Live: Libya revolt and the latest horrendous developments

Live: Libya revolt

Defense Secretary Robert Gates, in what he said is his final address to the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy, warned Friday against the United States getting involved in another major land battle. Gates remarks contrasted with some in America who are pushing for the U.S. military to take a more active role in other places like Libya.

Libya's UN ambassador calls for tough sanctions as the UN Security Council has rarely seen anything like it, with hugs and embraces after an impassioned speech. The emotional address reduced its speaker, Libya’s UN ambassador, to tears as he denounced the man he called his friend and his brother. He said he initially “could not believe” Muammar Gaddafi’s troops were firing on protesters and called on sanctions now to be imposed.“Please United Nations, save Libya,” urged Abdurrahman Mohamed Shalgham.

Gaddafi appears in Tripoli

Defiant Libyans flood streets of Tripoli to protest against Moammar Kadafi They are more defiant than ever, I just hope what I learned as a little kid does not happen here as I expect it will. Be careful what you ask for you may get it and even more pointed, you know what you have but you don't know what you're going to get!

Who knows what else he has but he has tons of mustard gas. I refuse to believe that a deal making him give that up was not part of the asinine deal we had made with the mad man in recent years. Mustard gas was outlawed after WW1 but you know Kaddafi will use it on his own people. I hope those on the front lines of this revolt at least have gas masks. Tripoli braces for battle as Gaddafi digs in

As Battles Continue Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi has started arming his civilian supporters to quash dissent, as British and Irish nationals in Tripoli plead for help from the international community.

TERRIFIED Lybians were preparing for an escalation of violence as embattled leader Muammar Gaddafi continues to cling to power. I just heard him threaten to throw open the doors to all his armories letting people arm themselves to the teeth. This scum is a frigging mad man!

When you have to resort to violence you've lost or so the saying goes.
I am reminded of how Gandi brought India to a standstill without the use of violence. It's a matter of bringing the country to a halt.

You're right Demeur! Despite China removing 12,000 of her citizens to my knowledge We haven't heard from them or Russia.

I keep hearing said that he lost legitimacy so must leave but who the hell are we and what the hell does he care. He is going no where and will kill as many as he can.
