Bush's Left handed Plea for research
Bush said the US must curb its reliance on foreign oil imports. He called for more research on batteries for hybrid and electric cars and work on alternative fuels to produce ethanol from wood chips, stalks or switch grass.
Bush offered no timetable forbringing home troops from Iraq"Our goal is to make this new kind of ethanol practical and competitive within six years," the president said.
"Breakthroughs on this and other new technologies will help us reach another great goal: to replace more than 75% of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025."
Incidentally, the largest sources of American petroleum consumption are Mexico and Canada not America. Imports of oil and refined product from the Gulf make up less than a fifth of all imports and 11% of total consumption, according to US Energy Department statistics. Kevin G. Hall writes for Knight Ridder Newspapers: "One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.
"What the president meant, they said in a conference call with reporters, was that alternative fuels could displace an amount of oil imports equivalent to most of what America is expected to import from the Middle East in 2025. . . .
"Asked why the president used the words 'the Middle East' when he didn't really mean them, one administration official said Bush wanted to dramatize the issue in a way that 'every American sitting out there listening to the speech understands.' The official spoke only on condition of anonymity because he feared that his remarks might get him in trouble." dramatize, yeah thats it, in a way that every American can understand. We understand! just another say what you want to get what you want speech. We know it as lying! It had nothing to do with the President using the middle East as an excuse because he knows the American public is weary of combating with Middle East countries and issues and wants out does it. No, the truth that wouldn't be it. With Hydrogen research as promising and advanced as it is why is he pushing grass and hydrogen was a mere passing mention? For years, hydrogen’s main use has been as a chemical used to make things like food products, antifreeze, methanol, reformulated gasoline and petrochemicals. U.S. industry currently uses more than 90 billion cubic meters (3.2 trillion cubic feet) of hydrogen each year. In your home, an item as common as Crisco shortening is made using hydrogen. Hydrogen also is used to produce ammonia for fertilizer. About two-thirds of commercially produced hydrogen goes for this one use. Hydrogen has the potential to be used in an even wider range of uses, including transportation for cars, trucks and buses; and power generation and power systems. These can provide electricity through fuel cells that can power everything from a single family home to a whole neighborhood to an entire state or region. Most current talk centers around hydrogen’s potential as a fuel for power generation and transportation. Hydrogen already has been used as a fuel in the space program for decades. Liquid hydrogen fuels the Space Shuttle’s main engine. And hydrogen fuel cells provide onboard electric power. Astronauts can even drink the water produced as a result of the fuel cells’ chemical process. Aerospace engineers are looking for ways to use hydrogen fuel for airplanes. Unlike today’s aviation fuels, which are quite heavy, hydrogen holds the promise of being much lighter. Lower-weight, high-energy hydrogen could let planes carry more passengers or cargo, or could increase an airplane’s range. Now imagine using fuel cells to power not only your car, but your house. That’s right. It actually might be possible some day soon to plug your house into your car. That way you’ll be able to cook, clean and be entertained with electricity produced by your hydrogen fuel cell car. The clean, distilled water that’s produced by the fuel cell can meet some of your household’s water needs. Hydrogen also is being tested as a fuel for buses. The U.S. Department of Energy has a pilot program underway in conjunction with the California Fuel Cell Partnership. As many as 20 hydrogen fueled buses are scheduled to be in service starting in 2004 for a two-year demonstration in and around the San Francisco and Palm Springs areas. Fuel cell suppliers, such as International UTC Fuel Cells and Ballard Power Systems are developing the bus engines. Looking for more examples of hydrogen’s current use? it is the most abundant energy source on the planet. Does bush know something he isn't talking about, thus keeping how advanced this technology is for a reason? Cab he really be as stupid as he looks? Imagine if we already had the next major energy source in place! china and everyone else we owe be damned. we would own the future. Imagine! For more information on hydrogen click here!http://www.hydrogen.com
