Teachers with Guns? All I see is child molestation at gunpoint. What about you?

In the wake of school shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania during the last two weeks, a Wisconsin state legislator said he plans to introduce legislation that would allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons. This might work in Israel and Thailand but?

Rep. Frank Lasee, R-Bellevue, said Wednesday that, while his idea may not be politically correct, it has worked effectively in other countries.
“To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table,” he said. “Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin.” No way!
Lasee stressed that the measure would hinge on school staff members getting strict training on the use of the weapons.
But Pete Pochowski, director of school safety for Milwaukee Public Schools, expressed opposition to the proposal.

“Statistically, the safest place for a child to be is in school,” Pochowski aid . “We have problems in our schools, but not to the point where we need to arm our teachers and principals.”
Children in countries such as Israel and Thailand are far more vulnerable to daily violence than students in America, he said.
“In the country we live in, we have a lot of freedom,” Pochowski said, “and we have to expose ourselves to some danger to keep that.”

That includes our teachers sometimes. But I have to agree with this! It figures this ridiculous idea comes from the mouth of a Repub! Think about it! With a rash of teachers male and female, molesting students and also being prone to acting irrationally, can we possibly think we want them to have a gun? Yep, molestation at gunpoint. That’s a good idea, sure . Wake up, this is America 2006!

As a retired teacher let me say that arming my peers or even my former supervisors (administrators) is an idea that can only be seriously entertained by a lunatic.

There are campus POLICE who are professionally trained in carrying and using fire arms. They just cost more than unarmed school security guards.

I happen to agree whoeheartedly!
this is the most recent on this!
MADISON, Wis. — A state lawmaker, worried about a recent string of deadly school shootings, suggested arming teachers, principals and other school personnel as a safety measure and a deterrent.

It might not be politically correct, but it has worked effectively in other countries, Republican Rep. Frank Lasee said Wednesday.

"To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table,"he said."Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin."

In Thailand, where officials have been waging a bloody fight with Muslim separatists for the last two years, some teachers carry weapons for self defense as they are viewed as part of the government. In Israel, teachers are not allowed to carry weapons in the school, but security guards at the entrances are armed.

Lasee plans on introducing legislation that would allow school personnel to carry concealed weapons. He stressed that it would hinge on school staff members getting strict training on the use of the weapons, and he acknowledged he would have to work around a federal law that bans guns on school grounds.

The director of school safety for Milwaukee Public Schools, Pete Pochowski, opposed the idea.

"Statistically, the safest place for a child to be is in school,"Pochowski said."We have problems in our schools, but not to the point where we need to arm our teachers and principals."

Last week, a 15-year-old Wisconsin student was arrested in the shooting death of Weston Schools Principal John Klang. The criminal complaint said the teen brought guns to school to confront students, teachers and the principal. http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2006Oct05/0,4670,SchoolWeapons,00.html

I think it is one of the stupidest ideas I have heard yet. There's an occasional problem with guns in school so this dummy wants to put them in the classroom all the time where pissed off students can apropriate them and disgruntled teachers can really take control. There are too many possible chaotic problems. i want to check out little bill now!
