First Syrian in space defects from Assad regime even as Prime minister defects

Iran won't abandon Assad

First Syrian in space defects from Assad regime: Before crossing into Turkey, Gen Faris visited the headquarters of the Free Syrian Army in his home town of Aleppo in a show of solidarity with rebel forces battling Assad's troops in Syria's commercial capital. The Anatolia news agency reported that it was the general's fourth attempt to defect.

Gen Faris was born in 1951 in Aleppo, where the Syrian army and air force was pounding rebel positions on Sunday ahead of a threatened ground assault on the northern city. A graduate of the Aleppo's military pilot school in 1973, he joined a Soviet crew on the orbiting space station Mir in 1987, for which he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and also received the Order of Lenin.

Syria crisis: prime minister 'defects' - live updates: Live• Riyad Hijab defects to Jordan, official claims • State TV appoints caretaker PM after Hijab's 'sacking' • Bomb hits third floor of Damascus state TV building • Rebels in Aleppo braced for major assault

Hijab's replacement has already been appointed, Reuters reports. I have the names of the 2 other Ministers also, but was told to keep on hold. There are 2 other Ministers with Hijab, not 3.

Aleppo rebels wait anxiously for Bashar al-Assad's elite to attack: "We have many more weapons than we used to have," he said. "The regime is running away and they are tired, so tired. Even more than us. I would say that of the force they are bringing to fight us, only 20% are brave and committed to battle. "We had around 120 defectors this morning alone."

If the consistent rumours among rebel ranks are right, the Free Syrian Army will need many more men to defend its gains in Aleppo in the coming days. Rebel commanders across northern Syria say the rump of the regime's army, including all its key divisions and units, is travelling north from Damascus, Hama and Idlib to join the battle. "We are expecting them on Tuesday," said a rebel colonel from Idlib, who has sent spotters to monitor the progress of the regime reinforcements. "They are sending the Republican Guards."

Syrian Forces Continue Aleppo Assault: Syrian state media say a bomb has exploded at the state television building in Damascus, wounding several people. The station remained on the air Monday following the blast, which ripped through the third floor of the building. A pro-government, private TV station, which itself was hit with a deadly blast in June, broadcast images of the building's damaged walls, wires dangling from a collapsed ceiling and people walking through smoke-filled hallways.
Syrian opposition activists are reporting continued attacks by government forces in the northern city of Aleppo Monday.

* Forget it Assad the game is up! Your die hard followers now want you dead and gone and even the Shabiha your hand picked murderers are abandoning you trying to melt back into the countryside they have helped to destroy in your name. Syria as you and your father knew it is gone. Only God knows what will happen now before it spreads throughout the middle east and no one will like it.

* It would behoove Russia to cut its losses and evacuate its people and evacuate its sub base but it will not. With China and Russia both with at least 11 powerful warships in the area along with hundreds of fighter jets and soldiers I absolutely believe they plan on hanging around and fighting for their last naval hold in the middle east. Putin is done cutting and running!

Right now China is with Russia but when all is said and done I think it behooves China to side with the west and the Syrian people then when the dust settles if it is as vicious as it may be China will be able to be in a position to take advantageous of it. * Rebels use captured tank to attack airbase, pound military airport

Rebels Bombard airport and military base in Aleppo

Syrian rebels pound military airport: Growing in numbers and clout, Syrian rebels battered a military base near Aleppo as the battle for the nation's most populous city raged Thursday. Rebels used tanks seized in previous clashes with government troops to pound the Menagh military airport, the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. The base is north of Aleppo, Syria's commercial capital. The main military airfield in the region is southeast of the city.

* Rebels use captured tank to attack airbase: Syrian rebels turned the gun of a captured tank against government forces on Thursday, shelling a military airbase expected to be used as a staging post for army reinforcements in the battle for Aleppo.More than 180 people were killed in Syria on Wednesday, 133 of them civilians and 45 of them members of Assad's forces, according to the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The rebels' morale was boosted when they turned a government tank's gun on the Menakh airbase 35 km (25 miles) north of Aleppo - a possible staging post for army reinforcements.

"We hit the airport using a tank that we captured from the Assad army. We attacked the airport a few times but we have decided to retreat at this time," a rebel fighter named Abu Ali told Reuters. The pro-opposition Observatory said government forces at the airbase had used artillery and rocket launchers to bombard the town of Tel Rifaat, which lies between the airbase and Aleppo, Syria's commercial center.

The rebels are consolidating areas they control in Aleppo, attacking police posts and minor military installations with some success. They claim to have seized three police stations this week. "When the streets were clear we found the bodies of at least 35 men," a resident, who gave his name as Fares, said by phone from Jdeidet Artouz, southwest of Damascus. Almost all of them were executed with bullets to their face, head and neck in homes, gardens and basements."

Video's of Rebels killing the killers: rebels 'execute shabiha' in Aleppo - live updates:

Syria crisis: rebels 'execute shabiha' in Aleppo - live updates: We were in a truce with the Berri clan, which are shabiha clan. We asked them to stay at home and not to support any part of the fight but they did not comply to the truce. We were attacking one of the police stations in the city and Berri clan began shooting against us from behind.

They killed 15 members of the FSA. We were in big clashes with them and were able to kill 20 of them and arrest another 50. Then we held a field trial for them. We have judges and lawyers who are in the opposition. They found that seven of the Berri clan were involved in killing and they decided to execute them. Others are kept for trial after the collapse of the regime

Turkey launches military drill on Syrian border in apparent show of muscle ...: The Turkish government last week said Turkish Kurdish rebels have seized control of five towns along the border in collaboration with Syria’s Democratic Union Party, or PYD— an ethnic Kurdish grouping. Turkey alleges that many of the rebels migrated to civil-war engulfed Syria from bases in northern Iraq.

The Turkish military has targeted rebel bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, in northern Iraq several times in the past, and the government hinted that it would not hesitate to do the same against any rebel position in Syria.

Syrian chargé d'affaires in London resigns as even the Shabiha flee Aleppo

Highlights: The Syrian chargé d’affaires in London has resigned saying he is no longer willing to represent a "violent and oppressive" regime. Video showing rebels celebrating on captured tanks and removing supplies. Colonel Abdel Naser, the commander in charge of the battle told the Guardian's Luke Harding that his troops seized eight tanks and 10 armoured vehicles, as well as mortars and lots of weapons.

He said one rebel fighter was killed. The rebels now control a strategic land corridor in northern Syria from Turkey all the way to Aleppo's outskirts. • A Syrian brigadier general who was deputy chief of police in Syria's Latakia region, has defected to Turkey. The official says the general was among a group of 12 Syrian officers who crossed into Turkey late Sunday.

An Iranian official was assassinated in Syria, The Shabiha are abandoning Assad and Russia says they could evacuate their people but that is a Ruse!

The Free Syrian Army claims to have overrun two police stations in Aleppo, and other rebels say a key checkpoint north of the city, Syria's commercial capital, has also been captured. The fight for Syria's second city has become the focus of the 16-month-old rebellion against president Bashar al-Assad. Middle East correspondent Matt Brown, who is just outside Aleppo, says if the rebels lose the city, they may well lose the uprising. He says because of that, rebels are trying hard to up the ante.Today I’ve been looking at what I’d guess you’d call a production line for an urban insurgency.

I’ve been looking at improvised explosive devices, home-made bombs being made, mixed up and set in I guess what are five or seven litre paint tins with the detonators in them. We saw a man mixing the powder for that. And they were what military professionals call shaped charges. So they’re designed in such a way that the metal at the front of them shoots out and can penetrate armour like the tanks that the regime’s been using. We’ve also been hearing about them capturing tanks from the Syrian government forces. But what I was seeing today was them getting anti-aircraft guns ready that they’ve seized from a very important military base nearby. Several of them have already been put on the back of trucks and sent into the battle for Aleppo.

The bodies of soldiers were strewn along the airport road. Gasoline was not available or was prohibitively expensive. A catastrophic battle loomed between armed rebels and government forces. It was time to get out of Aleppo, Syria. “It was very bad,” said an Aleppo businessman who escaped with his family to Lebanon, one of thousands of Syrians of varied economic backgrounds who have fled their strife-ridden homeland in recent weeks.

“There is no traffic police and no garbage collectors,” said Ayman, in his mid-40s, dressed in light blue track pants and a T-shirt, as he fiddled with his cellphone in the hotel lobby. “Cars were driving in the wrong direction near Saadallah al-Jaberi Square. The police are sitting inside police stations and don’t open the door.” Among those fleeing, Ayman said, were plainclothes government enforcers known as shabiha. The opposition circulated photos of suspected Aleppo-based shabiha on Facebook, a not so thinly veiled threat.

Live Updating:Syrian chargé d'affaires in London resigns - Monday 30 July: • The Syrian chargé d’affaires in London has resigned saying he is no longer willing to represent a "violent and oppressive" regime. Khaled al-Ayoubi was the most senior Syrian diplomat serving in London. His departure was announced by the UK Foreign Office, which described it as "another blow to the Assad regime". It urged others to follow his example.• Rebel fighters claim to have captured the Hryatan military base and Anadan checkpoint, north-west of Aleppo. Video showed them celebrating on captured tanks and removing supplies.

The brigadier general's defection raises the number of generals to have defected and crossed into Turkey since the start of the 17-month-old uprising to 28, according to AP. Latakia is the de facto capital of the Alawite heartland on the Mediterranean coast,

Opposition sources said Wednesday that an Iranian diplomat was assassinated in Damascus. No further details were available.

Meanwhile, gunfire and explosions were heard Tuesday night in several neighborhoods of Damascus.Early Wednesday, an explosion and gunfire were heard in Baghdad street and in Bab Touma, the Christian quarter of the capital, according to the Local Coordination committees (LCC). According to the LCC, the area of Tadamoun, in the south of the capital, was targeted by mortar fire early Wednesday morning.
"Until late Tuesday night, sounds of explosions and gunfire were heard intermittently in several neighborhoods, including Kafar Sousse (south)," said an AFP journalist . Limited clashes were resumed Monday in Damascus including Kafar Sousse after a rebel attack which included RPG rocket firing against an army checkpoint.

Syrian President Bashar Assad on Wednesday released his first public statement since four of his top security officials were assassinated two weeks ago, marking armed forces day. In the press release, Assad said that the Syrian army's battle with rebel forces would determine the fate of his country, and praised soldiers for confronting what he said were "criminal terrorist gangs." "The fate of our people and our nation, past, present and future, depends on this battle," Assad, who has not spoken in public since four of his top security officials were assassinated two weeks ago, said in the written statement.

China calls for punishment of the murderer in Syria

China's murderers Assad and The Shabiha who started off as racketeers and smugglers

Syria massacre: UN team reaches Qubair village: The observers, who were fired at near Qubair village on Thursday, arrived in a convoy from Damascus. The Qubeir massacre - which has yet to be independently confirmed as no foreign journalists or U.N. staff have accessed the village - was the third significant discovery of bodies in about a week. In each case, opposition groups say a combination of government regular forces and government-backed militiamen, known as shabiha, were behind the deaths.

Assad's regime, however, dismisses any culpability, claiming that "terrorists" - a word the government uses to describe opposition members - are behind the deaths. In Qubeir, the government says Syrian soldiers entered the village on Wednesday to find nine civilian bodies already dead, their bodies burned. Until the U.N. monitors can get into the village, the vastly different accounts of what happened in Qubeir coming from the regime and the opposition cannot be reconciled.

Syrian troops shell rebel city as full-scale assault feared: Syrian troops on Friday shelled a rebel-held neighborhood in the flashpoint central city of Homs as President Bashar Assad's troops appeared to be readying to storm the area that has been out of government control for months, activists told The Associated Press.

The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees had no immediate word on casualties from the shelling of Hom's Khaldiyeh neighborhood. Amateur videos posted online showed a small white plane, apparently a drone, flying over Homs.

Free Syrian Army fears because of their success Assad will use Weapons of Mass Destruction next: They are using WMD it is called Shabiha.

FSA fears al-Assad may use WMDs, Another massacre reported in Syria, almost half of the 108 killed were children, Syrian regime militias execute en masse again A week after a ghastly massacre left 108 people dead in one town, a dozen factory workers were hauled off a bus and executed by pro-regime militias, Video posted by opposition activists showed bodies purportedly from the attack, Shabiha, Wikipedia, Syria regime still killing, lying : cnn live video.

FSA fears al-Assad may use WMDs: A source within the FSA informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the FSA has killed more than 300 members of al-Assad regime forces and pro-regime Shabiha militia over the past week. FSA fighters also informed the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that they had killed more than 100 al-Assad regime soldiers, in addition to destroying a number of tanks, in clashes throughout Syria, including Damascus and Idlib. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Chairman Rami Abdulrahman also informed Reuters News Agency that Syrian rebel forces had over-run and destroyed a number of army checkpoints in Idlib Governorate.

He pointed to the FSA’s success in manufacturing short-range “Nimr-4” rockets, adding “today, after the regime has widened the circle of its operations to include villages and cities, in addition to targeting demonstrators, it has incited a number of battles. The FSA commander claimed that the al-Assad regime will resort to utilizing weapons of mass destruction manufactured by Syria’s Scientific Research Center in the forthcoming period.

Another massacre reported in Syria, almost half of the 108 killed were children: The Syrian army and militiamen loyal to President Bashar al-Assad are again accused on Thursday of standing behind a massacre of villagers, few hours ahead of a crucial meeting at the UN Security Council. At least 100 people, including 40 children and women, were murdered in the village of Mazraat al-Kabir, near Hama, in the center of the country. This latest development should increase pressure by the international community, but also intensify the risk of civil war.

But for now, the international community seems paralyzed by its divisions between, on one hand the West and the Arab countries, and on the other hand, by the three countries that support the regime of Bashar al Assad - Russia, China and Iran. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the village of Mazraat al-Kabir and the neighboring town of Maazarif, about 20 kilometers from Hama, had been bombarded by Syrian forces.

Assad says Syrian government not responsible for 'monstrous massacres': Syrian President Bashar Assad offered no new concessions Sunday from his embattled administration, instead assailing a “foreign conspiracy” against Syria and rejecting any government role in recent “monstrous massacres” across the nation. “The truth is that even monsters do not do what we saw, especially in the Houla massacre,” Assad said, referring to the house-to-house executions last month of more than 100 people, mostly women and children, in the central township of Houla.

The killings in Houla drew international repudiation of Syria. United Nations officials said evidence pointed to pro-government death squads as the killers. But authorities in Syria blamed the massacre on foreign-backed “terrorists” seeking to frame Syrian security services and undermine a U.N. peace plan. “The crisis is not internal,” Assad said, repeating his government’s long-term assertion that foreign powers are stoking the uprising aimed at ending his rule. “Rather, it is a foreign war with internal tools, and everybody is responsible for defending the homeland.”
Shabiha and their friends are doing it!

Syrian regime militias execute en masse again: A week after a ghastly massacre left 108 people dead in one town, a dozen factory workers were hauled off a bus and executed by pro-regime militias, opposition activists said Friday. The 12 workers were executed Thursday by Shabiha --or pro-government gangs -- in Bouayda village, outside the Homs province city of Qusair, the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. They were lined up against a wall and shot, the group said.

Video posted by opposition activists showed bodies purportedly from the attack. A narrator said bullets holes could be seen in the wall. CNN could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. The latest gruesome report comes days after 13 people were discovered bound and slain in another turbulent swath of Syria. U.N. observers said those bodies were found about 30 miles east of Deir Ezzor, in the eastern part of the country, on Tuesday night.

Syria regime still killing, lying as Syrian regime militias execute en masse again: "Shabiha"

Shabiha, Wikipedia US posts image of 'probable mass burial' in Syria's Houla: Robert Ford, the US ambassador to Syria, posts Facebook message calling Houla massacre "the most unambiguous indictment of the regime to date"; singles out Iran for supporting Assad through lethal, non-lethal means.

Syria regime still killing, lying : cnn live video

At the very least the rebels will in the end know they are not fighting only the Alawite minority and the blood thirsty Shabiha but Lebanese and Iranian IRG.

They are being slaughtered compliments of Russia and China in the first battle to control the direction of the world into the future. Russia says it will keep supplying weapons and ammunition but they are not for use against civilians. I mean WTF?

Any way you look at it the Russian's and Chinese have drawn the line on what they view as US hegemony and with the blood of the Syrian people. Taking us on is why Putin stole himself an extended election. This is just the opening battle in the war to determine who is going to lead the way into the future. It will not be short or good. As time progresses wars do not get easier they get much worse. Be very concerned!

It is a little too late for Russia to think she is going to gain the favor of the people so Russia will be allowed to stay in Syria once Assad is one way or the other removed so they will continue to find in Assad's favor. With that said I understand Russia now questions our account of the massacre and suspects U.S. and British Commando's. Those poor people are being sacrificed to take on US Hegemony!

There are two very important issues here, both middle east changing! Right from the very beginning of this carnage that was only to keep Russian and Iranian interests in the middle east alive and in control we knew the IRG would be in the front of this and the carnage would be horrific and dwarf what we saw during the the protests of the stolen election to keep Ahmadinejad in control. We were right!

We just heard that the IRG was taking control of the carnage to keep Iran and Russia's interest protected. That satisfies 2 purposes. It gives Syria the cover to say they are not doing this and that terrorists are. Terrorists are and they are called the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They are ruthless and have a free hand. No one is on the ground to verify who is doing the killing as independent sources are no allowed and killed by "terrorists" if they are found.

Second and most important is Russia: From the beginning they have and still are supplying Syria with the arms and ammunition to slaughter the people who only want their freedom. From the beginning Russia and China have been blocking the rest of the world from helping the people of Syria. Syrian people are being sacrificed only to fight what Russia views as US Hegemony!

You know Putin just got himself reelected as President, he did this so he could be at the helm of Russia as he like me knows 100% that world war is our future. He plans on marshaling China who is rapidly building a more formidable military and whoever he can to take on US hegemony.Russia watched helplessly as we had our way in Libya. Putin blames what is happening in Syria on our interference and Libya for training the protesters to fight against Bashar Al-Assad. Russia and Iran will not let this be another Libya but?

Putin is going to do everything possible to keep us from helping the Syrian people and I really feel for them. I do not see this going down the way Libya did and Iran and Russia are going to make sure it does not. I am afraid the Syrian people are going to be sacrificed, sacrificed in what is merely an opening salvo in this the wars for future dominance. God help us!

* We now know Iran and probably Russia are preparing for Syria to fall to the protesters or at the very least into total disarray for years. Proof of that is a renewed effort to replace Syria with Lebanon as the new vanguard against what is viewed as US hegemony in this war for middle east and future world dominance.

The US is being smart here for a change. They are guaranteeing Russia that they will not disrupt Russia's nuclear sub Base or their interests in Syria and the middle east. They know for a fact that the Syrian people after Russia directly facilitating their slaughter are not going to be allowed to stay in Syria once Assad is removed regardless of what Medvedev and Putin say so this is just beginning whether Assad stays or goes. Those poor Syrian people!
