I ...Yeah Demeur you've been pretty informative. I remember posting on machines that can re add the oxygen but everything on the bottom is dead. Seeing that it takes the bottom water 175 years to cycle top side is not good. I expect that oil broken down or not will screw that system us and the planet for centuries.jmsjoinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17631105639275375922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15216381.post-59552961098550429912010-09-19T13:29:00.140-07:002010-09-19T13:29:00.140-07:00Yeah they are Tim and it sucks! They and corporations do it all the time but this is a disaster of epic proportions especially now that I know how critical phytoplankton it to our, oxygen, life, and the entire planet.jmsjoinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17631105639275375922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15216381.post-52082853918681326092010-09-19T13:26:09.462-07:002010-09-19T13:26:09.462-07:00I'm telling you it is sickening no one talks a...I'm telling you it is sickening no one talks about it any more, they have people convinced it fixed itself, and once again they are going to let the people live in that, and they'll say it wasn't the oil. It is really sickening Mimijmsjoinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17631105639275375922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15216381.post-25393661086941000242010-09-19T12:19:50.406-07:002010-09-19T12:19:50.406-07:00As you know I've worked on a few oil spills ov...As you know I've worked on a few oil spills over the years so I know the basics of the process. Some 220 million gallons were spilled in the Gulf. With the use of dispersants, 2 million gallons worth, BP attempted to prevent that oil from reaching shore. A response to an oil spill results in the capture of about 15% under the best of conditions. There was at the time only one response team that's used by all of the oil companies. There was neither enough resources nor enough motivation to deal with this spill. BP knew that the longer they held off the harder it would be to pin point a spill figure hence their fines would be less. Rounding up the response team (Haliburton) would take time and the longer they (Halibuton) took the more money they would make.

As I may have mentioned in a previous post oil when it ages emulsifies and remains suspended under the surface of the water until currents or storms move it. Therefore the bulk of the spill is now not able to be captured with booms and surface methods. We at present do not have the technology to deal with those underwater plumbs. Maybe in the future some company will develop a way to vacuum the oil in the column and on the bottom but the scope of that project would be enormous.

Lastly we must assume that BP will walk away from this with nothing more than a slap on the wrist as they have done many times before. It is after all what companies do i.e. keep watch on their bottom line. What can be done? Not a whole lot for the people of the Gulf at present but we can change the insurance and bonding requirements for the oil companies that drill in the Gulf. We also need to invest in cleaner energy technologies by setting up shop in that area thereby providing the people there with a better way to make a living.Demeurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01935263659097273535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15216381.post-48610536486226684482010-09-19T11:53:04.343-07:002010-09-19T11:53:04.343-07:00Mauigirl hit on what I was going to point out. The MSM and BP and our own government are trying to cover up the extent of the damage and it is working because Americans have such a short attention span they've already moved on to the next big thing. I am sickened by what is found in the Gulf but not at all surprised - how could the biggest oil spill in our history just dissipate amazingly quickly as they claimed? It never made sense and obviously was never true.Mauigirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15529827915262851910noreply@blogger.com
