masks to those doing his murdering for him. What choice will we have but to drop a MOAB (mother of all bombs) or a 30,000 pound bunker buster in the middle of his compound designed to dig 7 or 8 stories underground before detonating and take as many of them out as we can. They are not going to relent period. WTF?
