United States ramping up to take Iran on in the Gulf, set to cut Billions from budget and make Asia their priority. This can't be real!
Obama unveils strategy for slimmed-down military: President Obama insists the United States will maintain what he calls the best-equipped military in history despite deep and looming defense budget cuts. In a rare appearance in the Pentagon briefing room, Obama has offered the outlines of an overhauled defense strategy.
It is designed to contend with hundreds of billions of dollars in budget cuts and refocus the United States' national security priorities after a decade dominated by the post.-Sept. 11 wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama said the military will be leaner but promises the world that the U.S. will maintain its "military superiority" with fighting forces ready for any threat. The president said the strategy review centered on the military the country needs after the "long wars of the last decade are over."
Israel and US to Stage Major Defense Drill: The Israeli military is gearing up together with U.S. forces for a major missile defense exercise, the Israeli military announced Thursday, as tension between Iran and the international community escalates.
The drill is called "Austere Challenge 12" and is designed to improve defense systems and cooperation between the U.S. and Israeli forces. It follows a 10-day Iranian naval exercise near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Both Israeli and U.S. officials said the exercise would be the largest-ever joint drill by the two countries.
Iran plans new maneuvers in Hormuz Strait in February: Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, naval commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, said the exercises in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz in February would be different from previous exercises, but gave no further details, according to remarks reported by the semi-official Fars news agency. "Today the Islamic Republic of Iran has full domination over the region and controls all movements within it," he said.
Royal Navy sends its mightiest ship to take on the Iranian show of force in the Gulf:
US and Israel to meet Iran's Great Prophet?
Royal Navy sends its mightiest ship to take on the Iranian show of force in the Gulf: Naval commanders believe the deployment of HMS Daring, a Type 45 destroyer, will send a significant message to the Iranians because of the firepower and world-beating technology carried by the warship. Philip Hammond, the Defence Secretary, has publicly warned Iran that any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would be "illegal and unsuccessful".
The Daily Telegraph understands that HMS Daring has been fitted with new technology that will give it the ability to shoot down any missile in Iran's armory. The £1 billion destroyer, which will leave Portsmouth next Wednesday, also carries the world's most sophisticated naval radar, capable of tracking multiple incoming threats from missiles to fighter jets. Daring, with its crew of 190, will transit through the Suez Canal and enter the Gulf later this month to replace the Type 23 frigate currently on station.
US defence strategy puts Asia first: The US on Thursday unveiled a defense strategy that makes Asia-Pacific the center of its new universe, with India as a long-term strategic investment in that region. China, the other emerging power in that region, gets a wary nod as a challenger to be watched for its opaque militaristic goals, and not an ally to be trusted. “We will of necessity rebalance toward the Asia-Pacific region,” said the new defense strategy paper titled Sustaining US Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defense. And India is going to be a partner.
Going back through American history we have never gotten our military size correct between wars including WW1 and WW2. We are preparing to be wrong once again. Tell me what you think? We can't be serious!
