Dying for democracy in Syria or for naught?

5Years later now what do you think? Then: Dying for democracy in Syria: Syria has been ruled ruthlessly by one party for nearly 50 years. Sooner or later the Assad regime will end. The international community must help the opposition by funding various opposition leaders to build political parties, so we can be ready to govern. It must help build democratic institutions and educate the population about political accountability, an alien concept to most Syrians, who have known only the anti-democratic Assad regime.

In short, we need all the help we can get to build a free, fair nation, one that represents all Syrians and respects human rights, the judiciary, international law and human life. Syrian lawyer and former judge Haitham Maleh has been awarded many prizes for his human rights activism. He lives part time in Europe and part time in the Middle East.

Aleppo blast: 'Several hurt' in new Syria unrest: At least three people were killed in the blast, which targeted a bus in the Tall al-Zarazeer district, said the opposition Syrian Observatory of Human Rights. At least four people were killed in the city on Thursday when security forces fired on protesting students.
In Damascus, two blasts caused damage on Saturday, but no-one was hurt. It is not known whether the people hurt in the Aleppo explosion were civilians or members of the security forces, a Syrian Observatory of Human Rights spokesman told AFP.

Two bombs explode on Damascus highway: Two bombs detonated on a central Damascus highway on Saturday, destroying nine cars, residents said, in a further sign that rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad are shifting tactics towards homemade explosives.

Deadly blasts have shaken major cities as insurgents seek to even the odds between their outgunned forces and the tanks, artillery and helicopters in Assad's military arsenal. On April 30, explosions blew the fronts off buildings in the northern town of Idlib, where state TV reported nine people killed and 100 wounded, including security personnel. Three days earlier, a suicide bomber killed nine, including security men, at a Damascus mosque, the Interior Ministry said.

We knew Al Qaeda has been calling its fighter to come to Syria for a Jihad against the Government and suicide bombings are their calling card but they have become the calling card in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan not because Al Qaeda is spreading but what works is. Plus you can bet Assad is killing some of his own to gain favor so he can continue and worsen the slaughter.

It is the growing rebel force of military deserters that are turning into the most potent fighting force. I tried to find figures as to how many soldiers have now defected but could not. At last count 25,000 had defected but as of late despite atrocities by pro Assad forces the defections are increasing.

Hundreds at once and by a lead force so close to the palace has got to be making Assad nervous. I wish I had saved the link but I read a story from Syria that the Alawite minority was getting nervous. Some were getting nervous in Latakia and other Alawite areas that the other religions were going to come chop off their heads.

I now believe they have reason to worry. In the beginning we knew it would take the whole military to defect were this insurrection to have a chance and it looks like it is happening despite knowing Assad followers would put them to death if caught. At the very least the rebels will in the end know they are not fighting only the Alawite minority but Lebanese and Iranian IRG.

Any way you look at it the Russian's and Chinese have drawn the line on what they view as US hegemony and with the blood of the Syrian people. Taking us on is why Putin stole himself an extended election. This is just the opening battle in the war to determine who is going to lead the way into the future. It will not be short or good. As time progresses wars do not get easier they get much worse. Be very concerned!

Russia says Assad will not back down first but shouldn't he?

First, Russia knows damn well that Bashar Al-Assad is wantonly slaughtering as many people as they can. They have resorted to daily attacks on cities and citizens including Alawite's Assad's own sect using tanks and fighter jets. They have purposely resorted to strafing bread lines, killing doctors and bombing hospitals. It is ludicrous for Russia to say it is wrong to expect Assad to stop this first and withdraw its troops from the cities..

Assad will not back down first: Russia said Saturday it would be "naive" for outside powers to expect Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to withdraw his troops first from cities and then wait for the opposition to follow suit. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said such a demand on the regime amounted to a call for "capitulation" that Western and Arab nations had no right to make.

"When our partners say that the government must stop first and withdraw all its soldiers and weapons from cities - and only then call on the opposition to do the same - well, this is a completely unworkable scheme," said Lavrov. "Either people are naive or it is some sort of provocation," he noted in answering questions from students at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

On top of that, we knew from day one that if there was to be success for the rebels against Assad who is killing hundreds of his own people every day that almost the entire military would have to defect and take on Assad. As of August 27 the FSA said more than 60,000 of all ranks and all disciplines from the highest ranking General on down have defected with many more waiting for their chance to defect.

Long Wait to Defect From Assads Forces: “We don’t go on patrol any more. We spend the days without leaving the barracks, following the news on TV. We have not fired a single bullet since the beginning of the revolution.” Some have suggested that the Democratic Unionist Party (PYD), the dominant political party among the Kurds of Syria, may have negotiated truce with Bashar Al Assad’s government. Party chairman Salah Muslim has denied to IPS that there has been any agreement. Many within Syria also suggest that Damascus has abandoned this region in an attempt to distance Kurds from the Free Syrian Army forces.

Furat says he has “no problem whatsoever with the PYD.” But he can hardly hide his anxiety. “I tried to flee to Turkey but the Syrian army captured me and I was detained for ten days. Today it would be impossible to get back home due the myriad of checkpoints manned by both rebels and the government. “Many comrades say they will wait at their positions and put down their weapons when the FSA arrives, but nobody knows what will happen when the rebels reach this area. I doubt I’ll get my salary this month, so I’ll try to cross to Turkey or Iraq at the first opportunity.” Another policeman, Dilhar, recalls his recent defection.

Add this to the 23,000 Assad's murderers have already killed along with some 500,000 that have already fled the country and rightly so unless they had the will to stay and fight Assad, plus the knowledge that some 2 1/2 million people need aid aid, food, medicine, and shelter. Don't you think Assad should back off first?

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government forces had killed 27 people, while 12 soldiers died in the fighting. More than 23,000 people have died since the uprising against Assad began in March 2011, according to the U.K. based observatory. Two explosive devices also rocked an area near a government military unit in Damascus, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported on its website, without saying where it got the information. Al Arabiya television, citing a rebel group, said the bombing targeted the Syrian army’s command.

More than 2.5 million people need aid, protection inside Syria as China says safe zone will not work: "More than two and a half million people, including the refugees from Palestine and Iraq, are now in great need of the assistance and protection inside Syria," Eliasson said. "This is more than double the number (UN) Under-Secretary-General Valerie Amos reported to you in March." "The most pressing needs include water and sanitation, food and shelter, blankets and health care," he said. "Less than half of primary health care facilities and hospitals are now fully functional in Syria."

"The destruction of pharmaceutical plants and storage facilities is making drugs and equipment scarce," he said. "At the same time, the number of people in need of medical care increases." "Access to health facilities has become difficult or impossible in some areas due to violence, check points and fuel shortages," he said. "Food prices have tripled in some areas."

Syrian troops take town on refugee flight route: Syrian troops recaptured from rebels Thursday a border town used by refugees to cross to Jordan, activists said, an apparent bid by the regime to stem the flood of Syrians fleeing their country's civil war. Damascus meanwhile accused Cairo of stirring up violence in the country, as Syria lengthens the list of other Arab countries that it blames for its unrest. Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi called this week for Syria's president to step down in an indication of the increasing isolation of Damascus in the Arab world.

In the latest clashes, hundreds of Syrian soldiers backed by 20 tanks assaulted Tel Chehab, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and local activist Mohammed Abu Houran said. Rebels fought back but were pushed out. A Jordanian army officer living just across the border said by telephone that he had heard heavy shelling starting early in the morning, but that it had subsided by midday. "It sounded like the shelling came from tanks and armored vehicles," said the officer, who cannot be identified under standing army regulations. "God help the Syrian people."

This is no way to get the people on your side. Forcing them to stay in the cities without the basic necessities of life so you can eradicate them is not the way to success. Unless Russia comes out in the open to help Assad stay in power, despite Iran's, Russia's, and Hezbollah's help the rebels will persevere. It is what comes after that that is grossly disconcerting not only in rebuilding Syria but in preventing the devolution of the middle east into all out sectarian war and then WW3.

China calls for punishment of the murderer in Syria

China's murderers Assad and The Shabiha who started off as racketeers and smugglers

Syria massacre: UN team reaches Qubair village: The observers, who were fired at near Qubair village on Thursday, arrived in a convoy from Damascus. The Qubeir massacre - which has yet to be independently confirmed as no foreign journalists or U.N. staff have accessed the village - was the third significant discovery of bodies in about a week. In each case, opposition groups say a combination of government regular forces and government-backed militiamen, known as shabiha, were behind the deaths.

Assad's regime, however, dismisses any culpability, claiming that "terrorists" - a word the government uses to describe opposition members - are behind the deaths. In Qubeir, the government says Syrian soldiers entered the village on Wednesday to find nine civilian bodies already dead, their bodies burned. Until the U.N. monitors can get into the village, the vastly different accounts of what happened in Qubeir coming from the regime and the opposition cannot be reconciled.

Syrian troops shell rebel city as full-scale assault feared: Syrian troops on Friday shelled a rebel-held neighborhood in the flashpoint central city of Homs as President Bashar Assad's troops appeared to be readying to storm the area that has been out of government control for months, activists told The Associated Press.

The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees had no immediate word on casualties from the shelling of Hom's Khaldiyeh neighborhood. Amateur videos posted online showed a small white plane, apparently a drone, flying over Homs.

Free Syrian Army fears because of their success Assad will use Weapons of Mass Destruction next: They are using WMD it is called Shabiha.

FSA fears al-Assad may use WMDs, Another massacre reported in Syria, almost half of the 108 killed were children, Syrian regime militias execute en masse again A week after a ghastly massacre left 108 people dead in one town, a dozen factory workers were hauled off a bus and executed by pro-regime militias, Video posted by opposition activists showed bodies purportedly from the attack, Shabiha, Wikipedia, Syria regime still killing, lying : cnn live video.

FSA fears al-Assad may use WMDs: A source within the FSA informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the FSA has killed more than 300 members of al-Assad regime forces and pro-regime Shabiha militia over the past week. FSA fighters also informed the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that they had killed more than 100 al-Assad regime soldiers, in addition to destroying a number of tanks, in clashes throughout Syria, including Damascus and Idlib. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Chairman Rami Abdulrahman also informed Reuters News Agency that Syrian rebel forces had over-run and destroyed a number of army checkpoints in Idlib Governorate.

He pointed to the FSA’s success in manufacturing short-range “Nimr-4” rockets, adding “today, after the regime has widened the circle of its operations to include villages and cities, in addition to targeting demonstrators, it has incited a number of battles. The FSA commander claimed that the al-Assad regime will resort to utilizing weapons of mass destruction manufactured by Syria’s Scientific Research Center in the forthcoming period.

Another massacre reported in Syria, almost half of the 108 killed were children: The Syrian army and militiamen loyal to President Bashar al-Assad are again accused on Thursday of standing behind a massacre of villagers, few hours ahead of a crucial meeting at the UN Security Council. At least 100 people, including 40 children and women, were murdered in the village of Mazraat al-Kabir, near Hama, in the center of the country. This latest development should increase pressure by the international community, but also intensify the risk of civil war.

But for now, the international community seems paralyzed by its divisions between, on one hand the West and the Arab countries, and on the other hand, by the three countries that support the regime of Bashar al Assad - Russia, China and Iran. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the village of Mazraat al-Kabir and the neighboring town of Maazarif, about 20 kilometers from Hama, had been bombarded by Syrian forces.

Assad says Syrian government not responsible for 'monstrous massacres': Syrian President Bashar Assad offered no new concessions Sunday from his embattled administration, instead assailing a “foreign conspiracy” against Syria and rejecting any government role in recent “monstrous massacres” across the nation. “The truth is that even monsters do not do what we saw, especially in the Houla massacre,” Assad said, referring to the house-to-house executions last month of more than 100 people, mostly women and children, in the central township of Houla.

The killings in Houla drew international repudiation of Syria. United Nations officials said evidence pointed to pro-government death squads as the killers. But authorities in Syria blamed the massacre on foreign-backed “terrorists” seeking to frame Syrian security services and undermine a U.N. peace plan. “The crisis is not internal,” Assad said, repeating his government’s long-term assertion that foreign powers are stoking the uprising aimed at ending his rule. “Rather, it is a foreign war with internal tools, and everybody is responsible for defending the homeland.”
Shabiha and their friends are doing it!

Syrian regime militias execute en masse again: A week after a ghastly massacre left 108 people dead in one town, a dozen factory workers were hauled off a bus and executed by pro-regime militias, opposition activists said Friday. The 12 workers were executed Thursday by Shabiha --or pro-government gangs -- in Bouayda village, outside the Homs province city of Qusair, the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. They were lined up against a wall and shot, the group said.

Video posted by opposition activists showed bodies purportedly from the attack. A narrator said bullets holes could be seen in the wall. CNN could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. The latest gruesome report comes days after 13 people were discovered bound and slain in another turbulent swath of Syria. U.N. observers said those bodies were found about 30 miles east of Deir Ezzor, in the eastern part of the country, on Tuesday night.

Syrian president: 'We are facing a war from abroad': Yeah but of his own making

: Syria violence kills 89, including 57 troops: NGO: Violence in Syria killed 89 people on Saturday, including 57 soldiers, the largest number of casualties the military has suffered in a single since an uprising began in March 2011, a watchdog said. The casualties also included 29 civilians and three army defectors killed in various regions of the country in shelling by regime forces or in clashes or gunfire, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Asked about the high number of troops killed in recent days, the Observatory's Rami Abdel-Rahman told AFP: 'This relates to the sharp increase in clashes across the country. Troops are vulnerable to heavy losses because they are not trained for street battles and are therefore exposed to attacks.' 'What exacerbates those losses is that the army is fighting locals of those towns and villages, whether military defectors or civilians who took up arms against the regime, who know the area inside and out and enjoy public support.'
Yep home developed terrorists sick of being slaughtered because they want to get out from Bashar Al-assad and his Russian, Iranian, Chinese, brutality!

Syrian president: 'We are facing a war from abroad': Syrian President Bashar al-Assad addressed his country and the newly-elected People's Assembly on Sunday, decrying what he called the "terrorists" and "conspiracy" against Syria.
"At this time, we are facing a war from abroad," al-Assad said in his first public speech since January. "Dealing with it is different from dealing with people from inside." His remarks stand in stark contrast to what the opposition and many world leaders have said for more than a year -- that al-Assad's forces, not external "terrorists," are behind a sustained slaughter stemming from their crackdown on dissidents.
BS!

At the very least the rebels will in the end know they are not fighting only the Alawite minority but Lebanese and Iranian IRG.
They are being slaughtered compliments of Russia and China in the first battle to control the direction of the world into the future.

It is a little too late for Russia to think she is going to gain the favor of the people so Russia will be allowed to stay in Syria once Assad is one way or the other removed so they will continue to find in Assad's favor. With that said I understand Russia now questions our account of the massacre and suspects U.S. and British Commando's. Those poor people are being sacrificed to take on US Hegemony!

There are two very important issues here, both middle east changing! Right from the very beginning of this carnage that was only to keep Russian and Iranian interests in the middle east alive and in control we knew the IRG would be in the front of this and the carnage would be horrific and dwarf what we saw during the the protests of the stolen election to keep Ahmadinejad in control. We were right!

We just heard that the IRG was taking control of the carnage to keep Iran and Russia's interest protected. That satisfies 2 purposes. It gives Syria the cover to say they are not doing this and that terrorists are. Terrorists are and they are called the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They are ruthless and have a free hand. No one is on the ground to verify who is doing the killing as independent sources are no allowed and killed by "terrorists" if they are found.

Second and most important is Russia: From the beginning they have and still are supplying Syria with the arms and ammunition to slaughter the people who only want their freedom. From the beginning Russia and China have been blocking the rest of the world from helping the people of Syria. Syrian people are being sacrificed only to fight what Russia views as US Hegemony!

You know Putin just got himself reelected as President, he did this so he could be at the helm of Russia as he like me knows 100% that world war is our future. He plans on marshaling China who is rapidly building a more formidable military and whoever he can to take on US hegemony.Russia watched helplessly as we had our way in Libya. Putin blames what is happening in Syria on our interference and Libya for training the protesters to fight against Bashar Al-Assad. Russia and Iran will not let this be another Libya but?

Putin is going to do everything possible to keep us from helping the Syrian people and I really feel for them. I do not see this going down the way Libya did and Iran and Russia are going to make sure it does not. I am afraid the Syrian people are going to be sacrificed, sacrificed in what is merely an opening salvo in this the wars for future dominance. God help us!

* We now know Iran and probably Russia are preparing for Syria to fall to the protesters or at the very least into total disarray for years. Proof of that is a renewed effort to replace Syria with Lebanon as the new vanguard against what is viewed as US hegemony in this war for middle east and future world dominance.

The US is being smart here for a change. They are guaranteeing Russia that they will not disrupt Russia's nuclear sub Base or their interests in Syria and the middle east. They know for a fact that the Syrian people after Russia directly facilitating their slaughter are not going to be allowed to stay in Syria once Assad is removed regardless of what Medvedev and Putin say so this is just beginning whether Assad stays or goes. Those poor Syrian people!

Syria regime still killing, lying as Syrian regime militias execute en masse again: "Shabiha"

Fallout from Syrian massacre intensifies as world leaders sit and watch

Fallout from Syrian massacre intensifies: Fresh bloodshed in Syria on Wednesday underlined once again that soaring Western condemnation in the wake of a massacre has done little to halt the tide of violence.Regime forces battled with rebels in various areas, including the capital of Damascus and the provinces of Damascus Countryside, Aleppo and Hama.
Intense shelling destroyed homes in Homs, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based opposition group . Shelling was also reported in the cities of Douma, Haish and Kafromah, the group said. At least 10 people were killed, including five in Douma, the opposition Local Coordination Committees of Syria said.

Annan Leaves Syria Without Government Steps to Implement Plan: Speaking by phone from Damascus, U.N. spokeswoman Sausan Ghosheh says that Annan flew out of Syria on Wednesday morning local time.

The U.N.-Arab League envoy met with President Bashar al-Assad the previous day and later told reporters that he appealed to the Syrian leader for "bold steps" to create momentum for the peace plan "now, not tomorrow." Ghosheh said she was not aware of any such steps being taken.
Annan's plan called on the Syrian government to withdraw heavy weapons from civilian areas and abide by a truce with rebels last month, but attacks by both sides have continued.

Russia, China Oppose Syria Intervention: Russia said Wednesday it was still satisfied that a nonbinding U.N. Security Council statement Sunday was a "strong enough signal to Syria," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said, according to Interfax. "We believe consideration in the Security Council of any new measures to influence the situation now would be premature," Mr. Gatilov added.

Russia has twice vetoed Security Council resolutions condemning President Bashar al-Assad's government over 15 months of bloodshed. Responding to Mr. Hollande's remark, Mr. Gatilov said Russia "categorically opposes any external intervention in the Syrian conflict, as it would only aggravate the situation with unpredictable consequences for Syria and the entire region."

China restates opposition to military intervention in Syria: China on Wednesday reiterated its opposition to military intervention in Syria amid outrage of the massacre of 108 people, nearly half of them children, and called again for all sides to support mediation efforts by peace envoy Kofi Annan. The killings in the village of Houla, some of which the U.N. peacekeeping chief said bore the hallmarks of pro-government militias, have increased pressure on Western governments to intervene.

"China opposes military intervention and does not support forced regime change," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told a daily news briefing. "The fundamental route to resolving (the crisis) is still for all sides to fully support Annan's mediation efforts."

US remains opposed to military action in Syria: Shocking as it was, the massacre of more than 100 Syrian villagers is unlikely to galvanize a military assault like last year's campaign in Libya to oust Moammar Gadhafi. The killings, however, did provoke the strongest international condemnation the United States and other nations could muster.

The U.S. joined more than a dozen nations in expelling Syrian diplomats on Tuesday, and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney pushed for further, direct action to dislodge Syrian President Bashar Assad. But President Barack Obama's spokesman emphasized more limited options. "We do not believe that militarization, further militarization of the situation in Syria at this point is the right course of action," said White House press secretary Jay Carney. "We believe that it would lead to greater chaos, greater carnage."

At the very least the rebels will in the end know they are not fighting only the Alawite minority but Lebanese and Iranian IRG.
They are being slaughtered compliments of Russia and China in the first battle to control the direction of the world into the future.

Any way you look at it the Russian's and Chinese have drawn the line on what they view as US hegemony and with the blood of the Syrian people. As time progresses wars do not get easier they get much worse. Be very concerned!

Rebels kill seven pro-Assad militiamen after convoy carrying observers for protection was hit, 40 killed in 2 huge Damascus explosions?

Rebels kill seven pro-Assad militiamen: Syrian rebels killed at least seven pro-government militiamen in a Damascus suburb on Wednesday, activists said, and a large explosion hit a convoy accompanying United Nations ceasefire observers in the southern province of Deraa. The Damascus attack with rocket-propelled grenades on a bus carrying the fighters through the suburb of Irbin prompted the army to seal off the area and respond with shelling, activist Mohammad Saeed said. They were carrying observers to protect Assad's murderers so good!

Damascus carnage points to al-Qaeda:More than 50 people are dead and some 370 wounded after a pair of massive bombs exploded during the morning rush hour near a military intelligence building in Damascus, the deadliest attack since the Syrian uprising began 14 months ago.The blast fuelled fears of an expanding Islamic militant element among the forces seeking to oust President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian uprising shifts toward suicide bombings. Al Qaeda's handiwork? Assad? (+video):

Fresh attacks target symbols of Syrian state power: In fresh attacks on symbols of state power, twin suicide bombs exploded Monday near a government security compound in northern Syria and rockets struck the central bank in Damascus, killing nine people and wounding 100.

The regime and the opposition traded blame, accusing each other of dooming a United Nations plan to calm violence that has largely failed so far. The head of the U.N. observer mission acknowledged that his force cannot solve the country's crisis alone and urged both sides to stop fighting. The attacks are the latest in a series of suicide bombings that started in December and have mostly targeted Syrian military and intelligence positions.

Syrian uprising shifts toward suicide bombings. Al Qaeda's handiwork? (+video): Twin suicide bombings today in the restive city of Idlib in northwest Syria left at least eight people dead and suggests that the nascent insurgency against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad could be shifting to jihadist tactics that have been a hallmark of conflicts in Iraq and the Palestinian territories.

Violence erupted in two Syrian provinces on Tuesday, with a rights group reporting 10 civilians dead in an army mortar attack and 12 soldiers killed in a fire-fight with rebel gunmen: An activist on the Turkish border, Tareq Abdelhaq, said 35 people had been wounded and that some were being carried 25 km (15 miles) along mountain tracks to receive emergency treatment in refugee camps dotted along the frontier.

"Some are being smuggled over the border to Turkey. They had to carry the wounded and go through the mountains to avoid checkpoints on the road," Abdelhaq said. "One guy died on the way. He was 19 years old and had very bad injuries." In the eastern Deir al-Zor province, troops hit back with mortar and heavy machinegun fire after losing a dozen of their own to insurgents, killing at least one villager and destroying a school.

We knew Al Qaeda has been calling its fighter to come to Syria for a Jihad against the Government and suicide bombings are their calling card but they have become the calling card in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan not because Al Qaeda is spreading but what works is. video of Syria burying rebel alive as Syrian forces, rebels clash in Latakia when 100's of armed Syrians defect

Syrian troops video'd burying rebel alive, Rebels attack Syrian soldiers from sea, several killed, ‎Hundreds of soldiers defected from the Syrian armed forces on Sunday in the outskirts of Damascus and in the port city of Latakia,

Rebels attack Syrian army from sea, several killed: ‎Gunmen in inflatable dinghies killed several security officials in an attack on a military unit on Syria’s Mediterranean coast, state media said on Saturday, the first seaborne assault reported during the revolt against the government of President Bashar Al Assad as the Lebanese navy intercepted three containers of weapons destined for Syrian rebel forces on board a ship originating from Libya.

Syria’s official Sana news agency said several gunmen and soldiers died in fighting that followed the coastal attack near the northern port of Latakia, 35 km south of the Turkish border.

Syrian forces, rebels clash in Latakia: At least 10 military defectors died during clashes in a village in the Damascus countryside, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Three civilian fatalities were reported in various cities, including Homs, where a man died after a gang supporting the regime attacked him with knives, according to the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights.

Defectors also clashed with forces in the coastal city of Latakia, where a presidential palace is located, according to the observatory. The new attacks came a day after a bomber struck near a mosque in the capital of Damascus, killing nine people -- most of them government forces, Syrian state-run media reported. It described the attack in Midan district as a "terrorist bombing."

Hundreds of soldiers defected from the Syrian armed forces on Sunday in the outskirts of Damascus and in the port city of Latakia, where large explosions were heard near the presidential palace, the Syrian Media Center reported. Sima Malaki, spokesperson of the center, which represents the Syrian opposition, said dozens of soldiers defected from an army unit that was positioned near the presidential palace in Latakia.

The official news agency SANA reported that “one of the military units stationed off the coast of Latakia thwarted an attempt by an “armed terrorist group” trying to infiltrate from the sea,” quoting an unnamed military source. The Syrian Observatory for Human rights and activists confirmed that clashes broke out between Syrian troops and armed opposition forces in the village of Borj Islam near a presidential palace early Saturday morning. Activist Sema Nassar said the fighting began as “officers and soldiers of a military base near the presidential palace ... deserted with their weapons.”

I tried to find figures as to how many soldiers have now defected but could not. At last count 25,000 had defected but as of late despite atrocities by pro Assad forces the defections are increasing. Qatar: Arab Force Should Impose Syria Peace

Arab Force Should Impose Syria Peace
Qatar: Arab Force Should Impose Syria Peace: The Qatari Foreign Minister has called for an Arab peace-keeping force to enter Syria in order to enforce a ceasefire in the crisis-hit country."There is a need to create an Arab force and open humanitarian corridors to provide security to the Syrian people," said Sheikh bin Jassim al Thani in a speech at the Friends of Syria international meeting in Tunisia.

This should be a middle east problem and solution. The United States and Russia and China must stay out of it but to to all our detriment we will not. That includes any future shipments of arms and ammunition. I like the idea of an Arab peace keeping force and an Arab solution because that would also take Persian Iran out of the mix theoretically.

Gulf Arab states push forceful Syria intervention |: Speaking at the meeting called to escalate pressure on Assad over his crackdown on 11 months of protests, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Feisal said he supported arming the rebels. "I think it's an excellent idea," he said at the start of a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who warned Assad would pay a heavy price for the violence in Syria.

Russia boosts arms sales to Syria: Russia faces a growing international outcry over its arms sales to Syria but shows no sign of bowing to pressure and has even increased deliveries of arms that critics say are helping keep President Bashar al-Assad in power.

The biggest importer of arms to Syria, Russia sold Damascus nearly $1 billion worth of arms including missile systems last year, while shipments of hard-to-track Russian small weapons have risen since the uprising against Assad started, government defectors say. In January, the Russian ship Chariot, loaded with arms and ammunition, turned off its radar and sailed quietly to Syria to avoid attracting the attention of world powers increasingly frustrated by Russia and China’s refusal to back UN Security Council resolutions aimed at ending 11 months of violence.

Because of George Bush and Dick Cheney's war mongering China and Russia were ramping up to take the US and its allies on. I was hoping with the election of Obama that would all come to an end but it has not. Since Bush's illegal attack on Iraq to get into the middle east to go after Iran and others the west and on the other side Iran has done everything to get this going. I was hoping we could keep it contained but it does not appear so unless China watches the US and Russia weaken themselves enough for China to devour the remainder.

Any way you look at it I do not see Russia China, Israel and the US staying out of this. It seems at this point that if the US and its allies are on one side Russia and China are going to take the other and none of us should matter in Syria including Israel and Iran.

Regardless I still see a total civil war Sunni against Shiite erupting in the Middle East because Bush freed up Iran to instigate it on their end and they are. I still am concerned we will have a permanent presence in the Middle East but feel we will have to largely leave Iraq to her own demise. We will still be there but it looks like Yemen, and the Gulf of Aden will be the prime focus unless Iran gets something going between the US and Iran.

Man I reiterate: Those people are on their own even though Iran is helping Syria and at least Russia And China are sanctioning murder and at least Russia is sending tons of arms and ammunition to Syria to be used in killing fellow Syrians. The civil war Russia keeps warning will be the result of UN intervention is here. Russia China, Iran, they are all responsible for creating this civil war. They made armed intervention by the protesters necessary because the peaceful protesters were labeled as terrorists and being slaughtered.

So far 40,000 soldiers have defected to help the protesters. I said when soldiers first defected that it would take the whole army as they are fighting the IRG too even though for now it is denied. We have heard for a while now that Arab observers are pulling out and staying. I have to believe Russia is up to no good saying they want more observers knowing Syria is using the observers to kill as many people as possible.

In fact knowing what Russia is suggesting a few weeks ago we suggested, swell the numbers of Observers and the next time they are dragged into this by being fired on let them take up arms, claim self defense, and they are in against Syrian forces. The war and the breakdown will be out in the open.

Syria, Iran and Bashar Al-Assad appear to be the masters. From the beginning of the chaos in Syria we have been saying that Iran more specifically the IRG (Iran Revolutionary Guard) was in Syria helping if not leading the way in trying to quell the uprising. You know Bashar's only friend Iran is dictating that this slaughter is a necessity though Syria knows how to brutalize its people all to well. Iran will not allow a Democracy at her door step further isolating her.

That in itself defies logic because Iran is Shiite and Bashar and the ruling minority is Sunni like Al Qaeda and Saudi Arabia who we said would come to the aid of the citizens who are largely Shiite. It is all very confusing. Al Qaeda would not destroy Sunni security offices killing Sunni forces or would they?

However Bashar has already proven capable of killing his own to blame it on protesters and further his cause. He is also flat out lying saying protesters have killed 2000 of his security forces, a number pulled out of the air in order to kill and quell those against him. This Bashar created civil war is barely starting unless he leaves and he will not. As long as Russia keeps the 60 ton deliveries of arms and ammunition coming Syria will be all right. Iran will never allow Syria to fall to Democracy.

Russia is also right that the world must stay out including them and China and Iran not just the US, the EU, and Israel. This is an Arab problem and the middle east should solve it unless WW3 is the goal. What do you think? Are we using Syria to get into Iran?

Part 1 of 2 today: Looks like proxy war in Syria will be the start of war in the middle east

Russia, China and Iran showed support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, vowed no other foreign intervention allowed
Russia, China and Iran showed support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday, days before an international meeting likely to pile more pressure on him to step down in the face of an increasingly bloody uprising. : Assad met a senior Russian politician in Damascus, who reiterated Moscow's support for his self-styled reform program and spoke out against any foreign intervention in the conflict, Russian and Syrian news agencies reported.

China accused Western countries of stirring up civil war in Syria, and two Iranian warships docked at a Syrian naval base, underscoring rising international tensions over the near year-long crisis. Government forces pressed on with their crackdown on the anti-Assad uprising

Iran Warns US Over Syria as Crackdown Grows: Two Iranian warships docked in a Syrian port on Monday as a senior Iranian lawmaker denounced the possibility that the Americans might arm the Syrian opposition, adding to the international tensions over the nearly year-long crackdown by the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Activist groups reported intensified attacks on the besieged Baba Amr neighborhood in the central city of Homs. They said the government’s inability to eradicate the opposition there despite weeks of bombardment could be keeping the military from striking deeper and harder into other parts of the country where armed resistance and rebellion is believed to be growing, including Hama and Idlib to the north.
Iran? They are already in Syria. What about Israel?

Reports: Israeli commandos act in Syria, Jihadists on Jordan border: Confessions made by Turkish officers arrested in Syria last week reveal that Tel Aviv is involved in the insurgency led by "armed gangs" in the country to overthrow the regime of Bashar Assad, an Iranian news agency reported.

The correspondent of the Iranian Fars News Agency in Damascus, citing Syrian security sources, claimed that seven out of the 49 Turkish officers arrested, have admitted being trained by the Israeli Mossad, to carry out terrorist operations. They also claim to have initiated contacts with Saudi Arabia and Qatar. One of the Turkish officers indicated that Israeli commandos infiltrated the Syrian territory and provided assistance to the free Syrian army. He said the Mossad has also dispatched a team to Jordan to train members of al-Qaeda who came from Libya in order to send them to Syria to fight the regular Syrian army .

Syria’s army escalated its shelling of the city of Homs as President Bashar al-Assad accused “foreign sides” of providing weapons and money to rebels.

This should be a middle east problem and solution. The United States and Russia and China must stay out of it. That includes any future shipments of arms and ammunition.

United States and Al Qaeda team up! Wave of the unpredictable future?

Activist: Syrian army uses human shields on tanks as the United States and Al Qaeda team up!

USA and AL QAEDA Team against Syria! *BREAKING NEWS* -

First a short video summation by Newsy of Al Qaeda involvement in Syria http://www.newsy.com/videos/al-qaeda-increasingly-involved-in-syria/

Activist: Syrian army uses human shields on tanks: Syrian government forces are using detained civilians as human shields, placing them on tanks in the besieged city of Homs to prevent the opposition Free Syrian Army from fighting back, an opposition activist said.

The latest tactic came as shelling rained on city's Baba Amr neighborhood once again Sunday, residents say, marking at least the eighth straight day President Bashar al-Assad's troops have pummeled Homs in an attempt to wipe out the opposition. "My house is dancing. I am almost dead because of the siege," said the opposition activist, named Omar.
Syrian rebels repel government troops: An activist group says Syrian rebels have repelled a push by government tanks into a key central town held by forces fighting against President Bashar Assad's regime.

Arab League Calls for Arab-UN Peacekeeping Force in Syria: Syrian security forces pounded parts of the restive governorate of Homs as the Arab League called for the formation of an Arab-United Nations peacekeeping force. Wow! What will come next from the Syrian people's axis of evil, Russia, China, and Iran?

In fact knowing what Russia is suggesting a few weeks ago we suggested, swell the numbers of Observers and the next time they are dragged into this by being fired on let them take up arms, claim self defense, and they are in against Syrian forces. The war and the breakdown will be out in the open.

Syria uprising live: Syria continues the slaughter as Russia warns the world not to stop it

Syria uprising: live

Syrian Troops Pound Homs as Russia Warns Against Intervention: Syrian troops are continuing their assault on the protest hub of Homs, reportedly killing dozens of civilians, as Russia said the world faces a growing "cult of violence" in international affairs and warned the West against outside intervention in Syria.

Explosions Rock Northern Syrian City of Aleppo: The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported residents saying there were three blasts. Aleppo, Syria's main commercial city, has been relatively quiet since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's regime erupted in March.

Homs fears big push by Syrian tanks on stronghold: Syrian tanks massed outside opposition neighborhoods in Homs on Friday as President Bashar al-Assad's forces bombarded the city for the fifth day and residents expected a major push to subdue the centre of revolt against his rule. Assad, bolstered by Russian support, ignored appeals from world leaders to halt the assault and explosions rocked the relatively peaceful city of Aleppo in the north, fuelling fears the country would descend into all-out civil war. Fears of an all out civil war, what the hell do they call this?

Turkey Wants to Set Up Group to Pressure Syria: Speaking in an interview with Turkish television channel NTV, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Ankara "could not stand by and leave Syria to its own destiny," stressing that the new grouping of states should meet promptly in Turkey or another country in the region to try to resolve the Syria conflict. "We are determined to establish a broad-based forum to promote international understanding with all countries concerned," the foreign minister said.

I think Turkey is right in being aggresive but they better forewarned that they will bear the brunt of Iran's assault. This should be a middle east problem and solution. The United States and Russia and China must stayt out ot it. That includes any future shipments of arms and ammunition.

Man I reiterate: Those people are on their own even though Iran is helping Syria and at least Russia And China are sanctioning murder and at least Russia is sending tons of arms and ammunition to Syria to be used in killing fellow Syrians.
