Jihadist in-fighting must stop or Syrian opposition will lose

Al-Qaida chief: Syria rebels must end infighting: The call by Ayman al-Zawahri came as activists said that fighting between the al-Qaida-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and an array of other Islamic militant groups intensified in northern Syria. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "Islamic State" fighters fully captured the northern town of Manbij on Thursday after days of fighting.
The Observatory said that 1,395 people, mostly rebel fighters, have been killed since the infighting began Jan. 3, the worst clash among opposition groups since Syria's crisis began in March 2011. Al-Zawahri said the internal fighting "between the holy warriors of Islam has bloodied our hearts" and that it should stop immediately. He called on Islamic groups in Syria to set up an Islamic court that would mediate and resolve their differences.

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria guarantee there will be no peace in Syria

Qaeda-Linked Group Is Seen Complicating the Drive for Peace in Syria:  By challenging moderate Syrian rebels, the group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, has forced them to fight on two fronts and divert resources from their battle with the government of President Bashar al-Assad, the official said.

War between free syrian army and Islamic State of Iraq will defeat their cause

New front opens in Syria as rebels say al Qaeda attack means war:  "We will not let them get away with it because they want to target us," a senior FSA commander said on condition of anonymity after members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant killed Kamal Hamami on Thursday.
"We are going to wipe the floor with them," he said. Hamami, also known by his nom de guerre, Abu Bassir al-Ladkani, is one of the top 30 figures on the FSA's Supreme Military Command. His killing highlights how the West's vision of a future, democratic Syria is unraveling.

The total middle east breakdown progresses, Iraq, Syria, and Egypt are just the beginning.

Syrian rebels, al-Qaida fighters battle in Aleppo: Activists say Syrian rebels and fighters from an al-Qaida-linked group have turned their guns on each other and are fighting for control of a key checkpoint in the northern city of Aleppo.

The checkpoint is the only gateway between rebel-held eastern districts and the city's western areas, controlled by President Bashar Assad's troops. Earlier this week, al-Qaida-linked militants seized the checkpoint and closed it for several days, cutting the flow of food supplies to the city and triggering the confrontation.

Iraqi al Qaeda wing merges with Syrian: The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said his group had funded cells of fighters from Syria's al-Nusra Front - which is blacklisted by the United States - since the early days of the two-year-old uprising.

He said in a statement posted on Islamist websites and seen by Reuters on Tuesday that the two groups would operate under the joint title of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant."It's now time to declare in front of the people of the Levant and the world that al-Nusra Front is but an extension of the Islamic State of Iraq and part of it," Baghdadi said.

Killing their fellow "rebels" is counterproductive and destructive to their cause of taking Assad down. They should take out their sectarian strife’s later. Concentrate on defeating Assad then turn back on each other later. I just do not understand any lack of common sense.

There is time to kill each other later. They are going to have to rid the middle east of those trying to control it to enforce their idea of a new middle east order. This is barely beginning.

Okay we too are considered their enemy along with Israel as we seem to be every ones in the middle east who wants us off their land. With that said I don't know if they are not abusing the good name of the Levant. Al- Nusra was first heard of in 2011 and was formed to remove Bashar Al Assad from power for killing the Sunni rebels.
That is a good thing and I agree with it but if they truly consider themselves protectors of the people of the Levant they would be protectors of all the downtrodden in the middle east. They should be the protectors of Palestine when they are done with Syria. I do not think it is a bad thing that they are in Syria. However when the job is done they should move on to help Palestinians. Palestinians are truly of the Levant.
Muslims of Palestine are largely descendants of Christians and Jews of the southern Levant. The Southern Levant roughly encompasses Palestine, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, along with the modern sovereign states of Israel, Jordan and the southern parts of Lebanon and Syria. We are talking all the way back to prehistoric times people.

As we know, the big powers Iran, Russia, and the United States are fighting a proxy war in Syria.
The realities on the ground are that Iran "PERSIA" is influencing and interfering everywhere they possibly can in order to stop what they think is the US getting its way. It has nothing to do with doing the right thing for Syria as a whole. It has everything to do with keeping the US, the West, and Arabs from having events in Syria go their way and not the way of Iran, Russia, China and the rest of their allies.

This is all about the future direction of the entire middle east. The goal absolutely is to be the country who decides which direction the new Middle East (dis)order will take. Bush started it by attacking Iraq to get into the middle east to destabilize it and start the new middle east order the idiot said God told him to do now it will be up to Iran and Saudi Arabia (Al Qaeda?) at least up front fight it out whether this goes the Iranian Shiite way or the Saudi Arabian Sunni way and do not forget Israel!

You know I firmly believe and have said so a million times by now that since 9/11 everything was construed to allow Bush to gain the power he needed to prosecute his new order not just in the Middle East but on the entire world! He diverted from Afghanistan to get back into the Middle East with the goal of setting up a larger safety zone for Israel and going after Iran. Both will fail! It has long been my contention that coming to Israel's aid once they attack Iran will be our in to Iran but with Iran, the Gulf, Syria, and everything else who knows what will happen first.

We must contain this to the middle east and keep it from turning into WW3. This must be a middle east fight and problem or the entire world is in dire trouble and we have too much already as we try to move successfully through the 21st century. I am afraid we are failing our children in every regard.

Syria rebels led by Al Nusra front seize key Deraa army post

Syria rebels seize key Deraa army post: Syrian rebels have captured a major army post in the southern city of Deraa after nearly two weeks of intense fighting, activists said. Rebel forces led by members of the the Nusra Front, captured the checkpoint on Friday after a two-week siege. The head of the Observatory, said the fall of the army post was strategically significant for Deraa, where protesters first marched against four decades of Assad family rule from the city's Omari mosque in March 2011.
"Now the army is under threat there. The rebels haven't liberated all of the old city. There are still two neighborhoods with soldiers, but this could change the balance of power there," Abdulrahman told Reuters. The Syrian conflict began in Deraa as a peaceful protest movement against President Bashar al-Assad's rule, but has spread across the country and degenerated into civil war.

Absolutely there should be a 2 state solution with an Israel and a free state of Palestine side by side. However as we keep asserting, it will never happen with the sorry excuse for Diplomacy. Jihadists, Islamists, extremists, Al Qaeda affiliates, whatever you call them someone of that stature has to stand up for them and it can't be Hezbollah. Someone has to stand up to the separatist hard liner Netanyahu and the likes of Gingrich who back him up saying he is dead right saying Palestinians are "invented" and Jerusalem belongs to the Jews.
I am afraid he is dead wrong and defending Netanyahu's divisive war mongering stance and saying Palestinians are an invented people is grotesque and will only help guarantee a total middle east breakdown. I refuse to believe that ass can get away with voicing such war mongering destructive divisive rhetoric. For now for me the jury is still out on Jabhat al-Nusra but they are the professed front line.

Gingrich calls Palestinians an "invented" people: History proves he is dead wrong and that there will never be a peaceful 2 state solution

Muslims of Palestine are largely descendents of Christians and Jews of the southern Levant. The Southern Levant roughly encompasses Palestine, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, along with the modern sovereign states of Israel, Jordan and the southern parts of Lebanon and Syria. We are talking all the way back to prehistoric times people. Where the hell does Gingrich get that divisive war mongering information from? It is no wonder the Arabs support a Palestinian State!

Gingrich calls Palestinians an "invented" people: Gingrich differed with official U.S. policy that respects the Palestinians as a people deserving of their own state based on negotiations with Israel. "Remember, there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire" until the early 20th century, Gingrich said.

"I think that we've had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs, and who were historically part of the Arab community. And they had a chance to go many places, and for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and it`s tragic," he said.

Palestinian people 'invented'?: Those remarks drew a swift rebuke from a spokesperson for the American Task Force on Palestine, Hussein Ibish, who said "there was no Israel and no such thing as an 'Israeli people' before 1948.""So the idea that Palestinians are 'an invented people' while Israelis somehow are not is historically indefensible and inaccurate. Such statements seem to merely reflect deep historical ignorance and an irrational hostility towards Palestinian identity and nationalism," he said.

Gingrich went on to say his views are in line with those expressed by the war monger Benjamin Netanyahu which means Gingrich vows to continue and defend the lies expressed by Netanyahu who vows not to share Jerusalem with Palestinian's or anyone else.

Gingrich fuels more Mideast conflict: Saeb Erekat, a senior Palestinian official, described his comments in an interview as "despicable." Hanan Ashrawi, another top official, said Gingrich's "very racist comments" showed he was "incapable of holding public office."

"This is the lowest point of thinking anyone can reach," Erekat, a close advisor to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, told Reuters. Such comments served only to "increase the cycle of violence," he added. "What is the cause of violence, war in this region? Denial, denying people their religion, their existence, and now he is denying our existence," said Erekat, for years a leading figure in peace talks aimed at the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Genetic analysis and historical accounts suggest the Muslims of Palestine are largely descendents of Christians and Jews of the southern Levant,"The Levant is the geographical region bordering the Mediterranean, roughly between Egypt and Anatolia (modern Turkey). The Southern Levant roughly encompasses Palestine, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, along with the modern sovereign states of Israel, Jordan and the southern parts of Lebanon and Syria [1]." and descendents of a core population that lived there in prehistoric times.[22]

Since the time of the Muslim conquests in the 7th century, religious conversions have resulted in Palestinians being predominantly Sunni Muslim by religious affiliation, though there is a significant Palestinian Christian minority of various Christian denominations, as well as Druze and a small Samaritan community. Though Palestinian Jews made up part of the population of Palestine prior to the creation of the State of Israel, very few identify as "Palestinian" today.
