Rahm Emanuel a tough man for chief of staff! Obama's first pick speaks volumes as to Obama the President! The Republicans are coming!

Rahm Emanuel a tough man for chief of staff! Obama's first pick speaks volumes as to Obama the President!

Rep. Rahm Emanuel combines political instincts, White House experience and a Chicago tough-guy attitude — traits that he's likely to need as President-elect Barack Obama's new chief of staff. His combative style as political director in the early days of the Clinton administration earned him the nickname "Rahmbo," after the flame-throwing movie character Rambo. He didn't always produce results, though. Emanuel lost that job but stayed on as a senior adviser and oversaw some of Clinton's top initiatives, including NAFTA and an assault-weapons ban. Emanuel was elected to Congress in 2002 and quickly became a major power. He wound up overseeing the party's House election efforts in 2006 and won a majority for Democrats through tireless fundraising and candidate recruitment. Emanuel is now the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives as the Democratic Caucus Chair.

His start in politics came after college, when he worked for Paul Simon's 1984 Senate campaign and Richard Daley's run for Chicago mayor in 1989. Then he went to work for a little-known Arkansas governor who wanted to be president. Emanuel's fundraising skills are credited with helping keep Bill Clinton's campaign afloat during some rocky times, particularly sexual scandals. In 1999, Emanuel left the White House to work in investment banking in Chicago, where Obama also lives. The firm Emanuel joined was soon sold and Emanuel made millions, giving him the financial security to get back into politics. When he was tapped to oversee the 2006 congressional campaign effort, Emanuel led a record fundraising effort, bringing in far more money than four years earlier. The single biggest source of money was other members of Congress, which irritated some members who faced fierce pressure to contribute. Rahm Emanuel

ABC's Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama has often said he'd consider putting Republicans in his cabinet and even bandied about names like Sens. Dick Lugar and Chuck Hagel. He's a added a new name to the list of possible Republicans cabinet members - Arnold Schwarzenegger. Obama regularly says he would look to Republicans to fill out his cabinet if he was elected, but at a town hall event in Manchester, N.H., he was pushed to name names. “It’s premature for me to start announcing my cabinet. I mean, I’m pretty confident. but I’m not all that confident. We still got a long way to go,” Obama said.

But then the GOP names started to flow. Sen. Dick Lugar: “He’s a Republicans who I worked with on issues of arms control, wonderful guy. He is somebody I think embodies the tradition of a bipartisan foreign policy that is sensible, that is not ideological, that is based on the idea that we have to have some humility and restraint in terms of our ability to project power around the world,” Obama said about his Senate colleague.

Sen. Chuck Hagel: “A Vietnam vet, similar approach and somebody I respect in a similar fashion,” Obama added. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: “What (he’s) doing on climate change in California is very important and significant. There are things I don't agree with him on, but he's taken leadership on a very difficult issue and we haven't seen that kind of leadership in Washington," Obama said of the California governor. * We have one hell of a President elect in Obama and the whole world knows it! I feel like he was born for this role and he impresses me more every day. If we are to make it through this dire mess Bush has purposely created for our future we have the right man at the helm. Of course I wanted Gore but at this point I hope he has a role to play but I believe we have the right man at the helm to steer this ship we call America off the rocks of the world Bush has purposely steered her.

Great to have you back, buddy!

The neocons have been defeated, but not eliminated.

There's so much work to be done.

The struggle for American freedom will continue.

What an amazing period in American politics. I personally didn’t vote for Obama but am truly inspired by the positivity and global reaction resulting from his election, at least so far. His energy is addicting and his demeanor inspiring. I think Rahm Emanuel will do a phenomenal job as Obama’s chief of staffs. He’s hard nosed, stubborn, and won’t take “no” for an answer.

Obama’s story is truly American. I’d wish to dive into Obama’s mind and discover his motives and internal dialog. To go through a year of campaigning is very difficult, but to go through a year of campaigning and deliver a speech like he did that is truly inspirational. I’m excited about to see how he really attacks global warming and the energy crisis.

What’s also fascinating is looking at the dynamic of who voted, how they voted, and what drove them to vote. Obama’s campaign created a wave of energy that grew bigger and bigger as his campaign moved forward, engulfing (in a good way) each supporter and supercharging them. How did they do this? It all started with a vision. Obama’s vision, planted deep within his mind, began to take root almost 2 years ago today. The power of his vision can teach every American citizen about how to accomplish goals using the powers of visualization and intention.

I looked into this vision questing further and found that many super-successful people have been using vision boards to help focus their mind and accomplish their dreams. A vision board is a collage of images pasted on a board that represent your desired outcomes, your goals, and dreams. By studying your vision board, your brain gains clarity on what is important to your success, the things you MUST accomplish. I found a site www.TheVisionBoardKit.com that allows you to download a free 8-step power plan to creating vision boards. I’d highlight recommend downloading it.

Well, I was not thrilled with Emanuel in 2006. As I recall he would not back progressive dems and favored more DLC type Republican Lite.

We still have work to do to keep transforming the DNC into a progressive powerhouse. I see Emmaneul as an obstacle to that.

Then again, he aint in Congress any more and I still do trust Obama to ultimately do the right thing.

Welcome! I have heard about people using those vision boards and very successfully! I have been using one in my mind my entire life and very successfully to me.
I was uplifted seeing the world share in our excitement for Obama. The entire world has a stake in this and they know it! I have at least one son who just got back from Iraq who voted for McCaina and Bush has him as a lifer convinced Democrats are his enemy. Obama wil change that attitude!

Hi shifter
Glad to se you out and about! I have been hearing about how hard line Rahm is and that is good but we will not have the chief war mongers at the helm but Obama and Biden with Obama being the decider. I 100% believe he will be fine as long as we can keep him alive!

Jim, the man in the video is my oldest nephew. He's not the one that was staying with us.

I haven't seen him since he was 17. He enlisted right out of High school. I didn't find out until a year later.

My family on my mother's side doesn't talk to me.

i liked emmanuel when he worked for clinton, and am likewise impressed with the names he's saying. BUTBUTBUT - i may get ranted at for this, BUT i want to see Hillary in the cabinet - i think she'd be great at HHS, or whatever current nomenclature. i've not been too impressed with the basically all male names, white men, at that.

Rahm is someone who won't take no shit from anyone and will work to see that President Obama's policies are carried out.

He will also work across the aisle as he has friends on the other side.

He will also hold the Democrats inline with President Obama's initiatives as well.

However, I have to disagree with you about the 2006 elections. He took credit, but the blogosphere helped get many Democrats elected as well, though I don't remember their names at this moment.

Catch you later.

God Bless.

I wonder if he was the best choice....The chief of staff is like the president's gatekeeper, determining access for others.

Obama has been a good listener who has considered the perspectives of those from all sides.

Rahm is somewhat conservative.

How much access progressive voices will actually have to Obama as president is now the question.

Emanual was on the BOD of Freddie Mac while all the lending shenanigans was going on. He leaves the Clinton Administration, goes to work in the Financial industry for 2 years with an investment bank, makes $18M, joins the Freddie Mac Board, has them do 81 different fund raisers generating $1.7M which is directed primarily to House Financial Services Committee, runs for Congress, receives a pile of money from Freddie Mac, then joins the House Financial Services Committee.

Looks more like a revolving door of corruption, of which BOTH parties are guilty.

And all of this is reported by ABC news .

You know something? I am looking at what you said about your nephew again and even with my own sons who are all men it is hard to think of them as such because they will always be kids I think. Weird huh?

WeezieLou I agree with you, Ha! I am impressed with the names I hear bandied about so far but I would like to see Bill's an Gores. I also think it would have been too mush to have Hillary Veep because of Bill but she would be great in Obama's cabinet!

I was impressed with the pick of Rahm! He will set the tone for Frick and Frack (Reid and Pelosi) and the ilk of their likes. So far I am impressed with his reaching across the aisle and Barack will not disappointed.
It is funny hearing said "the other side". Sounds out there! Take care! It is good to see you out again!

Hi! I think he was a great choice because he will set the tone and we no longer have the narrow minded decider but the all inclusive decider. One way or the other word will get to him and he will act on it if it is right regardless of the source just like we would!

Welcome! I am against these bail outs and I saw them all coming! There will be more as this is just beginning! They are not Bail outs they are Government hand outs in the Bush plot called the Bankrupting of America.
There is no accident here including the timing. Bush has till 1/20 to do his worst and he will as he says he is sprinting to the finish. It will not be good! I have questions but will leave them for now.
I will be by your site eventually to check it out and see if you have the link to sign on there as I didn't see it in your comment. Take care!

Hey Grumpy
Welcome! I understand Rahm left the Government made his fortune and it gave him the money to rejoin the Government.
I am sure it is one major revolving door of lies and corruption. The one saving grace is we now have a good sensed all inclusive Decider. Take care and stay in touch!
