we've been Warning: Now Boston's Repug Big Dig Debacle Kills/Typical total Failure Will Happen!

A woman was killed when three-ton concrete panels fell from the ceiling of a Big Dig tunnel and crushed the car she was riding in late Monday night, Massachusetts Turnpike Authority officials said. The driver escaped through a car window.
A steel tieback that held the 40-foot ceiling section in place over Interstate 90 eastbound gave way, Authority Chairman Matthew Amorello said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car was partially crushed under at least four ceiling panels. The vehicle was in the left lane, giving the driver's side more protection as panels came to rest also on a left-side service walkway that is elevated several feet above the road.Toll, wife dead husband crawls out.

Amorello said he's confident that 200-foot section is the only area of the Big Dig project where the type of tiebacks that failed were used. Those ceiling panels were erected in 1999 and the contractor was Modern Continental, he said.

The $14.6 billion Big Dig highway project, which buried Interstate 93 beneath downtown and extended the Turnpike to the airport, has been criticized for construction problems and massive cost overruns that state officials have said did not compromise safety.Bull shit!
There have been water leaks in parts of the tunnel system and at least one incident when smaller amounts of dirt and debris from an air shaft in another section of the tunnel system fell onto travel lanes, causing minor damage to cars.

In May prosecutors charged six current and former employees of a concrete supplier with fraud for allegedly concealing that some concrete delivered to the Big Dig was not freshly mixed. State and federal officials said that long-term maintenance, not immediate safety, was the likely impact.
Amorello said preliminary investigation shows that the quality of the concrete was not to blame for the fatal accident Monday night. Public safety is our top priority and if someone is liable they will be held accountable http://www1.whdh.com/...

Stop the political bullshit already! This is A republican project! The people do not matter! Doing the right thing does not matter! Political and corruptive gain for their interests is all that matter! I have been warning people about this for years! This tunnel will totally fail eventually like everything else these Repugs are in charge of.

After more than a decade of monumental traffic jams and constantly shifting detours, construction of the Central Artery and Tunnel Project--known locally as the "Big Dig"--largely came to an end earlier this year, and local officials opened the new downtown tunnel with great fanfare.

But in September, water started pouring through a tunnel wall one afternoon, causing lane closings and snarling rush-hour traffic. That wall leak has been patched temporarily, and engineers for the state turnpike authority, which is in charge of the project, say the nearly 4 miles of Big Dig tunnels that pass under or close to Boston Harbor are safe.

Still, the bad news kept coming and these ruling idiots ignored it as usual!

Memos came to light showing that inspectors for Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff, the project managers, flagged the tunnel wall as flawed in 1999, but no one did anything about it. In memos from 1997, engineers at Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff raised concerns about the waterproofing method being used in the project, but the work went ahead.

It turned out that not just the wall was leaking. The tunnel roof has several hundred leaks--nearly 500 in November, the turnpike authority said, but the number changes as existing leaks are patched and new ones spring up.

Those leaks are much smaller, amounting in some cases to trickles or slow drips, but they are already staining the tiles that line the labyrinthine tunnel system, which makes up about half the Big Dig's 7.8 miles of new roadway.

With shoddy work, shoddy materials, no oversight, no responsibility, no accountability, massively over budget, etc, this is just an example of the rampant typical Repug self enrichment representation we are experiencing everywhere today! as pointed out, this project has been recently completed, massively over budget, failing cement, 6 arrested for it,.many leaks they say don't worry about, and so called officials tell you not to worry about it, your safe!

Let me tell you something! My son completes flight training tomorrow and I am supposed to go through the tunnel to pick him up. There is no way I will be going through that tunnel! we will be finding an alternate way of picking him up! You cannot trust this tunnel, what Repug Presidential wanabe Romney tells you, or anything these Repugs tell you today!

Are you high?

James:

I sincerely agree with you that we have been fed a steady stream of bullshit concerning the Big Lie. However, how do you come to the conclusion that only Republicans are to blame? There isn't a damn thing that can get done in this state without the consent of both houses and they are overwhelmingly Democrat. To seriously postulate that only one political party is to blame, and the minority one at that, is a real stretch.

Just to head off the obvious question - I am not a Republican.

Serious question. Am I wrong in saying that the state budget has been controlled by the completely and totally Democrat-controlled House & Senate over the vetoes of various Republican governors? Right? Right.
So, on what planet does this become a Republican problem? Seriously. Only in the best possible light, it's a shared responsibility. Looking at it more realistically I'd say the overriding majority bears that same level of blame.

Hi Suldog
Very simple. Democrats initiated this for their own self interest I'm sure. However all the corruption and ineptitude came to light under all the following Republican governance.
republicans have been in charge of this boondoggle for all the problems. it does not matter what the majority is or thinks. You must kow thet being under Bush.
The Governor is supposed to be in charge. Now he wants heads to roll. He is the boss good times or bad. It is his that should roll. He is also an 08 Presidential wanabe and wants to do the same thing for the country.

Hi Granted
Yes you are wrong. I have told people from the beginning that he is cut from the same cloth as Bush who he wants to replace.
It is Democratically dominated but Republican controlled. the being a Republican issue comes into play because we have been a republican controlled state throughout all the problems with a republican President who kept giving our federal money knowing this whole thing has been corruption plagued and problematic.
KnowingBush that would make you believehe allowed it because Mass had a Repug Governor that he wanted to please and he wanted that State. What do you think?

Hi Bruce
I wish I was but that wouldn't help! I don't know if you read the whole thing or the comments but those are the undeniable facts!

Well, I tried to read the whole thing. Hint: You might want to look into using a little HTML formatting, specifically the "blockquote" and "a href" features.

I have to hand it to you! the word too has been there from the beginning andI never noticed it and no one ever caught it. It will be corrected so thanks.
As for the rest of your childish rhetoric, that lack of intelligence is why we have so many problems getting coordinated today.
As for blaming you! If you were unbiased you would know the dig was first requested by and achieved by Dems but since all the corruption, leaks, shoddy work, shoddy materials, and gross financial and construction overruns have been under Republican Governors.
All the gross budget overruns were okayed by Bush and you have to believe because there was a republican Governor and he wanted the state in his collumn.

Thanks Bruce
I don't know much about this stuff but I will look at html Blockquotes and href?

Thanks for the response, but there are a few points that you seemed to have glossed over. The budget, you know, the money, comes from the representatives that we send to the State & National Congress. Those representatives have been bringing home the bacon. That's just a fact. There's no way that this can be layed at the feet of the Republicans. Nor would I lay it at the feet of Democrats. Instead I'd lay it at the feet of Government. You are seriously cracked if you think this is a "Republican" problem.

Hi granted
I have been listening to Romney talk about this a lot lately and I no longer think he is at fault. But as he pointed out himself, the head of the MTA is a Republican and he wants his head.
My thing with Bush is that he was giving money left and right in my mind because we had republican governors in control and he wanted the State in his collumn.
We have known all along that the project was corrupt in many respects. To Romney's credit I think, He wants control of the project.
That shoud have been the case long ago. I had no idea the Governor had no say over things. In my mind he should because the buck stops in his office or it should.
Right now I am caught up with Israel declaring war, Lebanon wanting to send the captured Israeli soldiers to Iran, and Iran says it will be the end of Israel and anyone that has helped her will be noted.
I have been calling for a total middle east btreakdown and it is well on its way. It was put in motion by Bush ignoring all good advice and attacking Iraq.
My son is EOD assigned with the Army and leaves Friday for a month of combat training before a year in Afghanistan. After that he goes to Iraq for a year. They are flat out and it will soon get a lot worse! Watch!
