UN declares south Somalia famine and Al Shabab helped so we reward Al Shabab by feeding them to kill another day as Al Shabab denies any famine

UN declares south Somalia famine: Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated group which controls large swathes of south and central Somalia, had imposed a ban on foreign aid agencies in its territories in 2009, but has recently allowed limited access. An estimated 10 million people have been affected in East Africa by the worst drought in more than half a century. More than 166,000 desperate Somalis are estimated to have fled their country to neighboring Kenya or Ethiopia. Come on get real!

Al-Shabab says aid group ban remains in effect: Islamist rebel movement rejects UN's famine claims and will not allow certain support groups into drought-hit Somalia. They just want to kill those people and get them out of their way. WTF?

Access to Al-Shabab-Dominated Somalia Difficult: The militants have accused foreign workers of being spies, have kidnapped some, and even killed some others. They have routinely diverted food and other supplies meant for starving Somalis into their own hands, leaving many foreign donors unwilling to send more aid.

UNICEF has been operating successfully in this area since 1972. Can anyone in their right mind not realize UNICEF has been feeding and keeping Al Shabab alive to kill another day?

Recently UNICEF has heralded a successful large air drop of much needed food and supplies in a Al Shabab held town and they are pretty pleased with themselves. They can't possibly think Al Shabab is not going to keep this for themselves. They are starving too. Why do you think they are allowing the world to feed them and the people are in famine.

Those people are in serious trouble. Come on, 3.7 million people are starving and in need of serious humanitarian aid compliments of Al Shabab who is starving themselves and we trust their guarantee to let the supplies in and give it to the people. Come on man! If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you. This is Al Shabab they make the Taliban and other Al Qaeda look like school kids.

The Somali Government is running out of time

Of course we do not want to get involved in Somalia but what do we do? Pakistan learned first hand the folly of trying the course of appeasement as has Afghanistan and all the rest of the world. With our success in squeezing them in Pakistan and Afghanistan they are moving to Somalia to a new Jihad. Now they have stopped fighting each other long enough to bring down the Government as destruction of the western installed Government and the installation of strict Sharia law is top priority. We know what that means! Somalia "hopefully not in addition to current fronts" but it will be the next front in the so called war on terror along with Yemen. Gulf of Aden the next front in the war on terror!

There's a government in Somalia? You could have fooled me. They are what Afghanistan once was only Afghanistan now has a recognized crime head in Karzi and company.

Here's a bit of info from an east African friend who lived in the region for some years before fleeing to America. The whole region was very peaceful for many years until Saudi extremists came into the area and started stirring things up. Well funded they started to promote their brand of islam on the local population and governments. And you know what happens when an 'us against them' mentality develops. And from what I gather from my African friend none of this is anything new. It's been going on for decades. If it isn't war then it's draught that kills many of them and yet they survive none the less.

Not sanctioned by Al Shabab the leading extremists but actually something called that, that I think the UN or US imposed.

wiki answer: First comes first, for all who think Somalia does not have a government, well... IT DOES!

They have a parliament and a president. There is about 20 members in the parliament and one president. It is a democracy just like the U.S. but different in some cases.

The reason why most of it is in poverty is because of two reasons, the people there are very confused and don't know what to do in the crossfire of tribes, clans, and neighboring countries. All in all, Somalia does have a government with a new president of 2009, Sheikh Shariff. He even was called the Obama of Africa, let's see what he can do for this country.

Somalia has this government, but it isn't in control of most of Somalia. They are trying to get rid of the extremist militant group, al-Shabaab, but haven't had any sucess yet.
