US-Japan military exercises, what do you think about this?

US-Japan military exercises begin

The truth already came out about China who has long warned about our navy in the seas near their coast. Particularly as they flex their increasing military might in the region. They are arming and allowing North Korea to at least instigate a very dangerous war. They do not want millions of refugees flooding China and that is the least of it! China issues warning ahead of U.S.-SouthSEOUL (Reuters) - China warned on Friday against military acts near its coastline ahead of U.S.-South Korean naval exercises that North Korea, days after shelling a South Korean island, said risked pushing the region toward war.

Now Japan is having joint exercises in their waters and rightly so! The joint military exercises - codenamed Keen Sword - are being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the US-Japan alliance. They are intended to be a show of solidarity between the Pacific allies at a time of heightened tension in the region, says the BBC's Roland Buerk in Tokyo. You remember China's recent muscle flexing with military armada's off Okinawa as they express interest in lost Islands and mineral interests below disputed waters.

As a result the drills were planned well before North Korea shelled the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong last month, killing two marines and two civilians, however they come just days after the United States and South Korea carried out their own joint military exercises, putting on a show of force in the Yellow Sea.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said North Korea remained "an immediate threat to the region around it, particularly to South Korea and Japan". North Korea also posed "a medium-term threat, should it collapse, to China", she said. Beijing has criticized the maneuvers and called for more talks with Pyongyang, saying it is better to negotiate than "brandish weapons".

I have a lot of thoughts about this! Hillary is right and Beijing is right. Again however, Beijing has been using North Korea to belligerence in order to keep us off their door step. They have also for as long while been abusing their increasing financial and military strength. Yes in the past we too did it but that time must be over if we are to move successfully through the 21st century.

Wiki leaks at least has let it be known that China would accept a unified Korea as long as we were not there. That will never happen as I am sure I am not the only one that believes China would take advantage of that and pre planned or not that is why exercises with South Korea and Japan were necessary. China can blame themselves!

The recent incident of North Korea firing on South Korea's island and civilians and killing 2 soldiers after a recent visit from the Kim's shows me China is pulling the strings and will not allow there to be peace between the Korea's. This might be just what China is instigating as Japan Calls For Attack On North Korea, Tensions Mount After Shelling and South Korea's military is on crisis status.

A while ago I was hoping Kim Jong Il was paving the way for his son to take over and I still think so but am very concerned as to what that entails and China's real role here as her goal seems to be to keep Democracy off her doorstep and the Kim regime in power because they will remain a puppet whose strings China can pull.

Kim Jong Il said he was committed to establishing "a lasting peace system" on the Korean peninsula and to making it nuclear-free "through dialogue and negotiations" a lasting peace system, what is that? donations of food and supplies from us while he maintains his 7 million man army for China and continues to toy with advanced weapons and starve its people?

In the end I don't care what they say. This is a confrontation long in the works. MacArthur was right wanting to go right through North Korea then China back than because it would eventually have to be done. There is a lot behind the scenes to be concerned with here and yes China is our banker but they are over stepping their boundaries. We owe them trillions but with Russia's cooperation we can come out on top here. I fully expect we would and in the end being victors we would cancel our debt to China!

I don't see China's concerns as those of a belligerent state. One must remember how China was carved up by the Western powers, and then beaten nearly to death by Japan. Given that China is about 5,000 years old as a civilization, those events are recent history to them.

I expect that the Chinese intend to level the playing field near them as much as they possibly can, but I wouldn't expect them to do more than that, militarily. They intend to whip us economically, and they probably will.

JR our future is so tenuous I just wish at least one of the big three would realize that like it or not we must be happy with what we have or we are not going to survive through the 21st century period!

I think they already have JR. We owe them how many trillion?

Hard to say about this situation as China Japan and Korea have had shaky relations for many years.

At this point they basically spank us like an errant child and tell us to keep in line but I just do not like the way they are acting in every regard or the way we are responding.

I am not sure I follow the logic of your conclusion. When you say "with Russia's cooperation ... we would and in the end being victors we would cancel our debt to China", are you referring to military action or to some political maneuvering? I guess my initial confusion is "with Russia's cooperation", because the way I see it Russia has already chosen sides and the USA isn't looking too good. I am more worried that Russia and China will join up to ensure that America falls, which judging from the internal Russian rhetoric I have been hearing lately doesn't seem too far off.

Hi Zhann! I use to think like you but under Medvedev and Obama I see us coming together as Medvedev knows both our futures depends on us coming together and if we must, to me that means confronting China hopefully Politically but militarily if it comes to that.

interestingly enough, I have been getting a much different reading from Medvedev. I have close contacts in Russia, and much of the internal rhetoric is still geared negatively towards the Dollar. Many hold the Dollar in deep disregard, and blame America for this financial crisis. Much of the Russian press I have read has led me to believe that their Chinese ties are strengthening, while their US ties are weakening.

Now, I am not saying that I am right and you are wrong, I am merely pointing out the impression that I have been getting recently.

Zhann I only know what Obama and Medvedev have been saying and the way China has been acting. All bets are off is Putin gets back in as he wants.
