Surge of Afghan Insider Attacks Alarms US as all NATO plans to halt Afghan combat role early

Surge of Afghan Insider Attacks Alarms US, NATO: A growing number of attacks by Afghan troops on U.S. and NATO forces is raising questions as Afghanistan prepares to take more responsibility for security.

NATO said Wednesday a man wearing an Afghan army uniform shot and killed a coalition service member in southern Afghanistan, the same day U.S. lawmakers demanded better screening to prevent so-called insider attacks.
No Kidding!

We have been talking about the increasing killings of our trainers by so called Rogues for years now. Here

There have now been 52 attacks in the last 6 years by so called "Rogue" soldiers and members of the police force. We have to hurry up and get out of there. We have finally realized the Taliban is going to take over the Government and everything else as they should, it is their country. If the people do not like it they should rise up. I just absolutely abhor so called rogue soldiers killing their trainers. I wish they would cooperate and wait for us to leave as we better be doing. What the hell is wrong with us? These killings will only increase if we leave our trainers hanging out to dry. WTF? Some of these are my sons!

US plans to halt Afghan combat role early, Kabul surprised: The United States, which led the NATO invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, has previously said it would withdraw most combat troops by the end of 2014. Panetta said the U.S. troops would shift next year to a supporting role, training and advising Afghan troops who would take charge of a country that has been at war for more than three decades.

The secretary general of NATO echoed Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta on Thursday and said that the United States and its allies would step back from a combat role in Afghanistan in mid-2013, leaving Afghan forces in the lead to defend their own country.

A faster end to U.S. combat in Afghanistan could give President Barack Obama an election-year lift. It may also demoralize Afghans who fear a return to the austere rule of the Taliban and hope that reconciliation between all parties would deliver a better alternative.

Panetta Seeks Afghan Combat End in 2013 With France in Line: U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will seek to pull France back in line today and prevent the 50- nation NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan from fracturing by offering a plan to end the coalition’s primary combat role starting in mid-2013.

Attending his second Brussels meeting of NATO defense ministers since taking office in July, Panetta told reporters traveling with him that the coalition would shift primarily to advising Afghan forces by the end of 2013. The decision establishes a milestone for leaders of the North American Treaty Organization, who in Lisbon in 2010 called for transferring security responsibility nationwide to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.

I do not care what they say. If they are training Afghan troops they are in Combat. We must get out altogether, call it a day and do not look back. Karzai has been threatening the US and NATO "the hand that feeds him and made him possible from the beginning even though we have given our blood and Billions of dollars. He will go down instantly and so be it.

Civil war was guaranteed in Afghanistan on day one if there is really a desire to get out from underneath the Taliban and I do not believe there is. The Taliban are indigenous and belong there we do not. Get out and monitor the country from drones as should have been done in the first place. Declare victory and pull out before we join the graveyard of Nations.

What happens after that is not our concern as long as they are no threat to us. I reiterate though it is a waste of time that like Afghanistan Pakistan is largely tribal but they want a central Government and freedom from the Taliban to continue to have their tribal customs and freedoms and are fighting for it! NATO go home! Scale back! Get out! We keep hearing how tough Afghani's are. Prove it! Pakistan has shown what they want and so has Afghanistan. Can't we take a frigging hint?

We keep hearing how we must get to Taliban moderates and Afghan moderates well get with it do it now and let them fight for their country. Moderate tribesmen in parts of militant-ravaged north-west Pakistan are challenging Taliban extremists threatening to overrun their area, in what will develop into a mass resistance movement. That is what Afghanistan must do!

America and NATO must get out! We have been there 10 years, more than twice as long as WW2, now our longest war! If Afghanistan wanted freedom from the Taliban they would already be trained and fighting for it instead of just letting themselves be killed as pawns.

Our soldiers did their job leave now with heads held high not our tails between our legs like in Saigon! Give food and supplies to the Afghans and if they want their freedom they will fight for it like the Pakistani tribes are. We should be helping Pakistan who has proved they want their freedom from Taliban and Sharia law. Don't keep adding more troops this is Afghanistan graveyard of Nations. Cheat history get out now!

This is like trying to help a person that doesn't want help. They only seem to want our money nothing more. And Pakistan? They are no better.

You're right, I happen to believe absolutely that Pakistan is the root of the problem and they want control of Afghanistan as they had in ancient times.
