Philippines-US stage naval drills: The Philippines and the US have begun 11 days of joint naval exercises amid growing tensions with Beijing over disputed waters in the South China Sea.
China on Wednesday reiterated that it has “indisputable sovereignty” over islands in the South China Sea after the United States pledged to help the Philippines, which has its own claims in the area.
Vietnam and the United States are to hold joint naval activities next month but they were long-planned and are unconnected to regional tensions in the South China Sea, the US Navy said Thursday.
This has been ratcheting up for months ever since the incident between China and the Japanese fishing boat. Despite assurances from some not to worry I am over reacting. In recent weeks, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan and more have all voiced concerns or made formal complaints over Chinese nautical movements.
We must maintain as much of the old world balance and order as we can to maintain a balance as we try to move progressively and successfully through the 21st century! I know of China and Japan's past, I know of the still ongoing Island disputes, the disagreement over natural gas and oil in another area of the East China Sea, I also remember that with China's economic clout rising she took the number 3 seat on the world bank and we talk constantly that China is taking the leading role in Asia and Asia relations.
Being in a superior position puts one in a unique position of power and that power must be handled gracefully, with humility, responsibly, and not abused. That is something I taught all my sons and America under Bush did a lousy job of handling.
I am a little worried that China too is getting a little too heavy handed and abusive with her new position of power and beginning to take what she wants instead of being content with what she has which is what I constantly lecture has to be the case if we are to have a future. The time when man and the planet could handle war and colonialism is over, period or else!
We are Taiwan's, the Philippines, and Japan's protectors and now Vietnam's. Vietnam is no real threat to China so what is up here? As China flex's their military muscles in the area we are not supposed to worry. Just what are we supposed to think they are going to do with their advanced weaponry, missiles, stealth aircraft, aircraft carriers and the like.
Their threats are going to become more ominous until they cannot be ignored and it is too late. We have been here before. The world was not supposed to worry as Hitler built his arsenal and we know how that turned out.

Mornin Jim ... and Thanx for the interesting link. Interesting because I frankly dont understand what al China has been up to as far as intell spying etc, at first just thinking they are concerned over us and our mass investment asociate's they have opened up to. But back a year or more ago I done a posting on China's intrusion detection software, as well as suspected spying, going through American's luggage while they were attending the Olympic's at their hotel room's, etc. What truth to the rumaging through luggage? I dont know, I am going on hearsay and report's, cant confirm it one way or the other. You know, China has one Hell of a history and legacy, a surviving empire for centuries ... somewhat remarkable, I am sure they are very culturally connected to such, perhap's even seperatist's to a degree. I know that decade's long battle from westerner's to get them and India to be friend's and the forming of the new market's, etc. Their action's though in cases like this somewhat confuse me ... I mean ... we are on the verge of making history as far as partner's. Although I realize their skepticism of too much western involvement and investment's, after all, look at our track record ... but they need it, and a young Chinese technocracy has new idea's of their own, I just believe thaty old school communism as we knew it, is over through this, the masses had a taste of the forbidden fruit's of the west and like what they tasted. I like to try to maintain good relation's with this country, because I also see them as a future innovative hub and just good business, I dont know why this military maneuvering though(?) BTW ... my wife is originally from the Phillippines by birth. I mentioned to you about her living in Iran during the revolution (late 70's) and perhap's Saudi Arabia as well ... but that was because she was working what's called "gvmnt to gvmnt", basically she was a babysitter for a Texas businessman and his wife, that was set up in Iran as well as Saudi Arabia at a time as a businessman ... who was CIA, enough on that though. Actually I met her on a bus while visiting my mom in NYC (Brooklyn/ Flatbush), long story, but after month's of phone chat's, invited her to Texas to visit, and the CIA guy she once worked for retired and also had a home anout 120 miles east of Dallas, and she also had friend's that lived in Arlington (Dallas suburb)
You can confirm that RC! China steals everything, they watch everything, spy on everything and steal what they can. You don't have the technology and your enemy does you steal what you can any way you can, it is called catch up.

That is how a country without the technology regardless of how low to take a quantum leap and of course dent everything because they figured it out themselves. Yeah right!

You know as far as China goes they want the natural resources. They want us the F out of Asia so they can dominate and take what they want.
Russia is trying to retake the Kuril's from Japan because of the resources. It is all about moving through the 21st century successful and hopefully on top.
Actually Jim long ago I read up a lil on China's long history of everything from stealing to smuggling, etc ... that goes back centuries.
