Militant leaders increasingly being killed off but for who?

Militant leaders on all sides being killed off: The killing added to an impression of increased turbulence for the militant groups harbored in Pakistan’s tribal belt, including Al Qaeda, the Pakistani Taliban and the Haqqani network. Over just two months, one major leader has been arrested, two have been killed in a drone strike, and now a major financier — Mr. Haqqani — has died.

The first major shot came when American forces detained Latif Mehsud, a senior commander for the Pakistani Taliban, inside Afghanistan. Weeks later, on Nov. 1, a C.I.A. drone strike killed the Pakistani Taliban’s leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, and a top deputy. Now, Mr. Haqqani, a looming figure in a militant network closely allied with the Taliban and Al Qaeda, is dead.

*Pakistan controls Taliban' - Afghan army chief Like the army chief, I firmly believe that if Pakistan gives the word the Afghan war would be over.

I want to hear Pakistan is arresting the connections that have been complicit with the Haqqani's the biggest threat to the US and Afghanistan security. I am interested in the independent Haqqani network "wikipedia"

Jalaluddin Haqqani legendary leader who fought the Soviets and his son, Sirajuddin hate the fact that infidel's are on their land and of course have openly vowed to attack and kill as many as possible until we leave. They have been the ones behind all the attacks on bases and government buildings and have admitted it.

The Pakistani Government dismisses all the recent deaths as normal inter tribal rivalry in the tribal belt along the Afghan Pakistan border in anticipation of the Americans leaving. I happen to believe the Pakistan Government has known all along where they all are and are themselves killing them off to hopefully have peace at last when we leave.

I just want the top 2 Haqqani's killed. I wish we would quickly kill the two head Haqqani's, both Jalaluddin and Sirajuddin and leave the rest to Pakistan as our invasion of their country even to kill Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters who were known killers of NATO forces may be the straw that broke the camels back.

People in Pakistan are increasingly marching to have the drone attacks stopped. Fine! If you want the drones stopped then stop the Haqqani's. We know someone there can kill or stop them at will.

Anyway you look at it we are viewed as temporary and the violent convoluted backstabbing tribal relationships will always be a way of life in the border area especially. We can only be very concerned how this is going to turn out between NATO, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. It won't be translucent or good!

At this point I want to say our soldiers have done their job let them come home as scheduled if not sooner with their heads held high. They have done a hell of a job for their country.

Hakimullah Mehsud Pakistani Taliban leader dead now kill the Haqanni's

Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud (C) sits with other millitants in South Waziristan October 4, 2009 in this video grab taken from footage released October 5, 2009. REUTERS/Reuters TV

* Taliban chief killed in drone strike: In May, a drone strike killed Mehsud's second-in-command, and one of his most trusted lieutenants was captured in Afghanistan last month."Among the dead, who are in large numbers, are Hakimullah's personal bodyguard Tariq Mehsud and his driver Abdullah Mehsud, two of his closest people," said one intelligence source.

Mehsud was killed after attending a gathering of 25 Taliban leaders gathering to discuss the government's offer of talks, they said. "Hakimullah Mehsud was a very controversial figure and he had very tough demands," he said. But the strike did not signal the end of the Pakistani Taliban, he said. "It's a very decentralized organization. They've lost leaders to drone strikes before."

The number two commander in the Pakistani Taliban has been promoted to leader after its previous chief was killed in a US drone strike.

Khan Said, also known as Sajna, now commands the militant group following a meeting of the supreme ruling council, according to security officials. Said is believed to have masterminded an attack on a jail in north-west Pakistan that freed nearly 400 prisoners in 2012 and an attack on a Pakistani air force base in the same year.

*U.S. Drone Strike in Pakistan Kills at Least 16: The strike was the deadliest since Pakistan’s new prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, took power a month ago and demanded an end to the drone attacks. A local government official said the house was being used by the militants for the past few months.

Jalaluddin Haqqani legendary leader who fought the Soviets and his son, Sirajuddin hate the fact that infidel's are on their land and of course have openly vowed to attack and kill as many as possible until we leave. They have been the ones behind all the attacks on bases ans government buildings and have admitted it.

It is only common sense that they are behind the continuing  spate of attacks on NATO trainers by so called rogue Afghani's. We have essentially brought all segments against us leaving peacefully and forming a Government to their knees with the exception of the Haqqani's who have lost many fighters and top commanders including recently Badruddin another son of Jalaluddin.
This is not enough though. In order to stop the Haqqani network we are going to have to take out the top. We know some in the ISI, military, and Government have been complicit with them since the Soviets wee in Afghanistan so they know where they are. I hope now we have taken out the top.

Haqqani 101: With the death of Osama Bin Laden we were asked what his death would mean for the war in Afghanistan. Like the so called war on terror which includes the Taliban, Al Qaeda of every creed, and extremists of every ilk looking to carry on Osama's vendetta against the west, it will serve to fuel their cause like many other issues. His death should mean just the opposite and it does to all true Muslims.

In searching though I found them to be known rapists and murderers and of course not true Muslims or faithful followers of Muhammad and true Islam. Some of the Haqqani's and commanders have even been captured and held after traveling to Saudi Arabia for the haj and gathering donations for their cause.

The Haqqani's and their legendary stature are holding the so called terrorists force together. Their stature is legendary and hard earned. The Haqqani network and their increasingly foreign fighters have become the main focus after 9 years of fighting. The Haqqani Network's North Waziristan leadership -- usually called the Miram Shah Shura consists of a number of Haqqani family members and closely associated long-serving commanders.

At the top of the network is Sirajuddin Haqqani, who oversees the group's political and military activities and is the main liaison to the Mullah Muhammad Omar led Quetta Shura Taliban, the Taliban's leadership body (named for the capital of Pakistan's Baluchistan province). He is also one of the network's liaisons to Pakistani Taliban figures and AL-Qaeda.

He travels regularly into Afghanistan " or should I say did as he now claims to be based in Afghanistan" to coordinate with field commanders and occasionally to Peshawar and South Waziristan to connect with militants there. Remember Bowe Bergdhal? There are many field commanders in Afghanistan, but turnover is high because many get killed or captured. The most prominent is Mullah Sangin, who is believed to be holding Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl a captured U.S. soldier and Zakim Shah the movement's shadow governor of Khost province.

Jalaluddin Haqqani legendary leader who fought the Soviets and his son, Sirajuddin who directs operations are increasingly the targets of drones and now manned NATO aircraft in Pakistan as the Pakistani's have been leery to go in the area for whatever reason. Many are being killed, I heard over 80 in a week with no civilian casualties.

I would hate to see the Haqqani network unite with Pakistan " who they once had close ties with particularly the ISI", against us as Pakistan is still furious and rightly so though it may be a ploy to placate civilians. I wish we would just come home. I do not want to see the scenario I discussed many times and that is taking on Pakistan from the Gulf and don't forget Iran!

The Haqqani's seem true to Mullah Omar who wants us out of Afghanistan and want their independent Afghanistan. Pakistan has proven they do not want a free and independent Afghanistan but want to control it. At this point I want to say our soldiers have done their job let them come home as scheduled if not sooner. Pakistan 'to free top Taliban leader, 1 of 4 founders

                                                                                                           File photo Taliban fighters

Pakistan 'to free top Taliban leader': Mullah Baradar is regarded as a a linchpin of the Taliban's insurgency. "In principle, we have agreed to release him. The timing is being discussed. It should be very soon... I think within this month," Sartaj Aziz, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's adviser on foreign affairs, told Reuters.

But Mr Aziz said that Mullah Baradar would not be handed over to Afghanistan directly as some in Kabul wanted. He said that instead he would be released in Pakistan. Mullah Baradar is one of the four men who founded the Taliban movement in Afghanistan in 1994. He went on to become a linchpin of the insurgency after the Taliban were toppled by the US-led invasion in 2001. This might work but I wouldn't count on it!

Osama bin Laden raid: top 10 discoveries as Mobile phone links Pakistan's ISI to Osama bin Laden courier

Mobile phone links Pakistan's ISI to Osama bin Laden courier: a Brigadier General is held as suspected Islamist and 4 more Officers questioned ?

Mobile phone links Pakistan's ISI to Osama bin Laden courier: a mobile phone recovered during the US raid last month on Osama bin Laden's hideout shows the al-Qaeda leader's closest courier regularly communicated with commanders of a terrorist group linked to Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency, according to American officials.

You know that little tidbit would not have come to light if Pakistan had found that cell phone first. Finding this out is a guarantee that Obama did the right thing by sneaking in unawares to the ISI. For a fact, Osama would have been warned and would have escaped.

Osama bin Laden raid: top 10 discoveries

Brigadier held as suspected Islamist: Major General Athar Abbas, the army spokesman, said Brigadier Ali Khan was believed to be linked to Hizb-ul-Tahrir, an organization that is campaigning for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.

Pakistan army questions 4 more officers: The Pakistan army says it is questioning four more officers about suspected links with a banned extremist group. The development comes a day after the army said it detained Brig. Ali Khan for suspected ties to Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which has called for officers in the Pakistan army to oust ...

I guess Hizb-ut-Tahrir fell out of favor but I want to hear Pakistan is arresting the connections that have been complicit with the Haqqani's the biggest threat to the US and Afghanistan security. I am interested in the independent Haqqani network "wikipedia"

I remember a week or so ago Pakistan finally admitted publicly that they had rats "informers" in the ISI "the military's interservice intelligence Agency so stupid me thought they were doing a bit of house cleaning. I should have known the connection to terrorism commanders and the Officers so far questioned came from the US.

Call records also revealed UBL had called a number of South Waziristan-based commanders from the militant group Harakat-ul-Mujahideen. We knew some in the ISI were complicit even before 9/11. I thought for sure Pakistan would start cooperating after Bin Laden was killed if only for their own good. Man are we in trouble.
