He also recommended that Palin and her husband apologize "for any overreaching or perceived overreaching" regarding Wooten, who was involved in a child custody dispute with the governor's sister. Bankrupting America: Bailing out Fannie and Freddie will cost us $25 Billion, we are told our debt is $9.6 trillion but it is really $53 trillion!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac together hold or back half of the nation's mortgage debt, and have played an increasingly important role in the real estate market since the credit crisis started in August 2007. A government bailout could cost taxpayers around $25 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and two other regulators are working on a plan to put the troubled mortgage finance companies into a conservatorship, and remove Fannie Mae CEO Daniel Mudd and Freddie Mac CEO Richard Syron, according to Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

News of the likely government takeover Friday followed a report by the Mortgage Bankers Association that more than 4 million American homeowners with a mortgage, a record 9 percent, were either behind on their payments or in foreclosure at the end of June. That confirmed what investors saw in Fannie and Freddie's recent financial results: trouble in the mortgage market has shifted to homeowners who had solid credit but took out exotic loans with little or no proof of their income and assets. In July, Congress passed a plan to provide unlimited government loans to Fannie and Freddie and to purchase stock in the companies if needed. Critics say the open-ended nature of the rescue package could expose taxpayers to billions of dollars of potential losses. $25 Billion is a minimum

Besides an $11-trillion debt, the country is also saddled with $34 trillion in unfunded Medicare promises, $7 trillion in unfunded Social Security promises and $1 trillion in miscellaneous debts, Walker said at an economic summit at Bryant University in Smithfield.

The total — $53 trillion — is the equivalent of $175,000 in debt for every man, woman and child in the country, Walker said. Federal budget controls expired several years ago and now, “Washington is out of touch and out of control,” he said. But even if the annual federal budget is balanced, the overall debt will continue to grow — automatically — unless voters hold elected leaders accountable and demand solutions, said Walker, former head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the watchdog arm of Congress. “America is at a crossroads,” he said. “We have much to be proud of and much to be thankful for, but we have strayed” from the nation’s founding core values.

Voters should demand that candidates for elective office acknowledge the $53-trillion problem, change the nation’s tax policy and address entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security, he said. He added that the nation must no longer write a “blank check” when it comes to health-care costs. “If we don’t get health-care costs under control, we will bankrupt this country,” he said. Walker also told about 230 business leaders, academics and others at the summit that “too many Americans are following the bad example of the federal government — spending more than they make.” It gets worse!

I.O.U.S.A. delivers the goods with plenty of jaw-dropping figures. In 2007, China had the largest trade surplus of any country in the world, at $262 billion, while the U.S. had the greatest trade deficit of all nations, at $847 billion. At the end of World War II, nearly all federal debt lay in the hands of Americans, but by 2007 foreigners owned 45% of our obligations. As for what's occurring within our own borders, if current trends continue, the total federal debt will skyrocket to 250% of gross domestic product around 2040. The ratio of the nation's outstanding debt to GDP is 63% now.

Mr. Cheney's warm words for Georgia's Nato aspirations are likely to cause consternation in several European capitals, particularly Berlin and Paris. Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Founder of Labor Day

More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.

Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

The First Labor Day

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Labor Day Legislation

Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From them developed the movement to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

A Nationwide Holiday

The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take were outlined in the first proposal of the holiday — a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civic significance of the holiday. First I had a conversation with my son in Iraq and it made me think about this entire mess with Palin and the Government, and this entire lie we are living today: If you Believe anything the Government tells you you're a rube and part of the problem! A grey area is always created to hide a hidden agenda! You know what you know but it is the things you don't know that will shape the facts and teach you the real truth,. That is why they are hidden from you to confuse the issue!

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people. Huh? Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background: She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1 Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2 She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3 Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4 She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5 She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6 How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. Like that she was Pregnant and No One she worked with Knew she was pregnant ? And that she Flew HOME from Texas, and she was OVER 7 Months Pregnant and her water Broke ? I don't care how dedicated you are who the hell does that? How is it she went back to work so quickly with a special need baby? I mean come on get real!

The more I hear about her the more concerned I get. I heard a rumor that her daughter was pregnant and she was hiding it. That makes sense to another story I heard that her water broke in Texas and she flew home to give birth. Now it makes more sense when you hear that baby is her daughters. No wonder she was back on the trail in two or three days! This woman is a proven liar willing to fire everyone that disagrees with her and does not do her bidding. Whether she is a Woman or not she is more of the same and we are in trouble if they monkeys steal another one!

Now I was just over Betmo's and I hear Palin said in a mispeak that she had 4 kids not 5. She is not the Mother of that Baby her daughter is. She is the grandmother. Read this post on kos and you too will be convinced. Sarah is not the baby's mother

I was encouraged this morning as when I was lying in bed having my coffee I heard WBZ say that Romney has not giving up hope of his dream of making it to the White House. Personally I hope his waiting to see if McCain falls is pushed big time by his irresponsible pick for Veep!

PRAGUE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The territorial integrity of Georgia and the country's reconstruction after the recent armed conflict with Russia will be the Czech government's priorities at the forthcoming EU summit on Georgia, Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said on Wednesday. What the hell can they do? The reconstruction plan should concern the whole territory of Georgia, including the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhasia whose independence Russia officially recognized on Tuesday, the Czech news agency CTK quoted Schwarzenberg as saying.

Russian troops entered Georgia in early August after Georgia tried to dominate its province South Ossetia by force. Schwarzenberg told journalists after a cabinet meeting that Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek received a relatively open mandate for the summit to be organized on Monday on the initiative of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Topolanek said the summit would discuss long-term reconstruction of Georgia. The Czech Republic wants to earmark 150million crowns (about 8.9 million U.S. dollars) for it in the next three years, according to CTK. This war was never about South Ossetia or Georgia. Moscow is using its invasion, prepared over years, to rebuild its empire, seize greater control of Europe’s energy supplies and punish those who believed democracy could flourish on its borders. Europe has reason to worry. Thankfully, most of the international community has condemned the invasion and confirmed their unwavering support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. I don't know about thankfully? Russia is responding to Bush's instigation towards total war as expected what the hell is there to be thankful for?

Moscow says it invaded Georgia to protect its citizens in South Ossetia. Moscow has flipped the Kosovo precedent on its head: where the west acted to prevent ethnic cleansing, in Georgia ethnic cleansing is being used by Russia to consolidate its military annexation. Once again the issue has been totally confused so hidden agendas can be followed to all our demise. Doesn't Czech Poland Georgia and the rest of them realize they are screwed and for oil? WTF!

Russia’s campaign to redraw the map of Europe is based on the propagation of misinformation. On Wednesday on this page, Mr Medvedev asserted that Georgia attacked South Ossetia. In fact, our forces entered the conflict zone after Russia rolled its tanks on to our soil, passing through the Roki tunnel into South Ossetia, Georgia. Mr Medvedev also claimed Russia had no designs on our territory. Why then did it bomb and occupy Georgian cities such as Gori? Why does it continue to occupy our strategic port of Poti? The next step in Russia’s invasion script, of disinformation and annexation, is regime change. If Moscow can oust Georgia’s democratically elected government, it can then intimidate other democratic European governments. Where will this end?
