NATO eyes missile shield progress with Russia after U.S. move towards North Korea:

One Year Ago: Part of NATO missile defense goes live : The station is located in the city of Malatya, about 400 miles southeast of the capital Ankara, and is manned by both Turkish and U.S. personnel, the spokesman said. Turkey is one of five countries that have agreed to deploy parts of the U.S.-designed defense system. Portugal, Poland, Romania and Spain have also agreed to participate. NATO asked Russia to participate in the system but negotiations have been deadlocked over Russia's demand for a legally binding treaty guaranteeing the shield would not be used as a deterrent to Moscow's own systems.

I remember a year back when Iran said as soon as the site in Turkey was on line it would be a valid target for Iran. I also caught that Russia and the United States are pretty close to an agreement on being partners on the MDS. The only problem now is getting the US to put on paper that Russia is not a target. That should not be a problem one way or the other. Sign the damn paper.

Iran has been upgrading its missile systems and has showed off its Sejil 2 two stage solid fuel missile capable of reaching targets 1,200 miles away. They had that ability with the Shahab 3 but are now prepared to produce these en masse. They now have capable short and medium range capabilities but no way to deliver nuclear warheads. Supposedly these are not to be used offensively but only to prove Iran can defend herself. Once again you have to believe the weapons are to prove they are a threat offensively.

Iran was already a threat to her immediate neighbors with a 600 mile range now they have paraded the ability to produce missiles capable of reaching parts of Europe and certainly most of the middle east. Remember Bush's axis of evil? He falsely inclided Iraq to justify his illegal attack. Now North Korea and Iran the other two in the so called axis are covered by the MDS and none too soon by 14 missile interceptors in Alaska. Bush's facade of an MDS is gone!

President Obama based his decision to scrap Bush's worthless MDS Boondoggle as it was only designed to provoke Russia and was never even tested under realistic conditions despite its 4 Billion dollar cost. As you know after much expert advice and thought he scrapped it for the much tested land and water based mobile Aegis system.
This great decision which Europe and Russia welcome was based on a reassessment of the developing and changing threat coming from Iran! Defending Europe because of Iran  is the priority, Decisions based on intelligent reasoning what a novel idea!

The water based mobile Aegis system can even be moved to the Gulf "you know it is already there" and other area's of concern that may and will crop up to counter immediate short and medium range missile threats.
Meanwhile by 2017 (now I hear 2015) when Iran is expected to have long range capabilities the Aegis is also scheduled to have long range and ICBM defense capabilities. If Russia and NATO join the effort as proposed I am confident we will be prepared for any future threats!

To top it all off a Defense Department report to Congress concludes that Iran could develop a missile capable of striking the United States by 2015. Besides the mobile aegis the U.S. already had 25 long-range interceptor missiles based in Alaska and California, as part of a system designed to defend the nation against an attack from North Korea or Iran.
Now they have added 14 more supposedly for North Korea but you know they add another blanket to every threat.Eight of 14 tests of the interceptors have been successful, that gives me pause but I feel we are smart enough to have overkill as far as Iran, North Korea, or any other threat goes. Whatever it takes get on with the rest of the system.

Missile Defense shift has winners and losers but not what you think or we are told!

Russia-US reset: Who pressed the button?

First I have to say thanks to Obama lightening up the mood between Russia and the US I am feeling very optimistic about working together to proceed successfully into the 21st century. Switching to the Aegis missile system which is mobile and already used and proven and scrapping Bush's war mongering worthless MDS Boondoggle was a GREAT IDEA! but it does have its winners and losers! Though they are not what you think!

First the winners and losers in the US! It is all about money and Corporations again. You have to believe Rummy Cheney or other Bush cronies have interests in the Boeing Company who was going to develop the facilities in Poland and Czechoslovakia and Orbital sciences who was going to be supplying the interceptors. They are the losers!

Switching to the water and land based mobile Aegis system for Raytheon of Massachusetts who will be producing Zillions more missiles and Lockheed Martin who produces the control systems. Missile defense shift has winners and losers

First as I said already I am psyched that Russia has already said they will entertain sanctions on Iran and their nuclear program. We could be important allies to a prosperous future in many instances not just Iran, Afghanistan, and the so called war on terror. There is now a possibility that NATO the US and Russia will work on a joint missile defense system thanks to Obama's smart move to use the Aegis missile system and scrap Bush's worthless missile defense shield. This decision bears more fruit as Russia says Ahmadinejad's Holocaust statement 'totally unacceptable! Russia: Ahmadinejad's Holocaust statement 'totally unacceptable'

Remember Russia's ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenkoas even spoke up and said attempts to rewrite history, especially as the 70th anniversary of the start of World War II is being marked this year, are an offense to the memory of all victims and all those who fought fascism. Also they do not contribute to creating an international atmosphere that would foster a fruitful dialogue on issues concerning Iran.

We haven't heard from China but they can't possibly differ from the rest of the world as they too know of the horrors inflicted on the Jews in world war two! The entire West is enraged! We have now heard from officially from Britain, Germany, France, the US, and Russia amongst others. Valid criticisms include It is a lie, baseless, ignorant, hateful, Abhorrent! Ahmadinejad is a disgrace is a disgrace and an insult to his great people and the great country of Iran. His vitriol is unacceptable!

You have to think Ahmadinejad and Iran are doing it on purpose but at this point they appear to be their own worse enemy. Obama is being credited and discredited for changing course on the MDS and going with the Aegis system. We are told Russia has been emboldened and are taking advantage of their new power and a weakened America but I do not see it that way.

Winner and losers around the world: This switch was a great move for the entire world with the exception of Iran. This was timely because as you know Iran admitted on the 21st to having a second secret nuclear facility capable of enriching Uranium. They only admitted it because they found out that France and the US already knew about it. Well that is why the focus on Iran's nukes at the UN and the G20! Obama has already called for inspections and we will see what happens. Thankfully Russia and China are now on board. Moscow open to new Iran sanctions: official

We keep hearing from the war mongers on the right that we gave Russia the farm and screwed America and Europe. Quite the opposite is true! This is a win for everyone! Russia now knows they are not the target and have started being productive partners. All of Europe are winners as Russia's nukes will not be turned on them. The reset button has obviously been reset and we are seeing positive results from it every day. I hear talk that Russia is trying to take the credit for pressing the Reset Button. Russia Tries to Control the Reset Button< /a>

* Who the hell cares who gets credit as long as we all cooperate against Iran and other world problems and proceed successfully and unified into the 21st century!

With Global economic collapse now our Biggest threat, Russia having a role in the Missile Defense Shield is Huge, Huge!

With our new biggest threat being the Global economic crisis which may have at least one positive impact and that is to bring the world together after Bush's efforts to divide and conquer it!
Global Economy Top Threat to US, Spy Chief Says

Obama seen likely to hedge on missile defense

US says Russia could have role in missile shield in Europe

Polish-Russian relations "unblocked" says Poland's foreign minister Russia taking a step back wanting to talk and willing to compromise is Huge, Huge!

Poland wants enhanced military commitment from US

This is huge! I just went back over my years of writing on Bush using the missile shield to instigate his Forever war and this story from 7/5/07 pretty much sums up the dire situation Bush created with the missile defense shield and Putin's very doable Idea!

We have had an ongoing discussion of the missile defense system as events between Russia and Bush change step by step. There were many as events were moving ever rapidly towards the desired end of open confrontation. I said People must see by now what is happening hear and the way this to will end. I have heard many opinions varying from them being useless to the point that even if they had a 99% success ratio that against a limited attack it would ensure mutual destruction.

It is serving the purpose I thought which was to instigate future confrontation so Bush could progress with his new world order. I have been trying to get people to realize that Bush is following the 19th century Russian Doctrine of destruction where you must break down existing order before you can replace it with your new order. That means war! http://www.anaveragepatriot.com/downloads/Manuscript2.pdf

Certainly everyone must see what has occurred around the world. Bush will not stop. Anyway, Putin did make another brilliant move but Bush will ignore it amidst threats that Russia will move its missiles to the Polish Chezh borders. An antiterrorism bond forged after the Sept. 11 attacks has been chipped at repeatedly. Disputes developed over the Iraq war, missile defense plans, the fate of democracy in Russia, NATO expansion to Russia's doorstep and sniping over what each side views as meddling in former Soviet republics. look at the list! I am sure we can go on and on and on but every single one of those problems is caused by little Georgie.

At a summit last month of world economic powers, Putin surprised Bush by proposing that the system instead use an old Soviet-era radar facility in Azerbaijan instead of the Czech and Polish sites. It is an idea that US officials do not want to reject outright. But they have concluded it would not work as a substitute, only perhaps as an early warning supplemental component. At the lobster summit Putin dropped a couple more surprises on Bush. He said flat out that he did not want the systems in Poland and Czechoslovakia but wanted them somewhere that was friendlier to Russia. That makes sense! He suggested that the missile defense systems be housed on Russian soil. Wow, that is provocative but that sounds vaguely familiar to me? Anyway Putin proposed transforming U.S. plans for an Eastern European missile shield into a broader system that would incorporate a radar system in southern Russia and bring more European nations into the decision-making process.

I think that is a great idea and once again puts Bush on the spot. My thought is that all along Putin has out played Bush in this Political gamesmanship as Putin points out that, that would put the relationship between our two countries on an entirely new level. Personally I like that idea and if it was wanted then it is possible. I have to ask why is Bush so insistent that the Czech Republic and Poland need to be an integral part of the system. The latest events: Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov says the term "Cold War" will be forgotten if the United States accepts his country's missile-defense plan for Europe. But Ivanov is also threatening to deploy Russian missiles near Poland if Washington rejects the Kremlin offer. VOA Moscow Correspondent Peter Fedynsky reports. You know damn well Bush will ignore it as he has to in order to instigate war and his new order.

Speaking to reporters in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said Russia will cancel plans to deploy missiles in its Kaliningrad enclave if the United States accepts a Kremlin plan for a European missile-defense system. The Russian Baltic enclave is surrounded by Poland and Lithuania, both NATO members. Ivanov's statement carries the implied threat of an arms race in response to an American plan to deploy missiles in Poland and a radar installation in the Czech Republic. The United States says the system would guard against a possible attack by Iran. Ivanov says his country's proposal is better for NATO than America's. I have to agree when Ivanov says that Russia together with the NATO allies can create a system that would defend not just some NATO members, but all of them. http://voanews.com/english/2007-07-04-voa23.cfm I you are interested just take a gander at the titles and see how quickly this was escalating. Rapid developments

I now see hope that President Obama can divert at least this one world crisis set up by Bush. The thawing of Bush's freeze is just starting but I see a future!

This too falls into the category of the Bed Bush made for Obama! Official: Russia to 'test the mettle' of Obama!

Please check my evaluation at the end of this but first! Official: Russia to 'test the mettle' of Obama State Department expects tougher stance against U.S. missile defenses!
The Russian government is likely to "test the mettle" of Barack Obama and his administration by taking a tougher stance against U.S. missile defenses, a senior State Department official said Wednesday.

John Rood, the department's top arms control official, told reporters he believes the Russians are waiting to size up the Obama administration before Moscow advances its position on disputed arms issues. In discussing the state of Russian opposition to U.S. missile defense bases in Poland and the Czech Republic, Rood said it appears that Moscow has "paused" in anticipation of a new national security approach in Washington. My assessment is that the Russians intend to test the mettle of the new administration and the new president," he said. "The future will show how the new administration chooses to answer that challenge."

Asked to elaborate, he said, "I think missile defense and other subjects will be among those that the Russians intend to determine what the new administration's posture will be." He said he reached this conclusion on the basis of an impression gained during talks in Moscow on Monday rather than from explicit Russian statements. Less flexibility seen from MoscowHe also said the Russians have been less flexible lately in talks on missile defense. In particular he cited their stance on U.S. proposals to give the Russians more assurance that a missile interceptor site in Poland and a missile-tracking radar in the Czech Republic would pose no security threat to Russia.

The United States, with the support of the Polish and Czech governments, has proposed that Russian officials be given regular access to the interceptor and radar sites and that they be allowed to monitor activity at both sites through undisclosed technical means. Rood did not elaborate on the details in dispute. "I don't want to spell out all the details because I think this is a high-priority dialog for us in the United States, and I don't think that putting all the details out will facilitate a resolution to it," he said. Rood led a U.S. government delegation in talks with senior Russian officials on a range of subjects, including efforts by both governments to negotiate a treaty to replace the 1991 START nuclear arms deal, which expires in December 2009. Rood said the talks were useful but did not achieve any breakthroughs.

In Moscow on Tuesday, Russian news agencies quoted Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying Moscow hopes the Obama administration will agree that the weapons limitations under START "should be preserved and strengthened, rather than weakened." Rood said the Russians want to expand the scope of a follow-on to the START treaty to include limitations on non-nuclear strategic weapons such as long-range conventional bombers and possibly submarines. The Bush administration has resisted that, saying the restrictions should be on nuclear warheads only. Rood said he consulted with members of Obama's transition team before traveling to Moscow and will brief them on the substance of the talks. And he said he expects additional talks with the Russians on these subjects before President Bush leaves office Jan. 20.
Brooke Anderson, the Obama transition office's chief spokesperson on national security affairs, declined to comment on Rood's remark about the Russians likely seeking to test the new president.

Divisive issueThe missile defense issue has been one of the most divisive over the past few years. The Bush administration has argued that extending its U.S.-based defense system to Europe is important in defending Europe and the United States from a possible long-range missile strike from Iran, while the Russians dispute the immediacy of an Iranian threat and worry about U.S. military expansion near Russian borders. On Nov. 5, the day after Obama's election, President Dmitry Medvedev warned that Russia would move short-range missiles to NATO's borders to "neutralize" any U.S. missile defense system in Eastern Europe if necessary.
Medvedev has since backed off slightly. He stressed on Nov. 15 that Russia would not act unless the United States took the first step and expressed hope that the new U.S. administration will be open to negotiations.

Obama has not been explicit, at least in public, about whether he would proceed with the missile defense plan in Poland and the Czech Republic. More broadly he has said he supports missile defense but wants to ensure that it is proven to be a reliable system that does not detract from other security priorities.
More on Missile defense Russia

* This too falls into the catagory of the Bed Bush made for Obama!
You see that Bush has almost completed the bankrupting of America ensuring that Obama does not have the money to deal with the crises he has created in America at the hands of Greenspan! For years now he has been instigating war around the world using the Politics of my way or the highway confrontation to dominate! The world has had enough!

In this case we will again discuss Russia! We had the perfect opportunity to bring the world together and proceed into the future peacefully and successfully as one. Bush though more pointedly his handlers saw it as an opportunity to dominate and have their way! The missile defense shield was developed and is being emplaced in Chezchoslavakia and Poland specifically to instigate Russia to war in Bush's forever war!

That system has not even been tested under realistic conditions and I absolutely believe it will fail miserably under realistic conditions. God help the countries that house that system! If peace was the goal it would be housed in Britain where it is wanted but peace is not the goal! Nor is shooting down missiles from Iran and North Korea unless thanks to Bush's instigation and Russia's help they now gain the ability to reach us.

The original goal was to instigate Russia to war in order to fight and have our way but unless controlling the worlds weapons using the well tested successful system HAARP is the plan we are in serious trouble. I have said many times that whoever controls space controls the future. Without satellites the worlds militaries are dead in the water, sitting ducks waiting to be picked off!

** Without getting any deeper I will just remind you of Joe Biden's statement that Obama will be tested within 6 months of election but he is already being tested. He is already running the show in America behind the scenes while Bush continues to screw around. Russia will instantly take him to task as Bush made his bed there too! I am convinced that regardless of what Obama would like or try to do that the foundation of Forever war that Bush laid will proceed!

*** I hope I am wrong but I absolutely doubt it!

From Top to Bottom Government, corporations, planners on every level have failed us and payment is just Beginning!

Failing bridges, tunnels. mines, failing Government, it is catching usPart of the most expensive Boondoggle in the countries history this new bridge is Boston already has problems.

This is the $900 million dollar giant Golf ball design failure built to defend our failing system and we do not really know if it works. This facade of security is crashing!

Yesterday I ended my day with a discussion with another concerned citizen about Government and so called leader failing on all levels and how much trouble we are in and how much worse it is going to get. I know I am not the only one that thinks we are heading the way of the Roman Empire and Bush has sped the process up exponentially. We see rampant corruption in Iraq and around America as Corporations race to make the mighty buck leaving us and our welfare behind. We are finding out the hard way that those we entrusted to maintain our systems and infrastructure were not thinking of us or thinking at all. I am disgusted at the level of ineptitude.
Anyway the current mine disaster seems to be indicative of the constant drive to make a buck while maintaining a failing system and getting away. This is all uncoscionable, detrimental to our America, and we must turn this harmful practice around if wa are to have a successful future. It is fine to make a dollar but doing things right, safety, and putting America first must start now or we are in serious trouble.
I am from Massachusetts and I woke up this morning to hear that not only is the Big Dig Debacle corrupt and full of deceit, puposeful inadequacies. and shortcuts. just to make money at the expense of honesty, average Americans, and our America as I have written in the past http://anaverageamericanpatriot.blog/

At $14.6 Billion and climbing daily with constant repairs this is the most expensive purposely corrupted construction project ever in America that will never end I just found out that the beautiful bridge they built as part of the project already also has built in inadequacies.
A new federal report on the Big Dig raises concerns about warped steel anchor plates on the Leonard Zakim Bridge in Boston. A U.S. Department of Transportation inspector general report asked state officials to take a closer look at the safety risk posed by anchor plates which connect the bridge's cables to its steel girders. They just built the damn thing and already Six warped plates were found on the bridge.
Federal officials said the anchor plates posed a higher safety risk than state officials found in their stem-to-stern safety review of the Big Dig last November. Federal officials also called for additional testing to assess the effects of high-temperature fires on Big Dig tunnels, saying a "high-temperature" fire could cause ceiling panel anchors to fail. They are testing the venerated Ted Williams tunnel because they are concerned the tunnel can not withstand a fire caused by two trucks crashing because it was only designed to with stand a one truck fire.
I find that unbelievable as it only seems to be common sense to me but as we are finding to be the norm. only tested tosatisfy the legal system. I am not an engineer but I want to do things right and be honest. It seems only common sense to ask relevant questions and build something that withstands a worse case4 scenario. It seems that over time that scenario very often comes up.

The bridge failure in Minneapolis is bound to be repeated due to rampant lack of attention, money, and concern as is the mining disaster. I am stunned at the money grubbing failures allowed because of lack of planning or concern for average Americans and our America. our entire infrastructure is failing and it has purposely been allowed to happen as saving money has consistently been put ahead of saving lives.
We have purposely built in failure by uncaring, unthinking, selfish, so called experts. To top it off just think about this! I also ran into this story on the missile defense System failure designed supposedly to protect our failing infrastrusture. I must admit, this entire part of this system was unknown to me and I guess purposely so.
Anyway, The military's $900 million, 28-story-tall missile defense radar is Designed to keep an eye out for rogue missiles flying toward the United States, the SBX had been scheduled to report for duty in Alaska in early 2006, but a series of structural repairs and upgrades have kept it in warmer waters. For over a year, the nine-story radar that sits atop a self-propelled Norwegian oil platform has been coming and going from Pearl Harbor for fixes and test a delay critics see as symptomatic of an agency under pressure to deliver a national missile defense system that is still more fiction than fact.

The 280-foot high, $900 million gizmo will soon be scanning the horizon for enemy threats, joining the growing suite of land-, sea- and space-based technologies that the MDA claims is the nation's first functional national missile defense system. Shortly after arriving in Hawaii, the MDA ordered an assessment of the radar's rig, which resulted in a $27-million to-do list before it could be declared operational.
Improvements include everything from rethinking the platform's ballast system to installing anti-slip surfaces on its decks. When you read that report, you have to wonder what the people who designed the thing where thinking,"
The MDA claims the SBX is powerful enough to spot a flying baseball in San Francisco from New York, and more importantly, to tell the difference between a real missile heading for America and a decoy.
A Giant 'Golfball' for Missile Defense*

I just do not understand the American penchant today to be inadequate at the expense of us and "our America. We do not even know if this thing works and Russia and China are again holding joint military manuevers and both warning us about our east Asia ventures. Not only is our failing infrastructure cathing up with us but our failing Government and policies from the top down is too. Somebody has to wake up and quick. Corporations and Government have got to start doing the right thing and putting the people and America first or we are in serious trouble. What will it take for them to realize we are in trouble and it will get worse.
