Why Tucson will happen again and we can't stop it
I have discussed in the past that I have a good friend and I will invite you all to read his many works as he has touched us all and is known around the world. He is known on line as The Relentless Liberal
His real name is Jerome Grossman, oh yeah he is 93 and he is behind the Vietnam Moratorium, the Council for a livable world, America's nuclear nonproliferation program, and many more programs and foundation's that touch us all.
His latest discussion was on how to Federally control weapons to prevent another Tucson from happening and please read his knowledgeable dissertation Here However there is no way to control weapons are to prevent another and worse massacre as living conditions worsen and they will.
Of course it will happen again, this is just starting and will get a lot worse despite what they say: Millions are hopeless and Tucson is no exception as In Tucson's sprawling suburbs, recession has dimmed the American dream
They say no one is suggesting a correlation to joblessness and violence but on this scale there is one and don't forget homelessness and lack of health care. Also this condition breeds war. I accused G W of doing this on purpose as a way of driving men to the military back in 07 when we were having a problem filling the ranks. Right now the military is so full the marines and Navy are being forced to cut. Why the Tucson massacre is destined to happen again
Guns and other lethal weapons will never be controlled here in the United States because of the multiple millions on the streets controlled illegally and purchased on the dark side. Another problem is the gun shows where purchase is supposed to be controlled but too often is done under the table and to any mad man willing to pay.
You know how it goes, the right thing is never done only what serves one interest or the other. Everyone thinks it is their right to do what they want and they will not give that perceived right to the federal Government though in a perfect world I think they should. Regardless of knee jerk reactions or anything they do the slaughter in Tucson will happen again as people get more hopeless and weapons will be available regardless.
Everybody involved on the right are trying to step back and both parties are blaming each other and trying to claim the high ground but the truth is Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Bachmann, even McConnell and Boehner have fed the feelings of futility and hopelessness that are acted on by people already on an uneven keel. When I was a kid we had institutes for the mentally unstable and they were controlled. Today they roam the streets freely.
Amidst still worsening living and financial conditions the already unstable are going to act out violently whether prodded by Political games or not. Trying to fear monger about peoples living conditions today or possibility of it worsening in the future is a reality already. Whatever Politicians say try or promise this is just beginning and will get worse.

The Old Razzle Dazzle By Jerome Grossman and once again my somber response!
If President Barack Obama rescues America, and indeed the entire world, from the ravages of recession/depression, the gratitude of the populace will be boundless. His party will sweep the congressional elections of 2010; his reelection in 2012 will be by acclamation.
If Obama's stimulus plan fails and the economy sinks into depression, he will bear the blame, and he and his party will be swept from power. Obama says the stimulus “serves two functions-creating jobs and stimulating the economy in the short term and laying the groundwork for overhauls in energy, health care and infrastructure that would be felt for decades.”
But some Democrats say that his package could end up missing both targets. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said that the stimulus bill "could prove less than the quick jolt that President Obama is seeking," because of necessary delays in spending on longer projects.
To protect his political flank in 20i0 and 2012, Obama has catered to the policies of the Republicans, so that 40% of the entire package is composed of tax cuts. Vice President Joe Biden said "That's not what the Democrats wanted." But they accepted the Republican tax proposals to get their support and votes for the package. Then, in case of failure, Republicans could not attack politically in 2010 and 2012 because the bill included their own tax cut wish list.
However, after receiving the tax concessions, the GOP failed to deliver their votes. From being dispirited after losing the White House and the Congress, they now have a strategy: to blame Obama if the economy fails to rally, to blame Obama for the waste of trillions, to blame Obama for the anticipated inflation.
Today, Obama is in a very strong position. Virtually the entire country wants him to succeed. Guarding against possible failure, he wanted both parties on the same hook, the stimulus bill. In remarkable and unprecedented gestures of bipartisanship, he praised Ronald Reagan, met with GOP officials, dined with conservative pundits, solicited their advice and ideas, appointed Republicans to his Cabinet and policymaking positions, to name only a few outreaches. Obama made all those compromises for nothing.
So far, Obama has failed to achieve the desired cooperation or the bipartisan cover for his stimulus bill. The Republicans now have a political strategy for future elections. Unfortunately, it seems to be based on Obama’s future failure and the continuation of our economic troubles. Let us hope they are wrong in their use of the old razzle dazzle style of politics.
Jerome
So far President Obama has done a cracker jack job! His first priority was and is two fold, to save the economy while rebuilding America and putting Americans back to work and undoing all Bush's damage including 200 anti American laws and Executive orders.
He is well on his way with the latter but needs Republicans to achieve the former. Rush Limbaugh has a lot of company! They want to see him fail and will do what they can to achieve that.
Republicans want President Obama to go down in flames so they can get back in power and finish us and their new (dis)order agenda off.
Bush created this mess and Greenspan was the tool! Americans are not stupid. They know Bush and his Legacy of destruction is responsible. Also one term is not going to fax this. Obama will get a second term!
That will not be enough though! This will continue for generations like it or not. The entire world is hoping President Obama succeeds. We were responsible for the world collapse in 1929 and we are responsible for the collapse in 2009!
We know who was in control both times and who it took to save us. The worst part to me is FDR and his new Deal did not do it. Ultimately it was WW2!

Leon Panetta and the CIA By Jerome Grossman and my response, we finally agree!

Leon Panetta and the CIA By Jerome Grossman and my response, we finally agree!
President-elect Obama stunned the national intelligence community by selecting Leon Panetta to serve as the next director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Panetta has been a US Representative, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Chief of Staff in the Clinton administration.
While Panetta is a longtime Washington insider with serious management experience, he is not an expert on intelligence or on past operations of the CIA. Obama has been criticized by CIA specialists and high ranking senators for appointing a director without direct experience in the field.
But that is exactly why Panetta was appointed. Obama has criticized the agency for using harsh interrogation methods and has openly objected to the use of such methods, some of which have been used for generations under Democratic as well as Republican administrations. Obama had to find a director who was absolutely clean on waterboarding, other tortures, secret renditions of prisoners to other countries for torture, kidnappings, assassinations, etc.. The only safe appointment was a manager who had never been in the CIA, who did not have the experience of breaking US law and violating the Geneva Conventions on Treatment of Prisoners of War. The Clinton administration made extensive use of rendering suspects to Egypt without formal charges to be tortured. Was Panetta involved? Will the question be asked at his confirmation hearing?
Democratic senators Dianne Feinstein of California and Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia immediately complained about the appointment citing lack of experience and Obama's failure to notify them in advance. However, their position is weakened by their failure to use their influence as powerful members of the Senate Intelligence Committee to expose the hideous practices and to arouse the nation of the crimes committed in the name of the United States.
It will not be easy for Panetta to reform the CIA and to change established patterns of conduct. Who becomes second in command of operations will supply a clue about the chance of success in changing the culture of the agency. The action levels are often hidden from the view of the Director at the helm. Obama is trying, and so will Panetta. The illegal procedures must be eliminated. They offend other nations, tarnish US reputation, and produce incorrect information. Modern intelligence techniques avoid torture and violence, rely on psychological approaches and obtain more accurate information faster without alienating the rest of humanity.
I think Panetta was a good choice!
President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon E. Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff, to take over the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization that Mr. Obama criticized during the campaign for using interrogation methods he decried as torture, Democratic officials said Monday.
Mr. Panetta has a reputation in Washington as a competent manager with strong background in budget issues, but has little hands-on intelligence experience. If confirmed by the Senate, he will take control of the agency most directly responsible for hunting senior Al Qaeda leaders around the globe, but one that has been buffeted since the Sept. 11 attacks by leadership changes and morale problems. Panetta is an odd choice
Considering Obama ran as the agent of change this is a bit disconcerting to me! Considering Barack's criticism of Panetta's stance on torture I find this to be just one more sign of the war cabinet Obama has amassed!
Obama has been criticized for using insiders from the past but we have to remember who the new decider is. He will do the right thing. Obama has been forced to pick the war cabinet he has as they will have many wars to deal with I am afraid. All of which has been set in motion by Bush! I want to criticize the choice of Leo Panetta like I would like to criticize many of his cabinet choices!
However, with the bed Bush has made for us and Obama I think Penetta is a wise choice!

Today's meeting with our voice Jerome Grossman The Relentless Liberal!

Today's meeting with our voice Jerome Grossman The Relentless Liberal
"Let liberals read and see Jerome Grossman as their example, the proof that the individual can make a difference."
John Kenneth Galbraith
Jerome Grossman is a leader in the movement to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons. A self-styled relentless liberal, Grossman played key roles in many electoral campaigns and efforts to end the Vietnam War and the Iraq War.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, raised in Brookline, he lived in Newton for 30 years, then in Wellesley for 30 years where he now resides. A 1938 graduate of Harvard College, Grossman is the author of “Relentless Liberal,” New York, Vantage Press, 1996 and many newspaper and magazine articles. His blog can be found at www.relentlessliberal.com. Grossman has had a number of careers: Business as President of Massachusetts Envelope Company Education as lecturer at Tufts University, Regis College, Palm Beach Community College Political as Member, Democratic National Committee Chairman, Father Drinan for Congress Director, Eugene McCarthy for President Director, George McGovern for President Manager, Stuart Hughes for Senate Anti-war activist as Chairman, Council for a Livable World.
Jerome Grossman managed five careers simultaneously: Business Executive, political activist, teaher, writer, and radio commentator. I Consider grassroots organizer his greatest accomplishment and he is still at it. Originator, Vietnam Moratorium Movement and Chairman of council for a livable world. Radio Commentator at WCRB – Massachusetts, WJNO – Florida Civil Liberties as Chairman, Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts Foundation.
Jerome Grossman has been a leader in almost every peace and liberal Movement for over sixty years. He has written articles for many publications and currently teaches at Tufts University and Palm Beach Community College and is a graduate of Harvard College. needless to say I was very impressed with his lecture today which was an Analysis of current affairs. we were all riveted and he was not only witty but on top of everything. I was happy to see he did not even mention Giuliani and he said after that Rudi is a non entity and we agree on that for sure!
* I have been away from the news today beyond listening to the radio to and from Jerome's lecture. Two stories played over and over all day. New Hampshire and the situation in the Gulf with the IRG and our ships. As many of you know, I believe that there is no analysis necessary at least for me. Barak will be our next President. It is all his to lose Unless he gets assassinated, the election is stolen once again, or Bush gets himself another war to fight. Pakistan is shaping up in that direction as we all know and it got a little closer with Iran with the incident in the Gulf between the IRG and the navy. We know the IRG was instigating they said in a standard way and it was nothing but Bushco played it up and said it was the worse ever and they were moments from blowing the IRG out of the water. Anyway you look at it, it is getting closer.
** I discussed today with Jerome the fact that attacking Iraq was to get into the middle east and go after Iran and he will not leave and will attack Iran. Things are only going bad to us. They are going great for Bush. He will get his war soon. Looking at our concerns for the elections and bush's purposeful furtherance of wars so he can stay in office and prosecute his new world (dis)order we have got to do something. I must admit I have the absolute utmost respect for Jerome Grossman and realizing how diverse, caring, intelligent, and resourceful he is, I implore any and all of you that care about peace, prosperity, the average American, and the future of America and the World, to comment on the relentless Liberal and voice your concerns.
You all care! You all have your opinions! you are all on top of the issues, some of you are peace activists and have other interests positive to the future of our America. To me this is our chance to talk to someone who cares, hopefully will advise, maybe get involved, and make a difference. He has done it many times over the years and his flame of concern and knowledge is burning hotter than ever. let him know your concerns at least so it can be passed on to the right channel. You can learn more or contact Jerome at relentless Liberal
I will be back with my regular analysis tomorrow!

learn from a Legend, At 90 years old grassroots peace and Political Activist Jerome Grossman is truly The relentless liberal!

Knowing we talk every day about the phenomenal audacity and lack of compunction of Bush as he lies constantly and is as corrupt as they come and how he has destroyed the image of the white House and his mis-Administration is guilty of Treason and obstruction of justice and a lot worse I am still stunned that he has the B's to say he is troubled by steroid use in Baseball and the users have sullied the game of baseball. Bush has a lot of nerve
After looking at all the underhanded crap Bush has pulled in his soon to be completed task of taking total control of us and our America It is high time someone tries to do something to put a stop to this as the democratic Senate appears to be complicit with Bush as he rapes the Constitution, passes law after law giving him more power, and prepares to take control of us, our America, and our foreseeable future. Something has to be done but we do not know how to organize or how to get ourselves heard or get our peace or any other kind of activism off the ground.
Well yesterday was our lucky day! I am pretty excited! I had been contacted a while back by someone who somehow found his way to a story I wrote and was compelled to contact me. We have been in contact ever since.
Well! I kept corresponding with this person but thought his outlook was a bit behind and outdated. I finally confronted him about it and what a surprise! Yesterday I got a return and now I'm excited. I won't send you a long report but I was amazed to find out the guy I have been writing to is a 90 year old grass roots political and peace activist that has been active since 1950 and is behind just about everything liberal that has occurred since.
His web site is http://relentlessliberal.blogspot.com/ I recommend if you have time to go there and under Jerome Grossman click on learn more about about the Relentless Liberal. You will be amazed I was! Anyway I am going to listen to him and converse with him and his son who is the one I have actually been conversing with as Jerome is getting a bit feeble. I am going to one of his lectures January 3rd here in Wellesley, Massachusetts and look forward to telling you all about it. He is a long time personal friend of Kennedy and many others. This is our chance to learn, make a difference, and get heard.
let me give you a bit about him and I hope you click on the link and learn more about this Political Liberal Legend and please pass this on. I will get his Nation wide lecture schedule if he may be in your area or you are interested. Anyway!

Interview
Jerome Grossman
December 3, 1996
INT: Tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, and the family values that shaped you growing up?
JG: My name is Jerome Grossman. I suppose by profession I can best be described as a manager. I worked in the family business for thirty-five years, sold my interest in that, and then as a result of my participation in the peace movement I accepted a position as the president and national executive director of Council for a Livable world. I was the director of that for twelve years. Then I became the chairman of the organization. The difference is that instead of working at it twenty-four hours a day, I work at it twelve hours a day.
In addition, I have become a teacher since I retired from business. I have taught political science at Tufts University. I’m currently teaching Business Management at Tufts University. In addition to that, I do a lot of speaking, and formally I teach at Palm Beach Community College in January, February, and March. In the fall semester I teach here at an RSVP program, which is essentially a lifetime learning institution. Believe it or not, in each of these places I have between two hundred and three hundred students every week. I find that quite gratifying. I find that it’s a way of educating myself more than the students. In other words, the voluminous research that I do in preparation I feel greatly adds to my understanding of the issues as well as adding to the store of facts that I have. I think that's why people come to listen to me because it's all preparation. I don’t think that I have anything unique to say. But I work at putting it together for them.
INT: In terms of your connection with the peace movement, were there family values that led you to your very active involvement in the peace movement?
JG: My father was active politically. As I say in my book where I really draw a contrast between my father and myself, he––as the son of immigrants and somebody working their way up from a very poor background––used politics as a vehicle for upward mobility, primarily. I didn’t have to do that because by the time I came along we were fairly comfortable. Not rich, but comfortable. I somehow began reading The Nation magazine when I was fourteen years old. I’ve always been an avid reader.
They had to throw me out of the library. I got beaten for reading excessively. “It’ll burn out your eyes.” When I had to go to bed at nine or ten o’clock, if I was in the middle of a story or reading a book, I took a flashlight and put my head under the covers until I was discovered. And then, that’s when I got beaten. There was no history of political activism in the sense that I’m active in my family. However, I made a turn in the family in that my younger sister––I had one brother and a sister, and she was born sixteen years after I was born––and her politics are very close to mine; her children’s politics are very close to mine. So I made a departure in my family. How I got that way, I don’t know. I like to think that I didn't like to see other kids pushed around. I remember getting in fights to protect other kids. But maybe that's a mixed memory.
INT: Tell us about the Vietnam moratorium movement of 1969. What precipitated it, and what was your role in that?
JG: You have to go back to the Eugene McCarthy campaign. I had been working in the peace movement for many years. My motivation was the knowledge of the power of atomic weapons. Anything that might precipitate a war between the countries that had nuclear weapons might wipe out humanity. When I learned about that in the middle 1950's it was the kind of knowledge that spurred me into action. Actually... Read more of this amazing history of activism on his site at "Learn more about the Relentless Liberal" on the top left!
I am looking forward to meeting him and his son Danny and learning. I am just perplexed because I know that the fear of mutual destruction is no longer a deterrent for nuclear war as Bush for one thinks he works for God and seems to be working towards the Bibles End Of Days scenario. At the very least he and others are willing to use nuclear weapons and take their chances while making the world unlivable at the same time.WTF?
