Israel 'master of own fate'? US is the master of Israel's fate and Israel is the master of US fate

Israel 'master of own fate': Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US President Barack Obama that Israel must remain the "master of its fate" in a firm defense of his right to mount a unilateral strike on Iran. Obama assured Netanyahu he had Israel's "back" but also stressed before Oval Office talks that he saw a "window" for diplomacy, despite rampant speculation Israel could soon mount high risk go-it-alone military action. Nothing could be farther from the truth! It should have been pointed out long ago that Israel is the master of US fate and the US is the master of Israeli fate.

I reiterate there will never be peace in the Middle East, period! Only the UN wants it, Israel wants it her way and Iran/Syria want Israel obliterated, period. Israel and Iran have long been in preparation for this confrontation. As you know, when asked by a journalist how he felt upon returning to Iran in 1979 after 15 years in exile. Khomeini’s curt, one-word reply was “nothing” Whoa! From day one of his return to Iran Khomeini expressed no love for Iran only a love of the atom bomb. The drive even then was to possess a nuclear weapon though that desire is still denied until Iran can get their hands on one.

Israel does not care what anyone says, they know when push comes to shove the United States will be there to pick up the gauntlet for them.

I reiterate, Israel will never share Jerusalem and can not accept a nuclear Iran and will attack. Whoever is President will come to their rescue! Once again war will occur to prevent war. That makes sense yeah! Again as I keep saying, at one time the threat of mutual destruction use to be a deterrence. Today it seems to be the goal.

I have to reiterate something I have said too many times since Bush chose to ignore all warnings of total civil war spreading throughout the entire Middle East so he could attack Iraq and straighten out the Middle East as God spoke to him and instructed him to. You know I firmly believe and have said so a million times by now that since 9/11 everything was construed to allow Bush to gain the power he needed to prosecute his new order not just in the Middle East but on the entire world! He diverted from Afghanistan to get back into the Middle East with the goal of setting up a larger safety zone for Israel and going after Iran. As expected this democratization started by Bush has taken on a life of its own.

I still see a total civil war Sunni against Shiite erupting in the Middle East because Bush freed up Iran to instigate it on their end and they are. I still am concerned we will have a permanent presence in the Middle East but feel we will have to largely leave Iraq to her own demise. We will still be there but it looks like Yemen, and the Gulf of Aden will be the prime focus unless Iran gets something going between the US and Iran and do not forget Israel.

Saddam Hussein with his lies about possessing WMD kept Iran in check. Bush freed Iran up to pursue her version of new middle East order by interfering wherever she could while Bush was doing the same thing with his Middle East Democratization program. I think you can see how successful Bush and Cheney were with their chaos creating Middle East Democracy program but you are barely seeing the results they created in Iran.

The goal absolutely is to be the country who decides which direction the new Middle East (dis)order will take. Bush started it by attacking Iraq to get into the middle east to destabilize it and start the new middle east order the idiot said God told him to do now it will be up to Iran and Saudi Arabia at least up front fight it out whether this goes the Iranian Shiite way or the Saudi Arabian Sunni way and do not forget Israel!

Both will fail! It has long been my contention that coming to Israel's aid once they attack Iran will be our in to Iran!

The entire middle east and north Africa and our more than century of interference and exploitation can take the blame for that too. Planting our military in the middle of the mess Bush has created out of the Middle East because of his failed Democratization program is going to be a Custer's Last Stand on a grand scale if we are still there when this breaks open! Looking at the war cabinet Obama has amassed I am going to say at this point that this is going to happen even under a President Obama.

Everyone in the Middle East wants their way period and there will never be peace the way the United States wants it. The total Middle East breakdown we have written about numerous times is well under way. We can only hope we keep it from erupting into WW3.

I must admit Israel's hypocrisy and lies are a plan I have discussed often and I have to disagree with a General's final assertion. He says an attack on Iran's nuclear program would be counter productive. I beg to differ! The General hit the nail on the head though and does not know it. I have long asserted that Israel would attack Iran's nuclear interests and we would come to her rescue.

That is a fact that is why I find his final statement troubling and prophetic. He correctly said One strike is not practical. In order to delay the Iranian program for three to four years one needs an armada of aircraft, which only a super-power can provide. Only America can do it. Bingo! You know from numerous discussions here that Iran is involved in every Middle Eastern country not just Yemen, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia where they have corrupted elections for Shiite interests in Iraq, backing rebels in Yemen, and instigating attacks on Saudi oil fields, and of course now Syria. Bush freed Iran to instigate far and wide and they are.

Israel is not going to back down. When all is said and done they know the US will be there for them. It is time for Israel to put up or shut up! I am sure the US plans to come to Israel's rescue and do it largely from the Gulf with numerous carrier fighter groups and they are finished with their 30000 pound bunker buster behemoth to take out underground facilities. Both sides are locked and loaded and Syria is happening at the same time. That is no accident, all we can hope for at this time is to minimize these disasters as much as possible and keep them from turning into WW3.

Jim, this is really some rant. So basically are you saying Isreal will attack Iran with US back up and there is nothing that can change that? What is the time frame for this in your opinion? What role will US elections have on that time table? Don't you believe NATO and our British, German and French allies have been involved in planning for such an outcome (Isreal attack on Iran) and what are the implications for the EU economic recovery if there are short term or longer oil supply disruptions? How does that play on EU's role in such an attack? How can WW3 be stopped if Isreal attacks Iran given the certain participation from Russia, China, Pakistan, and India (all nuclear powers) and the current political make-up of the Islamic countries in the Middle East, including NATO affiliated Turkey, that provide important bases for US and NATO forces? I know you say this is inevitable given the foreign policy decisions of the Bush administration and the unyielding positions of Isreal and Syria/Iran and Palestinian Authority, so what should the US do if it is indeed inevitable?

Hi vicki! They said it again this morning. PM: Israel will protect itself even if America objects: Saying publicly in the Knesset what he had only said privately to congressional leaders in Washington last week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stressed on Wednesday that Israel would act to defend itself even if the US objected.“Israel has never left its fate in the hands of others, not even in the hands of our best friends,” he said in a speech that focused on the Iranian threat and drew a direct line from Tehran to the events earlier this week in Gaza.
He also blamed the 2005 disengagement from the Gaza Strip for leading to Iran’s establishment of a “forward” terrorist base there. Netanyahu cited legendary US secretary of state George Marshall as telling David Ben-Gurion in 1948 not to declare a state, and reminded the Knesset that US president Lyndon Johnson not only advised Israel against preemptive military action in 1967, but warned that “if you act alone, you will be alone.”

An Iran attack is the toughest question Israel faced since 1948: Those who support an attack on Iran must honestly address 10 decisive questions. ... This one will be their last one if we do not come to their aid!

I'm reading your comment again, you know, things are really bad there right now and not just because of this.

Hezbollah and the IRG are helping Syria's Assad and Russia is arming them all while the rest of the world is with the protesters.

Turkey is also siding with the protesters and is contemplating going into Syria to establish a refugee safe zone. Not good! That will do it too.

Vicki makes some good points there. To bring war to the middle east on a grand scale would be like shooting ourselves in the foot. Even though most of our oil now comes from Canada the disruption of flow would put a real crimp on many countries.

Again I must remind you that this is not a Sunni Shia conflict but far more complex. It's more like a Baath party Shia conflict although other factions are involved. Just as an example did you know that Syria is aligned with Egypt (one of our allies)? Even represented on the Syrian flag as one of the stars.

Again, what should be the US's position? Thinking like a commander-in-chief, if Obama believes WW3 starting in the middle east is inevitable in the short term, does the US then plan pre-emptive strikes? Take on Syria and support a No-Fly Zone after consultation with Congress? Negotiate privately with potential adversaries, i.e. China and Russia? Build up our military presence in the region? Again, how does the US election timetable affect all this? I think it is the most important factor because doing any of the above cannot help Obama get re-elected and indeed, may be the major goal of Netanyahu, who is allied with the neo-conservatives of this country. He does not trust Obama and wants him defeated in November. Israel has a number of supporters (and spies) in Defense and State Department agencies. I think the emphasis on diplomacy is the correct path with strategic planning being done behind the scenes. Our biggest problem is Israel and her aspirations, the "wildest card" of all. If she acts on her own to bomb Iranian nuclear sites, we may be pulled into a war because Israel cannot conduct an effective campaign without us. On the other hand, if she acts unilaterally, maybe we can sit it out, let Israel get into this mess without our help. If Israel is bombed, we can provide military defensive aid then. I think this tactic is what Israel hopes will defeat Obama. You can bet AIPAC will be meddling in our election -- the Jewish vote is small but significant for Democrats, but more so is the hold they have on campaign donations for key Congressmen and Senators. The money they will spend attacking President Obama and supporting his opponent will be an important factor in 2012 if the war drums are beating or an outbreak occurs. I'm hoping that "big picture" thinking and the brains Obama has assembled in State and Defense are letting them see different strategies that we are not privy to. I for one trust Obama to do the right thing.
