The deadliest group of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan "the Haqqani's" have not conducted a complex large-scale attack in the capital city of Kabul for seven months, its momentum stymied as elite American-led commandos have escalated raids against the militants’ bomb makers and logisticians. In the past three months alone, commandos have carried out 1,784 missions across Afghanistan, killing or capturing 880 insurgent leaders. Taliban Fighters Appear Quieted in Afghanistan

New and increased drone attacks come in Khyber, an area abutting Afghanistan’s Nangahar province, that’s been notably drone-free. It has become an area for militants fleeing military action in South Waziristan. They also bring the drone-strike tally for this year up to 113, more than twice last year’s 53 strikes. But those figures don’t begin to tell the whole story.

As you know, the US is increasingly taking matters into its own hands inside Pakistan. The Haqqani's network and their increasingly foreign fighters have become the main focus after 9 years of fighting. The Haqqani's Network's North Waziristan leadership -- usually called the Miram Shah Shura consists of a number of Haqqani's family members and closely associated long-serving commanders.

At the top of the network is Sirajuddin Haqqani who oversees the group's political and military activities and is the main liaison to the Mullah Muhammad Omar led Quetta Shura Taliban, the Taliban's leadership body (named for the capital of Pakistan's Baluchistan province). He is also one of the network's liaisons to Pakistani Taliban figures and al-Qaeda.

He travels or should I say "did" regularly into Afghanistan to coordinate with field commanders and occasionally to Peshawar and South Waziristan to connect with militants there. Remember Bowe Bergdhal? There are many field commanders in Afghanistan, but turnover is high because many get killed or captured. The most prominent is Mullah Sangin, who is believed to be holding Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl a captured U.S. soldier and Zakim Shah the movement's shadow governor of Khost province who reportedly was just killed.

* Yes Mullah Sangin of the Sangin province where the tribal uprising is taking place against the Taliban.The notorious Taliban stronghold has been bitterly contested by insurgents and drug traffickers ever since British troops arrived in 2006, but the government revealed that tribal elders, backed by some local insurgents, have agreed to stand up to the Taliban.

It was also announced that that one group of insurgents have already handed in their weapons in an attempt to join a local peace process in Sangin. They are fighting back, this is what has been happening in Pakistan and what had to happen in Afghanistan. Under the arrangement, local Taliban fighters will stop attacking US and Afghan forces and will keep non-local insurgents out of the Sarwan-Qala area of the upper Sangin Valley, according to a spokesman for the Helmand governor Gulab Mangal.

Foot patrols by government forces will continue and local people will be expected to help clear areas of homemade bombs and tip off local police as to their whereabouts.

"There was no signed agreement but we believe this will create the opportunity for other Taliban fighters to come and join the government," said Daoud Ahmadi. He said that the Afghan army, police and US forces were all represented at the traditional tribal Shura last Saturday and that some of the tribal elders had been given authority by the local Taliban to speak on their behalf. I was listening to ex Taliban fighters and their Commanders who fought NATO and the US for 6 years saying they figure the Government now cares about them so they have now stopped, They point out besides they are sick of fighting and we are leaving anyway. Great! That Is what I was hoping for from the beginning. At least long enough to let us leave then they can kill each other again.

America and NATO must get out! We have been there over 9 years, more than twice as long as WW2, now our longest war! Our soldiers did their job leave now with heads held high not our tails between our legs like in Saigon! Give food and supplies to the Afghans and if they want their freedom they will fight for it like the Pakistani tribes are.This is Afghanistan graveyard of Nations. Cheat history get out now this really is beginning to look promising. Now if we'd just start next year as planned and finish withdrawal by 2014 or sooner.

Richard Holbrooke's death could mean victory for the US and Afghanistan

I am sorry Holbrooke died but his time of my way or the highway does not work in Afghanistan. He was commended for his great job with China Korea, and Vietnam where he got his start but hell those were all failures to me. I will have to say we will get more success now that he is gone. US Afghan policy 'hits al-Qaeda' Much of the momentum achieved by the Taliban has been arrested, the review says and that is true for many reasons! Obama does not get the credit he deserves with Afghanistan! Of late some 100 Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters and commanders has been killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan due to drone attacks and forays into Taliban strongholds.

We have had success of late but we will have more now I suspect. Great! That Is what I was hoping for from the beginning. At least long enough to let us leave then they can kill each other again.
Now that Holbrooke is gone I can see some of the good ideas now having some weight:

The people’s attitude was oh well, one corrupt Government is as good as the next .At least the Government is not killing and maiming the people in the name of Sharia law. The government might be corrupt but it is better than the alternative.

This is big and keeps getting better and better! I am pretty pleased that Gulbuddin Hekmatyar Representatives of his major insurgent faction have presented a formal 15-point peace plan to the Afghan government of Hamid Karzai. This is the first concrete proposal to end hostilities and get us the heck out of there. Obama can do this, he is doing it.

This would not even be a thought under Bush. As we said in Iraq the Afghan's too must come together so we can leave. They can then turn on each other as I fully expect to be the case in Iraq and also in Afghanistan. Anyway representatives of Hezb-e-Islami met with representatives of the Government. This is huge as Hezb-e-Islami, or Islamic operates under a separate command from the Taliban, it has links to the Taliban leadership and Al Qaeda and has fought on a common front against foreign forces in Afghanistan.

They only want what I want and that is a withdrawal date for all foreign forces on Afghani soil. That is doable under Obama. We can really do this! They want us to start in July and have it completed in 6 months. The 6 month time frame would have to be flexible and they would have to police the still militant Taliban and keep the peace amongst themselves even if only until we leave as I expect. This is working and freeing Obama to start disengaging next year. Some compromise can be worked out here. Now if only the Taliban will cool it and cooperate. Their insurgency will only force us to stay. I hope they are smart enough to quell it until we start to disengage. I really think we can succeed in Afghanistan if success is "leave us alone so we can claim success and get out as schedule by "2014"

The people’s attitude was oh well, one corrupt Government is as good as the next .At least the Government is not killing and maiming the people in the name of Sharia law. The government might be corrupt but it is better than the alternative.

Afghans uniting with the Taliban and Al Qaeda to throw out the west as Koran burning protests continue to spread and erupt

The damage is done and so are we in Afghanistan. This is really going to be bad now. I at least began to think we could frame something we could lie and call victory but no more. We better get out now period! Look at the videos if not read the links too. The Taliban, Al Qaeda, Muslims flocking to Afghanistan from around the world now view themselves as one with the sole goal of supporting the mujahedeen and repelling the infidel invaders.


Pastor Jones agreed to not burn the the Koran because the Imam who was going to build the Muslim educational center (the so called Mosque) said he would move it but now says he made no deal. According to Jones they are liars and moving the Mosque  would please God. What the hell is that? I don't know about God but the damage was done and warnings have gone out to all Americans everywhere not just to the soldiers as the Taliban have weighed in along with Robert Gates.

That Pastor is a jerk and has zero credence so we have to wait and see but Donald Trump does have credence and offered 25% more than the current owners paid if the so called mosque would be built 5 blocks away. I also heard from the developers that plans to build the center have not been changed. WTF? The deals are on the deals are off, what the hell? The damage is done anyway!

I am really concerned for my sons in combat still. Just the talk of this has only hurt us more and motivated other Muslims to take action against us and our troops. This is really going to piss off all those so called terrorists and guarantee many more. I am really concerned for our troops. I refuse to believe that isn’t Religious terrorism. That FFing idiot! That pervert Jones is not a Christian and he screwed the entire world over with his Religious terrorism against Islam. The high world wide attention giving to the threat of burning the Koran in America will be another recruiting tool for Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and all Islamists looking to destroy us and it already is. What the hell is wrong with people? That Pastor Jones had a sign on his church in Cologne Germany calling the Mayor a homo, he was kicked out of the Church for stealing money, his daughter said the church was a cult, and that fruit loops warnings of a Muslim takeover of the world predates 9/11.

Protesters on both sides have a responsibility to police their own. We are the Muslims are not as it serves their purpose of inciting civilians to their cause and that ass pastor gave them what the Muhammad pictures and all the rest have not. That ass screwed our soldiers and us, whose side is he really on?


The Taliban are calling for American Muslims to have Jihad against us. There are protests in Indonesia home of the largest Muslim population and around the world. As you would expect violence and fervent anger are the worst in Afghanistan, I understand why the people would be violent and angry as the zealots amongst them are whipping them up but I have to wonder how many of them are really Taliban, Al Qaeda, and other hard line Sharia sympathizers. We just continue to be our own worse enemy. Damn, damn, damn!

We are in for some serious shit now if we already weren't and we were. I reiterate go home or not we have in the past wronged Islam and now like it or not we are in the fight of our lives in what I call Bush's forever war that will make the 100 years war look short. Good luck top us!

Afghan militants present doable 15-point peace plan to the Afghan government!

You may remember that after Hekmatyar and other mujahedeen forced out the Soviets he was against the Taliban and swore allegiance to the Government who then twice elected the ruthless leader as prime minister. His ruthlessness is what led the people to foolishly think the Taliban would be better. Hekmatyar was kicked out of the Government after he was caught trying to overthrow it which led him to join the Taliban.

You know Now that the Taliban and Hezb-e-Islami are killing each other along with civilians. As you know, we heard that up to 100 of Hekmatyar's fighters and the Taliban have switched sides to join the Government. The civilians have to join them and start helping the Government fight those that want to enforce Sharia law on them. It is working in Pakistan and it can work in Afghanistan too. This just keeps getting better. We discussed it many times in the past. Remember the militants world started crumbling with the capture of Mullah Baradar

Taliban clashes with rival Afghan militants kill 60 plus many civilians in the crossfire!

I am sorry for those civilians or any innocent civilians of every country that is starved or killed while those fighting for superiority and their agenda pursue their goal. I hope those civilians finally realize they do not matter and the Taliban is not fighting for them as they want the people to think. They are fighting each other to be the leader people be damned as is the case around the world and right here as we witness every day between Democrats and Republicans. Time to turn on Hezb-e-Islami and the Taliban so the people can live their way not extremists way.

Not only did the rivals in Hezb-e-Islami kill each other and many innocent civilians but dozens of Hezb-e-Islami fighters had defected to the government during the fighting. Hezb-e-Islami is the second biggest militant group in Afghanistan and loyal to former PM Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. 40 Hezb-e-Islami fighters were killed along with 20 Taliban fighters. Keep killing each other, this just keeps getting better.
