  Texas faces possible shortage of execution drug:  Texas is running out of the drug used to execute prisoners in what has become the most active death penalty state in the country. A spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice released a statement to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday confirming that the state’s remaining supply of pentobarbital “will expire” in September.

 The agency is exploring all options including alternate sources of pentobarbital or an alternate drug for use in the lethal injection process,” spokesman Jason Clark said in the statement.So far this year, Texas has executed 11 inmates...  That is an astronomical amount!

Texas marked a solemn moment in criminal justice, executing its 500th inmate since it resumed carrying out capital punishment in 1982.

Kimberly McCarthy, who was put to death Wednesday evening for the murder of her 71-year-old neighbor, was also the first woman executed in the US in nearly three years. Governor Perry the new Texecutioner and proud of it: Now he qualifies for President?

I was also going to discuss Bush who as Governor of Texas killed legally more Americans than anyone in history. I implore you to read the story at the link of who he killed and the fact that he was known as The Texacutioner It just absolutely amazed me that Bush is known as the biggest serial killer in history with the okaying of killing 154 prisoners as Governor of Texas. Cause of Death listed on their Death Certificates "Homicide" It absolutely stuns me that Bush can do this and still get an invite to speak at Notre Dame.

* Thinking about the fact that Bush killed all those people many veterans and retarded and was still the Popes friend and spoke at Notre Dame I found out why! The catechism use to teach that God had entrusted civil authorities with the power over life and death. Also the Vatican had the Death Penalty on their books until 1969! Those little tidbits pointed out, what is it about Texas penchant with the death penalty? Bush killed almost as many people as Perry and he was elected President and we are still suffering from that turn out with much suffering to come.

In 1997, a mask covering killer Pedro Medina's face burst into flames and shot fire into the air, filling the execution chamber with smoke, witnesses reported.

All States that used the death penalty used lethal injection, and, until recently, most had used a three-drug cocktail: sodium thiopental to render the condemned unconscious, pancuronium bromide to paralyze the prisoner and potassium chloride to stop the heart. They can no longer get their hands on it. What do you think about the death penalty now? It seems like it is now every State that has the death penaty is now discussing killing the way they want. Some are thinking about going back to the electric chair, some another drug concoction, some a firing squad, and some looking into other shaky methods.

In a discussion with a friend there was mentioned As time goes on, I'm finding myself increasingly in the anti-death penalty camp. Not because I'm against putting down serial killers and the like. No, because our civil servants who are charged with upholding justice and the rule of law, are becoming increasing bold in their rejection of said principles. The fish rots from the head, as they say. Washington has become thoroughly corrupt and the corruption is spreading throughout the governmental systems.

When the FBI admits that they are catching terrorists, by the following plan...

1. Hatching a plot.
2. Finding a mentally ill man.
3. Coercing that man into carrying out the plot.
4. Providing money, training and materials to carry out the plot.
5. Then busting the man for trying to carry out the FBI plot.

I am feeling a strong sense of disgust.

Entrapment is a crime. But I guess an FBI agent would justify entrapment by showing me how crime does pay and how he makes hundreds of thousands a year on the taxpayer dime, committing felonies.

I do believe the death penalty is justified as in the case of the Fort Hood shootings and the Jared Loughner shootings where they shoot be put to death immediately with no trial. They should not have a venue to plead their case. Sane or insane they did it wantonly and publicly, that is all that matters. Cases like those aside I am no longer comfortable with the death penalty being justified because of the horror of the crime because we can not be certain we have the right person unless we actually see them do it.

Amnesty reveals global surge in executions with the US alone in the America's

                                               

 Executions rise in 2013, China tops the list   :Executions by beheading, electrocution, firing squad, hanging and lethal injection rose by almost 15 percent in 2013 on the previous year, the organization said in its latest report on the death penalty released Thursday. 

China executed more people than any other country last year. Although Chinese authorities treat official execution statistics as a state secret, Amnesty International estimates thousands are killed under the death penalty every year, more than the rest of the world combined.Excluding China, executions rose to at least 778 last year, up from 682 in 2012. Iran came in second, with at least 369 put to death by the state, followed by Iraq (169), Saudi Arabia (79), and the United States (39).

I've said it before but many of us have a moral problem with the death penalty in light of the many recently highlight cases of those put to death who were railroaded and were innocent.. Plain and simple, it's barbaric. Illinois recently joined the ranks of those outlawing the death penalty aand now Connecticut too! I am glad for the historic drop but why can't the entire US at least use the death penalty only in obvious deserved necessary cases?

China, Iran, North Korea, Yemen, and the United States lead the world in carrying out the most death sentences. Amnesty International: US in top 5 that’s quite the company to be proud of isn't it?

Executions on the Rise Around the World after being in the decline. Look at the guilty countries, there is no wonder

Executions on the Rise Around the World: Only 10% of countries carried out executions last year, but those employing the death penalty are doing so at an alarming rate, a new report says. According to Amnesty International's annual review of death sentences and executions, the number of countries using capital punishment in 2011 was 20, a decrease of more than a third compared to 10 years ago.
Some 18,750 people faced death sentences at the end of 2011, while at least 676 people were executed across the world, the report said. It claimed thousands of people were executed in China in 2011, more than the rest of the world put together. The rights group says it has stopped publishing figures it collects from public sources in China, as "these are likely to grossly underestimate the true number." Chinese authorities could not be immediately reached for comment.

The number of executions carried out around the world jumped last year, largely due to a surge in use of the death penalty in Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Amnesty International said on Tuesday. The rights group said at least 676 people were executed in 20 countries in 2011 compared with 527 executions in 23 countries in 2010, a 28 percent increase. Confirmed executions in the Middle East rose by almost 50 percent last year to 558, it said in an annual report on the death penalty. Methods of execution used around the world included beheading, hanging, lethal injection and shooting.

While we're on the subject of Democracy I wonder why Bush didn't mention Saudi Arabia's nasty habit of be-headings when he was over there begging for more oil? I know Democracies can be different but that doesn't sound Democratic to me! Saudi authorities beheaded an Indonesian maid convicted of killing her employer, the Interior Ministry announced. In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency, the ministry said the maid used a pillow to suffocate her employer Aisha Al Makhaled and then stole her jewelry in the southern province of Asir.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which those convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery are executed in public with a sword. The maid was the second person to be executed that year in the desert kingdom, according to an Associated Press count. ** Saudi Arabia beheaded 137 people last year (2008), up sharply from the 38 in 2006. Man in the middle east they seem to enjoy putting people to death. In the link above you see they often video tape be-headings and they shrug off the be-headings saying it is humane and less painful than other methods. Most of the deaths were attributed to 4 countries, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran and North Africa. Think about this. When you look at what is going on around the world and certainly North Africa and the middle east, the number of 676 people being executed is laughable.

It must be semantics! I know it is not often hangings or be-headings but what do they call the thousand killed in Africa due too border, tribal, or religious differences? What about Afghanistan where Taliban killings of civilians is a common occurrence? What about Libya? What about Syria and the 10000 civilians that we know about slaughtered "executed" by their Government?

I am sure the numbers in every one of these countries would be increased exponentially if the truth was told. I am sure we are talking hundreds of thousands not 676. Amnesty does not use China's numbers because they are a lie, you can just imagine. Last year we were talking about executions going down. This year we are talking of an increase. I am afraid we should be saying they are sky rocketing and there does not appear to be anything we can do about it. I am also convinced as you may be, that the numbers will rise drastically as conditions in the middle east continue to degenerate as they will.

I don't care whether it's Davis, an African American who steadfastly proclaimed he did not murder Mark MacPhail, a white, off-duty police officer; or Lawrence Brewer, one of three white assailants convicted in the dragging death of James Byrd who was murdered for being black. Brewer was executed in Texas, the capital-punishment capital, also Wednesday, In fact, Texas has walked 475 people to slaughter since 1976.

The last fifteen death row inmates in Illinois will live out their days in jail cells, instead of dying on a execution gurney, now that capital punishment has officially ended in the state. What are your thoughts on that? The ban took effect on Friday, July 1st But the state Department of Corrections began emptying the death row cells in Pontiac in March. The prisoners have been evaluated and moved to other maximum security facilities throughout Illinois, department spokeswoman Stacey Solano said.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinnz signed into law a ban on the death penalty on March 9, saying it was impossible to fix a system that had wrongly condemned at least 20 innocent men. Illinois death row inmates moved to regular jail cells No kidding!

World shocked by US execution of Troy Davis: Death penalty on decline worldwide, Still the US is in the top 5, what is going on here?

Alabama carries out third US execution in a week: The execution followed two high-profile lethal injections this week in Georgia and Texas. In a case that drew international attention, Troy Davis was put to death in Georgia on Wednesday for the murder of a police officer despite claims by his advocates that he may have been innocent.


World shocked by US execution of Troy Davis: World figures, including Pope Benedict XVI and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, human rights groups and commentators urged the execution to be halted -- but to no avail. On Wednesday Davis was put to death by lethal injection for the 1989 killing of off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail despite doubts being raised over the conviction. 

The execution sparked angry reactions and protests in European capitals -- as well as outrage on social media. "We strongly deplore that the numerous appeals for clemency were not heeded," the French foreign ministry said. "There are still serious doubts about his guilt," said Germany's junior minister for human rights Markus Loening. "An execution is irreversible -- a judicial error can never be repaired."

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles made its decision less than three hours before Samuel David Crowe, 47, was to be executed, according to a spokeswoman for the state's prisons. "After careful and exhaustive consideration of the requests, the board voted to grant clemency. The board voted to commute the sentence to life without parole," the parole board said.

If you read my stories in the past on this you know I have mixed feelings on the death penalty. Often times a person may be arrested and sentenced to death knowing they were innocent just to further someone's career or to quell the public. Now that we have DNA testing we are finding too often we have the wrong man. We have seen it too often

I do believe the death penalty is justified as in the case of the Fort Hood shootings and the Jared Loughner's shootings where they should be put to death immediately with no trial. They should not have a venue to plead their case. Sane or insane they did it wantonly and publicly, that is all that matters. Cases like those aside I am no longer comfortable with the death penalty being justified because of the horror of the crime because we can not be certain we have the right person unless we actually see them do it.

* The world is shocked? I am shocked! What is happening right now in America in this seeming race to put people to death without knowing if they are guilty? Politics? Once again I am sickened.

Remember this? Gardner chooses death by firing squad Execution by firing squad? That is not wise especially in this environment. Death by firing squad is a bit much in today's environment. It is also too much like the wild wild west. This is 2010! This is Utah the Mormon State. I know in Utah death by firing squad is not an option as it was outlawed. However anyone that requested it prior to the law change in 2004 can still have their execution by firing squad. That is the case with Ronnie Lee Gardner. I do not like this period!

Jeb Bush suspended executions in Florida after a medical examiner said that prison officials botched the insertion of the needles when a convicted killer was put to death earlier this week. Separately, a federal judge in California imposed a moratorium on executions in the nation's most populous state, declaring that the state's method of lethal injection runs the risk of violating the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

I have always had my doubts about the Death Penalty unless it is an open and shut case but I just don't know any more in light of the latest fiasco's. U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel said the case in question with him raised the question of whether a three-drug cocktail administered by the San Quentin State Prison is so painful that it "offends" the Eighth Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
The judge answered in the affirmative and in light of what I am reading I am afraid he is right and I for one feel terrible.

In response He ordered anesthesiologists to be on hand, or demanded that a licensed medical professional inject a large, fatal dose of a sedative instead of the additional paralyzing agent and heart-stopping drugs that are normally used. But no medical professional was willing to participate. man I can't really say I blame them. This just sounds too inhumane. It sounds crass but we have to find a better way to do this and only when "dead" sure!

In Florida, medical examiner Dr. William Hamilton said the execution of Angel Nieves Diaz took 34 minutes -- twice as long as usual -- and required a rare second dose of lethal chemicals because the needles were inserted clear through his veins and into the flesh in his arms. The chemicals are supposed to go into the veins.

Later after the autopsy Dr. Hamilton refused to say whether or not he suffered and deferred answers about pain and suffering. However, Missing a vein when administering the injections would cause "both psychological and physical discomfort -- probably pretty severe," said Dr. J. Kent Garman.

Anyway, I was relieved myself when I heard 2 states were putting an end to lethal injections for now, but then I hear this. A federal judge's ruling that California's lethal injection method is unconstitutionally cruel will have little impact on most of the state's death row inmates, legal experts said Saturday.

Four times as many condemned prisoners in California have died of natural causes, suicide or murder after their cases meandered through the appeals courts for decades. Texas, by contrast, has carried out 380 executions in roughly the same period. The leading cause of death on death row right now is old age," said Gerald Uelmen, a professor at the Santa Clara University School of Law. How does that make you feel? are you supposed to feel better?

Then I got to wondering how many States have the death penalty and what is their methods? In the 38 states and federal government that currently have death penalty statutes, five different methods of execution are prescribed: Lethal Injection, Electrocution, Lethal Gas, Firing Squad, and Hanging.

The vast majority of jurisdictions provide for execution by lethal injection. 20 jurisdictions provide for alternative methods of execution, contingent upon the choice of the inmate, the date of the execution or sentence, or the possibility of the method being held unconstitutional. Only one state does not have lethal injection as a primary or optional method of execution. Nebraska is the only state that provides for electrocution as the sole method of execution. No states provide for Lethal Gas, Hanging, or Firing Squad as the sole method of execution. Please look at the link for the accepted method of execution by State.

I am beginning to get a real bad feeling about this and wonder if there is a humane way of killing or if there is one method that is fail safe why isn't it made to be universal. Something is not right about this and something has to be done. Please give me your 2 cents!

petition I have been following this closely and as you know have written about it a couple of times already. I will not recap it but if you are curious look at and please sign the petition. You can contact the Governor directly and or look at some of the asinine horrible things that Perry is saying as he endeavors to cover this up!

I will just get into the latest nitty gritty BS as this cover up deepens! The half dozen arson experts that were used but ignored believe it was not Arson that started the fire! 17 years later and one Juror is sleepless with guilt hearing all the proof only now coming out and does not believe Todd Cameron Willingham lit the fire that killed his 3 young children. It gets worse!

This too was ignored to convict Willingham! In 1993 this Juror admitted that she personally knew the investigator that convicted Willingham but the Judge ignored that little conflict of interest! Willingham's ex wife did say Willingham told her while behind bars that he did it so she would stay with him. Killing someone's babies so they would stay with you? Come on! Willingham of course went to his death saying they are executing an innocent man. I agree!

Governor Perry says all the hype about hanging an innocent man is babble coming from anti Death Penalty organizations. Yeeaahhh? Anybody with any sense can see that an innocent man was executed. It has nothing to do with being anti Death penalty. I want to see Governor Perry prosecuted for murder! He knowingly executed an innocent man and is now trying to stack the deck to cover it up at least until he can he hopes get reelected!
