Corruption around the world worsens every year

No EU country escapes corruption, study finds:  Readers would be looking in vain if they scour the EU Commission's lengthy report for a list that shows which countries in the European Union are most corrupt and which are doing the best job of combating bribery and other sources of unfair influence. In the report she headed, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström refused to hand out grades for the 28 member states.

"It gives a frank assessment on how each member state tackles corruption, how existing laws and policies work in practice, and we suggest also how each member state can step up their work against corruption," Malmström told DW. The European Commission does point out after its 28 individual reports that there is a divide between the North and the South and also between the East and the West.

Corruption worsens in world's conflict State's, 5 Arab States top list: Surprise?

  * Corruption worsens in world's conflict :  Some of the world's most tumultuous countries suffered setbacks this year in the fight against corruption, with civil war-torn Syria among the pack of nations increasingly at the mercy of bribe-takers and influence-peddlers, Transparency International reported Tuesday in its annual corruption survey.

Notable in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2013 was how little improvement was recorded in even the most open and law-abiding countries. The bottom rung of this year's index was stubbornly unreformed, with Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia each matching last year's three-way tie for the most corrupt government with 8-point ratings.

l*  Five Arab states top the most corrupt list:  Syria, Iraq, Libya, Somalia and Sudan all scored less than 20, as their governments deal with massive instability in the face of civil war and armed groups, or nations where the lead researcher of the study said the regime is not "functioning effectively"."Corruption is very much linked to countries that fall apart, as you see in Libya, Syria, two of the countries that deteriorated the most," Finn Heinrich told AFP news agency.

Good or bad Iraq has too much company: Corruption and stolen power became the new standard of so called Democracy and we set the example!

Iraq election deadlock breaks world record

Afghanistan sank in new corruption ranking in 2009 as US, World Leaders Fell Short in their so called Corruption Fight Group Says! I hate to tell them but corruption is the goal not the fight. I am sorry to say that since Bush we have set a disgusting example of democracy for the world to follow and they are.

It tok 3 months to ratify Iraq's election because of corruption. The main Shia coalition said it had only now decided to nominate the incumbent Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, for a second term of office but the National Alliance, a merger of Mr Maliki's State of Law coalition and the Iraqi National Alliance of the radical Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr is four seats short of the parliamentary majority needed to confirm the appointment.

The secular Iraqiya bloc led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, which narrowly won the election, has said it will oppose such a move. So far it has been 222 days and you can bet there is no end in sight as no one wants to be the minority. This will go a year at least and will only end with their civil war Sunni against Shiite and don't forget the Kurds!

Last year "1979" Bush's success Iraq ranked 176 and Afghanistan's level of corruption earned it a ranking of 179 out of 180 Nations listed, worsened only by Somalia who is ranked as the most corrupt nation on earth. That is not much to be proud of! Britain is 17th and the US is 19th, Cuba is 64th and Mexico 89th. Afghanistan has Iraq Burma Haiti and the likes of Burundi for company on the bottom of the list. Afghanistan sank in new corruption ranking I have to wonder where this most recent distinction now puts Iraq?

What bothers me about the list is that recent efforts at forcing Democracy on Nations by Bush and now Obama we know as failure but it is illustrated here. I know corruption has been around since the beginning of society and man. However, with the advent of George W and his corrupt underhanded Government in what he called an example of Democracy to be exported around the world the corruption and stolen power became the new standard. Britain slippped to new low in ranking of most corrupt countries

US, World Leaders Fall Short in Corruption Fight, Group Says It's a losing battle and it will get worse as the new message in today's so called democracies and most countries is to take what you can and do what you have to to better yourself and get what you want.

Bush used what I coined as 3D politics taught by Karl Rove to achieve their goals. (3D politics = Deceitful, deceptive, divisive politics) It seems in every election in every country now we hear cries of fraud and corruption not just here in the US and more visibly in Iran during the June Presidential election. Why should we expect Afghanistan or anyone else to be any different? Check where your country ranks in the corruption index

Look at the example we have set for others to follow. I remember the feeling of shame when GW had the audacity to tell China they should aspire to a US style Democracy seeing our own broadcast daily corruption in what many of us believed was no longer a Democracy. Under Bush we became a Democracy in name only and were exporting that not just in the Middle East but around the world.

Stealing elections and corruptions is the standard in the world now. The destruction Bush rained on the US and world balance along with the example he set for the world to follow will affect the entire world for generations if not forever. That is why I can not forget what Bush did and people often tell me to get over it. He made sure he will go down in history!

Pakistan gives Obama the excuse he needed to keep smaller footprint!

They do not want a large increase in troops and I have to agree with their reasoning. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said the United States must fully share its plans for Afghanistan with Pakistan so that it can contribute to them. He warned of our closing posts near the border and I agree we should increase our presence there.Pakistan demands US share Afghan blueprint

'US drone' targets Pakistan hideout 8 more militants killed! I understand Obama has greatly increased drone attacks. I abhor any civilian deaths or injuries but I do think the drone attacks should be increased along with use for observation. The drones are a way for us to help on the Pakistan side of the border without putting boots on the ground. I have to say, Pakistan and both sides of the border should be our priority now.

As you know, I agree with the Afghan citizens interviewed and with Pakistan that we should put Karzai to the test and concentrate our efforts on securing the Afghanistan Pakistan border to contain militants in Pakistan so Pakistan can eradicate them if possible and keep them from migrating into Afghanistan to complicate our efforts. Border security is key to the success of both Pakistan and Afghanistan and should be a prime concern and the effort of Afghan forces can be spent training up and killing the militants that are already in country!

I happen to like the new “5th option” The final option on the table, dubbed the "hybrid" option, would involve a surge of around 20,000 troops to reinforce major population areas coupled with a renewed counter-terrorist effort against al-Qaeda and Taliban targets in lawless tribal areas along the border with Pakistan.

Bingo! Exactly what we have been saying and then we should get the hell out and see if Karzai is as spineless and corrupt as some of us think before we have another Saigon and join Afghanistan’s graveyard of Nations!

The 5th option is the right option and I bet Obama will go with that and then start the slow withdrawal and see what Karzai and Afghanistan do with their opportunity, I hope they fight like Pakistan is. The letters from Ambassador Eikenberry set this in motion and I am psyched! Pay attention to Biden, pay attention to Max Cleland!

Adding more troops will only embolden the Taliban, make them happy, and make things much worse for us! Karzai better quickly get things together and cooperate, the writing is on the wall.

We keep saying we better learn from Vietnam or we are going to have another Saigon! Get the hell out of there. We have lost enough good soldiers fighting for Karzai’s corrupt Government! Obama wants to hear the advice to down size and withdraw and he has it! He has an exit strategy and I can’t wait to hear it

Afghanistan Ambassador warns Obama against adding troops. Asks for new options, It's about time!

Obama Asks for New Afghan Options

We all know this but we keep hearing there is no military solution in Afghanistan any victory will require a Political solution. I do not like General McChrystal’s clandestine military past but I do respect him. However we do not need a warrior solution right now. We need a way out of Afghanistan not another Saigon!

Having said that, McChrystal is the right man to oversee the job in Afghanistan as he is but for a solution as to what to do next we better listen to our Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry, a retired army general who commanded US forces in Afghanistan from 2005-2007. He knows what he is talking about. US ambassador warns against Afghanistan troop surge

He has been in charge in Afghanistan militarily and he knows the Government’s corruption first hand. He has deep reservations as I do and warns against adding more troops to this corrupt Government. I still say Mikhail Gorbachev is right and it is time to start withdrawing before we join the graveyard of Nations.

I am glad to hear that Obama has rejected all four options requesting an additional 15,000 to 40,000 troops to Afghanistan. When Eikenberry correctly assessed that adding any more troops will only worsen our situation.. It is about time! The right assessment for once!

I understand McChrystal is very angry and NATO came right out and said they wanted the 40,000 troops.

The 5th option is the right option and I bet Obama will go with that and then start the slow withdrawal and see what Karzai and Afghanistan do with their opportunity, I hope they fight like Pakistan is. The letters from Ambassador Eikenberry set this in motion and I am psyched!

• In the end as I keep saying, McChrystal is wrong in this case.

Obama wants to hear the advice to withdraw and he has it! Now?

Welcoming Corruption: Britain leads the way in Congratulating Karzai after Abdullah drops out because of proven corruption!

Karzai Declared Afghan President

I guess the opium growers, drug lords like his brother, and other corrupt officials must be pretty happy that the election was handed to Karzai despite the corruption and the US stupidly says they will keep working with him! He is damn using us to keep power in his corrupt drug infested regime. What the hell is wrong with us? Karzai handed second term after Afghan election run-off cancelled

Think about this again: I do not know what you think about Ahmed working for the CIA or "rumors" of him being a Drug Lord but think about this! First hearing he is a drug lord makes me wonder what was being discussed in all the pictures I see of him visiting towns and conversing with tribal leaders. Being a a prominent political figure in the southern region of the country with regular visits makes for a lucrative convenient position in the opium world. I refuse to believe it can be ignored though Ahmed denies any involvement. Yeah like the million rigged ballots he didn't rig.

Okay! Ahmed is a drug lord. Him and his profits are probably helping to fund the war against us. Think about it! It gets worse. While returning from a successful mission searching a compound for drugs the helicopter crashed killing 7 troops and as we now know, 3 DEA agents. In the fight after the crash 12 "insurgents" were killed. 14 Americans die in Afghanistan chopper crashes‎

They were just returning from a successful mission cleaning out opium interests in Ahmed's region. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Now our commander in chief: He has done his homework in what will be the most important decision he has ever made. He has done his homework dotting the eyes and crossing the T's. He has done his homework and is close to a decision. He has listened to General McChrystal, his advisers, all his joint chiefs, and all involved. He just paid a midnight visit to Dover to Salute the caskets and Honor 18 US soldiers that were killed this week in Afghanistan. Obama never stops impressing me! He is the first US President to go to Dover and honor the returning dead!

Anyway to top it off amidst escalating violence in Afghanistan Obama has sent his Commanders on the ground in Afghanistan province by province and village to village to talk to all tribal leaders find out what they need, what their issues are, and discern how many more troops will be need and what type. Obama take your time! He will do this if anyone can. What if his analysis dictates we leave? Think about it!

I was pretty impressed that President Obama went to Dover, Delaware to honor the 18 troops recently killed in Afghanistan as they were brought off the plane. I know Limbaugh is a so called entertainer but I was sickened when he called it a publicity stunt to make palatable whatever decision he makes on the troop count. I know it will influence his decision but I hope in the form of changing the mission purely to defense and training up Afghanistan to fight for themselves. This is Vietnam x 10 if we are stupid enough to stay there. I reiterate, it is time to start the slow good bye!

130 public officials in New Jersey have been convicted or pled guilty of corruption since 2001!

New Jersey residents disappointed in corruption probe

Money laundering and illegal organ selling ring busted in New Jersey! Nothing should surprise me any more but this just blew me away. I must admit that even in this modern environment of degradation and corruption I have not heard of so much pervasive corruption in one State in my entire life heck for that matter in the entire country!

I know corruption in politics and in society goes back to day one but it started getting much worse with the advent of the Bush misadministration. You might want to say the Bush misadministration has nothing to do with what is still on going in New Jersey but it certainly does. The Bush misadministration ushered in as the new standard the hurray for me to hell with you environment of only you and your desires matters and anything goes.

From the entire Bush misadministration to Politicians on both sides of the aisle even under Obama's Government we see a continuation of the hurray for me the hell with you atmosphere and it is all pervasive all encompassing with absolutely no regard for morality. The example of corruption and self enrichment we saw as the example under the Bush misadministration coming right from the top. set the example for the entire country to follow and as you see, it is.

We here of more corruption and inequities every day in the Government and in business. Stupid me I thought though that this stuff was Al Capone like and just happened in Chicago politics. I had no idea New Jersey was so corrupt. The scope and depth of what is still on going right now in New Jersey and New York amazed me.

It just speaks to the degradation of of morality that comes along with a degradation of a society! International money laundering and the selling of human organs has so far netted 44 arrested in New Jersey and New York. I was blown away seeing that the ring leaders were Mayors, Jewish leaders, Rabbi's. They are supposed to be our leaders not our misleaders. Jersey Mayors Stung in Graft Probe

You know what I am going to say, with friends like them who needs enemies? This is unbelievable to me! This probe has been ongoing for ten years and there are many arrests still to come. This is just one State people!

Taking time out from corruption well maybe not, Bank America abusing your Bailout!

Bank of America is hoarding your tax dollars — and workers are losing their jobs as a result.

Send a message to support workers. Bank of America and Congressional leaders need to ensure that the Bailout Program is used to provide workers and companies with lines of credit to save jobs.

Last month, Bank of America accepted $25 billion in taxpayer funds as part of the Wall Street Bailout. Now they're refusing to release lines of credit and causing hundreds to lose their jobs. In Chicago, workers making energy efficient windows and doors at the Republic Windows and Doors plant came to work only to be told their factory was shutting down and they would not be receiving the pay owed to them.

Hundreds of these laid-off workers have occupied their factory and are refusing to leave without receiving the benefits they rightly deserve — they're staying in the office day and night in their quest for justice. We think this is an important fight, and that's why we're joining with our friends at True Majority to take action.

Tell Bank of America and Congressional leaders to ensure that the Bailout Program be used to provide workers and companies with lines of credit to save jobs.

This is just the latest instance of banks taking advantage of the taxpayer funded bailout. Instead of using our funds to provide loans and credit lines to companies and workers on Main Street, Bank of America is focused on taking over other banks and padding their executives' bottom line.

These workers have become a symbol for everything that's wrong in our economy, and they need our support right now. But, once this immediate crisis passes, we'll need to gear up to pass a Next New Deal for Main Street that will protect millions of other Americans struggling like these workers in Chicago.

Click here to join the fight to protect these workers — who knows which workers will be in danger next?

Thank you for working to build a better world.

Maybe we can have some oversight now that Billions have enriched corruptive cronies, Let's see some backbone, tie it to Bush's $46 Billion demand!

First I have to say, I was very peeved yesterday when Bush ignored California burning and just demanded another 46 Billion for his wars this year. I won't say I'm pleased because as bad as it is he did not have a choice now but he pledged Federal help and declared a state of emergency. I am very concerned still because with more than 10,000 sheltering in Qualcomm Stadium and pledges of help I am afraid for shades of Katrina. Anyway like you I am monitoring that situation but have moved back to Bush's new order wars and more specifically the grotesque amount of money spent while insistence of no oversight which is ludicrous. Now is the time to grow some backbone and put it too an end period.

Yesterday I discussed California burning primarily because I was disgusted that Bush did not mention it but only demanded 46 Billion more from Congress to fight his wars this year and he wants it now no strings attached. BS, now is the time to attach one string that has been purposely left unattached. Demand oversight or no money. He can't refuse!
Most of the $45.9 billion request is for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing the expected cost of those conflicts to more than $192 billion for the budget year that began this month. The administration has already sought $147 billion for 2008. Most of that money goes to Iraq, which is currently costing the Pentagon an estimated $2 billion a week. Bush said the money will cover basic operating expenses, plus additional armored vehicles and countermeasures designed to protect U.S. troops from roadside bombs but we shall see. We can make sure it is not stolen as usual.

The president also called on Congress to finish the appropriations bills that fund the Pentagon and Department of Veterans Affairs before lawmakers' holiday recess, set to begin in mid-November. The request is bound to kick off another debate on Capitol Hill over the course of the Iraq war. Bush's last supplemental spending request led to a showdown with the Democratic leaders of Congress, who pushed for a withdrawal of American combat troops in 2008 -- a demand dropped after the president vetoed the measure. Unless Congress is part of Bush's new order plan they better grow some backbone!
Anyway Minutes after Bush spoke, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, warned the president not to expect Congress to "rubber-stamp" the latest request. "In the coming weeks, we will hold it up to the light of day and fight for the change of strategy and redeployment of troops that is long overdue," Reid said. He said the new request means the overall cost of the widely unpopular war now approaches $650 billion since the March 2003 invasion that toppled Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Read more of Bush's demands
Bush did tie it to Billions in much needed armored vehicles and more than a Billion for spending on military health care so it should be okayed but not without an up to now necessary and ignored necessity
. We all know Billions have been stolen by unethical and corruptive contractors and others but as usual I wanted to research this before I let this go. This morning I found that The U.S. State Department is unable to account for most of $1.2 billion in funding that it gave to DynCorp International to train Iraqi police, a government report said Tuesday. The Department of State's Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) "did not have the information needed to identify what DynCorp provided under the contract or how funds were spent," the report said.
This blows me away $1.2 Billion? This is only one company and they don't even know what they spent it on? Another great sinner is Bechtel. Tuesday's report is the second in a series of financial reviews ordered by Congress and carried out by SIGIR looking into large Iraqi Relief and Reconstruction Fund projects. The first report, issued three months ago, criticized officials with the U.S. Agency for International Development for lack of oversight of their contract with Bechtel. Bechtel is a privately held, U.S. conglomerate of engineering, construction, and project management companies.
The idiocy in this report is astounding pleaseRead on
Then we hear more underhanded crap from our great American defenders at Blackwater-- A congressional committee investigating the performance of Blackwater USA questioned whether the private security firm may have evaded paying millions of dollars in taxes.
By classifying workers in Iraq as "independent contractors" rather than employees, Blackwater appears to have engaged in an "illegal tax scheme" that avoided an estimated $31 million in employment-related taxes in the last year of its contract alone, said Rep. Henry Waxman on Monday. Waxman, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, also accused the North Carolina-based company of preventing a guard who discovered the practice "from contacting members of Congress or law enforcement officials."

"It is deplorable that a company that depends on federal tax dollars for over 90 percent of its business would even contemplate forbidding an employee to report corporate wrongdoing to Congress and federal law enforcement officials," the California Democrat wrote in a letter to Blackwater founder and CEO Erik Prince. more lies
Just one more benefit of working for Bush and more proof of why the insistence of no oversight. Stealing our money with Bush's blessings. I decided to look at the top 20 corruptors just in Iraq. Halibrton, Parsons, Custer Battles, etc with min boggling corruption to the tune of Billions. Please take a moment to Look at these horrific Boondoggles
Anyway as is becoming standard there are so many examples and stories of the corruption in Iraq, a million and a half, I decided to add the link and you can Look at them if you want
Like everything else with this idiot Bush and his corruptive benefactors have enjoyed their windfall long enough. Now comes the facade of concern. After more than four years and Billions in illicit gains at our expense A panel recommended to the State Department that the U.S. create a "central command center" to improve coordination among agencies using private security contractors in war zones, senior State Department officials and others familiar with the review told CNN Monday.
The panel also recommended a thorough examination of the rules of engagement, especially when using deadly force, the sources said. Led by Assistant Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy, the panel briefed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Monday on its recommendations. Other members include retired Gen. George Joulwan, Ambassador Stapleton Roy and Ambassador Eric Boswell. Rice said the recommendations "point a very good way forward, and I intend to act on them expeditiously." Those familiar with the review said members found a lack of coordination and communication between U.S. diplomats and military officials and little oversight over private security contractors. just more belated concern

Again I say to Congress, demand oversight or refuse the 46 Billion, there is no way even the idiot could get away with saying no! Like everything else that has occurred on Bush's watch he has had his corruptive way and corruptive gains now once again he will put forth a facade of concern. He will act like he cares so he can use it and gain politically. This monkeys obvious underhanded crap is sickening. I refuse to believe he continues to abuse and misuse everything in his path and he just keeps getting away with it. we aren't this stupid! What the hell is wrong with our so called leaders? Are they all hoping to benefit from the crap Bush is pulling and about to dwarf?

Drowning in Information and what to do about it! You can now make a difference, Cooperative Research!

Hi James Michael Joiner,

This is Paul Thompson, the creator of the 911 Timeline that is hosted at http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/
You're receiving this email because you are a registered user of the Cooperative Research website.
Political scandals are emerging so frequently these days that it's easy to lose track of them all. When new ones arise, the older ones are quickly forgotten and pushed out of the newspapers. At the History Commons, we're doing what no one else is doing on the web or elsewhere--compiling a database of important facts that we have gleaned from thousands of news reports and documents so they won't be erased from public memory.

Right now, we want to accelerate our efforts because it appears that some lawmakers are stepping up theirs. Slowly but surely, Congressional investigations and hearings are being organized on many issues. For instance, Congressman Dennis Kucinich has promised hearings into some aspects of 9/11 later in the year. Other investigations are taking a look at the FDA and drug industry, climate change policies, detainees, and civil liberties. We'd love to start new projects or intensify our work on others so we can make all the information relevant to these issues more accessible to the public.
Don't just be a passive observer of the news; help change history. We're looking for more contributors to help us sort through news stories so Congressional investigations will have a big leg up when they get started. We have Congressional contacts who have used our work in the past. So this gives you a real opportunity to have an impact.
We have a very simple online entry submission system and we're happy to take the time to show you how to use it. You don't need to devote a huge amount of time to the project to have an impact. If there are several people inputting only the occasional entry, we will still be able to accomplish a great deal. So the pattern of contribution will depend on the user. You can spend anywhere from four hours a day to just a few hours a year, and we can work closely with you to develop your first few entries.
Mainstream reporting has been far too short-sighted. More and more, it's up to concerned citizens to conduct the kind of government and corporate oversight that the media—the so-called fourth estate—has failed to do. Prior to the Internet, it was difficult for people at the grassroots-level to challenge the assertions of governments and corporations, which are capable of backing their information campaigns with enormous resources. But with the advent of the Internet, online collaboration has provided the public with the means to harness a great deal of distributed energy in a very effective and efficient way. Let's put our energy together to create a permanent record of history and help hold those with power accountable.
Please help us so we can achieve as a group what no person can achieve alone.
To start contributing, please send me an email (ccr@cooperativeresearch.org) so we can figure out where your knowledge and interests can have the greatest impact. We've come a long way, but we have much left to do. The time is now for the public to assert its role as both the prime actor and author of history.
Regards, The History Commons team http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/
I thought many of you here would like to help with this project.
