Afghan Soldier Killed After Firing on NATO Troops: A hollow victory!

: A man in an Afghan military uniform killed three U.S. troops Friday in southern Afghanistan, a day after the United States condemned a suicide bomb attack that left four Americans dead.


For the sixth time in two weeks, a member of Afghanistan's fledgling security forces opened fire on his international trainers today, this time killing two US soldiers. A local Afghan policeman in the far western province of Farah opened fire during the police inauguration ceremony attended by both American and Afghan national forces, shortly after receiving his weapon, USA Today reports. He joined the Afghan Local Police, a group of regional militias backed and trained by NATO, only five days earlier.

The so-called green on blue attacks (for the color of the Afghan and international coalition forces' uniforms) have resulted in the deaths of 36 international soldiers in 2012 alone, according to USA Today (some news outlets reported higher numbers). There were only 11 such attacks in all of 2011 and only five in both 2009 and 2010.


I understand there was three green on blue killings in a week by so called rogue or friendly Afghan forces and three of these soldiers were killed by a senior Afghan leader after he invited the soldiers to dinner then he defected to the Taliban. That makes the following victory even smaller. We have to get the F out and let these scum kill each other, period! These killings are happening so rapidly now I can't keep track of them.

It is the third phase of the transition of military control in the war-torn country and another step towards the withdrawal of 130,000 US-led NATO troops by the end of 2014.

Panetta said the U.S. troops would shift next year to a supporting role, training and advising Afghan troops who would take charge of a country that has been at war for more than three decades.

Attending his second Brussels meeting of NATO defense ministers since taking office in July, Panetta told reporters traveling with him that the coalition would shift primarily to advising Afghan forces by the end of 2013. The decision establishes a milestone for leaders of the North American Treaty Organization, who in Lisbon in 2010 called for transferring security responsibility nationwide to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.

I do not care what they say. If they are training Afghan troops they are in Combat. We must get out altogether, call it a day and do not look back. I reiterate though it is a waste of time that like Afghanistan Pakistan is largely tribal but they want a central Government and freedom from the Taliban to continue to have their tribal customs and freedoms and are fighting for it! NATO go home! Scale back! Get out! We keep hearing how tough Afghani's are. Prove it! Pakistan has shown what they want and so has Afghanistan. Can't we take a frigging hint?

We keep hearing how we must get to Taliban moderates and Afghan moderates well get with it do it now and let them fight for their country. Moderate tribesmen in parts of militant-ravaged north-west Pakistan are challenging Taliban extremists threatening to overrun their area, in what will develop into a mass resistance movement.That is what Afghanistan must do!

America and NATO must get out! We have been there 10 years, more than twice as long as WW2, now our longest war! If Afghanistan wanted freedom from the Taliban they would already be trained and fighting for it instead of just letting themselves be killed as pawns.

Our soldiers did their job leave now with heads held high not our tails between our legs like in Saigon! Give food and supplies to the Afghans and if they want their freedom they will fight for it like the Pakistani tribes are. Kandahar break-out is a real blow for the allies in Afghanistan as hundreds of Taliban escape

This Kandahar break-out is a real blow for the allies in Afghanistan

Monday's break was the second dramatic escape at the prison in three years. In 2008, as many as 1,000 prisoners -- nearly half of them Taliban members -- escaped after militants detonated a truck bomb against the side of the prison compound.

What I want to know is doesn't someone inspect that place? How do you dig a massive hole in the middle of the floor a 1/4 mile long and no one sees it? Come on, I don't care how dangerous they are, restrain them 6 times a day and inspect the premises. Shoot them if they are a threat, we do it to our own people. I am sick of these games what are we stupid?

Some of you know a few of my sons are in and out of there right now out. I was very concerned for my youngest who went directly from Iraq to Afghanistan where he was helping train soldiers. I was more concerned for the people he was training than the radicals out in the field. I had him concerned with not taking an eye off these people and sleep in a secure area with one eye open as men have been killed by so called rogue soldiers while they slept. He made it through this time unscathed. I would like this over before he has to go back again.

My concern now is my career EOD son. He is home and running the EOD school and out of physical harms way at least from the extremists. He like many others takes the many deaths and maiming of his friends in stride. Now he has 20 friends on the wall and has lost count of those with traumatic injuries. The friend helping him PT his troops has what he calls a bouncy leg having lost his own in Afghanistan. A few weeks ago he and friends were at a fund raiser for a gunnery sergeant friend who lost one leg and half of another.

It was touch and go for a month and they ended up having to dig out much of his crotch but last I heard he will live. Last week it was another good friend he trained and was stationed with in South Korea and Germany. He was just fragged in Germany "situation still unknown" He was in the infamous Korengal valley and took shrapnel over 85% of his body.

Due to the fact that he is a big man at 250 pounds he is so far alive. They just took him off the ventilator and he is State side. Our troops are giving up too much. Honor our troops, leave with honor, they did their job. America and NATO must get out! We have been there over 9 years, more than twice as long as WW2, now our longest war!
