Remember this? It's real! Navy test-fires first working prototype rail gun
Remember this? US navy to position three aircraft carriers near Iran: US President Barack Obama has warned that Iran’s leaders have to understand that “the window for solving this issue diplomatically is shrinking.” The US navy will have three aircraft carriers positioned near Iran in the coming days, and is doubling the number of minesweeping ships and helicopters based in the Gulf. Israel, meanwhile, is keeping up rhetoric that makes many think the Jewish state — the Middle East’s sole if undeclared nuclear power, which is not involved in the talks — is serious about possibly attacking Iran, with or without US support. A majority of Israel’s 14-member security cabinet now supports Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in launching a pre-emptive strike on Iran in a bid to end its nuclear programme, the Israeli newspaper Maariv reported on Thursday, citing political sources it did not identify. “Israel is very close to the point when a very tough decision should be made — the bomb or the bombing...
It's real! Navy test-fires first working prototype rail gun: Navy officials told FoxNews.com this week that the rail gun, which relies on magnets rather than explosives to fire bullets at several times the speed of sound. Rather than relying on chemical propellants like gunpowder, the rail gun uses an electromagnetic pulse to create strong magnetic fields that propel the conductive bullet on a sliding metal sled and out of the barrel -- at 4,500 to 5,000 miles per hour and as far as 100 nautical miles away in about 5 minutes, with possible future expansion to 220 miles, according to ONR.The Navy’s most advanced shipboard gun in operation today, the 5-inch,54-caliber lightweight gun, has a range of about 13 nautical miles
Navy wants commando 'mothership' in Middle East: The Pentagon is rushing to send a large floating base for commando teams to the Middle East as tensions rise with Iran, al-Qaeda in Yemen and Somali pirates, among other threats. In response to requests from U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, the Navy is converting an aging warship it had planned to decommission into a makeshift staging base for the commandos.
Unofficially dubbed a “mothership,” the floating base could accommodate smaller high-speed boats and helicopters commonly used by Navy SEALs, procurement documents show. Navy documents indicate that it could be headed to the Persian Gulf, where Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz. The deployment of the floating base could also mark a return to maritime missions for SEAL teams, which for the past decade have spent most of their time on land in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The US Navy recently performed its first test of its new HEL system, destroying a small boat in a matter of moments. We've got the video above. The Navy has begun field testing early versions of its high-energy laser (HEL).
This concept of fighting with rail guns that fire non explosive projectiles at supersonic speeds to put holes in ships 100 miles away and destroy their munitions at the same time and firing lasers to destroy the engines of small boats to disable them is at first glance a concept strange and hard to comprehend in an environment of today's high tech weapons.
However make no mistake, these weapons are very high tech, still under design, and geared towards an enemy and location we will be facing in the future. It is no coincidence that these weapons were tested at the same time the military tested its most challenging test yet of its ballistic missile defense system, blasting an incoming target out of the skies over the Pacific Ocean.
I remember in 2009 when Obama first announced he was scrapping Bush's missile defense system that did not work other than to instigate war for the Aegis system used on land or water to go after land or water fired intermediate-range missile's. This was the first successful test of a land fired missile from a ship. Of course defending against Iran in the future is the announced goal. Iran can already reach Europe. US Military Successfully Tests Missile Defense System
That said, at the same time we test the high energy laser successfully its goal to be soon on every navy vessel in order to be fired from the ship at the motors of small boats setting them on fire thus disabling them rendering them useless and dead in the water. Supposedly the HEL would come of use against pirates but it is no surprise that Iran banks heavily on its use of small high powered boats in the Gulf. After watching the video disabling Iran's small boats used by the IRG is the least of the Lasers use. It has been worked on for decades and can take out Iran's much bragged about missiles by themselves.
These Lasers are designed to take them out of the equation. It is no surprise that both Bush and Iran with the IRG (Iran Revolutionary Guard) did everything possible to instigate war and it was only because cooler heads prevailed that they were not successful in this endeavor. There were many provocations as you may remember by fast boats just like the one taken out in the video above. We now have a defense against them.
It is only a matter of time before we at the very least have a "confrontation" with Iran. I always figured it would come from the Gulf as Gates said the navy as of yet is not over extended. Iran's primary navy weapon seems for now to be those high powered boats. We seem to be building a defense and offense capable of handling a confrontation with Iran and the IRG. At this point between Iran and Syria a confrontation is coming so I am glad to see we seem to be as prepared for it as possible. You still have to wonder about Russia and China who promise to stop US hegemony, that after all is why Putin is becoming Russia's President again.

Railguns ready to go: Rail guns are able to fire a shell at 7 times the speed of sound using electro magnetics.
Here comes the BOOM: The Real Rail gun of the US Navy: The new age of highly advanced weaponry is upon us. It’s loud, it’s powerful, and it’s incredibly, effectively, destructive.I’m talking (this time) about rail guns. Real, functional, powerful rail guns. The U.S. Navy has announced their plans to start placing these immensely destructive weapons on their ships.
Weapons that can tear through walls like a pencil punctures a balloon. If you thought lasers were going to change the game, rail guns are going to blast the doors wide open.
Rail guns are well tested and ready to go. Rail guns are able to fire a shell at 7 times the speed of sound using electro magnetics.

Navy commando Mother ship to Gulf of Hormuz to thwart Iran

| Navy commando mother ship heading to the Gulf |
US sends floating base for special forces to Gulf to thwart Iran: US officials have revealed that a military build-up in the Gulf region includes the deployment of warships, F-22 stealth fighter jets and a new amphibious base to launch special forces attacks. Officials told the New York Times newspaper that Washington would view any attempt by Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz as a "red line" triggering a US military reaction.
"The message to Iran is, 'Don't even think about it,'" the daily quoted a senior Defense Department official as saying on condition of anonymity. "Don't even think about closing the strait. We'll clear the mines. Don't even think about sending your fast boats out to harass our vessels or commercial shipping. We'll put them on the bottom of the Gulf." The US Navy has doubled the number of minesweepers in the area to eight as well as sending the amphibious landing craft.
Iran says test-fires missiles over threats of attack: Iran's official English-language Press TV said the Shahab 3 missile with a range of 1,300 km (800 miles) - able to reach Israel - was tested along with the shorter-range Shahab 1 and 2 and other missile classes.
"The main aim of this drill is to demonstrate the Iranian nation's political resolve to defend vital values and national interests," Revolutionary Guards Deputy Commander Hossein Salami was quoted by Press TV as saying. He said the tests were in response to Iran's enemies who talk of a "military option being on the table". That also means Iran is theoretically able to reach US bases and interests in the area.

Tehran's hollow Hormuz strait threat: The Islamic Republic’s goal may still be more financial than military. Iran’s economy is teetering. In the past nine months, Iran’s currency has lost a third of its value against the dollar. Unemployment and inflation are both in the double digits. To keep afloat, Iran needs high oil prices. Should the price of oil fall below $80 per barrel, even the brutal Revolutionary Guards may not be able to maintain domestic stability for long. They know that by simply threatening tanker traffic, they can drive up the price of oil, adding hundreds of millions of dollars to their coffers. You know they are concern number one!
First I must say by now we are all use to middle eastern nation's threatening their perceived enemy with burning hell on earth whether they can bring it or not. Saddam Hussein did it with WMD to keep Iran at bay. Iran right now is doing it to the west to keep us and increased sanctions at bay. It will not work and we are already prepared for them.
Any military action will be to Iran's demise and she knows it. Iran makes 80% of her revenue from the gulf and the strait of Hormuz. First Iran can not shut down the Strait and any attempt would shut down Iran.

Iran drafts bill to block Hormuz to Gulf oil tankers a hollow threat?
![]() |
| The Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf beyond it, as seen from the International Space Station in 2003. Iran is to the right. |
Iran drafts bill to block Hormuz for Gulf oil traffic: "There is a bill prepared in the National Security and Foreign Policy committee of Parliament that stresses the blocking of oil tanker traffic carrying oil to countries that have sanctioned Iran," Iranian MP Ibrahim Agha-Mohammadi was quoted by Iran's parliamentary news agency as saying. "This bill has been developed as an answer to the European Union's oil sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Iranian threats to block the waterway through which about 17 million barrels a day sailed in 2011 have grown in the past year as U.S. and European sanctions aimed at starving Tehran of funds for its nuclear program have tightened. A heavy western naval presence in the Gulf and surrounding area is a big impediment to any attempt to block the vital shipping route through which sails most of the crude exported from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq and nearly all the gas exported from Qatar.

Russian military threatens pre-emptive strike on missile defense facilities Nato to move ahead with missile shield anyway
Russian military ups the ante on missile defense: Russia's top military officer has threatened to carry out a pre-emptive strike on U.S.-led NATO missile defense facilities in Eastern Europe if Washington goes ahead with its controversial plan to build a missile shield.President Dmitry Medvedev said last year that Russia will retaliate militarily if it does not reach an agreement with the United States and NATO on the missile defense system.
Chief of General Staff Nikolai Makarov went even further Thursday. "A decision to use destructive force pre-emptively will be taken if the situation worsens," he said at an international conference attended by senior U.S. and NATO officials. Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov also warned on Thursday that talks between Moscow and Washington on the topic are "close to a dead end."
Nato to move ahead with missile shield: “It is the first step, but a real step, toward providing full coverage for all Nato populations, territory and forces in Europe,” he wrote. However, the alliance and Russia have failed to reach a compromise on the system, which Russia fears would thwart its nuclear deterrent despite Nato assurances that it is aimed at Iran and other threats.
Moscow has demanded legally-binding guarantees that the missile shield will not undermine its arsenal, but Nato refuses to enter into such an agreement and has instead offered political reassurances. Ratcheting up the heat, Russia warned this month that it might have to deploy new missiles in Europe to potentially take out elements of the controversial shield.Russian Chief of Staff General Nikolai Makarov said one option was for Russia to station short-range Iskander missiles in its Kaliningrad enclave near Poland.
Now what? Bush was using the missile defense shield to instigate Russia to war! Putting it in Czechoslovakia was by no means the best position for the system. Britain more than once expressed an interest in having it on their soil. They were flatly refused. I have always agreed with Russia that putting the system on the door step was a direct affront to them and was targeted at them. Putin had expressed his concerns vehemently. Russia even suggested working on the system jointly and of course was flatly refused.
I had high hopes for cooperation even before Obama met with his Russian counterpart and hinted that depending on Russia's stance he might be amenable to altering Bush's plan for a sedentary missile shield in Czechoslovakia and Poland. It was not even known if That MDS worked as we were told it did. It had never been tested in a realistic multiple fire missile situation which in fact is what would be encountered.
Obama did consult our allies including Czechoslovakia and Poland and let them know we would still be there for them. Despite the negative rhetoric we were hearing from the likes of Partisan war monger John McCain Europe is not now in danger and Czechoslovakia and Poland betrayed but once again quite the opposite is true or so we thought. If you remember. if the MDS was to be deployed there Russia had threatened long ago to once again turn its nuclear missiles in their direction.
Russia had even volunteered to stop work on their own missile defense shield. Remember this? Nato chief proposes missile shield to include Russia
Also Russia has said it wants to take part in the proposed NATO-backed anti-missile shield in Europe. What happened to that?
Remember when speaking at a conference in Brussels NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen called for a new missile defense system that would protect the US and its allies, and include Russia as well? What happened to that?
I hate to say it but like Russia I do believe they are the prime target of our so called missile defense system. If not, why are we so insistent on putting it right at Russia's doorstep? England offered to have it there but we said no. Why not?
I still have faith that all the missile defense shield issues will be worked out. When all is said and done I am afraid it will be necessary but I am afraid circumvented one way or the other. With Bush we knew war was the goal but I have faith in Obama. He is still the community organizer that is why he has been very successful around the world.

Medvedev: Russia may target missile defense and Europe
Last November I still had hope despite what Medvedev said but the war monger Putin just swore in again soon so all bets are off. Last November: Medvedev: Russia may target missile defense : President Dmitry Medvedev says Russia will aim its missiles at the U.S. missile defense sites in Europe if Washington fails to address Russian concerns on its missile defense plans. Medvedev said that Russia will deploy missiles in its western most Kaliningrad region and other areas if Russia and NATO fail to reach a deal on the U.S.-led missile defense plans.

The announcement was made by President Dmitry Medvedev at the Franco-German-Russian summit being held in Deauville, France. Medvedev has also accepted an invitation to attend the next NATO summit This is almost the best news I ever heard!
Remember when speaking at a conference in Brussels Nato chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen called for a new missile defense system that would protect the US and its allies, and include Russia as well. I was psyched! I keep saying in every regard but in regard to the war on terror in Pakistan and Afghanistan every day things get better and better. So to is the case with Russia, NATO, and US relations.
Ever since Obama pressed the reset button the relationship between Russia, NATO, and the US has been improving. This proposal is bold because Obama has been trying for months and months now to illicit Russian cooperation in the new missile shield system. This is good for NATO and hard for Russia to turn down. This is great! So what happened?
First I have to say thanks to Obama lightening up the mood between Russia and the US. I am still feeling very optimistic about working together to proceed successfully into the 21st century. Switching to the Aegis missile system which is mobile and already used and proven and scrapping Bush's war mongering worthless MDS Boondoggle was a GREAT IDEA!
As I said already I am psyched that Russia is now cooperating on Iran and their nuclear program. We could be important allies to a prosperous future in many instances not just Iran, Afghanistan, and the so called war on terror. There is now a possibility that NATO the US and Russia will work on a joint missile defense system thanks to Obama's smart move to use the Aegis missile system and scrap Bush's worthless missile defense shield.
We keep hearing from the war mongers on the right that that when Obama went with the AEGIS and scrapped Bush's war mongering plan that we gave Russia the farm and screwed America and Europe. Quite the opposite is true and you hear it from the horses mouth! This is a win for everyone! Russia now knows they are not the target and have started being productive partners or so I thought.
I still have faith that all the missile defense shield issues will be worked out. When all is said and done I am afraid it will be necessary but I am afraid circumvented one way or the other. With Bush we knew war was the goal but I have faith in Obama. He is still the community organizer that is why he has been very successful around the world.

Don't forget the billions in advanced weaponry given to Israel as a "counter balance" Also the 70 Billion in advanced arms give to our so called middle east allies to defend against Iran.
It is only a matter of time before we at the very least have a "confrontation" with Iran. I always figured it would come from the Gulf as Gates said the navy as of yet is not over extended. their primary navy weapon seems for now to be those high powered boats. We seem to be building a defense and offense capable of handling a confrontation with Iran and the IRG. I find that troubling but it is worsened because we are getting ourselves into a war with our 3rd Muslim Nation we do not need this but we are prepared. Iran be careful what you ask for because you "will" get it.

Iran's hollow strait of Hormuz threat: Be careful what you ask for you may get it
Tehran's hollow Hormuz strait threat: The Islamic Republic’s goal may still be more financial than military.
In an undated photo supplied by Lockheed Martin, an Aegis-equipped destroyer launches a missile, using hit-to-kill technology to intercept and destroy short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.
The US started outfitting all military vessels in the Gulf earlier this year
Plus our middle east allies have been prepared: Weapons Sales to Iraq Move Ahead Despite US Worries: The Obama administration is moving ahead with the sale of nearly $11 billion worth of arms and training for the Iraqi military despite concerns that Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki is seeking to consolidate authority, create a one-party Shiite-dominated state and abandon the American-backed power-sharing government.
The military aid, including advanced fighter jets and battle tanks meant to help the Iraqi government protect its borders and rebuild a military that before the 1991 Persian Gulf war was one of the largest in the world; it was disbanded in 2003 after the United States invasion.
US Seals $3.48B Missiles, Technology Sale To UAE: The U.S. and U.A.E. have a strong defense relationship and are both interested in “a secure and stable” Persian Gulf region. The deal includes 96 missiles, along with supporting technology and training support that Little says will bolster the nation’s missile defense capacity. The deal includes a contract with Lockheed Martin to produce the highly sophisticated Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, weapon system for the U.A.E.

Medvedev: Russia may target missile defense and Europe
Medvedev: Russia may target missile defense :President Dmitry Medvedev says Russia will aim its missiles at the U.S. missile defense sites in Europe if Washington fails to address Russian concerns on its missile defense plans. Medvedev said that Russia will deploy missiles in its western most Kaliningrad region and other areas if Russia and NATO fail to reach a deal on the U.S.-led missile defense plans.

The U.S. Navy destroys a boat with new high-energy laser and ship splintering rail gun: Target Iran
In an undated photo supplied by Lockheed Martin, an Aegis-equipped destroyer launches a missile, using hit-to-kill technology to intercept and destroy short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.
We now have a defense against them albeit still being tested and soon will be many times more powerful. The U.S. Navy destroys a boat with new high-energy laser
I had no idea there was even such a thing as a rail gun but they list it as an enemy of the laser so we have to learn more about them and build a successful one. I had no idea there was even such a thing as a rail gun but they list it as an enemy of the laser so we have to learn more about them and build a successful one. I have to imagine Iran has one or can get their hands on one.
A railgun is a projectile device that, via a combination of electrical impulses and magnetic fields, can send a non-explosive projectile vast distances with excessive force. They are extremely high-tech, high-efficiency cannons. In this case, the technology allows the projectiles being fired to break the speed of sound, I have heard up to 8 times the speed of sound. This allows the gun to have a range of approximately 100 miles. To lend that some context, the Navy’s current artillery has a range of only 12 miles but I have read up to 26 miles. Either way this is a formidable weapon and perfect for the Gulf against Iran!
The current design fired a projectile at 33 megajoules. Megajoules are a way of measuring kinetic energy; A ton up to a 100 miles at up to 8 times the speed of sound that is formidable! These devices are designed to put gigantic holes in enemy ships while simultaneously destroying enemy munitions in the process — causing damage of a previously unachievable scope. Navy punches through records with ship-splintering railgun
I find that troubling but it is worsened because we are getting ourselves into a war with our 3rd Muslim Nation we do not need a 4th.

I am psyched Obama swapped Bush's war mongering Missile shield for a mobile shield we already have, is mobile, and works!

US decision to reject Czech radar predictable'
"Stronger, Smarter, and Swifter" Europe Missile Defenses"
US abandons plans for massive ground-based missile defense system ...
Scrapping missile shield sweeps obstacles to "resetting" Russian ...
Bipartisan Senate concern over Obama decision on missile defense ...
I think this is stupendous!
This is fantastic! I had high hopes for this even before Obama met with his Russian counterpart and hinted depending on Russia's stance he might be amenable to altering Bush's plan for a sedentary missile shield in Czechoslovakia and Poland. It was not even known if That MDS worked as we were told it did. It had never been tested in a realistic multiple fire missile situation which in fact is what would be encountered.

If you remember. if the MDS was to be deployed their Russia had threaten to once again turn its nuclear missiles in their direction.
That will not be the case now and Russia has even volunteered to stop work on their own missile defense shield. This is a very positive development despite the fear mongering we are once again being fed. This is a win win for Russia NATO and the US. I am psyched at the possibilities. Russia has already said they will entertain sanctions on Iran and their nuclear program. We could be important allies to a prosperous future in ,any instances not just Iran, Afghanistan, and the so called war on terror.
The ides is to swap the system for a better mobile proven system that we already use. This is a far superior idea and a money saver! The Aegis system is well tested! Nothing can be farther from the truth! We use to totally mobile proven aegis right now. It is already for medium and short rang missiles and can be relocated at a moments notice anywhere around the world. Long range ICBM capabilities are well under way.
Robert Gates was Bush's defense secretary too!He too says it is a great idea and you have to believe he kowtowed to Bush the wrongheaded sole decider. Russia and NATO have even been invited to share in it and Moscow shelved their own plans. All bias aside this is a great development! US, NATO, and Russia's consider linking MDS systems this is big
