The deaths of 55 civilians in Israeli raids on the village of Qana on Sunday fueled anger at the Jewish state's military onslaught and gave tragic new impetus to cease fire plans.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice canceled a trip to Lebanon where thousands of furious demonstrators attacked the U.N. headquarters, burning curtains, destroying furniture and forcing staff to hide in the basement.
Speaking to reporters in Jerusalem, Rice said it was time to "get to a cease fire" in Lebanon but declined to call for an "immediate" halt to hostilities in the aftermath of the Qana bombing.http://www.naharnet.com/..
The only thing that would have helped the middle east in the first place was for Bush not to have attacked Iraq. It has and will continue to go down hill from there.
That said, I think the worse possible thing for us and the Middle East situation would be just what Rice did. Israel kills 55 Lebanese many of them children and she stupidly goes to Israel, infuriates Muslims, and still refuses to call for immediate cease fire.
International response is swift! Kofi Annan expresses deep shock, Hezbollah of course vows revenge for the carnage. Iran, Jordan, Egypt, Arab Emirates, Hamas, and more all expressed all options were open. Fatah now says it will attack US and other western countries.
Knowing all this I just want to remind you what we talked about the other day in regards to Bush's and Israel's insistence that Hezbollah will be changed forever,
In a defiant speech Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz vowed that Hezbollah will "not return to what it was" and that "anyone who attacks Israel" awaits the same fate.
The Jewish state "will not allow the Hezbollah flag to be flown on the borders of Israel," Peretz said, adding that Israel had no intention of waging war against Syria.

Israel says Hezbollah will never be the same after they have finished their recent operations. After you read the rest of this I believe you will agree!
However, it will not be what they or Bush thinks!
They both refuse to understand the intense Religious Nationalism that has been awoken in Islam as a result of Bush's attacking Iraq and interfering with their government systems, His incursion on Muslim soil, and Israel's recent campaign to change the middle east landscape.
It is going to change but they will not like it. They will get a new middle east order but it will not be what they think. Hezbollah will not be the same! It will be more diverse and worse! I can't believe they can not expect this to be the case. they should know this from the so called Iraq success story that like the entire middle east, will end in defeat.
Hezbollah will soon be if not already, infused with Jihad martyrs from around the middle east and the world. Maliki's recent comments or lack there of, should tell you how the majority of the Muslim world feel about recent events with Israel at the very least.
This latest event purposeful or not and Rice's subsequent visit to Israel only serves to ensure that Bush and Israel's new middle east order will move on to the next level. This new middle east order will be a total living hell on earth.
It will not be just in Iraq as it has been since Bush's attack, Not just in Lebanon as it has recently become, but the entire middle east. Please indulge! http://www.dailykos.com/...

I do not know about the particular instance of Qana, but in other areas, Hizballah has held Lebanese civilians hostage (not allowing them to leave their villages) in order to capitalize on the propaganda value of their deaths.
Hi Frank
I agree! I have heard that amongst many other things. It stinks but as in our own politics today, it seems to matter who you listen too and what they want you to believe is the truth!
It does serve Hezbolla's purpose to use their own people as shields in order to gain support and it seems to be working.
