Egypt's military rejects swift transfer of power and suspends constitution,uh oh

Live feed of Egypt's new era

I was impressed with what I have seen happening in Egypt since Mubarak left. I only hope it continues! Only a day after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian military banned top officials from travelling outside the country to ensure that former presidential loyalists don’t flee.

The ban came into effect immediately, an official announcement from the new regime said as Army removed barricades and barbed wires from around the Tahrir Square and the Egyptian capital limped back to normalcy after 18-days of turmoil. Thousands of volunteers are happily busy cleaning up "their" Egypt. I am so psyched like you I can only hope this continues as an official statement said that officials could only travel with permission from State Prosecutor or the Armed Forces.

The new move to put restrictions on movements of Mubarak loyalists came as mystery continued to surround the whereabouts of the deposed president and his family.Supposedly Mubarak is still in Sharm El Sheikh but no one admits knowing and all the while the head of the military spoke there was no a mention of Mubarak. Egypt has already moved on! Military regime bars officials from leaving Egypt

Egypt's peoples military also went on to immediately announce that the next leadership will not be the military but will be elected. People en masse are sweeping up the streets and cleaning up debris from the 18 day protest as they anxiously await details of the handover and the forming of their new Democracy. With the close ties between Egypt's Generals and our Military leadership I have hopes this will happen.Egypt's military pledges civilian handover

Mubarak's Swiss Assets Frozen

The Egyptian military has said it will respect all international treaties, thereby confirming its accord with Israel will remain intact, after Hosni Mubarak's resignation.

In closing: Switzerland had also announced immediately that it was freezing all accounts of Mubarak's his family and his cronies to try and recapture as much of the reported 70 Billion in stolen Egyptian money. The military also announced they they will honor all treaties including with Israel to ally Israel's fears. I really am psyched that up to this point Egypt's military appears to be doing all the right things for Egyptians, their new Egypt, and to ally all fears of the world that they have ulterior motives. Like Egyptian's we will watch and hope!

I'd hold off on the celebrations until we see how this will all work out. People with power and money usually don't part with it that easy. We saw what happened in Afghanistan.

Yeah I know! I understand all the big wig Generals are in on the illicit gains and I would expect them to secure their interests but I listen to the fact that Yemen and the rest of them are going to go and there is no way because the Government will put it down violently.

They say Iran too but they found out the hard way that regime will murder their people to keep their fascist agenda going. Egypt is a unique situation to me.

Demeur speak of the devil did you see this? Egypt's military rejects swift transfer of power and suspends constitution.Ruling military council intends to retain power for six months or longer while elections are scheduled and will rule by decree Uh oh that sounds stats quo or worse, not what they were told.

I have no keen insight into the Egyptian military, but have a hunch its leaders are military professionals who don't want to be responsible for running the country. One reason I say that is because no military type has jumped out in front of the crowds trying to play himself up as a hero. What we're seeing is a very organizational approach.

Another factor, though probably not pivotal, is that 25 percent of Egypt's military budget comes from the U.S. The generals probably realize, and might have been told, a strongman takeover wouldn't be received well in Washington.

What I'm hoping to see soon is a statement saying the military wants the U.N., maybe the Arab League as well, to help organize and oversee the elections.

I just heard that $70 billion figure. Imagine how much education, health care and infrastructure that much money could buy Egypt's population.

Hi S.W., yeah this is a complex affair in Egypt! The military has been running the country for years, Mubarak and his entire hierarchy are ex Generals in civilian garb.

They have been in a state of emergency since Mubarak over 30 years ago. All the higher up Generals are in on the robbing of the country in garnishing illicit gains.

You can bet party of that 70 bullion is in their hands. The main General who was in Washington when this started stood in front of the crowd and said you will have everything you want then the next day stood up and said they are behind Mubarak then later announce he was in Sharm El Sheikh.

I don't know if you read the link but I think they were right in dismissing the Parliament but some I read and heard has concerned me as it has some Egyptians.

When all is said and done Egypt has a conscripted military, almost everyone has so0meone in the military, and from the highest General to the bottom of the military we have trained them with us and I think this will be okay in the end or should I say I hope it will!
