Analysis: Revolution v evolution Subject Egypt but it applies to all of North Africa and the Middle East!

In closing: Bush's intention in attacking Iraq was to get our military back in the Middle East to help Israel establish a safety zone, create a new middle east (dis)order as God told him to, and to establish a permanent middle east presence. I was very concerned that this entire mess in the middle east would take on a life of its own and our military would be left in the middle of it. Well it has happened. Are we smart enough to stay out of it? Or will we be dragged even deeper into it?

The middle east is exploding as we long said it would and anti Israeli anti US forces are trying to use it to their advantage. Israel is nervous as they should be with all their hedging at a real 2 state solution.

Across the Arab world, people living under the thumb of repressive leaders are rising up against the rulers who once seemed omnipotent. It is no coincidence these were all American allies! They are not quite sure what they want. But from North Africa to the Arabian Peninsula, they know they want change. And their wrath and their courage are creating a new form of Arab unity. Fearless protesters challenge regimes around Middle East

This all boils down in all interests to something I learned as a kid and that is "be careful what you ask for" You know what you have but you do not know what you're going to get"

I do recall that we were kicked out of Saudi Arabia and that most countries in the region wanted Saddam gone at all costs. Guess they were tired of paying for the "No Fly Zone".
Unfortunately this looks to be backfiring on Bush's plan as with democracy comes real change and you may not like it when the extremists gain power. As your saying goes "be careful what you wish for you just might get it".

What surprises me is Jordan which tends to appear quit liberal on the surface. I guess this calls for more study into the true nature of politics and economics of the area. There in lies the problem. We're not up on our understandings of the area.
This is underneath it all just a matter of keeping a few selected people in power and wealth and nothing more.

Yhep everything backfires on us but we will never learn. Be careful what you ask for because you might get it plus you know what you have but you don't know what you're going to get.

Fear is that we will end up with another Iran. I see the Muslim Brotherhood along with the Military are talking to Mubarak so he will step down and that can take over, Those poor people better recognize it and speak up.

The Muslim Brotherhood isn't as extremist as one might think from what I've read so far. Yes they do have factions within that organization that are but they tend to be fringe elements.
If we were smart we'd be having talks with them and the military. I know their military was just here holding talks at the pentagon with our military.

Demeur you're right and I hope we are talking with them though that tends to be just to feel them out and get an idea what we're dealing with for later.

It is the fringe that everyone tells me not to worry about that bites us everywhere including here as we speak.
