China could try to block eventual Korean unification, report says: Absolutely!

There is no way China would allow a unified Korea unless China controlled it

China could try to block eventual Korean unification, report says: Such a situation is well down the road, experts say, but it resonates at a time when China is playing an aggressive role elsewhere in the region, staking claim to much of the South China Sea and to islands administered by Japan.
With the threat of reunification being talked about more and more I believe it would never happen but China is getting nervous as to what it would mean. North Korea would have to be in charge because China would never accept the US at her door. Asia is more and more looked at by China as being her domain and their is no room for the US.

North Korean leader seeks end to confrontation with South: "An important issue in putting an end to the division of the country and achieving its reunification is to remove confrontation between the north and the south," Kim said in the address that appeared to be pre-recorded and was made at an undisclosed location.
"(Kim's statement) apparently contains a message that he has an intention to dispel the current face-off (between the two Koreas), which could eventually be linked with the North's call for aid (from the South)," said Kim Tae-woo, a North Korea expert at the state-funded Korea Institute for National Unification.

president says Seoul must prepare for a united country as the North becomes aware of South's affluence. This was 2 years ago so don't hold your breath.

For a long time I have highlighted North Korea purposely starving her people while getting technology and military might from China and believed it was only a matter of time before the people rebelled. We discussed ex North Korean military now in South Korea who were going to lead a rebellion against the Kim dynasty for the harm they have done to the citizens.

I at one time thought there would one day be a reunified Korean Peninsula but not the way we and South Korea envision it.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said North Korea remained "an immediate threat to the region around it, particularly to South Korea and Japan". North Korea also posed "a medium-term threat, should it collapse, to China", she said. Beijing has criticized the maneuvers and called for more talks with Pyongyang, saying it is better to negotiate than "brandish weapons".

I have a lot of thoughts about this! Hillary is right and Beijing is right. Again however, Beijing has been using North Korean belligerence in order to keep us off their door step. They have also for as long while been abusing their increasing financial and military strength. Yes in the past we too did it but that time must be over if we are to move successfully through the 21st century.

Wiki leaks at least has let it be known that China would accept a unified Korea as long as we were not there. That will never happen as I am sure I am not the only one that believes China would take advantage of that and pre planned or not that is why exercises with South Korea and Japan were necessary. China can blame themselves!

China's real role here is her goal to keep Democracy off her doorstep and the Kim regime in power because they will remain a puppet whose strings China can pull. Kim Jong Il said he was committed to establishing "a lasting peace system" on the Korean peninsula and to making it nuclear-free "through dialogue and negotiations" a lasting peace system, what is that?

donations of food and supplies from us while he maintains his 7 million man army for China and continues to toy with advanced weapons and starve its people? Un just had a baby and wants peace and prosperity supposedly but in reality does he matter as to the North's direction?

In the end I don't care what they say. This is a confrontation long in the works. MacArthur was right wanting to go right through North Korea then China back than because it would eventually have to be done. There is a lot behind the scenes to be concerned with here and yes China is our banker but they are over stepping their boundaries. We owe them trillions but with Russia's cooperation we can come out on top here. I fully expect we would and in the end being victors we would cancel our debt to China!

What a mess! Good thing Bush took North Korea off the terror list huh? They sure deserved that.

There is no way in hell we can envision Kim Jong Un or those like his uncle and the Generals taking a back seat to South Korean rule voluntarily. That said, a unified Korea would have to be driven by a free system of some sort but I do not think it will not happen unless with a war and hopefully limited. Here we are talking war again in a world that can sustain no more.
