John Kenneth Galbraith

John Kenneth Galbraith was dead on when he said corporations were too powerful and had to be reigned in. Instead they are still getting bigger and more powerful. We are now a Corporatocracy controlled by the corporations. Our Supreme court gave them the right to spend as much money as they want to get what they want.

We are seeing right now the dangers to the planet and society of giving too much control to oil and energy companies. Remember when Bush and Cheney met secretly in the White House with the so called energy Czars? They decided what was right for them and their and Cheney and Bush's wallets while disregarding us and the planet. Cheney said they did not have to use the 1/2 million dollar acoustic valve that would have prevented this disaster.

The rest of the world by law has to use them but here they do not because this country belongs to the corporations not we the people. The companies that were working on the platform being questioned by Congress merely lied and put the blame on everyone else. Another worthless inquisition as those being questioned are in charge not that charade of a Congress. We have got to take our country back somehow!

In the 1950s, John Kenneth Galbraith cautioned that corporations were becoming too powerful. In the 1960s he warned President Kennedy about the dangers of unilateral military action abroad. Son of a gun!

He continually criticized conservative administrations' fiscal policies. He tried to bring environmental issues into the limelight. Son of a gun!

"He was a half of a century ahead of his time," said his biographer, Richard Parker.

His influence remained relevant long after his 1958 work "The Affluent Society" argued that the American economy produced individual wealth but did not adequately address public needs such as schools. Son of a gun!

The Canadian-born economist and unabashed liberal served as adviser to Democratic Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Bill Clinton and was John F. Kennedy's ambassador to India.

Galbraith, who was outspoken in his support of government intervention in social and economic problems, became a larger figure on the American political scene after World War II. How the hell can you justify ignoring a source of wealth like this?

Although an economist, his impact reached far beyond economic circles. He thought across disciplines, Benjamin Freeman, a Harvard economics professor and friend of Galbraith's said, "Not just in the field (of economics), but broadening the discourse to encompass the world at large."

With having advised the likes of Presidents Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Clinton I think he had a proven record of success.

His 1958 work "The Affluent Society" argued that the American economy produced individual wealth but did not adequately address public needs such as schools. Son of a gun! He hit the nail on the head, John Kenneth was 50 Years ahead of his time! We keep seeing the results of not listening to John Kenneth Galbraith.

Funny I was just doing a little search about the two parties just before reading this. After being inundated with what the republicans have to say in the media day after day I decided to pop over to the dnc site to see what they are working on. Three issues or should I say two really were presented. Increasing jobs, rolling back the oil company subcities, and the easter egg hunt at the white house.
As I know the oil companies will carry on with their cushy position it's obvious that both parties are bought and sold by these titans of the energy industry and nothing's going to change.
So there's your problem. Our leaders have become the employees of big business and not the American people.
Galbraith didn't happen to mention just how we get out of this situation did he?

Big companies are in charge that is why we call this a corporatocracy! Boehner made the mistake of mentioning the roll back and Dems rightly picked it up but it will never happen.

The oil companies jumped right on it and said it will make prices go up and they will damn well make sure they do. They have us by the balls!

To change things, we have to boot our politicians, and the new crop has to believe that serving our country is better for them than taking bribes to betray our nation.

This won't be easy to do.

I don't think it can be done. I think that our politicians will keep winning the skirmishes against our nation until they've won the ware and we're utterly destroyed.

I don't think it can be done either Wease but it has to happen if we are to get out of this. Stupid me I thought doing the right thing and making the people and the Government prosper was the goal. It is for us but we are so screwed with these corrupt bastards in control. We have to get rid of them!

Good Evening Jim (lil after 8pm Dallas) .... But much of this I also have for year's blamed on the people ... I mean ... we dont pay atencion to shit, we dont vote (at least in any significant number's) we fall to all these financial scam's from from multiple mortgage's, etc to not controlling our spending addiction's, we live beyond our mean's, I have neighbor's who have maybe 5 car's in the parking spot's/ drivewayz, who dont use them all, etc, etc. On top of all that, we run around promoting "birth" of human life as if it's entertainment, and every goddamn thing we do is to get more/ consume garbage, wealth, etc, etc ... and frankly we are one of the most wasteful people I have seen, go ahead and have a half a dozen babies even though you live in the city (dont have tarm or such) ... dont worry, we are ignorant enough to not pay for a bloody abortion of a baby born deformed and addicted to crack and/ or heroin ... we will pay over a half million a year, to keep it alive ... because were loving. It dont matter if these piece's of shit in some of these countries just use us, spit on our flag's and give us a royal fucking of our's live's ... we should love those who hate us because it's part of our loving value's (frankly I wouldnt give half these f'n nation's a pot to piss and a can of pork and bean's ... and if they f'd with us, I would bomb their asses so heavy ... you wouldnt see one news station asking if "we won the war" ... we would win the first week). Year's ago I was with some buddies (30 or so year's ago) watching a ballgame in Busch stadium with the old St. Louis Cardinals (NFL) ... a buddy said ... aint this cool the stadium is named after "beer"? I told them ... "ya'll wont think it's cool in the future if every stadium is named some corporation ..." Try to find a stadium beside's Cowboys Stadium in Dallas that dont have a corporate name/ title. Another thing ... we the people have all the bloody tool's to change this cesspool overnight if we REALLY acted ... were a hopeless society frankly that dont do shit accept buy what we get ... we DESERVE the mess were in as I have wrote in my journal. I know alot of people wont agree with me, and talk the "whoa is us" thing ... how were victim's, etc, etc ... we buy into this shit in huge mass .... when you bend over and hand folk's a tube of lube and smile your going to get f'd. We also live in this nauseating fantasy that folk's give a shit about us, and were God's little personal Teddy Bear's to be loved and played with ... it's not only f'n nauseating but stupid. And our pop culture concern's are stupid as well ... were more concerned if lesbian's can wear pink beret's in military combat than the homeless vet's that line the street's in the thousand's in cities like Los Angeles ... you want the truth? We act pathetic. Just my opinion Jim.
