Bombers kill 31 at Iraq campaign rally for Shiites:  An al-Qaida breakaway group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, claimed responsibility for the attack at the Industrial Stadium in eastern Baghdad, which drew about 10,000 backers of the Iranian-backed Asaib Ahl al-Haq group.It said on a militant website that the bombings were to avenge what it called the killing of Sunnis and their forced removal from their homes by Shiite militias.

The attack was a stark reminder of the sectarian violence that has plagued Iraq more than two years after U.S. troops ended an eight-year presence that often served as a buffer between the nation's Shiite majority and its Sunni Arab minority. Last year, the death toll in the country climbed to its highest levels since the worst of the sectarian bloodshed between 2006 and 2008.

I do not give a damn what anyone says. Bush, Cheney, and their Democratization program in an already historically unstable middle east set all of this and more in motion!

The hell on earth Bush created for Iraqi’s will engulf the entire Middle East before it encompasses the entire world if we can not contain it. Under Bush we broke a long standing tradition of not adding fuel to the Middle East fire by supplying weapons. We are now, including advanced weaponry and missile defence systems. The Middle East breakdown Bush started armed and funded is continuing under Obama. This up to now proxy war in the middle east is under way.

You know I firmly believe and have said so a million times by now that since 9/11 everything was construed to allow Bush to gain the power he needed to prosecute his new order not just in the Middle East but on the entire world! He diverted from Afghanistan to get back into the Middle East with the goal of setting up a larger safety zone for Israel and going after Iran. Both will fail! It has long been my contention that coming to Israel's aid once they attack Iran will be our in to Iran but with Iran, the Gulf, Syria, and everything else who knows what will happen first.

We must contain this to the middle east and keep it from turning into WW3. This must be a middle east fight and problem or the entire world is in dire trouble and we have too much already as we try to move successfully through the 21st century. In Syria, some brace for the next war

 In Syria, some brace for the next war: As this remote corner of northeastern Syria fast slides out of government control, many Syrians are bracing for what they fear will be another war, between the relatively moderate fighters who first took up arms against the government and the Islamist extremists who emerged more recently with the muscle and firepower to drive the rebel advance. 

The capture last month of the city of Raqqah, Syria’s first provincial capital to fall under opposition control, consolidated the gains of an assortment of mostly Islamist-inclined groups across three northeastern provinces. Forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad cling to just a tiny number of scattered bases and could be ejected anytime.

I hate to tell them but it is here and they are fighting it now. It will get much worse as it spreads throughout the middle east even if they take a break and gang up on Israel the Sunni and Shiite are in for a fight to the finish.

 Al Nusra Front pledge allegiance to Zawahiri: The leader of Syria's Al Nusra front has pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda boss Ayman al-Zawahiri in an audio message on Wednesday, whilst distancing the group from claims they had merged with Al Qaeda in Iraq, AFP reported. "The sons of Al-Nusra Front pledge allegiance to Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri," Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani said in the message.

Influx of Iraqi Shiites to Syria Widens: Militant Sunnis from Iraq have been going to Syria to fight against President Bashar al-Assad for months. Now Iraqi Shiites are joining the battle in increasing numbers, but on the government’s side, transplanting Iraq’s explosive sectarian conflict to a civil war that is increasingly fueled by religious rivalry.

Some Iraqi Shiites are traveling to Tehran first, where the Iranian government, Syria’s chief regional ally, is flying them to Damascus, Syria’s capital. Others take tour buses from the Shiite holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on the pretext of making a pilgrimage to an important Shiite shrine in Damascus that for months has been protected by armed Iraqis.

It absolutely will not end with the demise of Assad, this is just beginning. It will continue without the direction of Assad. Maybe the Alawite's may no longer be leading it against the Sunni majority and Christian minority but it will continue. Only now the Sunni may be leading it against the Alawite's who will continue to be armed and reinforced by Iran. The Russians will meanwhile have gone nowhere and the big unknown is the large Chinese military contingency in the area.

Under Bush we broke a long standing tradition of not adding fuel to the Middle East fire by supplying weapons. We are now, including advanced weaponry and missile defense systems. The Middle East breakdown Bush started armed and funded is continuing under Obama. This up to now proxy war in the middle east is under way.

You know I firmly believe and have said so a million times by now that since 9/11 everything was construed to allow Bush to gain the power he needed to prosecute his new order not just in the Middle East but on the entire world! He diverted from Afghanistan to get back into the Middle East with the goal of setting up a larger safety zone for Israel and going after Iran. Both will fail! Assad Issues a Worldwide Plea: Judging by the latest it is too late for Syria

 

*Top pro-Assad cleric killed in Damascus mosque bombing - reports: “Senior cleric Dr. Mohammed Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti was martyred in a terrorist suicide attack at the Iman Mosque in Mazraa in Damascus,” the channel reported, adding that there were reports of more dead and wounded. The Syrian health ministry said the bombing killed 42 people and wounded 84.

 

*Assad Issues a Worldwide Plea as a Top Syrian General Defects: The rebels’ top military commander again called for members of the armed forces to join the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, now entering its third year.

 

But there were no reports of unusually widespread or decisive defections in response to a video address in English and Arabic released Friday by Gen. Salim Idris, who defected last July and is now the leader of the Free Syrian Army’s unified military command. Instead, Mr. Assad’s government went on the political offensive, calling on Brazil, China, India and other developing powers to help stop the Syrian conflict and find a political solution to the uprising.

* A brigadier general and about 20 soldiers defected from the Syrian army in two separate incidents on Saturday: “It is not possible for anyone to accept any of the ideas of this regime unless they have achieved special interests,” he said in the video. There was no comment about the defection on Syrian state news outlets. Defection of high-ranking military and political figures has slowed in past months. 

But a study by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) published this week estimated that Assad’s forces, thought to be more than 300,000-strong at the start of the uprising two years ago, were now at a much lower effective strength and were likely to diminish further. The IISS said that perhaps 50,000 of the Syrian army’s elite troops could be depended on for loyalty. 

* Rebels Seize Air Defense Base in Southern Syria: Fighters with a rebel group active in the south stormed and seized control of the air defense base used by the 38th Division after a 16-day siege, according to a statement posted on websites of the group known as the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade.

The base near the village of Saida is situated along the international highway linking the Syrian capital, Damascus, with Jordan to the south. Fighting in Syria's southern provinces bordering Jordan and Israel has increased sharply in the past few days.

Iran and Turkey Join Syria Peace Envoy in Call for Truce as Syria drops cluster bombs on Maaret al-Numan: rebels: Peace?

  Syrian regime warplanes have dropped cluster bombs in sorties against rebels in the northwestern town of Maaret al-Numan, the insurgents told AFP on Friday. The rebels showed an AFP correspondent in the battleground Idlib province town debris from one such cluster bomb and dozens of other bomblets that failed to explode on impact.

The devices bore markings in the Cyrillic script used in several Eastern European countries, including Russia -- a key ally of the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
