Attack on Pakistani schoolgirl galvanizes anti-Taliban feeling: A Pakistani schoolgirl who dared to speak out against the Taliban took a bullet to the head for her act of defiance. Now, as Malala Yousufzai lies in a hospital bed in Birmingham, England, the shock and outrage among her countrymen have given way to a new sentiment: What will the government do about this? Thousands of people nationwide have joined in rallies in support of the wounded 14-year-old. The shooting has prompted an unusually strong and united reaction of disgust and anger among many Pakistanis, analysts say. 

At a rally organized by the powerful MQM political party in Karachi, thousands of people gathered, some waving flags and banners with messages of support for Malala. "Our prayers are with you," read one. Another said, "Malala -- (an) attack on you is an attack on education and progress." Social activist Saman Jafery told CNN: "If Taliban is a mindset, then Malala is a mindset too. It's a mindset of educated and empowered women." Another of those at the rally, Haider Rizvi, said people "don't want the Taliban anymore in Pakistan, and after the Malala incident, it is time for people to stand up."

  It's appalling enough that 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai, who publicly championed the cause of education for girls in Pakistan, was shot in the head and neck and critically injured by gunmen who boarded her school bus in the Swat Valley. 

  Even more horrendous is that a Taliban spokesman declared that she had been singled out for attack because of her support of girls' education in defiance of Taliban edict. "Let this be a lesson," the spokesman told the New York Times. We hope it will be a lesson — that such violence is barbaric and counterproductive. It has no place in today's world. Not in Pakistan or Afghanistan or anywhere else.  Even worse is they say they will make sure they kill her next time.

 It is high time Pakistani's and Afghani's rise up unite and eradicate this vermin enemy of Islam "the Taliban! The people would be wise to remember the cutting off of heads and hands that is routine for the Taliban and how stifling it is under their rule. As a whole they should remember the thousands of them the Taliban have purposely killed.  They should form Lashkar's (civilian defense against the Taliban) and eliminate the Taliban or life as they want it is over.

I just do not get it. If those people know how bad their life is going to be under the Taliban then why do they not fight to defeat them? The people better stand up, stand together and fight the Taliban. The Taliban may have had good intentions years ago but they have turned into a gang of murderous thugs who rape and kill their own unless they get their way and people bow down to them Period. 

Get rid of the Taliban! At one time I believed they should be allowed to rule or whatever they wanted because they were indigenous but I now believe they should be eliminated. After many beheadings and killings of men women and children for not living and doing things the way the unrighteous gang "the taliban" says, I now feel  they should be isolated or eliminated.

 Pakistan Erupts in Anger Over Taliban's Shooting of Schoolgirl: A Taliban gunman singled out and shot the girl, Malala Yousafzai, on Tuesday, and a spokesman said it was in retaliation for her work in promoting girls’ education and children’s rights in the northwestern Swat Valley, near the Afghan border. Across the rest of the country, Pakistanis reacted with outrage to the attack on the girl, whose eloquent and determined advocacy of girls’ education had made her powerful symbol of resistance to Taliban ideology. 

“Malala is our pride. She became an icon for the country,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik said. Even Jamaat ud Dawa, the charity wing of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which follows a different strain of Islam from the Taliban, condemned the attack. The anger was amplified by the Taliban’s brazen claims of responsibility for the shooting, and avowals that the group would attack Ms. Yousafzai again if it got a second chance. Reports circulated that the Taliban had also promised to target her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, who privately appealed to neighbors from Swat not to visit the hospital in case of a second attack. 

 Gibson writes movingly of the terror that ordinary folks in Pakistan feel as U.S. drones fly overhead, targeting insurgents but also killing innocent civilians. "And that presence is steadily destroying a community twice the size of Rhode Island. Parents are afraid to send their children to school. Women are afraid to meet in markets. Families are afraid to gather at funerals for people wrongly killed in earlier strikes. Drivers are afraid to deliver food from other parts of the country." 

 

And her conclusion? "Of course, we should ask whether drones are legal under international law; my view is that they are not. Of course, we should ask whether drones are counterproductive; my view is that they are." But here's what I wonder: What would Gibson say to Malala Yousafzai?  Gibson's right. People are cowering in terror in their homes in Pakistan, fearful of U.S. drones. But there are many kinds of terror, and in Pakistan, too much of it is home-grown. So at this point, those terrible, deadly drones help Americans -- and girls like Malala Yousafzai -- sleep at night, knowing that they keep the Taliban from doing the same.

Panetta served notice on the Taliban that it will not be able to derail the NATO plan. 

 “As I said to my fellow ministers, we have come too far, we have fought too many battles, we have spilled too much blood not to finish the job that we are all about," he said. "Whatever tactics the enemy throws at us — IEDs [improvised explosive devices], insider attacks, car bombs — we will not allow those tactics to divide us from our Afghan partners, and we will not allow those tactics to divert us from the mission that we are dedicated to.” Panetta said the allied effort is “succeeding” and “has turned an important corner,”

There is more than a real risk that the Taliban will take over, it is a foregone conclusion and the people know it. Mullah Omar was invited to join the upcoming election in Afghanistan and he did not respond. He did not have to he knows when we are gone so is corrupt Karzai.

 I remember during the election with Abdullah and Karzai's victory was found to be grossly corrupt the people just shrugged and said one corrupt Government is the same as the next.

I just do not get it. If those people know how bad their life is going to be under the Taliban then why do they not fight to defeat them? *Vietnam all over again regardless of what they say. They are now offering the Taliban to join in the Government.

I really do not care what they do. Our soldiers did their job. We should get them out now with heads held high for a job well done. They have performed magnificently.The Taliban are going to take over again regardless and the people know it that is why everyone who can is making preparations to get out now. Afghan and Pakistani citizens better unite against the Taliban and now before NATO leaves or they are in serious trouble.
